WEDNESDAY, 2/29/12

Happy birthday Junior Taylor!  (I know he does not read the blog but he is the only person I know personally who was born on 2/29)  Junior and Sonny Bates are cousins.  He is a neighbor to my parents, our families went to the same church, and I worked at Western Auto in Hartselle with him back in the day.

Peggy Knighten is having surgery today.  Pray that all goes well!

Adam Cordelle was in the hospital from Friday until yesterday.  I visited with him yesterday morning and he was much improved.

Visited with Coley Johnson’s mother yesterday too.  She remains hospitalized but is doing better.

Visited with the family of Bro. Chris’ uncle yesterday.  Really no change in Mr. Taylor’s condition.

I had the opportunity yesterday to visit with Miss Exie Woods and Merwyn Gunter in a convalescent facility.  Both were doing good.

A “souper” “potluck with the pastor” takes place this morning immediately following our service.  You bring the soup and everything else will be provided.

We need the folks who plan on attending the webinar on 3/10 to sign up by this Sunday, 3/4, so we can be properly prepared.

Tough night last night for our MSU fans in Michigan.  I am not really surprised that IU beat them but by 15 – wow!  Come on Sparty, beat OSU!

Joe David, man up!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus!

TUESDAY, 2/28/12

Chris Taylor’s uncle did live through the day on Sunday and, according to Bro. Chris, was “some” better yesterday.  Keep praying for him.

Peggy Knighten will have surgery tomorrow.  I think it is outpatient.

My sister-in-law’s (Sue) mother is in a hospital in Huntsville.  She continues to have problems breathing.  Pray for Miss Sarah.

We will have our monthly “pot luck with the pastor” tomorrow immediately following the morning service.  This will be a “souper” fellowship and you are asked to bring the soup.  Lisa and I will provide salad, dessert, and drinks.

Speaking of food, the event formerly known as “the taste of Friendship” will take place on Saturday, 3/24.  I have no idea what it is called now but do encourage you to purchase tickets and support our students.  It is always a great evening of food and fellowship.

I have been keeping up with the Moline team via their blog and they have had a very good week.  They head home to the snow/cold tomorrow.  Pray for their safety in travel.

Bro. Jerry’s GRACE team will host a yard sale 3/15 – 17 to support the ministry portion of their trip.  It will take place in the CAB.

The webinar will take place on 3/10 from 10:00AM until 1:30PM.  Last I heard, we had around 30 folks already signed up for this time of teaching.  Remember, it is not absolutely necessary but would be helpful if you would sign up by this Sunday, 3/4.

Can you believe that I stayed up and watched the Daytona 500 last night?  Have I lost my mind or what?  The fire was pretty spectacular.  I did not care who won the race as long as Junior did not win.  (Where were the Allison brothers?)

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 2/27/12

Bro. Chris told me yesterday afternoon that the doctors were thinking that his uncle would not live through the day.  I have not heard different since this so I assume that he is still living.  However, it is obviously a difficult time for the Taylor family and I ask that you pray for them.

Merwyn Gunter went back to the convalescent facility.  I appreciate those who attended the visitation/funeral service for Linda Green’s brother-in-law.

It was great to have Dean & Jan Kapenga in our services yesterday.  Dean shared a good word in last night’s service about how the Lord has used GRACE Ministries to impact their lives individually and the life of their church.

Speaking of that, Dave & Donna Westhouse will spend today with their second team of 2012 doing house dedications.  They leave for home tomorrow.  Dave & Donna are great friends/supporters/ partners of GRACE Ministries.  Pray that they will have a great final day and then safety in their travels home.

We had a really good day in our services yesterday.  Praise the Lord!  After the evening service, I had the glorious privilege of leading a young lady to the Lord.  I think she will make that decision public this coming Sunday.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 2/26/12

Linda Green’s brother-in-law, Earl Watts, passed away on Friday, 2/24.  The visitation with the family will take place today, 2/26, from noon until 2:00PM at the Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Mississippi.  The funeral service will begin at 2:00PM.  Pray for the family.

FRIDAY, 2/24/12

Merwyn Gunter remains in CCU in a local hospital.  I visited with him yesterday afternoon and he seemed to be doing good.  He said they did not have any rooms (telemetry) available to move him from the CCU.

Bro. Jerry visited Linda Green’s sister and her husband yesterday afternoon.  No significant change in that situation.  Keep praying.

I assume that Bro. Robbie will be driving home from Scobey, MS today.  Pray for him in his travels.

Our church will host the service at the Mission of Hope tonight beginning at 7:00PM.  The bus leaves the church at 6:15PM.  Bro. Jerry will be preaching.  I am not sure who is singing (Larry Whitehurst maybe?) but it will be a blessing.  You are invited to join them for this service.

There is a mandatory meeting this Sunday night, 2/26, immediately following the evening service for all folks going on the June 14 – 21 GRACE Ministries trip.  All “no shows” will be removed from the list unless they have contacted me prior to the meeting.

The Bama men got a pretty big victory for them last night over those Hogs.  I do not keep up with women’s basketball in the SEC but did see where AU absolutely drilled Bama by 41 last night – wow!  (Pastor Bob Harvey is all smiles today!)

