THURDSDAY, 5/31/12

Can the month of May really be gone?  Wow!  I have to got to start my Christmas shopping!

The Lord blessed us with a good day in our services yesterday/last night.  Our attendance in the auditorium was good for both services.  Thank you for being faithful!

Amazingly, (not really that amazing) I simply forgot to write a letter to the church family yesterday.  It just dawned on me this morning that I did not do so.  Since it is Thursday already, I am going to forego the letter this week.  Sorry about that!

Lewis Jackson did well through his procedure yesterday as did Elizabeth Sessions’ mother.  No real change in any of the other folks we have been listing.  Andrea Timberlake is scheduled to give birth tomorrow.

Rachel Jackson’s father is in the hospital.  Greg Boutwell has pneumonia in both lungs.  Carla Kyser receives another treatment next week.  Pray for these folks!

The Celtics almost got the Heat last night.  I am afraid that series is over – sorry Bill K.!  The Thunder will rebound in their series with the Spurs.  All I can say is, “go Western Conference!”

I am taking a vacation day as I have some things to which I need to attend.  The other staff members are available and I will be close by in the event of an emergency.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/30/12

Happy birthday to my wife, Lisa!  I will not reveal her age but will simply say that she looks way younger than her age.  I married way out of my league!  I could not have done better even though Nanette Fontenot begs to differ!

Lewis Jackson will have some kidney stones blasted this morning.  Pray that goes well.

Elizabeth Sessions’ mother will have surgery this afternoon.  Remember, this is a very serious surgery so please say a special prayer for Miss Catherine.

Visited with Sherry & Gunnar yesterday.  They were taking a walk just trying to pass the time.  I learned something about Sherry that I did not know!

Also visited with Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy Tucker.  Heath did well through this surgery but will be in the hospital for the next five to eight days.

Katie Tillman’s great grandmother is doing better.

The doctor (actually his NP) told dad that the place near is lung is nothing to worry about.  Suspects it is a lymph node.  They will check it in three months when they do a scan.

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight.

Joe David Bailey blogs yesterday and then his Thunder loses last night!  Life is not fair!  At least Ken Freeman is happy!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/29/12

One of the best things going for me right now is that Faith Academy finished their school year last Wednesday.  That means to morning trips to Mobile which means that I can be in the garden at the crack of dawn each day.  (It was after 6:00AM before I got there this morning but it was good to pick okra, peppers, tomatoes, and egg plants)  I do enjoy the whole gardening thing!

It was an uneventful Memorial Day for me as I never left the property.  After finishing in the garden, I changed the blades on my mower and then mowed a little bit of grass before going Eddie Hall/Bobby Stork as I washed my mower.

I called Sherry Howell last night to check on Gunnar.  He is going to be in the hospital for a minimum of two weeks.  Wow!  Chris, Sherry & Gunnar definitely need our prayer support.

I also called Bro. Johnny Tucker to check on his son, Heath, as he will be having surgery this morning.  Pray that all will go well through the surgery.

Sommer Brock sent me an e-mail asking us to pray for Troy’s cousin as it was her four year old son who drowned in Theodore on Sunday night.  Pray for the Skipper family.

Katelyn Tillman sent an e-mail asking us to pray for her great-grandmother, Katy Neilson, as she is in the hospital.  She has several thing wrong with her which is odd since she is 85 years old and does not even take daily medications.

My dad sees the oncologist today.  Hopefully, they can give him some word on the spot that has shown in the past two ultrasounds.

Just because a team retires the number of basically every player to ever play for them does not make them great.  Celtic fans live in the past!  In the past five years the Lakers have won two titles with no other team winning more than one.  I tried to pull for the C’s last night but just could not do it.  Could not pull for the Heat either.  Commissioner Stern should just recognize the Spurs/Thunder series as the championship series and award the trophy to the winner!  The (L)East conference is weak!

Loyola won the men’s NCAA lacrosse championship yesterday as they defeated Maryland 9 – 3.  They finished the year at 18-1 which is remarkable considering they were not even ranked when the season began.

The Finance Committee and the Personnel Committee both have meetings tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 5/27/12

First, my deepest appreciation to the members of the USA armed forces who have given their lives to provide/protect our freedoms.  I am also grateful to all who have served and to those who are presently serving.  Thank God for the members of our armed forces!

Our Sunday was good even though it was a holiday weekend.  The children’s choir did a nice job of presenting the Gospel in song during last night’s service.  Thanks to Tena Hovel and the others who work with our children.

