MONDAY, 5/31/10

Yes, it was a holiday weekend but we had a really blessed day in our services yesterday.  Nanette Stevens came forward during the 10:30AM invitation and accepted Jesus as her personal Savior.  Awesome!  Lamar Mills followed the Lord in believer’s baptism last night as a part of our evening worship service.  I appreciate Lee Sessions’ assist in doing that baptism.  God gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

The members of the Friendship family responded beautifully to the fellowship.  Our attendance was very good and the fellowship was great!  Again, I really appreciate Bro. Benny & Julie McGath and Dale & Karla Bosarge for leading the effort in cooking the burgers, hot dogs, et cetera.  A big thank you to everyone who brought food, attended the fellowship, or helped in any way.

Anna Carol Bosarge continues to have health problems but they don’t think they are related to her recent surgery.  Pray that they can find the source of her problems.  Jayne English’s situation remains unchanged.

The church office is closed today for Memorial Day.  Take some time today to say a prayer of thanksgiving for those folks who have given their lives in order that we might enjoy the freedoms we have as Americans.  Thank God for our military!

There were somewhere around 100 deaths in Central America over the weekend due to Tropical Storm Agatha.  All is well in the area where the mission house is located.  Pastor Danny hopes to get out of CA through El Salvador today.  It appears the airport in GC will open tomorrow.  Our summer teams are going to have an even greater opportunity to do ministry because of the damage done by this storm system.

Dana & Gina have gone to Danville for the week, Lisa is at the island, and I am headed out the door to eat some weeds at my in-laws.  I do have to give credit where credit is due – the last two Saturdays have seen Charles help me cut the grass.  He mows our five acres while I cut the yard grass and he is only charging me $50 per hour – awesome!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 5/30/10

Several people have asked about the eruption of the volcano in Guatemala wanting to know if it is one we can see from the mission house.  The answer is no.  However, it is the one that many members of the teams using the mission house have climbed previously.  A group from Faith Baptist of Bartlett, TN climbed it on 5/16.  Dana & Gina have climbed it before.  There are eight active volcanoes in Guatemala and it is the most active.

The ash from the eruption of Picaya has closed the airport in Guatemala City.  The volcano eruption is only part of the problem in Guatemala right now as they are getting hammered by Tropical Storm Agatha.  A team from Faith Baptist of Bartlett is presently there and all team members plus all of the folks who work with GRACE Ministries are fine.  I was reading this morning that some officials fear Agatha, which made landfall during the night and is now a tropical depression, will cause more damage than Hurricane Mitch (1998) or Hurricane Stan (2005).  They were calling for 10 to 30 inches of rain because of Agatha.  Pray for the people of Guatemala.

We give God the praise as Hien’s passport arrived on Friday with the visa included – hallelujah!  Actually, it was in the box on Thursday.  I commend Grand Bay’s postmaster, Miss Kathy Grimes, and the USPS for a job well done.  God is good!

As a general rule, I no longer do birthdays on this blog.  However, today is an exception as it is my wife’s birthday.  Happy birthday Lisa!  I won’t get into how old she is but will say she looks much younger!  I married way out of my league!

Bro. Benny has everything in place for the makings of a great day.  He worked diligently yesterday setting up the slides, cooking, et cetera.  I pray that many members of the Friendship will join us this morning for Sunday School & worship and then come this afternoon beginning at 5:00PM for fellowship.

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus!

SATURDAY, 5/29/10

Caroline Ford did have a heart cath done yesterday morning and it revealed another blockage so they doctor placed another stent into one of her arteries.  She spent the night in the hospital and will come home today.  The downside is that the doctor told her she will not be able to go to Guatemala on our next trip but hopefully she will make a full recovery and be good to go for many trips in the future.  She is an asset to GRACE Ministries and the trips.

Joey Switzer’s mother, Shirley, is in the hospital with pneumonia and will most likely be there until tomorrow or Monday.

I saw Miss Joyce Bosarge at the wedding last night and she is basically the same.  I didn’t get to see Jayne yesterday but assume there has been no change.  Barbara Williams did go home yesterday.

Davy Bosarge and Ashley Fendley are now Mr & Mrs David Eric Bosarge – congratulations!

The volcano, Picaya, in Guatemala erupted Thursday afternoon and some more yesterday.  One news reporter was killed because he go too close.  A number of homes around the volcano were destroyed/damaged.  Guatemala City was covered in ash and the airport is closed until at least today.  (Why couldn’t the volcano have erupted a few hours earlier thereby stranding Soy?)  Pastor Danny Sinquefield of Faith Baptist in Bartlett, TN was supposed to fly out this morning in order to be home for tomorrow’s services.  Pray that he can get out of GC or El Salvador.  Pray for the folks displaced because of this eruption and for the family of the man killed.  A team from Faith of Bartlett is presently using the L.G. Camp, Jr. mission house.  The volcano won’t affect them but it appears the country is going to have some hard rains for a few days and that could affect their house building efforts.  Pray.

