Chris’ dad are as follows:  visitation from noon until 2:00PM on Wednesday, May 2, with the service beginning at 2:00PM.  The visitation and service will take place from the Evangelical Methodist Church on Padgett Switch Road in Irvington.  Keep praying for the Taylor family.

MONDAY, 4/30/12

It is a little after 5:00AM as I write this entry.  Bro. Chris sent me an e-mail saying that his father, Mr. George Taylor, passed away shortly after midnight.  Bro. Chris and I talked at church last night and he told me that he (Chris) was ready and that he was not ready.  He did not want to see his dad suffer any longer.  Those of you who have watched a loved one pass away understand Bro. Chris’ emotions.  Pray for Bro. Chris and the entire Taylor family.

Tommy Johnson’s mother (Coley’s grandmother) will have a procedure done on her heart today.  It has to do with the electrical part of her heart.  Pray for her.

Buddy Brewer remains hospitalized.  He is having blood clot issues and they are trying to regulate the blood thinner.  Pray for Buddy.

Herbert Benefield’s niece will have a heart cath today.  Pray for her.

Bill & Debbie Kendrick have an eleven year old grandson in Alaska.  He has pneumonia.  He went to the ER yesterday.  They sent him home with a boatload of medicines.  Pray these will work and that he will get well soon.

Continue to pray for Carla Kyser, Paul Leytham, Gussie Johson, Carla Parker and the others on our list who are battling cancer.

We had a very good day in our services yesterday.  What a joy to see Robert Waldrop join the Friendship family by transfer of letter.  Our attendance was good and the Spirit was excellent.  We give God the glory!

There will be a baby shower for Ethan & Brittney Nelson this Sunday, 5/6, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  They are expecting their first child, Eli, in July.  They are faithful members of the Friendship family.  Brittney is Maria Wainwright’s daughter or should I just identify her as Logan’s sister?

Ten of us leave tomorrow headed to Guatemala to do cleaning and repairing on the mission house.  Six of us will be traveling to El Salvador on Friday to officially “adopt” our daughter church.  Pray for us.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 4/27/12 (UPDATED)

Miss Vinnie’s son, Buddy, had two stents placed in his arteries yesterday.  He had another major artery that was completely blocked but it happened some time ago and had by-passed itself.  Buddy should come home from the hospital today.

Update – Miss Vinnie left me a voice mail that said there had been some complications and Buddy is confined to bed rest for the time being.  I will update whenever I get another word.

Shaun Burrell had a heart cath yesterday morning too.  However, I do not have an update on his condition.

Tommy Johnson’s mother will have a heart cath today.  She is so ready to get out of the hospital.  Tommy’s dad will soon begin radiation treatments.

Derrick Wilkerson had an appointment with the doctor yesterday.  He got a good report which bodes well for Derrick & Jodie getting appointed by the IMB.  I am praying for a September ’12 appointment.

Heard from Mike Parker during the night.  His wife’s cancer was not in the lymph nodes.  Praise the Lord!

The Friendship family will host the service at the Mission of Hope tonight beginning at 7:00PM.  Jerry Whitmore will bring the message.  You are invited to join this service.

Senior Adult Day this Sunday, 4/29, in our 10:30AM service.  A free lunch (mama always said there was no such thing) follows at The Heritage House.  Senior adults, please join us for this special service.

The wedding shower for Amy Yelverton takes place this Sunday, 4/29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  I forgot to mention that she is also registered at St. Elmo Feed & Seed.

We are on a regular schedule this Sunday.  Lord willing, I will be preaching in both morning services and the evening service.  I pray that many members of the Friendship family will join us for Bible study and worship.

Four members of the Crimson Tide were picked in the first round of the NFL draft last night.  I know many folks thought five would be the number but four is pretty good.  I am  happy and I think Ross H. is too.  Or is that Ryan H.?

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 4/26/12

Miss Vinnie Brewer’s son, Buddy, will have a heart cath this morning.  Tommy Johnson’s mother will have a heart cath tomorrow morning.  Pray for these folks.

Carla Kyser had a problem with her port yesterday morning but it corrected itself.  Thanks be to God.

Pastor Jack Bailey is doing well in his recovery from surgery.  He begins therapy today.

Keep praying for Bro. Chris’ dad.  Reb Nevin’s sister-in-law, Cathy, also needs our prayers.

The wedding shower for Amy Yelverton will take place this Sunday, 4/29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  Ladies, please take note.  I think she is registered at Greer’s and Joey’s lube shop but I could be wrong on that one.

Greg Boutwell, Blow Joe Guidry, and Phil Sims did a great job of frying the fish for yesterday’s “potluck with the pastor”.  We had a really nice crowd and you did very well in bringing the sides too.  Good food and great fellowship!

There will be no repeat winner in the Stanley Cup playoffs this year as the Caps beat the Bruins last night to win that series 4-3.  Jerry Whitmore is a happy camper this morning!

If Kobe plays tonight, he will stand a good chance of winning the NBA scoring title.  He needs 38 points or more to pass Durant.  Go Lakers!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 4/25/12

Bro. Chris’ dad came home from the hospital yesterday.  As I posted earlier, he is now under hospice care.  Pray for him and the family.

Tim Knighten e-mailed yesterday to say that his mother will most likely be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.  Keep praying as she recovers from her surgery.

Pastor Jack Bailey blogged that he did well through his surgery and was experiencing no pain as of 2:00AM this morning.

