MONDAY, 11/12

What a marvelous weekend!  For me, it began on Friday night as we had a “game night” for our senior high students which proved to be a great time of fun & fellowship.

Saturday morning was a blessing as a good number of the Friendship family showed up and really got a lot of things done in the buildings and on the grounds.  The folks who reworked the flower beds did a masterful job – thanks to Cooter for leading that effort!  I could mention many other things that were accomplished but suffice it to say that it was a great day and a huge “thank you” goes to each person who helped in any way!

Lisa and I attended the wedding ceremony for Pablo Matheu & Lori Lewis on Saturday night.  Pablo is the son of Paul & Cristy Leytham.

We had good services on Sunday morning as the Lord used Dean, Gayna, & Jeffrey Forrest, full time evangelists, from Montgomery to lead us in worship.  What a joy to recognize Lillian Brinkman, Ruby Foster, and Vivian Ladnier as the charter members in attendance for our morning services.

The supper was fabulous!  Thanks to Michelle Rolls and all who helped with the logistics of getting the meal ready.  Thanks to Sonny Hanson for cooking the meat.  Thanks to each of you who brought food.  Thanks to those who attended the meal as it was a good time of fellowship around the table.

The evening service featuring the music of the Forrest family and the preaching of Pastor Robbie Howard was great!  The Lord blessed and the day was capped with Christy Wynn receiving Jesus as her personal Savior – hallelujah!  What a joy to host Bro. Robbie and to sit under his preaching again.  Words can’t adequately describe the impact he has had on my life and ministry.  I thank him for taking the time to come preach for us and thank his family for coming with him.  What a great 60th anniversary celebration!

My nephew, Cody Smallwood, hurt either his MCL or ACL this weekend playing basketball.  Surgery may take place this week.  My aunt, Alice Gettig, in Michigan is celebrating her birthday today.  Happy birthday Aunt Alice!  (I think it is her 90th!)

The Alabama Baptist state Pastor’s Conference takes place today at Cottage Hill with the convention taking place tomorrow & Wednesday.  Our final night of FAITH for this semester takes place tonight.  We are readying for the annual community senior adults Thanksgiving meal on Thursday morning.  Busy, but blessed, days!

Mark Mast – got the list, thanks!  Bret Hart – thanks for being a Volunteer in getting folks on a mission trip next summer!  Ross Genzink – seen any Badgers lately?

Hope you have a great Monday!  Jesus is Lord!

FRIDAY, 11/9

The Widow’s Nite Out last night was an awesome time!  The deacons and staff did an excellent job of hosting 23 widows and 5 widowers.   Bro. Jerry & Bro. Kerry get their props for preparing all of the food except for the steaks.  Junior Bosarge & Phil Sims did the grilling and all of the food was very good.  It was a real blessing to see our deacons, staff, and their spouses ministering in the name of Jesus.

The Friendship family is blessed with some wonderful folks!  An example – Phil Sims left last night at 9:15PM and pulled a trailer filled with Christmas items for Casa Aleluya to Montgomery, AL.  He returned to Grand Bay at 3:15AM today.  I really appreciate Phil doing this as those items will be taken to Guatemala by a group from Cumming, GA.

Jennifer Wetterer is joining a team from Southside Baptist in Troy, AL and some other nursing students for a mission trip to Honduras.  They leave ATL this morning and will return next Saturday, 11/17.  Pray for them!

Don’t forget our work day in the morning at 7:00AM and then our homecoming services on Sunday.  I especially hope you will join us for the meal at 4:30PM and the service at 6:00PM featuring the preaching of Bro. Robbie Howard.

The Faith Academy football team plays in the AISA football playoffs tonight as they travel to Clarke Prep.  A win tonight places them in the championship game next Friday night.  Good luck Rams!

Hope you have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 11/8

The Lord blessed and we had a good Wednesday.  Our Girls In Action were involved in a walk-a-thon raising money for world hunger and thanks to each person who supported them.  Our business session was necessary, quick, and exemplified Christ.  We continue to make improvements on the grounds and in the buildings and I am thankful to each person who is helping in any way.