It was a joy to see Jackson Black make a profession of faith and then follow Jesus in believer’s baptism as a part of our 10:30AM worship service.  God gives the increase!

Little Gunnar Howell is back in the hospital.  The doctor called Chris & Sherry late yesterday morning to say they had found another problem and wanted him back for treatment.  Pray for Chris, Sherry & Gunnar.

Parker Vice did not have surgery on Friday.  However, he will have surgery in June.

The church office is closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

Kyle Bryant told me to go with the Spurs in game one.  That man is a sports prophet!  Sorry about that Joe David!  Kyle, please tell me the Celtics and Heat will both lose tonight!  By the way, Bill Kendrick was killing me with that C’s jersey last night!

The NCAA men’s lacrosse finals are today.  Riveting!  (Or something like that!)  I can only hope to get my garden work finished in time to watch!

I think Soy is sick, real sick!  On Saturday he used the weedeater while I was on the riding mower.  That is a first!  I had to show him which end of the weedeater to hold, how to start it, et cetera.  He literally worked for about an hour and then slept all afternoon!  (I lie not!  I will lie about Soy but not in this instance!)

The okra patch calls!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 5/26/12

Chris & Sherry were able to bring Gunnar home but it was last night before he was discharged from the hospital.  The doctor does not want him around people much until everything is well.

Miss JoNell’s cath showed no significant blockages.  Praise the Lord!

I am not sure if Parker had his surgery or not.  I talked to TJ before they saw the doctor but not afterwards.

Mike Parker tells me that Carla is doing okay through the beginning stages of her treatments.

The children’s choir Spring musical is tomorrow night at 6:00PM.  I pray you will join us for that service.

I hope the Michigan vs Bama softball results are simply a foreshadow of what is going to come when the football teams meet on 9/1.

The Bama women’s golf team won the NCAA championship yesterday.  Roll Tide!

The NCAA men’s lacrosse semifinals take place today – I am so excited!  Go Loyola!

The French Open tennis tournament begins in the morning at 5:00AM.  What a weekend!

Gotta go mow our yard.  Was not going to have to mow this weekend until Soy mowed it yesterday while I was at the hospital.  Read between the lines!

I pray your Saturday will be great with Jesus!

FRIDAY, 5/25/12

Peggy Knighten sent me a text during the night saying that Miss JoNell Barnes has been admitted to a local hospital.  The doctors plan on doing a heart cath at some point today.

Parker Vice, TJ & Lindey’s son, will have a minor surgical procedure done today.  Pray that all will go well.

Chris & Sherry Howell breathed a huge sigh of relief yesterday afternoon as the doctors told them Gunnar has a virus in his bone marrow.  The other options were not good so this is good news to Chris & Sherry.  As I understand it, Gunnar will be discharged from the hospital this morning.

Visited with Drew & Andrea Timberlake yesterday morning.  All is well.  The doctors simply wanted to keep Andrea for 23 hours.  Drew & Andrea were literally counting down the hours until they would be discharged from the hospital.

As far as I know, my dad’s procedure went well.  He has an appointment with his oncologist next Tuesday to discuss the spot in question.  My mom is doing well and will have her next balloon and/or stent on June 8.

We have come to the first major holiday of the Summer (even though it is not officially Summer).  I cannot explain it but these weekends tend to challenge “Christians” in their faithfulness to the house of God.  I am all for folks getting away.  However, I am also all for folks who are in town being faithful in their attendance and those who are away finding a place to go to church.  I will let you know next week how we fared this weekend!

Our children’s choir will present their Spring Musical this Sunday evening beginning at 6:00PM.  I challenge you to support this ministry by being present!

The Heat eliminated the Pacers last night.  I suspect Boston wins their next game to set up a Heat/Celtics EC finals.  That will be about like watching high school girls soccer!

Found out yesterday that Joe David Bailey simply does not have what it takes to be a regular blogger.  Am I surprised?  Not really!

I hope that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 5/24/12 (TAKE TWO)

Andrea Timberlake was kept in the hospital overnight for observation.  She was having some contractions.  I will visit later this morning and get an update.

Elizabeth Sessions mother is not having surgery today due to an infection.

The spot my dad has is not in his left kidney but is closer to his diaphragm/left lung.  How could I get that wrong?  (Do not even ask!)

I probably made more errors in my previous entry but these are the only ones I have been informed of up to this point.  (That just means Deidra has not read the blog yet!)

