THURSDAY, 2/17/11

Our February “Potluck with the Pastor” was a huge blessing!  The food was superb and the fellowship was so very sweet.  Yes, the Lord blessed, and we we reached our goal of 60.  Thanks to all who came and helped make that service/fellowship special!

Our evening service was very well attended too.  I appreciate the faithfulness of the Friendship family.  It was a very special surprise to have Brian, Monica, Samuel, Caleb & Elizabeth Branham join us for the 7:00PM service.  They moved to the Houston, TX area 15 years ago.  It is great to know that they are very involved in their church and Brian is preparing to go to seminary.  What a blessing!

The funeral for Miss Jackie’s sister takes place this morning in Quincy, FL.  Pray for the family.

I think Clara Broadus remains hospitalized.  Linda May’s surgery was a success but I forgot to ask if she came home or not.  Cooter did come home after spending the day in the ER.  Ted & Merwyn remain in the rehab centers as does Nancy West’s dad (in Houston).  Pray for these folks!

Joe David & Lori Bailey’s son, Ty, will have surgery this morning in Madison, AL.  Pray for him as well as his parents.

Sorry to hear about the probable death of the oaks at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn.  What a absolute tragedy!  What a stupid thing to do!

Are you kidding me?  The Cavs beat the Lakers like a drum last night!  It seems the Lakers will not win it all this year based on the play of the Spurs up to this point.  As long as the Celtics or Heat do not win it then I am okay!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 2/16, UPDATE

I wrote earlier that it was a “regular” Wednesday at Friendship – wrong!  I have since learned that Gary “Cooter” Walton has been involved in an accident.  He is in an out of town hospital emergency room now.

Sherry Howell sent me a text to say that her mother, Clara Broadus, is in a local hospital.  I missed Clara in Sunday’s services which is very, very odd.  Clara requests NO visitors at this point and I request that we honor her wishes.

I also received a request from someone asking for special prayer this morning in a personal matter that is unspoken.

So, please join me in praying for these various needs.  Thanks!

WEDNESDAY, 2/16/11 – OTTO WAS RIGHT!

Miss Jackie Goff’s sister, Ruby Griffin, passed away on Monday, 2/14, in Quincy, Florida.  The visitation with the family will take place tonight followed by the service tomorrow morning.  Pray for Miss Jackie and her family during this time.

Linda May is having surgery this afternoon as she is battling a kidney stone.  Pray that the surgery is successful.

Martha was still in ICU yesterday but seemed to be doing okay.  Ted was moved to a rehab facility.  Merwyn seems to be doing good in his rehab.  Dee Dee’s dad was possibly going home.  Her mom is rehabbing at home.  Nancy West’s dad is still rehabbing in Houston.  Pray for these folks.

Wow!  There were 46 folks at GROW last night.  (I think they thought we were feeding them!  LOL!)  There are two more nights of training and then the ministry begins.  If you want to “catch up” on the training, Bro. Jerry is showing the week one video tonight at 6:00PM in the auditorium.  We need each Sunday School class represented in GROW.

Our monthly “Potluck with the Pastor” takes place today.  Marisa Felps is graciously cooking the hams and you are asked to bring the trimmings and desserts.  Lisa and I have the drinks and bread.  The service begins at 10:00AM and the food will be served immediately afterwards.  Our goal is 60.  Join us!  A “shout out” goes to Betty Creech for setting up the table and chairs for this meal – thanks!

We have a group of five men who will meet tonight, 2/16, at 6:00PM in my office to begin drawing up a floor plan for the feeding center in Guatemala.  Exciting days!

We are looking for more musicians to enhance our Sunday worship services.  If you play an instrument, please contact Bro. Kerry or me and lets talk.

The sheetrock was hung yesterday and the finishers should have their job completed by tomorrow.  Plans are to move to the east end on Monday, 2/28.  Folks in those rooms need to have them cleaned out and ready for the demolition crew by 2/28.  Thanks for your help.

Members of the Friendship family need to sign up now for the November & January GRACE trips as we will have completely full trips once others are allowed to sign up.

Regular Wednesday at Friendship today.  I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

Otto was right!  I posted this entry around 5:00AM only to find out at 8:15AM that it was an incomplete entry?  Computers!  (I am thinking that the disappearance of this entry probably coincided with the recipe for Coca Cola be taken!)

TUESDAY, 2/15/10

Friendship family folks are the greatest!  (I admit that I am biased in my opinion!)  Our work day yesterday afternoon was very well attended by young & old, male & female – awesome!  The four rooms are totally ready for the sheetrock which should be hung today! We plan on having those classrooms ready to go on Sunday, 2/27, and then move to the east end on Monday, 28.  Thank you to each person who helped yesterday.  (Personal observation – the women will take a break on you as they will go outside, sit down, talk, and admit they are on “break”.  Not the men, we never take a break!  We are men!  Instead, we stand around and “discuss” what we are doing, why we are doing it, how we are doing it, et cetera while the others are steadily working.  Just an observation! LOL!)

Tonight is our second night of GROW from 6:30 – 7:30PM.  You are invited to attend this ministry led by Bro. Jerry.

