MONDAY, APRIL 30

Wow, where have the first four months of 2007 gone?  We must be having lots of fun!

What a blessing it was yesterday to listen to the Lord speak to us through Mike Blaylock.  Many folks expressed to me how the Lord used Mike to minister to them during the 10:30AM service.  We had a good crowd but I wish that each member of the Friendship family would have been present for that service.  Thank you Mike & Sonja for being willing to share your story with us!

Kelly Hall did a very nice job of bringing the message in song during our two morning worship services.  Also, Bro. Kerry and Tina Wilkinson presented a unique message in song last night.  Thanks to each of these folks for being ministers.

Melinda Eckert’s dad, James Ory, is in a NICU in a local hospital and Burney Barnes is in an ICU in another hospital.  Marie Howard meets with the doctor again this week about her malignancy and Randy Tillman gets his biopsy results on Friday.  Carla Kyser, Ronnie Owens, Neal Barnes, Mike Blaylock continue their respective treatments in their battle against cancer.  Please pray for all of these needs.

There will be a baby shower for Tiffany Bowden Fox this Sunday, May 6, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  It’s a girl!

Please remember that the fellowship hall is closed this week as tile work is being done.  We need some folks to help our wonderful project leaders, Dirk & Glen, beginning tonight at 6:00PM.  We will also be working tomorrow night beginning at 6:00PM.

Pastor Jack Bailey is in Kurdistan, Leslie Morris is in Africa, and Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy Tucker leave tomorrow for the Philippines.  Pray for these respective mission efforts.

The time has come for us to begin to make certain that we have the names of all of our 2007 graduates.  Please call the office (445-5412) to make certain that we have your graduates name on the list.  We will recognize the Class of 2007 on Sunday, May 20, during our 10:30AM worship service.

Good morning Dr. Jill!  Hope you all have a great day!

FRIDAY, 4/27

Lisa and I enjoyed a nice time of fellowship with Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy Tucker over a meal yesterday.  (Of course he “forgot” his wallet so I had to pay the bill!) He had just gotten a good word from the doctor concerning his heart and the recently implanted defibrillator.  Pray for them as they prepare to leave for the Philippines next Tuesday.  He will be preaching for us on Sunday, July 1, as he will be helping perform the ceremony on June 30th uniting our daughter, Daphne, and Brad Hutto in marriage.

I spoke to Billy Morris, Leslie’s dad, via the phone last night to confirm that she had indeed arrived in Africa.  Their only contact has been one brief e-mail so please pray for that team too.  I have no further word from my pastor friend, Jack Bailey, but would ask you to pray for him too.

I spoke to a friend yesterday who is very concerned about an upcoming court case next week.  This person has been sued and the insurance company has chosen not to settle out of court but to go to trial.  This friend is very concerned but is focused on trusting God through this whole ordeal.  Pray!

Derrick & Jodie Wilkerson will be taking a few days next week to travel to Coban & Tikal in Guatemala before a busy “team” season begins.  From May 18 until August 21 they will be busy working with teams from Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, & North Carolina.  The only substantial time off during their remaining time in Guatemala will be to travel to Mexico for three days as required by the law after being in the country for six months.

I mention Derrick & Jodie this morning to ask the members of the Friendship family to prayerfully consider financially supporting our Mission Antioch effort which in turns allows us to support Derrick & Jodie during this time.  Contact me if you need more information on how to do this.

I spoke to Mike Blaylock via the phone yesterday and confirmed his being with us this Sunday during the 10:30AM service.  He has written a book sharing about his experiences in dealing with cancer and will have some of those books available after the service.  I would encourage all of those who have battled with cancer or have a family member who has battled/is battling with cancer to be present during this service.  Again, I would ask those who normally attend the 8:00AM service to come to the 10:30AM service instead.  Mike graciously offered to come to both services but I insisted he only preach in the second service.  Our own Kelley Hall is scheduled to make her Friendship debut in bringing the message in song during the morning services this week.

