SATURDAY, 11/29/14

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 6:1-28 2 Peter 3:1-18 Psalm 119:129-152 Proverbs 28:21-22

Landon Joyner was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  He will be seeing doctors over the next few days to get test results and to map out a course of action.

Amy Huhn’s mother, Gloria Morrison, is in the hospital because of pneumonia.  Of course, Miss Gloria is battling cancer too so we need to pray this pneumonia is not too severe.

Levi Westbrook was taken off the ventilator yesterday.  A MRI will be done at some point on his leg to determine if more surgery is required.

I do not have an update on Clara’s sister, Faye, but do ask that you keep praying for her.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  That will be true tomorrow and next Sunday, 12/7, as well.  I realize that we have folks out of town but my hope is that those of us in town will be faithful tomorrow to the services, Sunday School and Discipleship Training.

My Friday was a really good day.  I spent an hour or so cutting grass.  Gina, Soy, Rusty and I then headed to Saraland to meet Adam, Grayson & Jace Glenn to go with us to the Navy vs USA game.  Folks, it was an absolutely beautiful day to attend a football game and I have to be honest in saying that David & Kim, along with David’s family, treated us royally!  They provided a parking pass that put us right next to the stadium.  They had a massive spread for lunch!  Dale & Karla Bosarge had been invited too – it was good to see Karla!  The game was exciting even though South lost.  I am giving David and Kim an A+ for their hospitality!

Today, Brad, Soy, Dana, Gina and I are heading to Tuscaloosa for the game.  Lord willing, we will arrive home early in the morning but I will not be driving so I will be ready to preach at 8:00AM.  (I would be ready if I was driving but this will help me get some rest)

Our focus over the next four Sundays will be “Christmas Is. . .”  as we celebrate the greatest season of the year.  Come join us!

I pray that your Saturday with Jesus will be great!

FRIDAY, 11/28/14

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 5:1-31 2 Peter 2:1-22 Psalm 119:113-128 Proverbs 28:19-20

Visited with Landon Joyner yesterday morning.  As far as I know, he remains hospitalized.  He has been a really good patient up to this point but was quickly growing weary of the needles, nurses, doctors, et cetera.  Very understandable for a five year old.  Pray for Landon!

I do not do social media but I am told that two or three women from the Friendship family announced their pregnancy via SM yesterday.  Was Claire Bell in that number?  (I was thinking they were keeping it a secret for a while longer)  Amy Reynolds?  Lindsey Vice?  Kayla Hatcher?  (I surely hope neither of our girls were in that number!)  Congratulations to those announcing these new additions!

Thanksgiving Day was peaceful around the Turrentine house.  I did some mowing early, made the hospital visit, enjoyed lunch with the family (my mother-in-law makes the absolute best dressing), did some more mowing and then watched the last bit of the Eagles vs Cowboys and all of the LSU vs TAMU game.

Meanwhile, the females around this place hit Walmart in the early evening and then left at midnight headed to the outlets – crazy, absolutely crazy!  I guess whatever cranks your tractor!

Yes, today is the day!  Navy versus USA at 2:00PM in Ladd Stadium.  Tailgating with Kim French beforehand (if I take the needed supplies)!  The only downer to the day is that Soy found out about it and is now going to join us!  I am probably going to have such an exhilarating time that I will not even want to attend the “other” game in Tuscaloosa tomorrow.

Remember – regular schedule this Sunday morning and evening.  Hope to see many members of the Friendship family in attendance.  Lord willing, I will be preaching in all three services.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 11/27/14

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 4:1-37 2 Peter 1:1-21 Psalm 119:97-112 Proverbs 28:17-18

Happy Thanksgiving!

Our special Thanksgiving service yesterday morning was great!  It was not announced until the Wednesday before yet we had almost one hundred (92) in attendance.  Brothers Jerry, Kerry, Chris & Dale along with Jeanette did well in leading our worship.  If the Lord allows me to live and continue to serve as pastor of the Friendship family until next year, you can go ahead and mark Wednesday, 11/25/15, at 10:00AM as our next special Thanksgiving service!  (If the rapture takes place prior to that date, I have asked Pastor James Messer to lead the service!)

Landon Joyner, son of Justin & Amber, is in the hospital.  He went in Tuesday with the hopes of being discharged yesterday but that did not happen.  Justin & Amber are content for him to remain until the tests are complete and they have some answers as to why Landon is having the problems he has had in recent weeks.

Tiffany Dawn was discharged from the hospital yesterday.

Clara Broadus has a sister, Faye Owens, who is in the hospital in Panama City, FL.  Her condition is critical.  Her gall bladder ruptured last week and it has gotten progressively worse since then.  Prayers definitely needed.