We are on a regular schedule this Sunday.  Lord willing, I will be preaching in all four of the worship services.  I hope to see many members of the Friendship family present.  I pray your weekend will be blessed!

THURSDAY, 2/16/12

Our Wednesday evening attendance was affected by the public schools not being in session.  I am only going by the 7:00PM attendance in the auditorium and do not know what the attendance was in the classes/Bible studies.  Actually, for the first time ever, our 10:00AM service outnumbered our 7:00PM service but it is all good.

Merwyn Gunter was taken to the hospital by ambulance yesterday due to his defibrillator being activated.  As a matter of fact, they were not able to transport him to the hospital of choice but had to stop at one located closer.  He has been stabilized.  Pray for Merwyn.

Linda Green’s brother-in-law has been taken off all machines, medicines, et cetera except for pain medication.  The doctors have told the family not to expect him to live more than a couple of days.  Pray for him and his family.

Carla Kyser is having a rough time with the round of chemotherapy.  Tommy Johnson’s dad receives another chemo treatment today just as he was beginning to feel better.  Tena Hovel’s father is battling fatigue in his fight with cancer.  Pray for these folks.

As it stands now, the Spring Cleaning trip to Guatemala is on hold and most likely not going to happen.  Airfares have risen to an unacceptable level.  They were good for a few days but you have to strike while the iron is hot when trying to purchase airline tickets.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 2/22/12

Visited with Coley’s mother yesterday and she remains upbeat even though she is facing another five weeks or so in the hospital.  They are doing wound care daily.  Pray for her.

Keep praying for Carla Kyser and Mr. Johnson as they go through their respective treatments for cancer.

I have heard from a couple of potential “Spring cleaners” and really need to hear from two or three more to make the trip worthwhile.  Contact me with your questions of for more information.

Folks going on our June 14 – 21 GRACE Ministries trip must attend a mandatory meeting this Sunday immediately following the evening service.  If you cannot attend the meeting, you must contact me beforehand with a valid reason.  This meeting is a must!

We are on a regular schedule today.  I really encourage our 8:00PM participants to be present as we will view another video and have discussion.  You can read through chapter four in the book.

I had the opportunity to visit with and spend some time with Dunnam last night.  Will my life ever be the same?

Did anyone (other than Arnold Strahan and Chuck Rockwell) really believe State could beat UK last night?  Even though the Cats were down by thirteen at the half, Timber was not worried – had them right where they wanted them!  Anthony Davis is the man!  (Reminds me of Les Hacker back in the day!)

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 2/21/12

Coley Johnson’s mother remains hospitalized.  I plan on visiting with her this morning.

Still listening to see if there are folks out there who want to join us on the Spring cleaning trip to Guatemala?  If so , contact me immediately or sooner.

Greg Oden of the Portland Trailblazers had another surgery and his NBA season is over – again!  Oden has made millions in the NBA and has played very few games.  Wow, and to think the Trailblazers selected him ahead of Kevin Durant in the draft. Can you say Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan in an earlier draft?

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 2/20/12

I posted an update yesterday afternoon on the folks for whom we have been praying.  I will simply add that, as of the service time last night, Betty Clair’s sister was still in labor.  I would suppose that she has given birth by now (5:50AM) but I do not know that for cetain.

Chad Blakeney has preached/taught for two of the past three Sundays in our Spanish service.  Jim Chinners has also been preaching in some of those services and helping with the music.  I appreciate these guys as they have joined Rita & Becky in leading this ministry.  Pray for this ministry.

The Lord blessed and we had a very good service last night.  Obviously, the students helped our number to be up but we would have had a very nice attendance regardless.  Again, thank you Friendship family for being faithful!

I had one person speak to me about the possibility of helping with the Spring cleaning in Guatemala.  (Read Saturday’s entry for the details)  I need to hear from any interested folks by this Wednesday, 2/15.  You need to be ready to make a commitment at that time.  Contact me with your questions.  Airfares can change quickly!

Speaking of Guatemala, all persons signed up for the June 14 – 21, 2012 trip need to attend a mandatory meeting this Sunday night, 2/26, immediately following the 6:00PM service.  A must!

Michigan on Saturday night and then Michigan State yesterday both picked up nice wins in college basketball.  I am now hearing that MSU could get a number one seed in the tourney – impressive.  Izzo can coach!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 2/19/12

Bro. Robbie began preaching a series of revival services in Scobey, MS today.  Pray for him.  Pray for revival.

Coley Johnson’s mother has now been told that she will be in the hospital for six more weeks.  Coley says she is okay with this as she wants to get well.  Pray for her.

It appears that Merwyn Gunter will be living in a convalescent facility from this point forward.  I talked to Hilda today and she said that he is adjusting to this change in his life.  Pray for Merwyn.

Bro. Chris’s uncle remains hospitalized and there is really no change in his situation.  Pray for him and his family as they wait beside him.

Betty Clair Hatcher’s twin sister was in labor this morning and had plans to go natural in the birthing process.  Pray that all goes well.

It is now Sunday afternoon as I write this (very unusual for me to be online on a Sunday) and we had a good day in our morning services.  Thank you Friendship family for being faithful!

We are in the book of Revelation tonight and the students will go late night bowling since there is no public school tomorrow.
