WEDNESDAY, 6/1/11

Can you believe it?  May is gone!  I am writing this entry around 11:00PM on Tuesday night and in just one short hour May ’11 will be in the history books.  Wow!  Time surely is passing quickly!  (Again, I am writing as though it is already Wednesday morning)

Word came to me via Jeanette Bates yesterday afternoon that Brenda Timberlake’s sister, Lisa Thompson, has ovarian cancer.  She is in the hospital and will begin chemo treatments before she is discharged.  Pray for her.

Sherry & Gunnar remain hospitalized.  I have not been told but I would expect them to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.  Pray for them too.

Yesterday was a day of more moving and trying to make our new house have that feeling of “home!”  The bank inspector came by and we are good – praise the Lord!  We got some living room furniture in place and received what we believe will be “crown jewel” of this house and hope to have it installed today.  Folks, we are blessed and I am amazed at God’s goodness to this country boy.  Lisa is a happy camper and enjoyed spending her birthday in the new house.

I was a happy camper as I took some time to work in the garden yesterday morning and then again yesterday afternoon.  Our green beans are in and the Lord has blessed us with a good crop.  The peas are right behind and it looks like that crop could be good too.  The okra is bearing and we have a boat load of peppers.

Red snapper season opened at 12:01AM today.  Tony & I will take Nick, Tori, and Dana out this morning in hopes of catching our limit of ten (is that per person? LOL!) and then get back for some more moving stuff.

Lord willing, I will be at the deacon’s meeting at 6:00PM, potluck with the pastor at 6:30PM, the 7:00PM service and the 8:00PM service.  Bro. Jerry will be preaching in the 10:00AM & 7:00PM services.  I will teach the 8:00PM service.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/31

This entry is actually being typed at 9:30PM on Monday, 5/30, even though the title reads Tuesday, 5/31.  Here is why – Lisa and I left the house early this morning to go to our new house to begin cleaning in preparation to move.  We began the moving process later in the morning and were busy all day.  So, I apologize for not posting an entry on Monday.  (I am writing as though it is already Tuesday)

Gunnar William Howell made his debut into this world yesterday afternoon around 5:45PM.  He checked in at 6 pounds 6 ounces and when I left the hospital they had not measured him.  Chris & Sherry are proud parents.  There were some proud grandparents and other relatives at the hospital too.  We thank God for a safe delivery.  Where was Aunt Robin Black?

I do not have any updates on the folks we have been praying for.  I was wrong about Maria Wainwright’s mother as she was not hospitalized.  She is fine!  Maria did not go to Louisiana.  My mistake!

Yesterday, 5/30, was Lisa’s birthday.  It is significant because we spent our first night in our new house last night.  Are we finished with the construction?  No.  However, I have been telling Lisa for the past couple of months that we would be in the house no later than her birthday.  Many thanks to Deidra, Ann and Lynne Watson for their help yesterday.  Soy, Cameron Watson, & Logan Wainwright helped move the big items.  Logan is a good worker!

I am on vacation this week in order to continue to moving process and I also am going to Michigan to officiate the wedding of Kaily Genzink and Nick Whistlebritches.  However, I will be at church tomorrow night for “potluck with the pastor!”  The meat is roast and we need you to bring the side dishes and desserts.  The meal begins at 6:30PM and the worship service begins at 7:00PM in the fellowship hall.  Y’all come!

Our bank inspection is supposed to take place today.  Hopefully, that will go well.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.  My entries may be “off” this week as we do not yet have internet in our new house.  No internet and no television – could be nice!

SATURDAY, 5/28/11

Maria Wainwright’s mother, Irma Hamilton, lives in Louisiana and is having some health issues.  Maria has gone to be with her.  Pray for Mrs. Hamilton who used to live on Hall Road in Grand Bay.

Brad & Daphne took Emmy to the specialist in Jackson, MS and were encouraged by his professionalism, personality, and optimism.  Another test was done and the doctor called them to say the results were better but a problem may still exist.  It is probably going to be three or four weeks before anything can be determined absolutely.  In the meanwhile, Emmy has gained weight and is doing good.  Thank you for the prayers.

Lisa and I were surprised last night by a very quick (three hour) visit from our sister-in-law, Sue, our niece, Jamie, and Jamie’s boys, Grayson & Jace.  I appreciate Kerry & Sherry Woods understanding and graciously allowing me to miss the rehearsal dinner in order to spend a couple of hours with family.  (Nanette was furious as she wanted me to sit with her family during the meal – she threatened to not include me in the family photo today!)  As always, it was good to see Sue, Jamie, and the boys.

The Fontenot/Woods wedding begins at 6:30PM tonight and you are invited.

