WEDNESDAY, 7/31/13

Wow, did July fly by or what!  Did we even stop and celebrate the 4th?

Visited Milinda Spiller yesterday morning.  She continues to live with her Uncle Bobby & Aunt Helen.  Miss Helen is doing such a good job of taking care of Milinda.  Milinda’s cancer has spread.  She is receiving some pretty strong dosages of morphine.  She has lost a lot of weight.  She is still up and going but does not look well.  It is very possible that she will no longer be able to attend the church services at the Grand Bay Church of God.  Miss Helen looks tired to me.  Pray for Milinda & her Aunt Helen.

The following is the list of leaders I have for the “pack a pew” emphasis set for next Monday night, 8/5:

You think we need revival?  You are encouraging Bro. Jack by sending him those e-mails.  Thank you for copying me on them.  Thank you to those who have forwarded his reply from him to me.  Will you stop right now and send an e-mail to Bro. Jack at jack@danvillebaptist.org.  It does not have to be long.  Just let him know you are praying.  I have sent him a couple.  I ask the staff, deacons, and other leaders to join me in this effort.  Prayer is the key!

Looking for some folks willing to serve on the Missions Committee.  The one, absolute requirement is that you have to be involved in at least one team mission trip to Guatemala each year of your service.  Interested?  Contact me.  No promises.

The men’s breakfast on Saturday will be served in the CAB, I think.  Regardless, it begins at 8:00AM.

We are on a regular schedule this morning/tonight.  The menu for the 7:30PM Bible study is poppy seed chicken with the trimmings.

Soy & I now have five daughters!  Maria Wainwright sold “us” (who do you think paid?) five chickens late yesterday afternoon.  They are spending their first night in “Hotel Soy” just below our house.  They have not laid the first egg yet!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 7/30/13

Miss Kathleen Henderson was discharged from the hospital and is, obviously, doing better.

Visited with the folks in the convalescent home yesterday.  Everyone seemed to be doing okay.

Revival services begin this Sunday morning at 8:00AM.  A few members of the Friendship family have copied me on e-mails they have sent to Pastor Jack Bailey – thank you.  I hope that others will send him words of prayer support.  Still looking for “leaders” to “pack a pew” on Monday night, 8/5.  Let me know.  Pray for revival!

Pray for the Nominating Committee as they will bring their initial report to the church family tomorrow.  There are a number of openings especially when it comes to Discipleship Training and our children’s department.  Folks, if we do not have some people step up then I am not really sure what the end result will be.  Pray and respond in obedience.

The men’s breakfast takes place this Saturday, 8/3, beginning at 8:00AM in the fellowship hall.  All men are invited to attend.

We will use the month of August to allow the members of the Friendship family to sign up for the Summer of 2014 GRACE Ministries trips.  A non-refundable deposit of $200 is going to be required of each person who signs up.  After August, the trips will fill with folks outside the Friendship family.  There will most likely be a date change on one or two of the trips and we will announce those soon.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 7/29/13

Revive us again!  That is my prayer!  I am praying for God to send a revival to me personally and to us collectively as a church family.  I ask you to pray for Pastor Jack Bailey as he prepares this week to share the Word with us.  I am also asking you to contact him either via e-mail (jack@danvillebaptist.org) or via card/letter at P.O. Box 70 Danville, AL 35619 to let him know of your prayer support.  If you send an e-mail, please copy me on it.  Thanks!  Pray without ceasing!

I need 27 folks who are willing to be a “pack a pew” leader for next Monday night’s 6:30PM service.  I need those folks in place by this Wednesday, 7/31.  You will be assigned a pew(s) and asked to invite folks to “pack” it for the service.  This basically means you will get at least 12 folks to join you for the service.  Let me know via e-mail if you will serve as a leader.

What a blessed Sunday we enjoyed yesterday!  The Spirit was very good in the morning services and it was good to see numbers of folks at the altar.  Last night’s service with Pastor Lance Nicholson and the folks from South City Church was refreshing.  Thank you for being faithful in your attendance!  You gave $1,228 in the offering.  We baptized three folks and South City baptized one.  We give God the glory for giving the increase.

Sonny Bates, Jim Chinners, and Raymond Wilkinson were elected to serve as deacons.  These are good men as are the other five nominees.  Pray for all of our deacons – Sonny Bates, Herbert Benefield, Jim Chinners, Bill Kendrick, John Milton Ladnier, Kenny Lingle, Carl Ray Moulds, Max Peacock and Raymond Wilkinson.  (Rob Nevin, Bernard Suthoff, and Larry Whitehurst rotate off 7/31)

As far as I know, Miss Kathleen Henderson remains hospitalized.  I will be checking on her this morning.