Ray Baber’s mother is in a rehab hospital in Atmore.

Levi Westbrook had another surgery yesterday.  It is my understanding that he will be in the Birmingham hospital for around the next three months.  Obviously, he has a long road to recovery.

How did my date go yesterday?  Awesome!  “C” was not feeling well but she was a trooper and joined us for the service and then lunch at the Lighthouse.  She and Rusty leave on Monday heading to MDA.  Their appointment with the doctor is set for Tuesday.

Our family will gather at the house today to celebrate Thanksgiving.  This will be our largest Thanksgiving family gathering to date as baby Audrey is now in the world.  Alan will be joining us too.  God is good and I am thankful for my family.

I have already prayed this morning for those families who will gather today for the first time without that family member being present.  For some, the wound is really fresh and they certainly need our prayer support.  Take time to think of others today.

Tomorrow is the big day – tailgating with Kim French!  She has graciously told me that I do not need to bring anything other than the hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, some two liter drinks, dessert, paper plates, cups, napkins and silverware.   She says they have everything else needed – is that nice or what!  (Bobby & Marlene, who does that remind you of from many years ago?)

I spent some time mowing yesterday afternoon.  Yes, my family i.e. Deidra & Daphne thinks I am crazy and Amy Reynolds now concurs after Lisa sent her a picture of me on the mower.  What is wrong with mowing on 11/26 while wearing white oyster boots?  (BTW, Karla Cooper or Dana Taylor can get you a really good deal on those white boots!)  Lord willing, I will mow some more today and tomorrow!  It is either mow or watch grandchildren – do you now understand?

I pray that you Thanksgiving Day will be blessed with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 11/26/14

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 2:24-3:30 1 Peter 4:7-5:14 Psalm 119:81-96 Proverbs 28:15-16

We will be having a special Thanksgiving service this morning beginning at 10:00AM.  That service will conclude by 11:00AM.  It is my hope that all available members of the Friendship family will attend.  As I said last week, if you need to be at home cooking and preparing for your family Thanksgiving, no problem.  Please do not feel pressured to attend.  This service is for folks like Sammy Bowden, Larry Whitehurst, Danny Lewis, et cetera who have nothing else to do!

Tucker Vice did well through his surgery.  Well enough that he was sent home yesterday afternoon and that was not necessarily the expectation.  He still has a “helicopter mom” but otherwise he is good!

Tiffany Fox also did well.  Deidra and I visited with her last night and she was doing ok.  The expectation is that she will be discharged this morning.  Tiffany is a sweetheart!  (I am biased in my opinion!)

Thank you to those who attended the memorial service for Cole Jordan yesterday.  Also, thank you to those who helped with the food to feed the family.  I know the family is appreciative.

Nicole posted a comment regarding Levi Westbrook’s condition on yesterday’s entry.  No change since then.

I have a date with another married woman today!  I am going to be brazen enough to take her to the Lighthouse where Lisa and I go often!  (That is if she does not stand me up!)  So, if you see “C” and me in the Lighthouse think nothing of it!  (Lisa and Deb have plans to join us!)  Please do not tell Rusty about this date as I am afraid that he and Bernard might show up!

The big day is almost here!  It is the day that everyone has been anticipating!  Thanksgiving?  No!  The Navy vs USA football game at Ladd on Friday afternoon.  I am so excited!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 11/25/14

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 1:1-2:23 1 Peter 3:8-4:6 Psalm 119:65-80 Proverbs 28:14

Happy 5th birthday to our oldest grandchild, Titus!  I hope your day is great!

Tucker Vice will have surgery early this morning.  Pray for TJ & Lindsey as they wait through this procedure and for the doctor doing the surgery.

Tiffany Fox will have surgery mid-morning today.  Tiffany is a sweetheart and is so very faithful to church.  Pray that all goes well.

Miss Vinnie Brewer will have cataract surgery today.  What a great lady she is.  Pray for her to do well through surgery.

The memorial service for Cole Jordan takes place today at noon from the Midway United Methodist Church.

Levi Westbrook went through a five hour surgery yesterday and it is my understanding that he is scheduled for another surgery today.

Laurie Chandler’s father, Jack Robertson, did not get a good report from the doctor.  Laurie has been spending time with her daughter, Sharon, in the Prattville area but has come home to be with her parents.

The Lord is good!  Daphne got her zero yesterday – praise the Lord!  The original plan was to do one more series of chemo shots but the doctor has agreed to hold off on that for now.  He will monitor her for the next month and then decide what, if any, action needs to be taken.  Thank you to those who have prayed.  We are grateful!