This Wednesday, 2/16, is our monthly “Potluck with the Pastor” with the service beginning at 10:00AM followed by the meal.  Lisa and I are providing the ham, bread, and drinks.  You bring the trimmings and desserts.  Our goal is 60 – join us!

Miss Jackie Goff’s oldest sister, Ruby Griffin, is in an intensive care unit in a Florida hospital.  Nancy West’s dad is in rehab in Houston, TX.  Dee Dee’s dad remains hospitalized in Mobile.  Ted Ezell & Andrew Jackson were hoping to be discharged from the hospital yesterday but I do not know if that happened for either of them.  Miss Martha Patrick’s surgery went well but she is in an intensive care unit.  Merwyn Gunter is in a rehab center.  Pray for these folks!

The forces of hell are mad but we had another person (Martin) saved in our Spanish service this past Sunday!  Praise the Lord!  By the way, Stan Hatcher has offered us an excellent field to host soccer games for our Spanish friends.  That is great!  It could possibly lead to Upward soccer in the months ahead – that will be Bro. Chris’ call.  I was so excited that I slept in my soccer jersey given to me by T. Garrett Wright!  I love soccer! (note that I am NOT behind the pulpit!)

The folks from the Reeman church in Michigan have already left the mission house and should be in the Guatemala City airport now (5:00AM) as they head home.  They have had a great week.  The house is vacant now until 2/28 when a group from the Prairie Bible Institute spend a few days there.

Burial, cremation, or liquid cremation?  Huh?  Supposedly, it is the “green” way to go.  Wow!

Got a really nice phone call last night about how this past Sunday’s message spoke directly to a person in the service.  Even brought tears to this person’s eyes and down their face.  (My preaching can have that effect!)  I appreciated that phone call!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus!  He loves you!

MONDAY, 2/14/11

Good day in our services yesterday – thanks be to God!  Our attendance in the evening service was very good especially considering that our students were away at Winter Jam.  I appreciate the faithfulness of our people.

Merwyn Gunter is in a rehab facility; Dee Dee’s mom is home while her dad remains hospitalized; Ted Ezell remains in the hospital as does Teddy Ray’s dad but I can see both of those gentlemen being discharged today; Nancy West’s dad continues to have problems and will most likely leave rehab and go back to the hospital.  Pray for these folks!

Miss Martha Patrick will have surgery this morning.  It is a little after 5:00AM and I am soon headed to the hospital to pray with her before the procedure.  Pray for her.

Work day in the CAB this afternoon beginning at 1:00PM.  I anticipate a good number present so it should not take long to get the rooms ready for the sheetrock guys.  Sammy & Carl Ray will finish up the electrical work this morning.

“Potluck with the Pastor” takes place this Wednesday, 2/16.  Lisa and I are providing the ham and drinks.  You bring the rest.  Our goal is 60.  Will you join us?

Members of the Friendship family – now is the time to sign up for the November ’11 and January ’12 GRACE trips.  Contact me personally if you need more information.

Great news for Lindsey, Bridgett, Daphne, & Betty Clair – laughing gas is making a huge comeback in the USA for women in labor!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

WORK DAY SCHEDULED

Tony Hacker told me yesterday that it will be necessary to have another work effort before the four rooms on the west end of the CAB are ready for the men who will be hanging the sheetrock.  Those guys are supposed to show up on Tuesday, 2/15.

So, I am asking the men/women who are retired (or off on Monday) to show up at 1:00PM on Monday, 2/14.  (Guys, what a great way to spend Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart!)  We need to remove a few pieces of sheetrock, remove some nails, and clean the rooms.  Hammers, nail pullers, shop vacs, et cetera would be appropriate tools to bring.

This should not take long IF enough folks show up and it will allow our “night crew” to be off.  Our goal is to have the classes back in their rooms on Sunday, 2/27.  Thanks in advance for your help!

PASTOR ALVIN SULLIVAN FINISHES HIS COURSE

Pastor Alvin Sullivan, 82, of Kushla-Bethany Baptist Church “finished his course” this past Wednesday evening shortly before 7:00PM.  He did not show up for the evening service so some church members went to check on him only to find that he had already departed this life.  He is now enjoying the rewards of his faithful service.

Pastor Sullivan served as pastor of Bethany Baptist (now Kushla-Bethany Baptist) for 54 years.  He was a very, very kind gentleman.  Pray for his family as they receive friends at the funeral home tonight and then gather for the funeral service tomorrow morning.

FRIDAY, 2/11/11

Teddy Ray Jackson’s dad, Mr. Andrew Jackson, will have a surgical procedure done today as they will do a by-pass in his leg in order to get a better blood flow into that leg.  Pray that all goes well for him during this procedure.

Ted Ezell continues to make improvement as do Dee Dee’s parents (read her comments on yesterday’s post) while Merwyn Gunter is looking at some time in a rehab facility.  Keep praying for these folks.

Reina Acan, Samuel’s wife, is in the hospital in Guatemala.  The baby is not doing well because Reina cannot feed her.  Pray for them.