Lord willing, Lisa and I will be attending the funeral service for Martha Nell Floore today.  She and her family have been friends to us for many years.  Pray for the Floore family.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

DEACON ELECTION RESULTS

The following three men were elected to serve as deacons within the Friendship family from August 1, 2013, through July 31, 2016:  (in alphabetical order) Sonny Bates, Jim Chinners, and Raymond Wilkinson.

I appreciate all eight men who allowed their name to be nominated.  As pastor, I would have been content with any of those men serving as deacons.

SUNDAY, 7/28/13

Regular schedule today/tonight.  Pastor Lance Nicholson and his church family, South City Church, will be our guests in the 6:00PM service.  Pastor Lance will preach after his folks have led the musical worship.  Baptism will be a part of that service.

We will elect three men to serve as deacons during the 6:00PM service.

A wedding shower for Gauge & Mary (Cole) Holmes takes place this afternoon in the fellowship hall.  Mary is the daughter of Danny & Liz Cole.

The bus/children’s ministry will sponsor a meal and a water slide immediately following the 10:30AM service.  All children, 5 years of age through 5th grade, and parents/grandparents are invited to attend.  (Obviously, they have to attend the church service first!)

I need revival!  Do you?  Pastor Jack Bailey will be our guest revivalist beginning next Sunday morning, 8/4, and will preach in services through Wednesday night, 8/7.  Pray without ceasing.

I look forward to seeing many members of the Friendship family in our services today/tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 7/27/13, SECOND ENTRY

There will be a wedding shower for Gauge & Mary (Cole) Holmes tomorrow afternoon, 7/28, in the fellowship hall.  Ladies, please remember this and, if possible, attend.  Mary is the daughter of Danny & Liz Cole.

Received word this morning that Miss Martha Nell Floore passed away in the early hours of today.  Martha Nell was a very faithful member of 1s Baptist Grand Bay.  Her daughter, Kathy, is the postmistress in the Grand Bay Post Office.  Her son, Robert, is a member of the Friendship family.

SATURDAY, 7/27/13

I missed posting an entry yesterday.  I apologize.

Attended the funeral service for Rachel Jackson’s uncle yesterday afternoon.  The chapel at Serenity was almost completely filled at the start of the service.

Visited with Miss Kathleen Henderson who was admitted to the hospital on Thursday night.  She continues to have difficulty breathing.

Spoke to Bro. Kerry via the phone and he said Barbara did well through her surgery and had a good day yesterday.  He has a lingering cough that he cannot seemingly shake.

Bro. Benny and the children’s ministry will host a fun day for the children tomorrow after the 10:30AM service.  This includes hamburgers and hotdogs which will be served immediately after the service.  A waterslide will be in use until around 1:30PM.  All children ages 5 – 5th grade are invited to stay and take part in these activities.  Parents/grandparents are invited too.

Pastor Lance Nicholson and his congregation will join us for our 6:00PM service tomorrow night.  They will lead the musical worship and Pastor Lance will preach.

We will observe the ordinance of baptism as a part of the evening service.  Candidates should bring a towel and a change of clothes.

We will elect three men during the evening service tomorrow night to serve as deacons for the next three years.  The names have been adequately published for your consideration.  Make this a matter of prayer and then do as the Lord leads.

Yesterday morning was spent working in the yard.  Soy gave me a nice assist.  Today will see me doing more of the same.  Folks, it is much hotter here than it was in Guatemala!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 7/25/13

Barbara Kelley is having surgery today.  Pray for her.

Rachel Jackson had an uncle to pass away.  The visitation with the family takes place tomorrow from noon until the 2:00PM service time.  Everything will be at Serenity Funeral Home.

Teddy Jackson’s mother and brother are both having procedures today.  Pray for them.

We will elect three men to serve as deacons this Sunday evening.  Make this a matter of prayer.

We will observe the ordinance of baptism this Sunday evening.  Candidates should meet with Bro. Jerry at 5:30PM.

Pastor Lance Nicholson and his church, South City, will lead our evening service this Sunday.  Please make plans to attend.

Bro. Kerry Kelley led the music in yesterday morning’s service.

The team has left Guatemala.  Pray for their safety in travel.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 7/24/13

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight with one exception.  There will be no college/young adults Bible study at 7:30PM due to many of those regulars being in Guatemala.  I am counting on “C” to help get that word out to the folks who usually attend.

I have not gotten an update on Baby Abigail but do know she remains hospitalized.  Otherwise, I do not think we have anyone from the Friendship family in the hospital.  Certainly, we have those who are battling cancer and we want to continue to pray for them.

Barbara Kelley is scheduled to have surgery in the morning.  Pray that all goes well.

Ladies, please remember the wedding shower for Gauge & Mary Cole Holmes this Sunday afternoon, 7/28.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
