FRIDAY, 2/1/13

Friday (actually Thursday night) greetings from Guatemala.  The internet service has been spotty at best tonight and I did not want to risk not having it tomorrow morning.

I have posted the arrangements for Merwyn Gunter’s visitation and service on a separate post.  Pray for the family.

Speaking of Merwyn, one of his two remaining brothers, Bill, had heart surgery and had a bleed afterwards.  That is all I know but do ask that you pray for him.

Shawn Burwell did good through his surgery.

Bro. Robbie has been diagnosed with a disease of the lung.  I will not go into details but there are no medicines to treat/cure it.  Pray for him.

How about some good news even if it is scary!  Chris & Courtney Cavin are going to be parents for the first time at some point in September!  What is scary about that?  Courtney, mother?  LOL!  She will be an awesome mother!  Folks, if you want to have children, just attend our Sunday School class!  We have four or five girls “with child” right now and Bo has not even announced her pregnancy yet!

Lord willing, I will return home Saturday and will be in the pulpit for all three services on Sunday.  I have sent a message to the deacons talking about the evening service.  We are going to have one but I am not sure if we will change the time.  Check back Friday night and/or Saturday morning for the final word.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 1/31/13

Please keep praying for Merwyn’s family in this time of sorrow.  I believe that Merwyn was 91 years of age which made him our second oldest male member (I think).  Merwyn was a faithful member of the Friendship family in these latter years of his life.  It was my privilege to visit with him on basically a weekly basis during his time in the convalescent home.

Shawn Burwell (I hope I have that spelled correctly) will have eye surgery this morning.  He will be receiving a replacement eye

Robin Harris went home from the hospital yesterday.  Miss Gracie Lee was sent home under hospice care.  Kevin Woods remains basically the same.

Carla Kyser meets with the doctor tomorrow.  Dawn Baria’s vital signs surprised the hospice nurse this week.

We had a good Wednesday.  The 10:00AM and 8:00PM attendances were very good.  The Spirit in all of the services was excellent.

The Friendship family will be hosting Pastor Joe David Bailey and the student ministry from Danville Baptist Church for a mission trip the dates of July 13 – 20.  More details to come.

I saw Fred & Margie Blair in the Lighthouse on Tuesday.  They looked well and are living in the Northwest area of Mobile County.  Margie told me that she is a blog reader.  That puts us at 8 readers now – praise the Lord!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus!

MERWYN GUNTER PASSES FROM THIS LIFE

Just received a message from Hilda Gunter via Andy Hamil that Merwyn Gunter has passed from this life.  It is just before 10:30PM.  Merwyn’s son, Russell, is in route to Mobile at this time.  Pray for him as he drives these final few hours and then makes the arrangements for the funeral.  I will post those arrangements once they are completed.

WEDNESDAY, 1/30/13

Merwyn Gunter is not doing well.  He shared with me yesterday about his situation.  Hilda called the church later in the day to say that the doctor spoken to Merwyn’s son, Russell, and he is on his way to Mobile today.

Kevin Woods was doing okay.  You can tell that he wants to get out of that bed so badly!

Robin Harris was gone for tests when I visited.

Miss Gracie Lee, Karen Walker’s mother, remains in ICU.

Shawn Burrell will have eye surgery tomorrow in Biloxi, MS.

Myrtle opened the polls yesterday and hired about eight other folks to work with her and there were only two (2) folks eligible to vote?  Come on, Myrtle!  Sam Schjott is supposed to be some big time political person and he does not even know where District 35 begins and 34 ends.  I will never ask Sam another political question unless I have one!

My passport did not come as expected yesterday.  However, I have it in hand.  What?  The Grand Bay postmistress, Kathy Grimes, graciously tracked it down and then drove to Mobile to get it and hand delivered it to Lisa’s office.  Is that going beyond the call of duty or what?  Why did she do that you ask?  Suffice it to say that I know a lot of stuff!  LOL!  Actually she did it simply because she is a good friend who just wanted to help.

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight.  I hope to be joined by many members of the Friendship family.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 1/29/13

Bro. Kerry visited Merwyn Gunter, Robin Harris Seabrook, Kevin Woods and Gracie Lee in the hospitals yesterday.  He said Merwyn looked better, Kevin was doing good, and Miss Gracie remains in ICU.  I talked to Nikki, Robin’s mother, last night and they delayed her testing until today.  She is really having some problems.

Shawn Burrell, Nikki’s husband, will have eye surgery this Thursday.

Thomas Todd-Faucette hurt his arm this past Saturday playing Upward basketball and is in a sling.

Carla Kyser sees a doctor this Friday.  Dawn Baria continues to need our prayers as she battles cancer.  Brenda Timberlake told me that her sister, Lisa, is doing okay but they do not have another scan scheduled until April.  Ronnie Glass continues in his battle against cancer.  Linda Green’s son-in-law has returned to work but is receiving treatments for his leukemia.  Victoria Collier remains hospitalized.

My passport did not arrive yesterday.  I would blame Kathy at the Grand Bay post office but she has been way too kind to me over the years so I cannot do that.  Maybe today?