To be honest, I was surprised that Jerry Carl defeated Mike Dean in the county commission election but even more surprised by the margin of victory.  I thought the low voter turn out would favor the incumbent.  Shows how much (little) I know!  I do know that the poll workers where I vote treat me badly.  I filed a complaint yesterday!  LOL!

“Potluck with the Pastor” takes place today immediately following our morning service.  It is a fish fry and you are asked to bring the trimmings and desserts.  We are going to have good fellowship!

We are on a regular schedule for tonight.  Hope to see many members of the Friendship family present.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus!

SENIOR ADULT SUNDAY

This Sunday, 4/29, we are going to honor God by recognizing our senior adults in our 10:30AM service.  We respectfully request that all of our senior adults attend the second morning service and then join Bro. Kerry as the church treats you to a meal at The Heritage House restaurant.

The Heritage House is owned by Miss Kathleen Henderson.  It is close and it is a buffet which means there will be no wait time on the food.  Bro. Kerry will be driving the bus for those who need transportation.  I anticipate you can easily be back home by 1:00 – 1:15PM which gives you plenty of time to take a Sunday nap before the evening service.

“POTLUCK WITH THE PASTOR”

I forgot yesterday and again today to mention our next “potluck with the pastor” which takes place tomorrow, 4/25, immediately following the morning service.  This will be a fish fry with Blow Joe Guidry, Phil Sims, and Greg Boutwell being the chief cooks.  Lisa and I are furnishing the fish, the drinks, and the bread.  You are asked to bring the trimmings and desserts.  It would also be really neat if you would bring a guest or two!

Folks, this is about so much more than the meal.  It is about the fellowship.  I hope you will join us!

TUESDAY, 4/24/12

Paul Leytham, our great friend/supporter in Guatemala has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Surgery is not an option so he is receiving an injection once a quarter and taking a pill daily.  I ask you to join me in praying fervently for Paul.

George Taylor, Bro. Chris’ dad, will be discharged from the hospital today.  He will now be under hospice care.  Pray for Mr. George.

Marie Landiss was very, very low when I visited yesterday morning.  I do not know if she has passed already but ask that you pray for her family.

Tim Knighten’s mother was doing well.  She will most likely be in the hospital for a couple of more days.

Miss Exie Woods returned to the convalescent home on Saturday.  She looked better but still seemed to have some congestion.

Merwyn Gunter is not feeling well.  He remains in the convalescent home too.

Charles Clark’s sister, Virginia, is in an assisted living facility in Ocean Springs, MS.  I got to visit with her yesterday and she is doing good.

My pastor friend, Dr. Jack Bailey, is having shoulder surgery this morning.  He has a spur on his rotator cuff.  He thinks it will sideline him for a day or two.  Others think it may be a week or two.  I do not know but do ask you to pray for Dr. Jack.

The White team will be responsible for our GROW ministry tonight.  That begins at 6:30PM.

It is 5:45AM and the computer says it is 41 degrees in Grand Bay.  It does not feel that cold to me but maybe it is.  I do know it feels good but my garden would beg to differ.

If you want my real opinion on Ron Artest, the NBA should sit him for the rest of the season/playoffs as what he did certainly appeared to be intentional.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 4/23/12

Tim Knighten’s mother got out of surgery around 3:30PM yesterday afternoon.  It was a bit longer than usual surgery because the doctors had to remove a rod from a previous operation.  Tim thanks everyone for their prayers.  I appreciate Bro. Jerry Whitmore going to the hospital to pray with the family.

As far as I know, Bro. Chris’ dad and Miss Exie Woods remain hospitalized.  I will be going to that hospital this morning to check on them.

Marie Landess is a great aunt of Cole Howard.  She is in a local hospital and not expected to live through the week.  Pray for her and her family.

Thank you for giving to two special offerings yesterday – Steve Osborn and Jason Husband.  It was good to have Steve in our second morning service to give us an update on Love The Child.  Jason was extra excited about his birthday offering and hopefully he will be able to purchase his toaster now – LOL!

The Lord blessed and we had a good day in our services.  What a joy to see Monica Morris make a public profession of faith in the second morning service and then to follow Jesus in believers’ baptism last night.

It was also good to see Amy Yelverton join the Friendship family by transfer of letter.  Of course, Amy will marry Joey Switzer (why?) on June 2.  She has been faithful for many months now and we are glad to see her become an “official” part of the Friendship family.

“Potluck with the Pastor” takes place this Wednesday, 4/25, with Blow Joe Guidry, Phil Sims, Greg Boutwell and a cast of thousands frying fish.  Lisa and I will provide the fish (hardhead cats and croakers) and you are asked to bring the trimmings i.e. potato salad, slaw, baked beans plus desserts.  We will provide bread and drinks too.  It all takes place after the morning service.  Join us.

The Penguins and the Canucks have been sent packing – wow!  Many folks thought one of those two teams would win the Stanley Cup this year.  The Bruins & Caps are tied at 3 each.  The Red Wings are toast!

The Lakers made a huge comeback yesterday against the Thunder and had to do it without Ron Artest.  Can a guy not celebrate a dunk without getting ejected?

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 4/22/12

Tim Knighten’s mother fell yesterday and will have partial hip replacement surgery this morning.  I do not have all of the details but do know a rod from a previous surgery will have to be removed.  Pray for Tim’s mother.
