SATURDAY, 6/16/12

Bro. Jerry told me in an e-mail night before last that Barbara Kelley was scheduled to be discharged from the hospital either yesterday or today.  I am not sure of her status at this point but I do ask that you keep praying for her.

Clara told me that Chris & Sherry are in hopes that Gunnar will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.

Lisa’s mother, Ann, did well through her surgical procedure on Thursday and came home from the hospital yesterday around noon.  The doctor called with a report and it was excellent so we give God thanks!

My dad did well with having his kidney stones blasted on Thursday.  They did one kidney a couple of weeks ago and the other one this time.

Bro. Johnny Tucker will be our guest in all three services tomorrow.  I encourage the members of the Friendship family to be faithful in their attendance.  Manolo Padilla will be preaching in our Spanish service.  Pray for all of our services.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 6/14/12

Barbara Kelley remains hospitalized and is undergoing a series of tests.  She was originally scheduled to be discharged today but that is not going to happen.  Keep praying for her.

As far as I know, no significant change in Gunnar Howell’s situation.  Keep praying there too!

My mother-in-law, Ann, will have a surgical procedure at some point this morning.  She will be in the hospital overnight.

My dad is supposed to have another kidney stone blasted today (I think).

Caroline Ford, Jordan Lowell, Dana, Gina and I all arrived in Guatemala safely yesterday around noon.  John King graciously came to the airport to get the ladies while Dr. Tico and I headed to the lawyer’s office.  Talk about fun – sitting in the lawyer’s office for about two or two and one half hours waiting and then having Dr. Tico read/translate documents to you.  A quick stop at Pricesmart for some supplies and then we finally got to the mission house.  The ladies and I went to Pollo Campero (sorry Rita) for supper and then did grocery shopping for the team at Maxi Dispensa.

Ryan Johnston, Missions Pastor, from Faith Baptist of Bartlett, TN was here so I got to spend some time with him last night.  He led a team from Union City, TN.  They have had a good week and left early this morning heading home.

Our team led by Bro. Chris (Mobile) and Pastor Keith Martin (Birmingham) left this morning and should arrive at the Guatemala airport around 1:30PM.  Another team from Michigan led by Dr. Mark Stid left Chicago this morning and will arrive at 11:30AM.  We will be joined by three pastors from El Salvador later this weekend.  So, our team will consist of 64 folks on the highest days (the MI folks will do some work separate from us as we can only take Yankees for so long!)

JD, praying for your VBS emphasis today!

If my wife, Lisa, had a saying about diets this would be it:  “Diets are hard – today I had cupcakes without sprinkles.” (Taken from a website by Pastor Tim)

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 6/13/12

Barbara Kelley was doing well yesterday morning when I visited with her.  However, she experienced numbness in her arm and they are doing tests to determine the cause.

Gunnar Howell is no better.  I sense Chris & Sherry are getting frustrated with the whole situation.  Pray for them to have wisdom regarding this situation.

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight.

I am leaving early this morning headed to Guatemala.  I was going for three reasons – Lisa, the girls, and I were going to enjoy a “down” day; to get things ready i.e. buy supplies, groceries, et cetera for our team which arrives tomorrow; to spend one evening with the fine folks from Faith of Bartlett, TN.  Lisa is not going so it is down to the last two reasons.

A fourth reason was added once I purchased my ticket.  I will be meeting with our lawyer today.  Fun, fun, fun!

Bro. Chris Taylor will lead the team to Guatemala tomorrow.  Pray that we will have a productive week.  You can follow us on the GRACE blog.

A few folks have asked about our garden and the rain.  It is all good!  As a matter of fact, the green beans, peas, and corn have all been removed.  I have to give a huge shout out to Soy & Deidra for helping me yesterday afternoon as we finished up with the peas.  What a hot, dirty job!  The only thing left now is okra and peppers.  God blessed us with a good crop and we are thankful to Him.

Game one of the NBA Finals is history and I have now watched zero seconds of it!  I do know that OKC won which is good!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 6/12/12

Barbara Kelley did well through her surgery.  She will be in the hospital for a few days before coming home.

Bill Kendrick’s sister-in-law had surgery yesterday morning and did well.  However, some complications arose last night and she had to be taken back to the hospital.

Gunnar Howell remains hospitalized and will do so for several more days.

Bro. Chris, Robert Waldrop and Logan Wainwright got the wiring done in the new office suite yesterday.  That was a hot job and I appreciate them doing it as we are making progress in relocating the offices.

My dad will have another kidney stone blasted this Thursday.  My mother-in-law has her surgical procedure this Thursday as well.  My mama is doing good.

Heat vs OKC tonight – does anyone really care?  I would rather watch Joe David Bailey play Dr. Michael Mason one on one!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus!

MONDAY, 6/11/12 (SECOND POST)

It is now a little after 7:00AM and they have just taken Barbara back to the surgery area so it appears the surgery will begin around 7:30AM.

I do not have an update on Gunnar but have sent Sherry a message so I should have an update tomorrow.

What a “different” Sunday!  Obviously, it very, very rare for us to cancel a service but that was the case for last night’s service.  The continual rains, the less than favorable road conditions, et cetera made it a wise choice to cancel the service.  I appreciate Bro. Jerry, Bro. Benny, Bro. Chris and the deacons for making that call in my absence.  I fully support their decision.