I hope to see you in our Bible studies and worship services this Sunday.  Unless something happens to necessitate otherwise, there will be no more blog entries from me until Monday.  I am heading out the door to do a Wal Mart run for groceries and then will go cut grass at my in-laws so Charles will consider putting me in the Will!

Sandra McElwee – you say that you are a daily blog reader but you must never check your e-mail as I sent you a message requesting some information earlier this week!

THURSDAY, 4/26

We had a good day in the Lord yesterday.  Our Wednesday morning service continues to meet a need in people’s lives as it allows some folks to attend who otherwise would not be able to.  Wednesdays are long days for me but I am blessed to be a small part of them.  Two folks, one from the morning service and one from the evening service, told me yesterday how much the Wednesday Bible studies mean to them.  I encourage you to join us next Wednesday for a time in the Word and fellowship.

C.L. Henderson came late last night and did some painting on the fellowship hall ceiling.  He had a long day at work yesterday and I appreciate his willingness to come do this painting before we begin the tile work.

Speaking of the tile work, Dirk Johnson & Glen Cooper are so excited to be leading this effort.  We have plans to begin Monday night.  We are going to need several other volunteers to help with this effort so please come help.  Please remember that the fellowship hall will be closed all of next week.

I heard indirectly from Pastor Jack Bailey.  They arrived in Kurdistan and are doing well.  Please continue to pray for him and the team.

Lisa and I are scheduled to have lunch with Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy Tucker today.  They leave next Tuesday for a month of doing missions in the Philippines.  Please keep them in your prayers too.

Lisa and I have a friend, Leslie Morris, from Hartselle who is a student at Judson College.  She is presently on a mission trip to Africa with a group from the college so you can add that group to your prayer list.

Kevin Sprinkle’s daughter, Tiffany, had an accident on a four wheeler and broke both arms.  Surgery(ies) will be required so please pray for her.  Martha Patrick’s brother, James Swan, is back in the hospital.  Jennifer Jackson’s mother, Marie Howard, had to remain hospitalized overnight after a procedure yesterday.  Pastor Johnny Howard, Karla Cooper’s father, is having some complications with a tooth because of being on blood thinners so pray for him too.

I hope you will make plans to join us Sunday morning during the 10:30AM service when Mike Blaylock will be bringing the message.

We continue to hear from our in town and out of town friends who are regular readers of these entries.  Some have said that they also read our newsletter online so we can remove them from our U.S. Postal mailing list.  If this is true of you, please contact me at pastor@friendshipfamily.net or Miss Camp at kittie@friendshipfamily.net

WEDNESDAY, 4/25

It was a real joy yesterday to hear from a good number of folks, near and far, who are regular readers of these entries.  I am thankful that folks are taking advantage of this means of communication.

I had a good luncheon meeting with Danny Lafferty.  Pray for him as he left this morning for Guatemala to take care of some business.

John Wayne Bosarge, Tina Sprinkle’s dad, had two balloon procedures performed and a stent placed in his heart on Monday.  He came home from the hospital yesterday morning.

Ronnie Owens is recovering from his recent surgery in anticipation of beginning a new series of chemotherapy treatments.  He has such a wonderful attitude and is simply trusting the Lord.

I learned last night that Betty McDonald, Belvin’s wife, has been back in hospital but is now home.  Please pray for her.

Ladies, please remember the wedding shower for Karla Teasley this Sunday, 4/29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.

Speaking of the fellowship hall, it will be closed all of next week, 4/30 – 5/5, as the ceramic tile is installed.  We will have to make different arrangements for FAITH and the Wednesday night activities.

The folks participating in this summer’s mission trips to Guatemala are to remember the next payment due this Sunday, 4/29.

I hope that you will make plans to join us in one of our Bible studies/prayer meeting services today or tonight.