The Celtics did as I expected last night.  Hopefully, the Lakers can do the same tonight but probably not.  The Dodgers came back from two down to beat the Rockies by one run last night.  Auburn’s baseball team took it on the chin in extra innings which eliminates them from the SEC tourney.  However, they will be in the NCAA tourney and may host a regional.  Bama plays the Gators today.

Friendship family – don’t forget the baptism service and the fellowship tomorrow afternoon beginning at 5:00PM.  Of course, we are on a regular schedule tomorrow morning.

Why am I blogging on a Saturday?  Just trying to be like my hero, Dr. Jack Bailey!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.  I will blog tomorrow too – Lord willing!

FRIDAY, 5/28/10

Jayne English’s condition remains virtually unchanged as far as I know.  I simply ask that you keep praying for her and her family.

Robin Black & Chris Howell’s mother, Barbara Williams, had a heart cath type procedure done yesterday morning and it went well.  She spent the night in the hospital and will come home today.

Lisa & I visited with Nate, Maggie, & Jax Blaylock yesterday.  That child has a head full of black hair!  They are all doing great as Maggie & Jax were discharged from the hospital yesterday.

Mary Louise Harwell passed away and her funeral service takes place today at 11:00AM from Faith Baptist Church.

I do not know if Caroline Ford is having her heart cath today or not as I couldn’t reach her by phone yesterday afternoon.

Davy Bosarge & Ashely Fendley will be married this evening in a private ceremony in the church auditorium.  I guess the only “sad” thing about this is that they will be living in Mobile and attending church there which means we lose Davy.  He has been a huge plus to the Friendship family and will be greatly missed.

The Faith Academy graduation service last night was not nearly as long as I thought (only two hours) and Hien is now a high school graduate.  I really appreciate the fact that my sister-in-law, Sue, her daughter, Jamie, and Jamie’s boys, Grayson & Jace, drove from Danville to attend the graduation ceremony.  We are glad to be spending the weekend with them as our times together are too few and far between.

Kobe made an incredible pass to Artest to set up the game winning shot last night as the Lakers prevailed against the Suns.  However, I don’t think they gave him credit for an assist which denied him a triple double.  The Dodgers took it on the chin 1 – 0 at the hand of the Cubbies and the umps!  LOL!  Bama’s baseball team has apparently gotten hot at the right time relating to the SEC tourney.  The next Bama baseball game I watch this season will be my first but I do follow their scores.

Gotta go to Wal Mart as it is nearly 4:30AM and Lisa wants to know why I haven’t gotten the groceries yet.  Charles is hinting that his grass has “grown a foot” since last Saturday.  Soy got home last night and wants me to spend the day with him – whatever!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 5/27/10

Miss Joyce Bosarge did not get to see the doctor yesterday and it will now be next week before she gets the results from her latest test.  Carla Kyser was not able to have her chemo treatment yesterday due to a sore in her mouth.  Jayne English remains hospitalized and was resting yesterday afternoon when I visited with her daughter.  Kevin Vice’s brother, Dennis, has cancer and will have some dental work done today.  Barbara Kelley’s mother, Dottie Fore, is at home but still has a ways to go in her recovery.  Caroline Ford is really sick and is supposed to have a heart cath tomorrow but that may not happen.  Anna Carol Bosarge is still having some difficulties in her recovery.  Buddy Jones has slipped back into his depressed state and had some tests done earlier this week.  Pray for all of these folks!

Today is a big day in the Turrentine household as our daughter, Thi Thu Huyen Tran, graduates from Faith Academy tonight.  It is really hard for us to believe but it is a reality!  We are proud of her!  (However, I am not real excited about the actual graduation ceremony as they tend to be rather long!)

Wow, will the Celtics have any players left?  My prediction is that the C’s will end the series at home in the next game.

The Dodgers were able to beat the Cubbies last night so that makes me  happy and Wes Bates sad!  Sorry about that Wes!

Soy is scheduled to return home around 11:00 tonight.  He has been gone since 5/6.  I am encouraging all of the college guys/young adults to show up at his house around 11:45PM to play some video games, talk about the trip, and just hang out for a couple of hours.  It’ll be great and I am sure Deidra won’t mind as she doesn’t have school tomorrow!  She will probably even fix you guys something to eat!  11:45PM!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/26/10

I really don’t have much in the way of updates regarding those on our prayer list.  Jayne English remains basically the same, Miss Joyce Bosarge gets her test results today, and Steve Johnson came through his triple bypass surgery very well.

Our friend in the Atlanta area, Pat Patterson, had a sister to pass away yesterday.  She was 91 years old and lived in Gadsden.  Pat & Dee are good friends with Andy & Betty Hamil.  Dee has health problems so this passing just adds more to Pat’s plate.  Pray for them!

It is a long story but suffice it to say that Hien was not given a visa yesterday.  That’s a long drive to get rejected!  The moral of the story is that you should never trust Rita Padilla to make arrangements for you regarding a visa application at the Guatemala Consulate’s office in Atlanta!  However, all is not lost as the Lord gave us favor in their sight and they are supposed to mail (come on Clara!) the visa which is something they never do.  The fly in the ointment is that they kept Hien’s passport which took T. Garrett months to secure.  I assured Rafael that I was very nervous about them having that passport but he assured me they had never lost a passport (they mail others just not ones from countries like Vietnam) which led me to think “famous last words” or something like that!  Please join us in praying that we get that passport back in our possession and don’t tell T. Garrett what we have done!