The old saying says something about “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” or something like that.  I do not know about the rats but my plans definitely went awry yesterday.  Lisa and I flew to Grand Rapids, MI on Friday, attended a wedding rehearsal that afternoon (I was the officiant, Lisa was the coordinator), went to the wedding on Saturday afternoon, and left GRR early on Sunday morning arriving in ATL on time.  So far, so good.  We boarded the plane for Mobile and were literally on the runway taking off when the captain pulled up saying the Mobile airport was closed.  Plan going awry!  If everything went as planned, I would be home in time to preach the 10:30AM service after Edwin Williams had preached the 8:00AM service.  Plan completely awry now as we had to rebook our flight to Gulfport.  We spent eight hours in the Atlanta airport.  Charles & Ann graciously (he only charged me $75) picked us up in GPT as our car was at the Mobile airport.  We arrived home safe & sound late yesterday afternoon.  What a great vacation day!

My good pastor friend, Dr. Jack Bailey, loves rain.  The more, the better.  I have invited him to Grand Bay and the surrounding areas.  He would be in hog heaven!

I pray that you will have a good Monday with Jesus!  Stay dry!

MONDAY, 6/11/12

Barbara Kelley will be having knee replacement surgery this morning.  She is scheduled for a 7:30AM or so start time.  Pray that everything goes well.  Speaking of that, Bro. Kerry will be on vacation all week.  Please respect his time off and contact the church office if you need anything.

Disclaimer – I had a full post ready to go when the power blinked and it was all lost!  Thanks Sam!  I will post again at some point today.  Sorry about that!

SATURDAY, 6/9/12

Jerry Whitmore was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  I knew that he was going to go home as soon as the doctor gave the slightest indication it was okay.

Betty Carol Neal had a surgical procedure performed on her wound yesterday and the doctor was pleased with the results.  They will treat it aggressively for the next two weeks and then go from there.

My mama ended up having two stents placed in her arteries yesterday.  They were placed in a forked area and the doctor said this would cause a little pain initially but she would be much better in the long run.

Our 2012 VBS is over with the exception of “Family Night” which takes place tomorrow beginning at 5:00PM.  (Note the early starting time)  I thank God for our VBS workers!

Is it possible for both teams to lose tonight in the EC Finals of the NBA?  That would be sweet!  LOL!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 6/8/12

Jerry Whitmore had surgery yesterday afternoon as they removed his gall bladder.  The surgeon said everything went well and he expected Jerry would be discharged today.  I want to give a shout out to Sonny Bates for actually beating me to the hospital yesterday afternoon (I was on the VBS bus when the call came (stopped to answer) and then had to get a shower and change clothes before I could go the hospital).  Sonny was there with Miss Gloria and then stayed after the surgery was finished.  I appreciate his ministry.

Attempted to visit with Betty Carol Neal early yesterday morning but she was asleep.  She had blockages in her leg which they corrected.  Today they will put her to sleep and will work on her wound.  The next two weeks will see very aggressive wound care as they try to fend off possible amputation.  Pray the wound care works!

Visited with Ted Ezell.  He was doing good.  Not sure if he was discharged or not.  It was possible he was going to a rehab for a few days.

Visited with Sherry & Gunnar.  One doctor was talking of another week in the hospital.  It seems they are continually finding something else wrong.

Marisa told me that Carla had a treatment on Wednesday and was not feeling so great yesterday.

Mike Parker e-mailed to say that this second round of chemo is giving his wife, Carla, fits.

My mama is scheduled to receive another stent in her heart today.  She will spend tonight in the hospital.

Today is the final day of VBS.  That “noise” you will hear around noon will be the workers celebrating!

I did not watch any of it but see where the Heat was on in the New England area last night!  Bill, what is up with your boys?  Please do not tell me they are going to choke this one away!

We are on a regular schedule for this Sunday with one exception – our evening service will begin at 5:00PM as we will have VBS Family Night.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 6/7/12

Ted Ezell’s surgery was a success according to the doctor.  What all does that mean?  Not sure.  The actual surgery was not long but it took basically all day to get it done.  I left the house at 7:30AM and got home a little after 5:00PM.  Ted is such a fine man an I am proud to call him a member of the Friendship family.

Jerry Whitmore was taken to the hospital yesterday with what was thought to be a heart issue but it appears to be gall bladder related.  He remains in the hospital and they will do some more tests this morning.

Gunnar had an elevated temperature night before last but seemed to be doing well when I visited yesterday.  I do not know if that changes his projected discharge scheduled for this Sunday.

Kevin Vice’s sister, Betty Carol, was admitted to the hospital yesterday.

Carla Kyser was supposed to receive another treatment this week.  If so, that usually happens on a Wednesday or Thursday.  I will get an update from Marisa.

Lisa’s mother, Ann, will have a surgical procedure on 6/14.  If all goes as planned, she will spend one night in the hospital.

I was not at VBS yesterday and really do not have a report.  I will go by the “no news is good news” scenario.

Was yesterday/last night as weird for you as it was for me?  I am totally not used to not having the Wednesday services.  However, I hope it was good for our VBS workers.  We shall see.

It was “Thundering” last night as darkness fell and it was obviously “Thundering” in OKC too!  The Spurs are toast having lost four in a row.  Ken Freeman is not happy!  Levi is elated as is Joe David!

I did not watch one pitch of the softball game last night but am happy to report that Bama won the national championship which is their fourth for this academic year.  (Okay, so three were in women’s sports but they count too!)

It is 2:45AM so I cannot go to the garden yet.  I do thank the Lord for the rain of yesterday afternoon.  For me today it is VBS bus, hospitals, VBS bus, hospitals.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.