TUESDAY, 4/24

It seems that each week I hear from someone who tells me they are a faithful reader of these blog entries.  It is encouraging to hear from our long distance friends/family i.e. Mark Mast, Gena Davis, Jamie Glenn, Deidra, etc. and from members of the Friendship family.  If you are a regular reader and haven’t shared that with me, please consider sending me an e-mail or telling me in person at church.  Of course, you can also comment following any entry.

There is really nothing new to report on those who have been sick, hospitalized, or are battling cancer.  I haven’t heard anything from John Wayne Bosarge but hope to hear today.  Also, we had a FAITH team to visit Ronnie Owens last night so I should have a report on him too.

I do have two prayer requests relating to fellow ministers and missions.  First, Pastor Jack Bailey from the Danville Baptist Church left this past Sunday for a mission trip to Kurdistan.  Please pray for Jack and those folks ministering to the Kurds.

Second, Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy Tucker will be leaving one week from today for a month long mission trip to the Philippines.  They will actually be leading two separate teams with each being in the country for two weeks.  Bro. Johnny recently had a defibrillator placed in his heart so pray for his physical well being in a special way.

Speaking of missions, we still have a few spots left on our November 23 – 30, 2007 trip to Guatemala.  The Thanksgiving/Christmas trip is always so special as we are joined by our friends from Michigan and Canada.  Pray about it and contact me personally if you have an interest in joining us on this trip.

I will be meeting with Danny Lafferty today to discuss missions and ministry in Guatemala.  DLEA gave us our start in Guatemala and we are forever grateful for the opportunity.  Pray that we will have a productive meeting.

I am excited about Mike Blaylock being with us this Sunday, 4/29, for our 10:30AM service.  Please make plans to join us!

MONDAY, 4/23

The Lord gives the increase and yesterday morning we saw Hunter Ladnier come forward during our first worship service to receive Jesus as his personal Savior.  We give God the glory for this decision and I ask you to pray for Hunter as we seek to disciple him.

John Wayne Bosarge, Tina Sprinkle’s dad, is scheduled to have a heart catheterization today.  The doctors have plans to correct any problems they find today too.

I did not get an update on Ronnie Owens yesterday but know that he continues to need our prayers.  Mena Bosarge remains in the hospital recovering from her surgery.

My dad did well during his first week of chemotherapy until Friday.  He was pretty sick Friday afternoon & night.  He now is off for three weeks before taking another treatment for five consecutive days.  Thank you for your prayers for him.

I would ask the ladies of the church to note that the wedding shower for Karla Teasley will take place this Sunday, 4/29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  Karla is the bride-elect of Dale Bosarge.

Also this Sunday, 4/29, during the 10:30AM service, Mike Blaylock will be bringing the message.  Mike is Nate’s dad and is a vice president at the University of Mobile.  He is presently undergoing treatment for cancer and will be sharing about his faith in God during this experience thus far.  I would encourage each member of the Friendship family to join us for this special service.

I pray that you will have a blessed day as you seek to live your life to the glory of God!

FRIDAY, 4/20

Bro. Jerry tells me that Bessie Fernandez had a knee replaced; Ronnie Owens is evidently not going to be able to take his chemotherapy treatments for several weeks; Junior Bosarge’s mother, Mena, is to have surgery today.  Pray for these folks and their respective situations.

Yesterday was a good day for us as we spent the morning around the house visiting with several friends and neighbors.  Lisa and I had lunch with Wilfred & Shirley Johnson while Dana & Gina joined Derrick & Jodie for lunch in the mall.  The four of us along with Derrick & Jodie visited Casa Aleluya and then went to Joya Grande for the Thursday night Bible study led by Derrick & Jodie.  The six of us came back to the mission house for pizza with Paul & Cristy, Lencho, Samuel, Lazaro & family, Pastor Max & family, Pastor Walter & family, Mayela & family/friends, and Juan Marcos.  There were 40 something of us all together and we had a great time of fellowship.

I met Samuel for breakfast this morning at Pollo Campero.  We are going to visit with Pastor Max and family before heading to the city for the night as we have an early morning flight.  Pray for us as we travel home.