The baby shower for Blair Hatcher takes place tomorrow from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  Betty Clair is registered at Babies-R-Us and Target.

The church office will be closed Monday for Memorial Day.

I pray the you will have a great weekend with Jesus.  Go to church!

FRIDAY, 5/27/11

Cynthia Cumbie was released from the hospital yesterday morning.  She is battling another staph infection.  Bill Unrue had his knee scoped yesterday morning and did well.  Greg Boutwell’s brother, David Boutwell, is hospitalized and has had multiple surgeries in recent weeks.  Miss Lucine Bryant remains hospitalized but is doing well all things considered.  Chuck Rockwell, Sara Nell Moulds, Larry Whitehurst, Maxine Dupont and Ethan McGath all continue to recover from their respective surgeries.  Carla Kyser continues to receive treatments.  Pray for these folks.

This entry is being written early in the morning and I have spent a good deal of the night praying for our granddaughter, Emmy.  Brad & Daphne will drive to Jackson, MS this morning in order to meet with a specialist this afternoon.  One of Emmy’s newborn test came back not good and a repeat test came back the same.  They met with their pediatrician yesterday afternoon and he set them up with a doctor in Jackson.  I am troubled but trusting in the Lord!  We ask that you join us in prayer too!

The Lord blessed and we passed the final inspection on our house.  Pretty amazing when you consider that Tony Hacker, Larry Crawley, Les Hacker, Jay Black, Willie Johnson & Carl Camp have all been involved in the building process in one way or the other.  We are thankful!

The soccer goals/nets/balls arrived via UPS yesterday.  The driver (Will Reynolds) simply left the boxes on the sidewalk and it began to rain.  How unprofessional is that?  I reported it to Kenny Lingle – UPS driver emeritus!

Jack Sims brought us a bag full of rattlesnake beans & tomatoes.  He is just the delivery boy as Annette is the garden expert.

Kristin Fontenot & Josh Woods will become Mr. & Mrs. tomorrow night about 6:50PM.  The ceremony begins at 6:30PM and you are invited!  (Nanette wants me to sit with the family but I cannot since I will officiating the ceremony!  She asked me to be there early for “family” pictures – wow!)

Ladies, please remember the baby shower for Blair Hatcher this Sunday, 5/29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.

We have a new coon hunter in the family – Soy!  You gotta hear that story sometime and make sure that I am the one telling it.  It involves plastic pellets, a pecan tree, dog food, a 410 shotgun, shovels, a tie, a Bible, and a backhoe.  Their yet to be born daughter, Soyetta Janell Taylor, is going to be so proud of her daddy!

It is a holiday weekend and I hope that each member of the Friendship family who is in town will join us for Bible study and worship.  I am thankful to those who have given their lives to protect our freedoms as Americans.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 5/26/11

Our “potluck with the pastor” went well yesterday.  We had a good number in the service but not as many stayed for the meal – their loss as it was awesome!  Bro. Sonny Hansen outdid himself with the ribs & chicken.  Someone forgot to buy any bar-b-que sauce but we forgive Jack Ciak for this oversight!  Overall, we had a really blessed day in all of our services.  The Lord is good!

Ethan McGath came through is surgery fine.  They inserted one pin.  He will get a cast at a later date.  Miss Lucine Bryant had surgery yesterday afternoon too.  She will be hospitalized until at least Monday which means she will miss Josh (great grandson) and Kristin’s wedding.  Cynthia Cumbie is in a local hospital with a staff infection.  Bill Unrue will have one of his knees scoped today.  Pray for these folks.

Lord willing, Lisa & I will receive the final inspection from the county today on our house.  All of the other inspections are over and we passed each one – praise the Lord!  We are not “finished” with the house but we are so very close.  The bank inspector should come next week and then it will all be over.  Tony Hacker has done a great job as our general contractor and we thank him.  We are grateful, amazed, excited, and blessed as this will be the first house we have ever owned after almost 31 years of marriage.  It belongs to the Lord and we pray that we can be good stewards of it.  “O taste and see that the LORD is good!”

The wedding takes place at 6:30PM this Saturday, 5/28.  The baby shower takes place from 2:00 – 3:30PM this Sunday, 5/29.

No more Thunder!  I think the heat will be on after the next game.  The Lakers have a new coach in Mike Brown.  Good hire?  Do not know but time will tell.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/25/11

Ethan McGath will have surgery today most likely around noon.  I was wrong in yesterday’s post when I said his wrist was broken in two places.  It only has one break but will need pins inserted.  Pray for Ethan!

