FRIDAY, 4/20/12 UPDATE

I was not planning on writing an entry until Monday morning but Nanette Fontenot is worrying me sick as to why I have given an update on Korie.  So, here it is – Korie did well through the surgery and if she can see with no problems then her life becomes “normal” again i.e. she returns to the softball field.  That is good news and we give God the glory!

Visited with Miss Exie this morning.  She was better to the point of about to be discharged but then had a coughing episode.  The doctor said she will be in the hospital for a few more days.

Bro. Chris’ dad said he was doing “okay” and that was about it.

Talk about awkward – Scott, Nanette, Marie Brooks and I are sitting in the surgery waiting room during Korie’s surgery.  A guy sits two chairs away from me and we strike up conversation.  Either Nanette or Marie tells the guy that I am a preacher/pastor.  Then, out of nowhere, Nanette proceeds to tell him that we used to date.  His response was, “this is a little different” and he kind of did not talk to us any more.  Now, I was so shaken by this turn of events that my recollection could be off on one or two points but this is how I remember it happening.  Wow!

P.S. – Korie is looking for a husband!  Her requirements are pretty tough – he must have a pulse!

FRIDAY, 4/20/12

This entry is late due to the fact that we did not have internet service during the night.  I have promptly filed a complaint with Al’s office!  (Actually, I have asked Dr. Jack Bailey to speak to Al personally on my behalf as they communicate regularly)

Korie Fontenot is set to have surgery at 11:00AM today.  I had an “ah ha” moment last night when it dawned on me that Jason Husband lives very near the hospital where Korie will be having surgery.  I think I will just go get Jason to join me as we sit in the waiting room with Nanette – o my goodness!  LOL!

Miss Exie Woods was not feeling well when I visited her yesterday morning.  However, her daughter, Betty, said the doctors felt once the antibiotics began working she would improve greatly.  I will visit her again today.

Bro. Chris’ dad was admitted to the hospital yesterday.  I plan on seeing him today.

Terry Lucky was doing well following his surgery.  He was thinking that he would go home yesterday once they got the lab work back.  I do not know if that happened.

We are on a regular schedule this Sunday.  The Personnel Committee (Glenn Cooper, Anna Carol Bosarge, Greg Boutwell, Clara Broadus, Andy Hamil) is asked to meet at 5:00PM in my office.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 4/19/12

Xavier Blackwell did great through his surgery.  The doctors corrected everything and said that he would not need any additional surgery.  His dad, Adam, flies back to Germany tomorrow morning.  Xavier will be in the hospital for a few days.

I learned in our church service tonight that Miss Exie Woods has been admitted to a local hospital.  I called the hospital and confirmed that she is a patient.  I do not know the details but do ask that you pray for her.

Korie Fontenot will have surgery tomorrow morning at 11:00AM.  They are going to insert a plate in the bottom of her eye, work on some nerves and tissue, et cetera.  I think her mother, Nanette, may be a little off her rocker as she said they are going in through the roof of Korie’s mouth to correct her eye problems.  (Nanette is not the sharpest crayon in the box which is a part of the reason we did not get married back in the day!)  Nanette wants me to meet her at the hospital at 7:00AM – what’s up with that?

Terry Lucky had foot surgery this week (not sure when) and he will be in the hospital for a few days as they suspect he has an infection.

Barbara Kelley’s niece is in a local hospital too and is a very sick young lady.

Erik Blackwell came back from Birmingham with me yesterday and drove from Evergreen to the house.  I got home around 6:00PM which allowed me to attend the 7:00PM service.  Bro. Robbie did a nice job of sharing the Word.  Honestly, I think some folks stayed away because they did not think the Pastor (position, not person) was going to be there.  It may have been the Spring Break effect but I really feel it was some of both.  I continue to pray for all of us to become more spiritually mature.

The Hatcher girls i.e. Betty Clair and Kayla did not enjoy last night’s service?  Why?  Because I sat with them and they could not text or do Facebook!  LOL!  (They sure are sweethearts though!)

The Penguins have a pulse!  Can they rebound?  Time will tell.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 4/18/12

Xavier Blackwell’s surgery is set for this morning.  I am not sure of the beginning time nor of the duration.  I do know that Xavier has to be at the hospital at 4:45AM.  Pray for Xavier, his family, and the surgical team.

Korie Fontenot has an appointment with an eye doctor today.  Pray as the doctors will possibly decide today whether or not see has to have surgery.

