THURSDAY, 9/29/11

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?  Christmas ’11 will be here tomorrow!  Wow, September ’11 is gone!  Being “as slow as Christmas” might not be too slow after all!

Read online this morning about the illness associated with the cantaloupes from Colorado.  Basically, if you have purchased a cantaloupe recently and do not know where it came from originally then throw it away.

Pray for the pastor in Iran who has been sentenced to death simply because he has refused to recant his faith in Jesus Christ.  It may not happen as the pressure is on Iran from other countries to not allow it.  However, you have to admire the steadfastness of a 34 year old man who has refused to turn his back on Jesus.  As I understand it, he has a wife and two sons.

Louise Morris is about the same.  Judy Brooks has been moved from the ICU to a regular room.  Laurie Chandler continues to recover at home.  Blo Joe Guidry is in the early days of fifteen weeks of PT.  Pray for these folks.

Martha Patrick’s step-son, Jimmy, passed away yesterday.  He was 78 years old.  There will be a visitation tomorrow morning, 9/30, from 10:00AM until noon.  A service will be held at noon.  Everything will take place at Serenity.  Pray for the Patrick family.

We had a good day in our services yesterday.  We began chasing a Goose in our 8:00PM Bible study.  The 7:00PM auditorium crowd was down a bit which I guess was because of the rain.  I do thank God for rain we received yesterday.  Our potluck with the pastor went well.

Next Wednesday, Rita will lead a Spanish speaking Bible study in her home beginning at 7:15PM.  This is a nine week study on the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Ladies, please remember the wedding shower for Thea Whalen.  It is this Sunday, 10/2, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  Thea is registered at Walmart & Target.

I am having a hard time believing that the Braves & Red Sox both missed the playoffs.  The Braves are the first team in the history of MLB to lose an eight game lead in September.  Incredible!

Lisa and I are going to be away for a couple of days.  Most likely, I will not post again until Monday, 10/3.  Lord willing, I will be in the pulpit for all four services this Sunday, 10/2.  I am doing the wedding for Shea & Brandon on Saturday night.  By the way, the members of the Friendship family are invited.  It begins at 5:00PM at the Promise Land in Irvington.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 9/28/11

It is going to be a “wild” Wednesday!  The day begins with our morning service which will be followed by our “potluck with the pastor” in the fellowship hall.  Again, Lisa & I will provide the roast, potatoes, drinks, & bread while you bring the trimmings and desserts.  This is always a great time of fellowship.  If possible, join us!

We are on a regular schedule for the evening and will conclude with our 8:00PM Bible study where we will begin our study of Batterson’s book, “Wild Goose Chase”, which will be preceded by a meal featuring roast & potatoes.

This Sunday evening, 10/2, we will observe the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and baptism as a part of our worship.  Baptismal candidates need to meet in the office at 5:30PM and are asked to bring a change of clothes and a towel.

Visited with Louise Morris & her son, Steve, yesterday morning.  Actually, only visited with Steve as Louise was sleeping soundly.  Also visited with Judy Pierre Brooks and, while she remained in ICU, she was much improved.

If you are a MLB fan, today’s games should hold special interest to you as the WC spot in both leagues remains up for grabs.  Will the Braves on hold?  Will the Red Sox “choke” a playoff spot away?  Can you believe the schedule as it stands right now calls for game seven of the World Series to take place on October 27!  Whatever happened to “the boys of summer?”  O that’s right – television & money!  IMO, the baseball season should end in early October at the very latest and many of the playoff games should be played in the afternoon so children can watch without having to stay up until midnight.  However, I do not think Bud and the gang have called for my opinion.

The real sports story of the week is the Bama vs Florida game on Saturday night.  I am holding my breath on this one and I am trying to get Rick Bradley to attend the game!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

POTLUCK WITH THE PASTOR

It seems some folks are concerned that I have not mentioned our “potluck with the pastor” on the blog for the past two days.  As announced, we are having “pwtp” tomorrow, 9/28, immediately following the morning service.  Lisa and I are providing the roast, potatoes, bread, and drinks.  You are asked to bring the vegetables and desserts.  Marisa is spearheading the preparation of the food.  So, y’all come!

TUESDAY, 9/27/11

Had the opportunity to visit with Louise Morris and one of her sons, Phil, yesterday morning.  They were waiting to see the doctor as the weekends are not always a real productive time when one is a patient in the hospital.  Louise asked that we pray for her daily.

