FRIDAY, 10/30/09

Faith wins!  Faith wins!  Faith wins!  Congratulations to state tourney MVP, Chelsea Cummings, and all tournament team members, Jamie Hall & Jessica Hall, as they led the Faith Academy Lady Rams to the 5A volleyball state title yesterday morning.  Awesome!  They went to Pelham “expecting to win” and they did!  A perfect end to a great season and high school volleyball career for these three girls!

Miss Vivian is much improved – praise the Lord!  So much so that she will hopefully be moved to a rehabilitation hospital either Monday or Tuesday.  She is upbeat and so is her family!  Keep praying!

I visited with Pastor Donald Sewer last night for a few minutes.  He and the family are doing well.  Pray for them as they walk through this dark valley.  The service will take place at 11:00AM tomorrow from the auditorium at First Baptist of Grand Bay.

Don’t forget the “Hallelujah Festival” tomorrow from 5:00 – 8:00PM.  Also, time changes tomorrow night so “fall back” one hour before going to bed.

I pray that you will have a great Friday/weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 10/29/09

I spoke to Pastor Donald Sewer via the phone yesterday afternoon.  The visitation with the Sewer family will take place from 9:00AM until the 11:00AM service time this Saturday, 10/31.  The visitation and service will take place from First Baptist Church of Grand Bay.  Valerie was 49 years of age and her passing was totally unexpected per Pastor Donald.  Pray for the Sewer family during this trying time.

This morning at 10:30AM, the Faith Academy Rams volleyball team will meet the St. Paul’s Saints to determine the state champion in Class 5A.  Yesterday, they won two matches to advance to this final game.  Good luck to Chelsea, Jamie, & Jessica and the entire Lady Rams team.  I believe they can win it!

Lisa, Tico, Armando, & I will leave Michigan today heading to Atlanta and Grand Bay respectively.  My plans are to arrive in Mobile and then make hospital visits.

It has been a whirlwind three days but it has been great to visit with so many of our friends and GRACE Ministries supporters.  Special thanks to Tom & Shari Compagner and Ross & Kathy Genzink for allowing us to stay in their homes.  These Michigan folks are great folks!

However, there is no place like home and I look forward to seeing our girls and the Friendship family.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus!

WEDNESDAY, 10/28/09

I would ask you to pray for Miss Vivian’s emotional state as she is really growing weary of being in the hospital.  She wants to go home as she has always been so fiercely independent.  She is really blessed to have such a supportive family but she still has these emotional struggles.

Miss Fannie Fortenberry did come home from the hospital yesterday.  I appreciate Janice Moreland letting me know that and Bro. Jerry sent me an e-mail too.  (Janice, I sent you a message but it was returned – sorry!)

I was humbled last night at the annual pig roast as approximately 200 folks gathered for a time of food, fellowship, and inspiration.  I only wish that each member of the Friendship family could hear the comments made by so many of the folks in attendance as they thanked God for you!  Tico & Armando did a great job of sharing personally and from the Word.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this special evening.

Also, I have to say a very special “thank you” to each person who cooked, set up, cleaned up, et cetera for the pig roast.  What a blessing!  Vriesland Reformed Church and Pastor Tim were a huge blessing by simply allowing us to use their building.  Yes, we are blessed!

I received the following from Michael & Linda Robertson last night.  They are in our missions budget and have been friends since their days at the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home & Cottage Hill Baptist.

The night of Oct 26,  we arrived in Ulan Bataar after a 12 hour trip by bus.  It was dark.  In the process of unloading our suitcases, and finding a taxi, we lost the briefcase with all our passports, Russian exit/entry papers, travel documents.  Lost or Stolen?  We don’t know.

Today we went to the bus station, called the cab driver, went to the US Embassy and to the Mongolian Immigration.  Nothing had been turned in.  The USA embassy said they could issue us temporary passports for $586 in one day.  Then in the States we could get permanant ones.  We are praying either the old ones show up because in them are stamped the 3 year residency granted us.

Checked with travel agent, fortunately our tickets could be changed, but the soonest available was Nov 2 with our family being split up on two flights from Seoul on Nov 3. We are praying that all of us can stay together if possible.

We are presently in a missionary guest house but have to move out tomorrow (as well as get pictures made for passports and go to USA embassy).  However, another Missionary guest house does have vacancy and allowing us to come stay there.