Friendship family, remember our special Thanksgiving service tomorrow morning at 10:00AM.  We will shut everything down at the conclusion (11:00AM) of that service with there being no service/Bible studies/classes/et cetera tomorrow evening.  However, we are on a regular schedule this Sunday morning and evening and that will be true for the following Sunday, 12/7, too.

It is amazing that the Saints are 4 – 7 and yet are tied for first place in their division.  If they do win their division, a lot of things will have to happen in order for them to advance in the playoffs.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

We were blessed with a really good day in our services yesterday.  We had one public profession of faith, two public reaffirmations of faith, and one assurance of faith.  We give God the glory for these decisions.

The community service last night was great – the music, the preaching, the offering and the attendance!  The Friendship family did very well in hosting the service and the fellowship – thank you!

The memorial service for Cole Jordan will take place tomorrow, 11/25, at noon from the Midway United Methodist Church on Highway 90 in Moss Point.  Pray for the Jordan family.

Levi Westbrook remains hospitalized but it is my understanding the doctors are giving encouraging reports to the family.

Daphne goes for labs today.  Still praying for a zero.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 11/23/14

Today’s Bible reading – Ezekiel 45:13-46:24 1 Peter 1:13-2:10 Psalm 119:33-48 Proverbs 28:11

It is my understanding that the funeral service for Cole Jordan will be private.  I will gather more details today and pass along the details in tomorrow’s entry.  I do not have an update on the young lady who was also involved in the accident.

Jimmy & Miriam Moates’ grandson, Levi, was involved in a very serious automobile accident early yesterday morning.  He is in a Birmingham hospital.  Of course, this is Dylan Westbrook’s brother.  Pray for Levi, the doctors involved in his care, and the family members traveling to, and from, Birmingham.

Keep praying for Dr. John Nicely.

Coley Johnson & Katelyn Jackson are officially engaged to be married.  This announcement comes after “only” dating for twelve years!  LOL!  I am told that the engagement will be short so wedding bells should be ringing soon.  Congratulations to Coley & Katelyn.

Regular schedule this morning.  Lord willing, I will be preaching both services.

Community Thanksgiving service tonight at 6:00PM in our auditorium.  Our ladies are asked to bring desserts for tonight’s fellowship which follows the service.  Friendship family, let’s be great host!  (The weather forecast calls for rain around noon but it should be out of our area before the evening service time)

No great surprises in college football yesterday.  Mizzou is a pretty good team.  Can they beat Arky this week?  I think so.  South “almost” beat USC.  We will get them this Friday, right Kim?  USA, USA, USA!  O wait, my nephew-in-law is a Naval Academy graduate.  I am conflicted!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 11/22/14 (SECOND ENTRY)

Cecil Guidry called this morning to share that Steve & Wanda Jordan’s grandson, Cole, was taken from this life in an automobile accident last night.  Of course, Cole is the son of Steven & Gabriel.  Do not know the details except that the accident happened in Mississippi, was a single vehicle accident, and there was one other person in the vehicle with Cole.  It is my understanding that person is in critical condition and may be taken to Jackson, MS today.  Pray for this family as they walk through this valley.

Received an e-mail from Dr. John Nicely.  He is experiencing more pain today and could be headed back to the operating room today to have his knee washed out again.  He appreciates the prayers.

SATURDAY, 11/22/14

Today’s Bible reading – Ezekiel 44:1-45:12 1 Peter 1:1-12 Psalm 119:17-32 Proverbs 28:8-10

Word on the street is that Rusty & C received the call from MDA.  It is my understanding they will leave on Sunday, 11/30, with an  appointment scheduled for Tuesday, 12/2.

I do not do social media i.e. FB, Twitter, et cetera.  I think Robin Nicely has been posting updates on Dr. John via FB but I obviously am not seeing those.  I do ask that you keep praying for Dr. John as he remains in a Grand Rapids hospital.

We are on a regular schedule tomorrow morning (worship at 8:00 & 10:30AM; Sunday School at 9:15AM).  Lord willing, I will be preaching both of those services and co-teaching SS with Rick Bradley.  My prayer is for a great attendance in both worship services and SS even though we have a number of folks out of town because of the holiday week.

The community Thanksgiving service takes place beginning at 6:00PM tomorrow.  We will not have any pre-service activities i.e. choir practice or classes.  I am praying for a full house for that service.  I am also praying that the members of the Friendship family will prove to be excellent hosts.  We need to be present in order to make that a reality.

Lisa and I are attending the Bama game this afternoon.  All of the other family members are chasing polar bears somewhere in central Alabama.  Lord willing, Lisa and I will arrive home tonight ready to go for in the morning.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.