My prayer is that each member of the Friendship family will join us for Bible study and worship this Sunday.  Hope to see you there!

THURSDAY, 4/19

Perhaps you are thinking that we have disappeared in this beautiful country but not so.  I preached in chapel at the seminary and then we spent the rest of Tuesday and all day yesterday in Antigua.  I did not have internet access there as was the case earlier today here.

Pancho Arriola and I did visit with Pastor Walter and walked through the parsonage being built by the Rios de Agua Viva Church.  Last night, Lisa and I visited with them and enjoyed a time of fellowship and cake for their oldest daughter, Daisy’s, 12th birthday.

We are about to leave for lunch with Wilfred & Shirley Johnson.  It is then off to Casa Aleluya, to a Bible study with Derrick & Jodie, and then back to the mission house where we will host about 40 folks for a pizza supper.

Bro. Jerry says all is well at Friendship.  I trust that you will have a great day!

TUESDAY, 4/17

Obviously, the story that has captured everyone’s attention is the tragedy that took place at Virginia Tech yesterday.  We certainly need to pray for all involved in that tragedy.

Bro. Jerry sent me an e-mail yesterday that contained great news – we exceeded our Annie Armstrong Easter Offering goal by $414.60!  The $10,414.60 you gave is easily our largest gift ever to this offering – praise the Lord!  Thank you for giving to the Lord! To God be the glory – He has done great things!

Martha Patrick’s sister-in-law, Helen Swan, passed away over the weekend and her funeral service will take place today.  Please pray for Martha’s brother, James, and the entire family during this time.

Jennifer’s mother did well during her surgery and was able to go home later in the day.  Ronnie Owens had a port put in place so he can receive his chemotherapy treatments which they hope to begin real soon.

Our Monday was spent having lunch with Paul & Cristy Leytham, seeing Derrick, Jodie, Eugene, Luisa, and Samuel, the girls watching videos with Jodie, and having supper at Pollo Campero with Pastor Max Lara and most of his family.  I was able to squeeze in an afternoon nap too!

Today, I will have the privilege of preaching in the chapel service at the local seminary.  Lisa and I will then join the seminary president, Tico Vargas, for lunch before heading to Antigua to meet Dana & Gina who spent the night with Adriana & Sofia and are now in school with them.

You should see that volcano this morning – wow, our God is an awesome God!

MONDAY, 4/16

If you are a regular reader then you obviously noticed that I have not blogged since last Thursday.  Sorry about that but life has been busy.

J.B. Kelley (Bro. Kerry’s dad) had surgery last Friday in Hattiesburg, MS and did exceptionally well.  As a matter of fact, he came home the same day.  We thank God for watching over Bro. J.B. during this procedure.

Jennifer Jackson’s mother, Marie Howard, is having surgery this morning to remove a tumor.  Please pray for her and her family.

Bro. Ronnie Owens may begin his chemotherapy later this week.  He has such a strong trust in the Lord and a good outlook on life.  Pray for Ronnie and Mary.

Carla Kyser continues with her radiation treatments.  Sarah Thornton’s brother, Matthew Brown, was told last week that his malignancy is now in his head too.  He is undergoing radiation.  Ken Assink’s (Michigan friend) mother (88 years old) has recently been diagnosed with cancer and only given a short time to live by the doctors.  Mike Blaylock (Nate’s dad) continues to battle his cancer.  By the way, Mike will be preaching for us during the 10:30AM service on 4/29.  My dad begins his chemotherapy treatments today.  So, we have plenty of opportunities to pray.

Lisa, Dana, Gina, and I left yesterday afternoon (thanks Tim Burnett for preaching in my absence last night) and flew to Guatemala to spend the week visiting friends and relaxing.  The only scheduled ministry opportunity I have on the books is to preach at the local seminary tomorrow during their chapel service.  I do have plans to blog on a regular basis and will include updates as I receive them from Bro. Jerry via e-mail.