In the meantime, 2 of our children just developed fever and flu symptoms.

Would you take a few minutes and pray for them today?  Thanks!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

P.S. – Chelsea Cummings, Jamie Hall, & Jessica Hall will lead Faith Academy in the Elite Eight volleyball state tournament this morning.  Good luck to the Rams!  (The same goes to the Danville Hawks and Coach Spencer Cole)

TUESDAY, 10/27/09

I spoke to Billy Smith yesterday and he was in very good spirits and has plans to be in the service tomorrow morning.  This knee surgery has been “great” compared to his first one as there have been no complications.

Miss Vivian was doing well but desperately wants to go home.  She is pretty aggravated with the whole situation.

Fannie Fortenberry was feeling good yesterday morning and hoped to go home.  I do not know if that took place.  Pray for these folks.

I do not know the arrangements for Flo Powell or Valerie Sewer as those obits were not in the paper this morning.  However, we do want to pray for those families.

Lisa & I left yesterday afternoon flying to Detroit, MI for the annual GRACE Ministries pig roast.  That event takes place tonight at the Vriesland Reformed Church and I do appreciate that church being so kind to GRACE Ministries.  Tico Vargas & Armando Miranda joined us in Atlanta last night.  Pray for this meeting tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 10/26/09

We had a good day in our services yesterday – praise the Lord!  We welcome Miss Willie Roberts into the Friendship family.  (Sidebar for our OT readers – mother of “Pee Wee from Grand Bay” on the “Hey Coach” Bama radio show)

The Spanish service went well although our numbers were down a bit.  I learned last night that some of our faithful attenders to that service got a new work schedule that means they are working on Sundays through December.

Miss Vivian Ladnier remains hospitalized and I learned this morning that Fannie Fortenberry is in the hospital too.  Pray for these ladies.

It is with a sad heart that I report that Pastor Donald Sewer’s wife, Valerie, passed away Saturday.  She had been battling cancer.  I also learned that Mariam Moates’ life long friend, Flo Powell, passed away on Saturday too.  Please join me in praying for these families.

I would also ask that you join me in continuing to pray for Billy Smith as he recovers from his knee replacement surgery.

The team from 1st Wilmington returns home from Guatemala today.  Louise tells me they have had a good week of ministry.

Tom Burris is a friend from Faith Baptist in Bartlett, TN.  He sent an e-mail last night to say that he will be leading a team to Guatemala City this Wednesday.  They will be working with Mario & Amuy Monroy.  He asked for our prayer support.  Faith Baptist is a great church with an awesome missions ministry.  They are also great supporters of GRACE Ministries.

One of my friends happens to be a UT fan.  (It is the “all things to all men” philosophy!)  Anyway, he had the nerve to e-mail me last week to say that he had a “feeling” that UT would beat Alabama this past Saturday.  Please!

However, it was only a 67% good Saturday as ND beat BC!  It takes a Bama win, UT loss, and ND loss to be a perfect Saturday – LOL!

I appreciate the card and gift given to me last night for Pastor Appreciation Month.  I am blessed to pastor such wonderful folks!  Thank you for the privilege!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

WELCOME JAYDEN & JOSLYN TURRENTINE

Jayden (6 lbs and 12 ounces) & Joslyn (5 lbs and 15 ounces) Turrentine made their appearance into this world somewhere between 12:30 & 1:00PM today.  Everyone is doing great!  Congratulations to Josh & Tracy!

Whew, three posts in one day – I’m tired!  (That’s the equivalent of one year’s worth for Michael Mason!)

MR & MRS ???

At 10:11AM today, I officially pronounced Allen Glover & Edna Grace Miller Holifield as husband and wife!  The wedding ceremony was simple and short.  Allen & Edna were joined by family members and a small circle of friends.

There will be a reception in their honor on Sunday, November 1, from 2:00 – 4:00PM and the members of the Friendship family are cordially invited to attend.

Congratulations to Allen & Edna.  They are two fine Christian folks and I pray God’s best on their marriage!

FRIDAY, 10/23/09

Well, maybe it was the “first & last” thrift store fashion show that took place last night.  Oh my!  I will simply leave it in the “you had to have been there” category!