Martha Pierre’s daughter, Judy, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and had emergency surgery.  As of yesterday morning, she was in ICU and was in a lot of pain.  Pray for her and also pray for Martha as she drives to and from the hospital.

I need to remind the members of the Friendship family that the deadline to sign up for next summer’s GRACE trips is this Friday, 9/30.  We have had a good response thus far.  Are you on the list?

New to the Friendship family?  We would love for you to attend a fellowship just for you next Tuesday night, 10/4, beginning at 6:30PM.  Please call the church office to let us know that you will attend.  Thanks!

GROW visitation tonight.  I think that I am correct in saying this is the White team’s night.  Pray for this ministry.

Evangelist Johnny Tucker will be here on Sunday, 10/9, in all three services.  We are praying for a great day.  Join us!

Cowboys – aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh!  I was pulling for the Indians (Redskins) last night.  I am biased but I did feel the officials were kind to the Cowboys.  I am not a Tony Romo fan!  Teams that do not score at least one touchdown should not be awarded a victory!  (Unless that team is Alabama!)

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 9/26/11

Praise the Lord for His faithfulness.  We had another good day in our services yesterday.  What a joy to welcome three more new members into the Friendship family.  We were also blessed with a good number of guests in our services.  To God be the glory!

Ben Brinkman & Laurie Chandler came through their respective surgeries just fine.  Ben was in church yesterday.  Laurie is going to be in a cast for six weeks or so.  Shannon Hood, Pastor Terry Rainey’s daughter, came home from the hospital on Friday and is better.  They have changed her meds.  Pray for these folks.

Louise Morris remains hospitalized.  Keep praying for her.  I will visit with her this morning.

This is the final week for folks from within the Friendship family to sign up for the Summer ’12 GRACE trips before we open them to folks outside the Friendship family.  The deadline is Friday, 9/30.

If you are new to the Friendship family, we want to invite you to join us for a time of fellowship and information next Tuesday, 10/4, from 6:30PM – 8:00PM.  This will take place in our Christian Activities Building.  Please call the church office to let us know you will be attending.  Thanks!

Clemson handled FSU while A&M could not take care of the Cowboys.  It was a good weekend of college football.  I think I will go watch a replay of the Bama game while eating some bacon.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

FRIDAY, 9/23/11

How about some good news to begin the day?  Carla Kyser got a very good report from the doctor yesterday.  Her scans showed that the latest treatment is having the desired effect.  I do not know all of the details but do know that this is good news – praise the Lord!

Laurie Chandler is having surgery on her leg this morning.  Ben Brinkman is having surgery this morning as well.  Pray for them.

Miss Louise Morris was admitted to the hospital yesterday afternoon.  It appears she will be there for several days.  Pray for her.

Pastor Terry Rainey called me yesterday afternoon to ask that we pray for his daughter, Shannon Hood, as she was placed in a SC hospital with high blood pressure problems.  She has a physical problem that means she cannot tolerate high blood pressure so this is a serious situation.  Pray!

Malcolm Roberts served as the pastor of the Grand Bay United Methodist for several years in the late 70’s and early 80’s.  His wife passed away yesterday.  The visitation will be at the Spanish Fort Methodist Church tomorrow at 10:00AM followed by a memorial service at 11:00AM.  Pray for the family.

It is a little before 6:00AM.  I have made my Walmart run for the day.  Lisa told me last night that I best have the groceries bought and put away before she got up this morning.  Wow, she is tough!  She just told me to start mowing but I explained it is too dark yet.

Hopefully, this will be a good weekend for college football.  I plan on having pork tomorrow.  I am taking Clemson over FSU and A&M over OSU.  Can SDSU beat UM?

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 9/22/11

Word came to me last night that there were 14 students saved in the senior high Bible study.  That is awesome!  We give the Lord the praise.  I will be talking to Bro. Chris today about the follow up.

Overall, we had a good day in our services yesterday.  Our day ended with 30 young adults gathered at the house for their Bible study.  We thank God for His blessings.

Carla Kyser will get the results of her latest scans plus will receive another treatment today.  Pray for her.

Ben Brinkman will have surgery tomorrow morning.  Pray for him.

Sam Schjott gave me a big assist with a matter yesterday and I thank him for his help.  What a nice young man!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 9/21/11

I was told last night that Miss Louise Morris has an UTI.  She is not eating or drinking much.  Pray for her.