I was able to attend the funeral service for Sandy Hodges’ sister yesterday afternoon.  It was a service where Jesus was exalted.  Pray for the Johnson family.

My sister-in-law’s mother has been placed under hospice care.  Pray for her and the family.

Bro. Robbie will be preaching in the 10:00AM and 7:00PM services today/tonight.

We received a really nice rain yesterday afternoon – praise the Lord!  Our garden enjoyed it immensely!

The Red Wings are ever so close to being eliminated in the NHL playoffs as they are now down 3 – 1 to Nashville.  That wailing you hear from the North is coming from Tim and Ben Mast!

This is how gossip gets started – I thought I heard that my niece, Jamie,  & her partner in crime, Mandy,  had been smoking!  However, turns out they got smoked!  (Girls, winners do not take breaks from training by going on cruises!)

It is 1:00AM as I finish this entry.  I am about to leave for Birmingham.  Pray for traveling mercies for me as I plan on being back in time for the 8:00PM Bible study.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 4/17/12 (UPDATED)

The funeral service for Sandy Hodges’s sister will take place this afternoon at 2:00PM from First Baptist Tillman’s Corner.  Pray for that family.

Bro. Chris’ father was taken to the hospital yesterday morning and then brought back home in the afternoon.  He was severely dehydrated.

Xavier Blackwell is in Birmingham and will have heart surgery tomorrow morning.  Pray for Xavier and the family as they go through this second surgery.

Nanette e-mailed me last night to say that Korie is still having vision problems.  She sees another doctor tomorrow afternoon and then the two doctors will decide a plan of action.  It is “possible” that surgery could be in the works either Thursday or Friday but that is not a certainty at this time.  Pray for Korie!

We are on a regular schedule for tomorrow.  Lord willing, I will be in Birmingham for Xavier’s surgery.  Bro. Robbie Howard will be preaching in the 10:00AM and 7:00PM services.  My plan is to be back in time for the 8:00PM Bible study at the house.  If not, Lisa will lead that study.

Morris Bryant, Kyle Bryant, Ryan Hatcher & Andy Hamil were all missing from our services this past Sunday.  I did not know where they were but now I may have an idea.  Someone stumbled and broke Bama’s championship trophy.  Could it have been one of those four?  (I would blame Ross Hatcher but he was in church both times this past Sunday!)

The Bruins beat the Capitals last night in DC to take a 2-1 lead in their series – condolences to Bro. Jerry Whitmore.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 4/16/12

Bro. Chris Taylor e-mailed me during the night to say that his father, George Taylor, is not doing well physically.  There is a strong possibility they will take him to the hospital this morning.  Pray for Mr. Taylor and the family.

Sandy Hodges’ sister, Karen Johnson, passed away last Friday night.  The visitation will take place from 5:00 – 8:00PM tonight and the service will be tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2:00PM.  The visitation and service will take place from First Baptist Tillman’s Corner.  Pray for the Johnson family.

It was the front end Sunday of Spring Break for the public schools and you never know.  However, God blessed and saw seven folks follow Jesus in believers’ baptism.  Our attendance was good in all of the services.  Thank you Friendship family for being faithful!

The Flyers are up 3-0 on the Pens while the Kings are up 3-0 on the Canucks – are you kidding me?  (I never saw it coming!) The Red Wings lost at home and trail 2-1  in their series against the Predators.   Bama and Auburn both won their respective games this past Saturday so that is a good thing!  The Dodgers are 9-1 on the season!  The Lakers swept the season series with the Mavs.  Life is good!

It is 6:00AM as I write this entry and I am listening to the rain falling.  Praise the Lord!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 4/13/12

The Friendship family is blessed as we presently have no one in the hospital.  That is a good thing and we give God the praise!

However, I do want to note that we have several members who are battling physical afflictions which bring much pain.  Remember to pray for one another.

We are on a regular schedule this Sunday, 4/15.  We will observing the ordinance of baptism in our 10:30AM service and our 6:00PM service.  Those being baptized in the evening service are asked to meet in the office at 5:30PM.

Lisa and the girls made it home last night just in time as I was nearly famished thanks to the uncaring girls in our Sunday School class!  LOL!

Props to Charles Clark for taking care of getting my tiller repaired.  (Can you believe he charged me for taking it to the shop and then picking it up?  Plus, he charged me a fuel surcharge even though the gas prices have fallen ever so slightly in the past couple of days – wow!)  I was able to till over half of my garden late yesterday afternoon.  I have to do some prep work before finishing today as the remaining area is new ground.

