THURSDAY, 4/30/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 11:1-12:15 John 1:1-28 Psalm 101:1-8 Proverbs 14:13-14

The shock treatment on Stella Brinkman went well and she was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  As of last night, she remained out of afib.  Pray this remains true.

Dave Sellers mother was discharged from the hospital yesterday too.  She will be having surgery within the next two weeks to repair the hole in the sac around her heart.

Maria Wainwright’s mother was set to be discharged either last night or this morning.

Tommy Johnson continues to receive antibiotics in the hospital.  It is looking like he will be discharged on Saturday.

Vera Bosarge’s sister will most likely be placed under hospice care as she is not doing well.

The young boy in Jeanette Bates’ class remains in a Pensacola hospital.  There is talk of him eventually being moved to a Birmingham rehabilitation center.

Good day in our services yesterday/last night.  God is good!

“Roses for mama” on sale this Sunday morning and evening.  $2 each and will be available following the morning services on 5/10 which is Mother’s Day.

I am loving this weather!  I did not think we would have another opportunity to sleep with the windows open but we did last night.  (Sam Schjott does not like it but so be it!)  Nothing better than awaking to the sound of birds singing.

I have not been keeping up with the NBA playoffs – are the Lakers in the finals yet?

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 4/29/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 9:22-10:18 Luke 24:13-53 Psalm 100:1-5 Proverbs 14:11-12

Stella Brinkman should find out this morning if she is going to need to have a procedure done to get her heart back into rhythm.  Pray that the medicines have worked.

Tommy Johnson is prayerful that he will not need surgery but that the medicines will suffice.

Betty McMann did not break her wrist yesterday when she fell but suffered a sprain.  Obviously, she is not in the hospital.

Maria’s mother got a good report yesterday – no cancer!  Praise the Lord!  She is better.

Dave Sellers’ mother should be sent home from the hospital today and will have heart surgery in New Orleans at some point over the next two weeks.  She is losing fluid from the sac around her heart.

Still praying for those families involved in the DI tragedy as well as the over 5,000 families who lost loved ones in the Nepal earthquake.

Really praying for the nine justices on the US Supreme Court!

“Roses for mothers” will be on sale this Sunday, 5/3.  They will be available on Mother’s Day following our morning services.

Regular schedule this morning and evening.  The fare for the 7:30PM Bible study is poppy seed chicken with all of the trimmings.  That is a huge plus for attending that Bible study.  Lisa does an amazing job of feeding that group each week.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 4/28/15 (THIRD ENTRY)

Just found out that the family of Jimmy Charles “JC” Brown announced a few minutes ago that he is one of the remaining three men who are missing from the storm of this past Saturday afternoon.  JC’s wife, Jane, is the sister of Shirly Johnson who lives next to the L.G. Camp, Jr mission house in Guatemala.  I have personally known Jane for many years and have known JC basically ever since he and Jane got married.

JC and Jane are very active members of Dayspring Baptist in Mobile.  Pray for all of the families involved in this most difficult situation.

TUESDAY, 4/28/15 (SECOND ENTRY)

Tommy Johnson was admitted to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.  Will likely be there for the next two or three days.

Stella Brinkman was admitted to the hospital yesterday.  Come have a major procedure tomorrow if the medicine she is taking does not work.

Betty McMann took a fall and broke her wrist.  She is presently (4:50PM) in the ER.  One of her granddaughters (whom I will leave nameless) sent me a text saying “my nana fell and broke her wrist and is in the hospital.”  I replied, “which one?”  Her reply, “which wrist or which nana?”  Are you serious!  Not that it matters but Tommy, Stella and Betty are all in the same hospital.

The recovered a third body from Mobile Bay today.  It was not the person that I know.  Still praying for a miracle.

Blessings!

TUESDAY, 4/28/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 8:18-9:21 Luke 23:44-24:12 Psalm 99:1-9 Proverbs 14:9-10

Today is an important day in the life of our nation as the Supreme Court hears oral arguments relating to same-sex marriages.  My family and I gathered at 8:00PM last night and prayed for God to do what He alone can do in this situation.  Pray fervently!

As far as I know, Herbert Benefield was discharged from the hospital yesterday.  I visited him yesterday morning and he was waiting on all of the necessary things to be done before going home.  I told him to let me know if anything changed and I did not hear from him.

The medical folks removed two liters of fluid from the lungs of Dave Sellers’ mother yesterday.  They are still trying to determine the exact cause of this fluid.

Vera Bosarge’s sister, Juanita, is not doing well again.  She is not in the hospital but continues to have difficulties.