The Dodgers got beat by the Cubbies yesterday and then the Lakers got beat last night – what’s up with that?  It is a conspiracy!

Regular Wednesday here today with the morning service and evening activities.  I hope many members of the Friendship family will join us.

Soy is scheduled to come home tomorrow night.  E-mailed me last night wanting to know if I would fly to Guatemala today in order to fly home with him tomorrow as he is scared to fly by himself.  I told him he wouldn’t be “by himself” as the plane had to at least have a pilot!  How much does it cost to have a ticket changed so a person can “stay” where they are?

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/25/10

Greetings from Atlanta, GA – more on that later.

I visited with Jayne English’s mother yesterday.  There had been no significant change.  The family is grateful for the prayers.

Phil Sims did well through his surgery and came home.  The wait getting into surgery was much longer than the actual surgery.

Liz Whalen’s uncle, Steve Johnson, (Dirk’s dad) is going to have open heart surgery either today or tomorrow.  Liz’s mom, Joyce Bosarge, is having a scan on one of her hips because of some pain.

Nate & Maggie Blaylock are the proud parents of Jax.  He was born yesterday afternoon and checked in at 8 pounds even and is 21 inches long.  Congratulations to Nate & Maggie!

We have wanted our daughter, Hien, to join us on a GRACE mission trip for several years but she didn’t have a passport.  Thanks to a fine lawyer by the name of T. Garrett Wright the passport from Vietnam is now in her possession.  However, she has to have a visa in order to travel to Guatemala.  Rita Padilla has taken care of getting that step lined up for us.  In order to get a visa, Hien has to appear in person at a Guatemala Consulate office thus the trip to Atlanta.  She & I left around 4:00PM yesterday arriving in Atlanta at 11:00PM.  We plan on being at the consulate’s office at 9:00AM and ask that you pray they will grant her a visa.  (If not, we may ask for a check card!)

The Celtics choked!  We need for the Magic to push them a bit. Can the Magic win 3 more?  Probably not but right now I will take one more.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 5/24/10

God used Mark Harris to minister to our people in a special way last night.  I could give you a number of evidences but the easiest one is the comments and then the e-mails.  Plus, I was there and witnessed it for myself.  Lisa & I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours with Mark & his family along with his brother, Mike, and we walked away blessed and impressed.  To God be the glory!  Again, thanks to Bro. Chris for helping set everything in motion.  (Did I mention that Mark is a huge Bama fan and he was at the NC game in January?)

Phil Sims is having surgery on his hands this morning.  I spoke to Kendall Wayne English via the phone yesterday and there has been no significant change in Jayne’s situation.  Barbara Kelley’s mother, Dottie Fore, remains hospitalized but could come home today.  Andy Hamil’s friend, Pastor Eddie Dietz, is recovery quickly from his heart surgery.  Austin Felps was in the service last night with his head freshly shaved and leaves today for boot camp.  Lois was in both services yesterday.  Bill Abendroth, Carla Kyser, Joyce Bosarge & Susan Quinn all continue to battle their cancer.

Thanks to Bro. Benny McGath for preaching during the Spanish service yesterday.  Lisa & I were at Faith Academy with Hien for the baccalaureate service.

Mark & Tina Mast are grandparents!  Congratulations!  Their daughter-in-law, Precious, gave birth to Zoe Faith Mast early Saturday morning.  Mother, daughter, & dad (Jonathan) are doing great!  Zoe checked in at 7 pounds 14 ounces and is 23 inches long.  Jonathan & Precious celebrated their first wedding anniversary yesterday.

Speaking of Faith, what a joy to have Faith Hovel in our second morning service yesterday.  She looked beautiful!

The Celtics are on fire and the Lakers took it on the chin last night – not good!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SATURDAY NIGHT, 5/22/10

Lisa & I visited with Jayne English around 9:00PM tonight and found her situation much the same as the past twenty-four hours.  I spoke to Kendall Wayne via the phone and assured him of our continuing prayer support.

Andy Hamil’s friend, Eddie Dietz, had open heart surgery this past Thursday.  He is doing well and Andy asks that we pray for Eddie as he recovers from this procedure.

Bro. Robbie will be preaching a series of revival services at Azalea Baptist Church beginning tomorrow morning and going through Wednesday night.  Pray for these services.  Karla Cooper’s dad, Bro. Johnny Howard, is the pastor at ABC.

Phil Sims is scheduled to have surgery on Monday.  Don’t know the details yet.

JAYNE ENGLISH’S SITUATION

Nanette Fontenot just sent me an e-mail with an update on Jayne English’s situation.  The doctors do not believe she will ever make any improvement and have suggested they take her off life support.  Plans call for them to place her in a room this afternoon and remove the life support mechanisms.  Pray for Kendall Wayne and the family.