Les Hacker, Carl Camp, and two other guys spent several hours getting the walls in place on the west end of the CAB yesterday afternoon.  Hopefully, the sheetrock crew can move in Monday morning.  Thanks to Tony Hacker for coordinating all of this for us.  I can see the light at the end of the tunnel – just hope it is not a train!

Upward basketball takes place tomorrow.  Pray that goes well.  Bro. Chris will be taking our students to Winter Jam this Sunday afternoon.  The students have to be present for Sunday School and morning worship in order to go with the group.  Encourage your middle/high school student to be here this Sunday.  As a matter of fact, bring them with you!

“Lottie’s Legion @ Friendship” continues to lead the effort to reach our 2011 goal.  We are ahead of last year’s pace at this time and we give God the glory.  Pray and give as God leads!

The Reeman team is doing well in Guatemala.  Keep praying for them.

One for two last night as Bama lost to Vandy while the Lakers beat those awful Celtics!  I was not surprised by either of those outcomes but was wanting a two for two night!

Ladies, remember the shower for Parker Vice (little TJ) this Sunday, 2/13, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  I think he is registered at St. Elmo Feed & Seed but that could be in error!

I remind the members of the missions committee of our meeting this Sunday, 2/13, at 5:00PM.

A guy in Illinois got several citations for leaving the scene of an accident.  He hit a tree, left his car, and walked home.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 2/10/11

Good day yesterday in all of our services.  Obviously, I was in the 10:00AM, 7:00PM, and 8:00PM services only but all three of those were very well attended.  Bro. Chris shared last night of how the students had a total of 170 something in the middle school & high school Bible studies.  Praise the Lord!  Their goal is 200 on 3/30 but they may very well reach that goal before that date!

The funeral service for Sheila Taylor was good as Arlene & Anthony did well.  Thanks to those who helped with the food for the family.

Ted Ezell was moved from SICU to the heart floor while Merwyn Gunter remains in CCU.  Teddy Ray Jackson’s dad will have by pass surgery on his leg tomorrow.  As far as I know, Dee Dee’s parents remain hospitalized.

I anticipate Tony Hacker putting up some walls today on the west end of the CAB and, hopefully, we can soon begin hanging dry wall.  Again, thanks to all those who are helping in this process.

The group from Reeman has now posted an entry on their blog.  They had a good Wednesday.  Pray for them.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 2/9/11

Lisa and I visited with Merwyn Gunter yesterday and he was supposed to be moved from the CCU to a regular room.  Not sure if that happened.  We also visited Ted Ezell in SICU but he was sleeping hard.  The good news is that he was not on a ventilator.  He looked good considering he had major surgery the day before.  We also stopped in and prayed with Mr. Andrew Jackson, Teddy Ray’s dad.  They are supposed to put a stent in his leg this morning and are praying that will work.

Mr. & Mrs. Douglas remain hospitalized too.  Pray for Dee Dee and her parents.

The funeral service for Sheila Taylor will take place this morning at 10:00AM.  Pray for Arlene and Pastor Anthony Langley as they minister to this family.

Bro. Jerry tells me there were 34 folks present for the first evening of GROW last night – awesome!  He plans a make up session for those who could not be there.  Contact him for the details.

We have a “new” team that arrived in Guatemala yesterday under the leadership of Dave & Donna Westhouse.  Dave & Donna just got home from leading a Moline team and now they are leading a team from Reeman.  Some of these folks have gone with Moline in past years but now their church is having their own trip.  Praise the Lord!  You can follow them at www.reemanteam2011.blogspot.com.

The renovation work on the lower level of the CAB continued yesterday as Sammy Bowden is doing the electrical and Tony Hacker is preparing to stand up new walls.  Pray for this project.

Our next “potluck with the pastor” takes place next Wednesday, 2/16, immediately following the morning service.  Lisa and I will provide the meat (ham) and drinks.  You bring the trimmings and desserts.  Great food and even greater fellowship.  Join us!

Regular schedule today.  I hope many members of the Friendship family will join us.

Our June 16 – 23 and July 21 – 28 GRACE trips are full.  Folks can still sign up for the July 14 – 21 trip being led by Bro. Jerry.

Now is the time for members of the Friendship family to sign up for our November 14 – 21, 2011 GRACE trip and/or the January 28 – February 4, 2012 (medical) GRACE trip.  You have until March 15 to sign up and then we will fill the openings with folks outside the Friendship family.  I can already promise you both of those trips will be at capacity as soon as they are opened to others.

Did it bother me to see UT get beat in roundball last night?  What do you think?  I do not care an awful lot for UK’s coach but that bright orange jacket that Pearl wears is killing me!

Speaking of pearls, think Valentine’s Day and our 2011 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering!

FYI, our Easter cantata will take place on Saturday, April 23, beginning at 6:00PM.  We will not have a service on Sunday evening, 4/24.  This is a new approach for us but one we believe will be best for our choir members and church family.

Today is Miss Edna Glover’s anniversary as our church secretary.  Is it 84 years?  Something like that!  Congratulations Miss Edna!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