True story – I was busily tilling the garden yesterday afternoon.  Where is Soy?  Sitting beside the pool which is probably seventy five feet away playing with a bubble machine!  Having Soy around is like losing three good men!

I do not plan on posting any more entries until Monday, 4/16.  I hope to be joined by many members of the Friendship family for our services.  Lord willing, I will be preaching in the 8:00AM, 10:30AM, and 6:00PM services.  I do not think I am preaching the 2:00PM but will if need be.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 4/12/12

Our Wednesday was good – glory to God!  Our morning service was well attended and they even sat near the front.  We had a pretty good attendance in the evening service but they were Baptist to the bone!  LOL!

Our “Not A Fan” study went well last night too.  I encourage any young adult to consider joining us for this Bible study.  We meet at 8:00PM on Wednesdays.  Lisa & Deidra provide food too and it is always good!

Miss Betty Taylor had surgery yesterday and they think everything was a success.  They will await the pathology report and she will be in the hospital for a few days.

Rusty Suthoff and Caryn Hyatt are engaged!  It happened last Saturday!  I cannot believe “C” finally got up the nerve to ask him!  Rumor has it their wedding date is May 26 but you cannot believe everything you hear/read!

The Flyers beat the Penguins in OT last night in the playoffs – are you serious!  Pitt has the most talented team in the NHL!  The Predators beat the Red Wings?  Wow, that means Tim Mast is officially in mourning today!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 4/11/12

Vance Holifield was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  His enzyme count was some higher than the doctors wanted but they were comfortable enough to send him home.

Little Xavier Blackwell will have surgery one week from today in Birmingham.  Trish explained to me what the doctors will be doing but I would probably get it wrong if I tried to put it in print.  It relates to his heart and I simply ask that you pray for him.

We are on a regular schedule today with the 10:00AM service and the evening activities.  Our 8:00PM group will meet tonight too.

The members of the Finance Committee are asked to remember their meeting tonight at 6:30PM.

I have finished one rotation of hoeing the garden and started the next one.  You ask, “do you not have a tiller?”  Great question!  The answer is “yes” but it is in the shop.  However, I believe in the hoe if you are going to keep a garden clean.

Deidra and Daphne are taking care of my food needs while Lisa is away.  I really expected Amy, Lindsey, Katie, Courtney, Caryn, et cetera to step up to the plate but. . . . .

I have four friends who are Arkansas fans and I really hate what happened to their program.  I am surprised that they fired the coach but do not feel the AD had any other choice.

Mitt Romney versus President Obama for the presidency in November.  Pray and make plans to vote.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 4/10/12

Vance Holifield has a viral infection that has caused his enzymes to be way too high.  As of yesterday afternoon they had come down significantly but still had a little ways to go before he can be discharged from the hospital.

I spoke to Christie Wynn via the phone yesterday.  Sarah continues to have problems with seizures.  Pray for Sarah and pray for Christie.

Nannette Fontenot e-mailed yesterday to say that their appointment with the doctor brought some potentially discouraging news.  Korie is having some vision issues and the doctor does not know if these are related to the swelling or something else.  He put her on medication until next Monday.  If she is still having these same issues, they will do surgery to determine the cause.  The doctor said there is a limited “window” for them to do surgery.  Korie still has sinus issues too but those have been put on the back burner.  Pray that the medications will prove effective!

I worked on Sunday’s attendance figures yesterday and hope to finish today.  It does not appear that we will reach our goal of 1,000 different folks in attendance.  However, I already know of a good number of our folks who simply did not fill out a card so that keeps us from getting an accurate count.  How do I know?  Saw them in a service but did not see a card from them – pretty simple!  If you were present for any of the services, and did not fill out a card please let me know via e-mail by tomorrow.

Lisa, Dana, & Gina are at the beach this week as Faith Academy is on Spring Break.  Somehow I have failed to convince my family that the sun shines in the garden just as effectively as it does by our pool or at the beach!  I spent from 4:30PM until after 7:00PM hoeing corn yesterday afternoon.  My farmer’s tan is just as good as any beach tan and, hopefully, I will be rewarded with a crop.

Do not worry about me being alone this week as Titus is keeping me company at night.  We wrestle and watch the Disney channel before heading off to bed.  Good times!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.