Folks, I think that I may be really sick and do not know it!  A couple of weeks ago, Soy washed my vehicle.  Yesterday, Charles serviced and washed my Gator.  Lisa has been trying to get me to purchase more life insurance.  Joe David Bailey called yesterday just to talk and he never calls.  Another guy from Hartselle called and offered to help my family there in the event I was not able to do so.  (very kind offer by the way)  Dr. Jack Bailey sent me two e-mails in the same day which equals the number he has sent me in the past year.  Titus is spending the night with us.  Do they all know something that I do not?  I am starting to not feel so well!  I am nervous!  It is 2:30AM.  I think I will take two aspirin and go to bed.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 1/28/13

We enjoyed a wonderful day in our services yesterday.  God is good!  Of course our day was topped of by seeing Palmer Lavelle follow the Lord in believers baptism.  God gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

Alisha did a nice job of sharing about the ministry God has given her in Uganda.  You did well in attending all three of those services.  You also did well in supporting her through the love offering.  I do not know the total but Larry told me it was a very good offering.  I will share the total in my letter this week.

Sam’s Superburger in Grand Bay (both locations) has made the decision to no longer be open on Sundays.  That has been in effect since 1/1/13.  I applaud the owner for this stand as he has stated that he wanted to give his employees the opportunity to attend church.  Now it is time for the church(es) to support this decision by doing business with Sam’s Monday – Saturday.  My family and I have been doing so this month and I ask you to join us.

Edwin Williams preached for Bro. Robbie yesterday and I appreciate his willingness to help.  Jim Chinners did the same two Sundays ago.  Thank you brothers!

I am going to enjoy a fresh tomato sandwich at some point today.  Garden fresh!  All of this is possible because Jimmy Tagert gave me ripe tomatoes and green tomatoes last night.  Deidra and Daphne were pumped about getting those green tomatoes.  They can have those as I will enjoy the ripe ones!  Thanks to Jimmy, Charles Grant and the others who raise these tomatoes during the “winter” months.

Speaking of winter, Charles plowed my garden spot this past Saturday.  My goal is to plant my garden as early or earlier than Wes Garrison!  Our winter will consist of temps in the 70’s for the next three days and then it drops to a blustery high 60’s for about a week.  Folks, I do not complain about the weather but I do enjoy cold temperatures during January/February.

Praying that my passport arrives today.  Friday was too easy.  My appointment was at 8:00AM and I was on the road at 8:20AM.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 1/25/13

Mark & Alisha Vice arrived in Mobile safely at 4:30PM yesterday.  I decided to “crash” the party as I was going to be in Mobile.  Alisha looked well and is doing well.  Mark?  Still Mark – LOL!  Thank God for their safe travels!

Bro. Jerry visited Kevin Woods, Merwyn Gunter (gone for a test), Robin Harris (Nikki Burrell’s daughter), and Miss Gracie Lee yesterday.  Kevin is doing good in his recovery.  Miss Gracie remains in ICU.  Robin was having a bad day emotionally.

I get the joy of driving to New Orleans this morning to renew my passport.  I pray that it is an uneventful trip.

Alisha will be our guest speaker this Sunday morning in both services and we will receive a special offering for her ministry.  Come prayed up and prepared to give as God leads.

Dale & Karla remain in the Midwest doing ministry.  Keep praying for them.

Teddy Ray & Rachel’s daughter and family continue to settle in to their new place of ministry.  Keep praying for them as well.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 1/24/13

Visited with Merwyn Gunter yesterday but he was fast asleep.  In my opinion, Merwyn does not look good.  He certainly needs our prayers.

Maxine Dupont’s great grandson was admitted to the hospital on Monday night.

Karen Walker’s mother is in ICU in a local hospital.  I do not know the details but ask that you pray.

Marisa e-mailed to say that Carla met with a cancer orthopedic doctor yesterday.  She also has sores in her mouth but they are not bad enough to stop her treatments.  Pray for Carla.

Dawn Baria continues in her battle against cancer as well.

Linda Green’s step-granddaughter is showing some signs that her body is possibly rejecting the heart she received a little over a week ago.

We had a really good day/night in our services yesterday.  Great Spirit and really good attendance.  We give God the glory!  By the say, Davy Bosarge and Soy are doing an excellent job with the college students.

It is 6:30AM and Rita Vice is already at the airport waiting on the 4:30PM flight to land!  Are you serious?  No, but not far off!  Pray that Alisha and Mark will have safe flights today.

Duke got beat by 27?  Sorry about that Zach Huhn!  (Actually I am not sorry as I am not a Duke basketball fan!)

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 1/23/13

The funeral service for Betty Carol Neal was one that honored God.  Pastor Rodney Coleman did a wonderful job in sharing about Betty and in sharing the Gospel.  Thank you to each person who cooked, served, set up, and cleaned up for the meal.  Once again, you did an outstanding job!

The Jason Chesney family also expressed appreciation for the way the Friendship family has ministered to them over the past few days.  I pray that the words spoken during that service had an impact spiritually on all those in attendance at the funeral.

Visited the convalescent home yesterday morning only to find out that Merwyn Gunter has been admitted to the hospital.  Bro. Kerry went to visit him yesterday afternoon but I have not talked to Bro. Kerry since his visit to get a report.

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight.  I pray that many members of the Friendship family will join us for these classes/Bible studies/services.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