Neither Sharon Jardee or Ricky Mang were allowed to come home from the hospital yesterday.  Sharon hopes to come today and I am not sure about Ricky.  Jack Leasure was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.  He has pneumonia and will be in the hospital for a few days.

I preached Emma Brewer’s funeral service on 10/20.  Her brother, Vernon Frazier, from Texas attended that service.  Vernon went with us to Guatemala one time and has since taken a number of trips back working with Casa Aleluya and also with Paul & Cristy Leytham.  A few days after returning to Texas from the funeral, Vernon suffered a stroke.  Word came late yesterday afternoon that Vernon passed away.  I am saddened by this news and ask you to pray for that family.

Our annual Widow’s Nite takes place tonight beginning at 6:30PM.  Our deacons, staff, and their spouses will host thirty-one widows/widowers for a time of fellowship and encouragement.

I hope that you will have a great day with Jesus.

O by the way, Morris Bryant was in the service last night – amazing!

WEDNESDAY, 11/7

I received an e-mail from Missionary Mark Mast during the night telling me that it is cold in Canada.  My simply reply was that they don’t even know cold as it supposed to be near 35 degrees in South Mobile County tonight!  Those Yankees!

A city in California votes to display “In God We Trust” in public places while a city in Michigan votes to not allow a nativity scene back in front of their city hall.  I would have thought those votes would have been reversed based on geographics.

Carla Kyser was told by the doctor yesterday that her scan showed one spot on her hip.  They changed her medication and will wait two months before doing another scan and will go from there.  I was praying for no spots but do thank God it was limited to one spot.  Please keep praying for Carla.

Betty McDonald continues to receive her daily radiation treatments.  Ricky Mang did have an appendectomy yesterday morning and should come home today.  Melissa Brown went home yesterday and Sharon Jardee is supposed to go home today.

I saw Morris Bryant in the CAB last night coaching his Upward team which gives credibility to my long held belief that men tolerate pain much better than women!  This guy had surgery last Friday and was in the gym the following Tuesday – wow!  Morris will probably return to work before the end of this month – another wow!  A woman would probably still be “milking” that surgery for all it is worth!  Just my observation!

Kevin Wadkins is an LSWho fan or at least he was wearing an LSWho cap Monday – what’s up with that?

Another busy Wednesday with our morning service, the student Bible studies, the classes, and the evening service.  I hope you have a great day with Jesus!

TUESDAY, 11/6

Oops!  Believe it or not, I simply forgot to post an entry yesterday.  I left fairly early for the hospital and decided to post when I got back home.  It dawned on me late yesterday afternoon that I never did post.  Sorry about that!  (It is the time change!)

We had a good Sunday.  The evening message was strong and long but it did get folks to talking.  I have had a lot of feedback from those, young and old, in attendance.  I have been contacted by folks who were not in attendance wanting to know what the message was about.  You just had to have been there!

Melissa Brown and Sharon Jardee both had surgical procedures done yesterday.  They both did well.  Ricky Mang is scheduled for an appendectomy this moring at 8:00AM unless they did it as an emergency during the night.  Carla Kyser meets with the doctor today to discuss the results of her scan from last Thursday.  Betty McDonald continues to take her daily radiation treatments.  Morris Bryant & Aaron Odom are at home recovering from their respective surgeries.  Please pray for all of these folks!

We continue to have folks doing things as a part of Operation Homecoming which is getting us ready for the 60th anniversary celebration this Sunday, 11/11.  Thank you to each person who is helping in any way!

If you are looking to set a world record here is one you might want to break – yesterday, in Dublin, TX, Jackie Bibby sat in a bathtub for forty-five minutes.  No big deal you say?  I forgot to mention that he was joined by 87 rattlesnakes!  Today, he will try to improve on his world record of holding rattlesnakes by their tails in his mouth.  He set the record of 10 last year and will go for 11 today!

This is a busy week as we prepare for our Widow’s Nite Out and the homecoming weekend activities.  Please don’t forget the work day this Saturday morning beginning at 7:00AM.

Hope you have a great Tuesday with Jesus!

SATURDAY, 11/3

Yes, it is unusual for me to post on a Saturday but I wanted to give an update and a couple of reminders.

Morris Bryant did well through his surgery and came home yesterday afternoon.  Sharon Jardee remains hospitalized with an infection in her right knee.