We are on a regular schedule today with the morning service at 10:00AM and the evening Bible studies/classes at 7:00PM.  Childrens’ choir is at 6:00PM.  Our 8:00PM Bible study will feature a great meal being prepared by my wife (it has to do with chicken & poppy seeds) and our new study books have arrived!

Please mark the date of Sunday, October 9, on your calendar and make plans to join us for the morning and evening services that day as we will host Evangelist Johnny Tucker.  We are asking you to help us have a high attendance in Sunday School, Discipleship Training and the services that day.

Also, remember that Tuesday, 10/4, is our fellowship for the new members.  That fellowship will begin at 6:30PM in the CAB and will be hosted by our staff and deacons.

I am so tired of hearing about conference realignment in the college ranks!  Enough already!  “The love of money is the root of all evil” and money is the driving force behind all of this.  TCU in the Big East Conference – that makes a lot of sense!  ESPN has too much power simply because they control the money i.e advertising dollars.  Oklahoma in the Pac 12 – love that ocean view from Norman!  Does this mean that I will no longer watch college football?  Are you crazy?  Bama rocks!  (and rolls!)

Here is my prediction for the weekend – Joe David Bailey will make no predictions!  He is so lame!  Mandy and I talk all of the time and she supports my theory!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus!

TUESDAY, 9/20/11

Carla Kyser is having scans done today and will receive another treatment on Thursday.  Keep praying for her.

Our GROW visitation takes place tonight beginning at 6:30PM.  I do not remember which team has the privilege of ministering tonight but do ask that you pray for those folks.

Upward basketball registration is taking place now.  Evaluations take place October 1, 8, 15, & 22 from 3:00PM – 6:00PM each of those days.  Practice begins November 7.  Games begin in early December.  Contact Kristy Sullenberger for more details.

Lisa and I are going to host another “potluck with the pastor” next Wednesday, 9/28, (not tomorrow) immediately following the 10:00AM service.  We will furnish the meat (roast), drinks, and bread.  You bring the trimmings and desserts.  FYI, the next “potluck” will be scheduled for October 26.

I want to remind those who have joined the Friendship family this calendar year to keep the date of Tuesday, 10/4, open for a time of fellowship with the staff, deacons, and their wives.  This fellowship will begin at 6:30PM and will feature a light meal.  Call the church office to RSVP.

We are nearing the deadline for folks from the Friendship family to sign up for the GRACE trips of next summer.  You have until 9/30 and then we open those trips to others.  We expect the trips to go capacity plus as soon as they are open to others.  Sign up before 9/30.

I have decided to not make any predictions for this college football weekend.  Why?  Joe David Bailey simply copies my predictions calling them his own in his weekly blog entry.  This weekend he will sink or swim on his own (unless he steals them from Rex Looney)

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 9/19/11

This is late and I apologize.  Call me lazy this morning!  Too much to write.  What a great Sunday we enjoyed yesterday as God blessed our services.  Dale & Karla did an outstanding job in ministering to us last night!  The presentation of the Gospel was clear and concise and we had three folks accept Jesus as their personal Savior.  Praise the Lord!

Marisa and the folks who helped her with the fellowship did an awesome job too!  Am I surprised?  Absolutely not!  They always do well!

The Finance Committee is to be commended for a job well done in putting together a proposed budget for this church year (8/1/11 – 7/31/12) that is now the budget as it was adopted by the church family last night.  IMO, it is a God thing budget and He is doing some great things within our church family.

Have you joined i.e. by baptism, letter, statement, et cetera this calendar year?  If so, our deacons and staff will be hosting a fellowship for you on Tuesday, October 4, beginning at 6:30PM.  This is a chance for you to get to know your church more personally.  You should be receiving an invitation within the next few days.  Please RSVP by calling the church office.  Considering joining?  Been a member longer than since January?  Want to attend this fellowship?  Great!  Simply call the church office too.  (You will not be getting a letter of invitation but you do have a standing invite!)

Wow, there were like 1,321 women on our property this past Saturday for Soyetta’s shower.  It was a baby shower and parade of homes all wrapped in one.  Thank you to each one who attended and especially those who helped host it.

The “real” season begins for Bama this Saturday as those Hogs come to town.  I was totally surprised that ND beat MSU this past Saturday.  Kirk Cousins is a nice guy.

Speaking of Michigan, our friend, Dave Westhouse, is having back problems and will have surgery in October.  Please join me in praying for him.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!