THURSDAY, 5/24/12

Bro. Jerry Whitmore did an excellent job of sharing in our services yesterday.  If you missed it, you missed a blessing.  Good stuff!

Gunnar Howell was supposed to have two tests yesterday which required that he be put to sleep so that meant NPO.  (Gunnar will be one year old next Wednesday)  Sixteen hours later they rescheduled the tests for today at 11:00AM.  So, he had nothing to eat basically all day yesterday and will be in the same boat this morning.  Pray for Gunnar and his parents.

Andrea Timberlake is due to give birth to her first child on June 1.  She was involved in a minor automobile accident yesterday afternoon.  She and the baby are fine as far as I know.  I think she was discharged from the hospital last night.

Elizabeth Sessions mother, Catherine Leach, will have a very serious surgery this afternoon.  Pray for her and the family.

My dad is having two kidney stones blasted (probably not the right word but you get the point) this morning.  He is hopefully going to see his oncologist next week about the spot in his left kidney.

I was really proud of Gina yesterday.  The medical folks said she was the best young patient they had ever worked with.  She was a brave young lady!  (I was going to say “trooper” but that reminds me of AU and I just cannot do that!)  I have to give a shout out to Katelyn Tillman as she made sure we got the red carpet treatment since that is where she works.  I think she must own that place!  She is a sweetheart (cannot believe she is Diane Brinkman’s daughter) and we appreciate her help!  Bro. Chris came for support and that made Gina happy too!

Mark & Tina Mast’s daughter, Miriam, arrived in Turkey yesterday to spend the Summer doing missionary work.  She is a sweetheart and your prayer support is appreciated.

Alisha Vice continues to do well in Uganda.  Pray for her to clearly know God’s direction for her ministry life.

Levi convinced me to watch the final forty seconds or so of the Sixers/Celtics game last night.  Sweet!  (However, I do figure the C’s will win game seven)  A Pacers/Sixers EC finals would suit me just fine!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/23/12

Sherry Howell sent me a text yesterday afternoon telling me that Gunnar was placed back in the hospital.  The doctors cannot determine why he continues to have problems.  More tests will be performed.  Pray for Chris, Sherry, & Gunnar.

Our youngest daughter, Gina, will be having a minor surgical procedure today.  She is very nervous/worried which is her nature.  Pray that all goes well.

Bill & Debbie’s grandson, Josh, has allergies.  Now the doctors just have to determine exactly what he is allergic to.

Caroline Ford was much better yesterday.  My dad sees a specialist today.

We are on a regular schedule today with the morning service and the evening services/classes.  The menu for the 8:00PM Bible study is poppy seed chicken (Sam will arrive early tonight!).

Congratulations to the members of the Class of 2012!  Those graduating from Bryant High will walk tonight beginning at 6:30PM.

The team in Guatemala returns home today.  They will be replaced by a team from the Memphis, TN area tomorrow.  (Why do we allow folks from TN use the mission house?  LOL!  They are some of the finest folks I know!)  Pray for traveling mercies for both of these teams.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/22/12

I forgot to post that Mac McGriff’s sister, Linda, was discharged from the hospital and is doing great.  What an answer to prayer!

Elizabeth Sessions’ mother, Miss Catherine Leach, will have a very serious surgery on Thursday afternoon.  She had a procedure last week and her blood pressure bottomed out three times.

Caroline Ford sees another doctor tomorrow.  She continues to have some ongoing health issues.  Pray that this doctor will be able to find the cause of these problems.

There is a medical team using the mission house in Guatemala this week.  They actually leave tomorrow.  A piece of very expensive medical equipment they took with them has disappeared.  (It was taken in one of the villages and not from the mission house)  Pray that it can be found before they leave.

I know that some of you folks got rain yesterday afternoon.  I watched it build in the North and then move to the East.  Those living at 12521 Longview got zero rain.  However, because of Soy’s ingenuity, I have two sprinklers in the garden that keep it watered.  (He stole Wes Garrison’s concept – hope it did not have a patent)  I am using water from Charles’ well and he is only charging slightly less than GBWWB does – what a great guy!  I will have to give you the “rest of the story” regarding Soy and the garden in another post.  Unbelievable!

The NBA playoffs are done!  The Lakers were obviously ripped off as the Thunder and the refs beat them again last night.  Honestly, I have not watched three minutes of the playoffs up to this point and will probably not watch that much from this point forward.

This entry is too long.  Sorry!  Hope you have a great Tuesday with Jesus.