“Fall back” tonight and enjoy that extra hour of sleep (provided you go to bed at your normal time).

Friendship family – don’t forget the GRACE meal tomorrow.  Also, we will be taking calendar orders tomorrow and this will be our last order of the year.   I need to hear from any out of town readers who are interested in ordering a calendar.

Happy first wedding anniversary to Chris & Nicole Taylor (today) and Kyle & Sueanna Bryant (tomorrow).   Will Jennifer Wetterer ever get married?

I am off to Tuscaloosa to watch the LSWho versus Bama game.  It will be nice to go to a “real” college game after watching two “Little Eleven” Conference teams play last Saturday.  Hey Ross, the weather here is nice for a game!  T. Garrett – I will yell at least once for you today!

Hope you have a great Saturday and that you will be in church tomorrow!

FRIDAY, 11/2

Aaron Odom came home from the hospital yesterday and that is good news!  Sharon Jardee was admitted to the hospital as she continues to have problems with her knee post surgery.  Morris Bryant will have surgery to remove his gall bladder this morning.  Please pray for these folks!

I think we would all be wise to conserve our water supply.  The town of Orme, Tennessee (145 residents) has already run out of water due to the drought and the mayor only turns the water on from 6:00PM until 9:00PM nightly.  They are trucking water in from Alabama.  Of course, the states of Alabama, Georgia, & Florida are in serious talks regarding the sharing of water supplies.

You want to buy a town?  The town of Albert, Texas (50 miles north of San Antonio) is up for sale on eBay for 2.5 million dollars.  You get thirteen acres of land in the deal along with a tractor shed, a house, et cetera.  Personally, I wouldn’t give 2.5 million dollars for the entire state of Texas! (That was for Gene & Gena)

Some folks are still scared to use computers and the internet.  Wonder what they would think of the ten Shell stations in Chicago, IL where you simply scan your finger across a screen to pay for your fuel purchase?  It is all about biometrics as the screen reads your fingerprint which is linked to your checking or credit card account.

Did you hear about the woman who found the bag on the road yesterday morning in St. Petersburg, FL?  It had $65,000 cash inside.  It had fallen from a Loomis armored car.  She called her supervisor who immediately called the authorities.  Isn’t it good to hear about an honest person?

Don’t forget to “fall back” tomorrow night as we gain that hour back.  I love all Sundays but have to admit this is my favorite Sunday of the year outside of Christmas & Easter.

Our students are making a second order of the 2008 calendars.  If any of our long distance readers want one or more, please send me an e-mail and we will add this to our order.  I need to hear from you by this Monday, 11/5.

I pray that you will have a great Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church.  Attend Sunday School.  Pull for the Tide as they play LSWho!

THURSDAY, 11/1

Christmas is here!  Not literally but it is certainly just around the corner as we have now entered the month of November.  Anyone know where October went?

The annual Hallelujah Festival went very smoothly last night thanks to Bro. Benny & Julie McGath and a host of workers.  I really appreciate all those who helped in any way as you did a great job!  It was a different Wednesday and it was a good one too!

Yesterday morning, Aaron Odom, had surgery that lasted about three hours.  The doctors were concerned about a large “mass” in his neck area.  It turned out to be a really large thyroid and they successfully removed it.  Tests will be done but the doctors fully expect the reports to be negative.  Aaron may go home from the hosptial today.

Today, Carla Felps Kyser goes for a bone scan.  She will meet with the doctor next week.  Please join me in praying that this scan will show an eradication of the cancer.  God is able!

My uncle, Bill Brown, has a PSA test today.  He will meet with the doctor on 11/12 to learn if the cancer was contained or is in other parts of his body.  I would appreciate your prayers for him.

We have a number of folks who continue to work on Operation Homecoming – thanks!  I ask all members of the Friendship family to remember the Operation Homecoming workday on Saturday, 11/10, beginning at 7:00AM.  We will end at 11:33AM as the Bama game kicks off at 11:34AM!

You need to note that we change our clocks back one hour this Saturday night.  This is the time when we “fall back” which is a good thing for church attendance the next morning.

Don’t forget the GRACE meal this Sunday.  Hope you have a great Thursday with Jesus!