Today is a big day in the world for the extended Turrentine family as Josh & Tracy Turrentine will welcome a set of twins into their family!  Two more Turrentines will be on the scene!  Tracy is scheduled to undergo a section at noon today in Northport, AL.  (I think they should just move the procedure over to BDS!)  The boy & girl are both in the seven pound range weight wise.  Pray for Tracy!

I have to give props to my niece, Jamie.  She knows the details!

Miss Vivian had basically a “same type” of day.  She could not stay off of the respirator for long at all.  Miss Jean Jackson (Teddy Ray’s mother) remains hospitalized but will probably go home today or tomorrow and have out patient treatment next week.  Miss Kathleen Henderson remains in the hospital.  They tried to put a device in to “catch” a blood clot but were not successful in that procedure.  Mitchel Fox has a broken jaw and spent some time in the hospital but is recovering at home now.  Miss Doris Waltman (Martha Pierre’s mother) remains in the hospital.  Pray for these folks!

Jamie, Jessica, & Chelsea led FA to a victory yesterday afternoon and they now advance to the Elite Eight in Pelham next week.  I have looked at the bracket and, in my opinion, they are in better shape than St. Paul’s.  Congratulations girls!

The president in Venezuela is ordering folks to limit their showers to a maximum of three minutes!  (This household would be in trouble!)

A pastor and his church in North Carolina will hold a Bible burning ceremony on 10/31.  They will burn Bibles and books by far out writers like Billy Graham.  (I am not making this up)  Wow!

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

P.S. – I plan on adding a post later this morning.  It will be interesting!

THURSDAY, 10/22/09

We had another good Wednesday in our services.  It was good for me to finish another Wednesday with about 25 of our young adults in their 8:00PM Bible study.

Miss Vivian failed a swallowing test yesterday morning.  I was told they were going to do another one yesterday afternoon but don’t have confirmation of that.

I was also told that Miss Kathleen Henderson was in surgery yesterday but don’t have the details.

Martha Pierre’s mother, Doris Waltman, remains hospitalized.  Ben Glass is at home.  Shannon Young is now in a regular room.  Pray for all of these folks.

Lindsey Vice told me last night that her brother, Neely Hatcher, is in the hospital and is facing surgery.  Pray for him.

I don’t whether it is the “first annual” or the “first & last” “Sunday School Thrift Store Fashion Show” takes place tonight at 7:00PM in the CAB.  I am told that 32 folks will be displaying their outfits.  Should be interesting to say the least!

We need candy & cakes for the Hallelujah Festival.  Contact Dale Bosarge for more info.

I am thinking Ryan Johnston must be leading the NC team presently in Guatemala as they are not blogging.  Normally, they are “johnny on the spot” when it comes to updating daily.  What’s going on Louise?

Jamie & Jessica Hall along with Chelsea Cummings will lead Faith Academy in their volleyball match this afternoon as they attempt to return to the Elite Eight in Pelham next week.  Personally, I think they will dispatch of Carver and move on.  Good luck girls!

Personally, I almost always get my news updates from Fox News.  However, I guess that I will have to stop now since it is not a credible news agency.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 10/21/09

Lauren Joyner was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  I am sure that she & Landon will be on the mend for a few days but at least they are home.

Martha Pierre’s mother, Doris Waltman, has been admitted to a local hospital.  Young Ben Glass has been placed back into a local hospital too.  Edna Holifield’s sister, Arlene Hepinstall, is in a Hattiesburg hospital.

Miss Kathleen Henderson remains hospitalized.  I found out yesterday that Mr. Shannon Young also remains hospitalized which is about a month or so for him now.  I am not sure if Mrs. Jackson (Teddy Ray’s mother) is still in the hospital.

The doctor removed the stent from Miss Vivian’s esophagus yesterday and he said the procedure went very well.  He is thinking that is going to help her tremendously.  Her mindset had changed for the better in the past couple of days and she was up walking in place yesterday morning.  Keep praying!

Today is a regular Wednesday as far as our services are concerned.  I hope to see many members of the Friendship family in our services this morning/tonight.

A group from Wilmington, NC is presently using the mission house to do ministry this week.  They didn’t blog yesterday but I assume no news is good news.  They are building houses and doing medical.

Our CAB renovation committee will meet tonight at 6:00PM in the CAB.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