Bobby Broome & Ann Clark’s brother, Gene Broome, was to have surgery yesterday but did not because of high blood pressure.  Not sure when they are going to do his surgery.  Pray for him.

We will have a “potluck with the pastor” today immediately following the morning service.  Sonny Hansen is cooking ribs & chickens.  Lisa and I are also providing the bread and drinks.  You bring the trimmings & desserts.  We are going to have a good time in the Word, good food, and great fellowship!  Join us!

Nanette Fontenot is mad at me – again!  I did not mention the wedding of her daughter, Kathleen Kristin.  Kristin will become Mrs. Joshua Woods this Saturday evening.  The ceremony begins at 6:30PM and everyone is invited!  Nanette is now telling me that we need to meet post wedding to discuss how things went – what?

I do not want Becky Hatcher mad at me either so please remember that there will be a baby shower for Blair Hatcher this Sunday, 5/29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  Betty Clair is registered at Target and Babies-R-Us.  (Becky loves me so she cannot be mad at me!)

KFC called me yesterday.  I cannot go into the details but suffice it to say that I now have the personal cell phone number for KFC.  Folks, that is big!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/24/11

This post is a bit late and I apologize.  Was waiting on David Westhouse but finally decided to go ahead post anyway.

The good news is that there are no significant changes for any of the folks we have been listing on our prayer list.  The funeral service for Miss Louise was a blessed time.  Again, I appreciate those who ministered to the family during their time of sorrow.  Keep praying for them.

Ethan McGath broke his right wrist in two places this past Saturday.  He is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow which will include inserting pins into that wrist.  Pray for him.

Tomorrow, 5/25, we will have another “potluck with the pastor” immediately following the morning service.  Bro. Sonny Hansen will be cooking ribs & chicken.  I appreciate him and his willingness to help us out.  Lisa and I will provide the bread & drinks.  You are asked to bring the trimmings i.e. probably beans/potato salad/et cetera.  I hope many of you will join us for this special time of Bible study, food, and fellowship.

I hear it was thundering for a while in OKC last night but it finally ended.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 5/23/11

We had a blessed day in our services yesterday.  What a joy to see Courtney Cavin pray to receive Jesus as her personal Savior while her husband, Chris, came to join the Friendship family by baptism.  God gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

Our bus ministry and children’s ministry enjoyed a strong day yesterday too.  That was helped by all of the “extras” who took part in the Saturday visitation.  Thank you to each person who helped with a special thanks to Bro. Benny & Bro. Dale.

Speaking of Dale, he & Karla will be ministering in Texas this Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday.  Pray for them!

The funeral service for Miss Louise Gibson will take place today at noon from the chapel of the Serenity Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until the service time.  Pray for J.A. and the family.

I appreciate Miss Vinnie Brewer handling the feeding of the Gibson family and I thank those who are preparing the food.  You are asked to have it in the fellowship hall no later than 11:00AM.  Again, thank you for ministering in this way!

Sara Nell is doing good in her recovery.  Larry W. was in our services yesterday as was Miss Willie Roberts.  Chuck Rockwell continues to recover at home as does Miss Maxine Dupont.  Carla Kyser still needs our prayers in her battle against cancer.  Mike Moreland’s brother, Chuck, has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.  Sonny Bates’ cousin, Junior Taylor, had triple bypass surgery last week and is doing well.  He is in a Huntsville, AL hospital.  Keep praying for Donald Butler’s dad as he recovers from heart surgery.

Wow, the tornado that hit Joplin, MO late yesterday afternoon is eerily similar to the ones that hit Alabama a few weeks ago.  Pray for the folks in Joplin.

It is getting warmer here with each passing day and I read that the heat has increased in Miami too – not good!  I was more amazed that Syracuse was upset by Maryland in the NCAA men’s lacrosse quarterfinals – I did not see that one coming!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

SATURDAY, 5/21/11

The funeral arrangements for Miss Louise Gibson are as follows:  visitation with the family tomorrow (Sunday) night from 5:00 – 8:00PM at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore.  Funeral service on Monday, 5/23, at noon from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home.

We will announce in the services tomorrow how folks can help with the food for the Gibson family.

Sara Nell Moulds called yesterday afternoon to say that she was at home – amazing!  We thank God for the quickness of her being released from the hospital.

Normal schedule tomorrow.  Hope to see many of you in our services, Sunday School, and Discipleship Training.

LOUISE GIBSON ENTERS HEAVEN

Word just came to me (10:00AM) that Miss Louise Gibson passed away during the night.  The arrangements are incomplete at this time but everything will take place from the Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, Alabama.  Pray for the family as they go through this time of sorrow.

I will post the arrangements on this blog once they are finalized.