Maria’s mother remains in a Louisiana hospital.

Courtney Cavin’s dad, Calvin, has been having some issues with an infection in his back.  He has lost a significant amount of weight and he was a thin guy to begin with so it is not weight he needed to lose.  He spent a couple of days in the hospital but is home now.

Prayer meeting tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  Come and go, come and stay, just pray!  Enter/exit via the West side door, please.

TNBA tonight at 7:00PM.

Amber Joyner has Krispy Kreme doughnut coupons available and is also offering to make a Krispy Kreme run this Sunday morning if anyone is interested.  The proceeds will go toward the upcoming mission trip to Guatemala with part of them helping to build a house.   You can contact Amber at 751 4408 for more details or to place an order.

I received a very nice t-shirt this past Sunday night from Nolan.  It is in memory of his son, Kooper.  I got to wear it to the ballpark last night.  Nolan’s nephew, Josh, did the artwork and it is impressive!

Lisa received a bag full of tomatoes this past Sunday night from Charles Grant.  You talk about good eating!

Basically all of the downed limbs are now on the burn pile thanks to Bob Evans with an assist from Nanette Fontenot’s brother, Jimmy. John Milton will take care of the fallen tree and then the place will be ready to mow again.

Spent an hour or so in the garden yesterday morning.  If nothing happens to change it, will soon be harvesting squash, cucumbers and green beans.  Hope to get some dirt and fertilizer around my corn late this week – it is on life support!  Hope to plant the skips in my okra too.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 4/27/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 7:1-8:17 Luke 23:13-43 Psalm 97:1-98:9 Proverbs 14:7-8

Tuesday, 4/28 – Judges 8:18-9:21 Luke 23:44-24:12 Psalm 99:1-9 Proverbs 14:9-10

Wednesday, 4/29 – Judges 9:22-10:18 Luke 24:13-53 Psalm 100:1-5 Proverbs 14:11-12

Thursday, 4/30 – Judges 11:1-12:15 John 1:1-28 Psalm 101:1-8 Proverbs 14:13-14

Friday, 5/1 – Judges 13:1-14:20 John 1:29-51 Psalm 102:1-28 Proverbs 14:15-16

Saturday, 5/2 – Judges 15:1-16:31 John 2:1-25 Psalm 103:1-22 Proverbs 14:17-19

Sunday, 5/3 – Judges 17:1-18:31 John 3:1-21 Psalm 104:1-24 Proverbs 14:20-21

What blessings we enjoyed in our services yesterday morning and evening.  The attendance in our early service was our best of the day which is probably the first time that has ever happened.  We had a “good” attendance in our evening service but we have much room for improvement in that area too.  The crown jewel of the day was seeing four folks publicly accept Jesus as their personal Savior during our 10:30AM service.  God gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

8:00PM tonight!  I am asking members of the Friendship family and anyone else reading this entry to stop whatever you are doing tonight at 8:00PM and pray regarding the oral arguments that will be presented to the US Supreme Court tomorrow, 4/28.  Pray individually, pray as a family, pray as neighbors, but make sure you pray!  I am very concerned that too many of our churches are simply letting this matter slip by without much notice at all and without any fervent prayer.  God help us!  Use whatever means you have to contact others to pray!  God answers prayer!

Grief Share meets in the auditorium from 6:00 – 8:00PM tonight.

As I type this entry it is 5:00AM and the latest news is that the five folks are still missing on Dauphin Island.  I was notified yesterday after the second service that one of the missing persons is someone that we know.  Out of respect for the family’s privacy, I will withhold the name until the matter has been resolved.  I ask that you join me in praying for all of the families affected by this past Saturday’s storm.  What a tragic day for so many!

I have also just read that the death toll from the earthquake in Nepal has now reached 3,716 – wow!  That number will continue to increase as the rescuers have yet to reach some of the most remote places.  Pray for those affected by this tragedy too.

Herbert Benefield is set to be discharged from the hospital today.  I plan on visiting him this morning.

Maria Wainwright’s mother remains in ICU (Louisiana hospital) and was having difficulties last night.  She is expected to be in the hospital for another seven days or so.  Pray for Maria and family as they are driving to and from the hospital regularly.

Dave Sellers’ mother also remains in the hospital in Mississippi.

Ray Baber’s brother is in a Dothan, AL hospital.  He is better but still not well by any means.

We must not forget those who are battling cancer.  Pray!

Prayer meeting tomorrow night, 4/28, in the auditorium from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  TNBA at 7:00PM.

8:00PM tonight – pray!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 4/26/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 6:1-40 Luke 22:54-23:12 Psalm 95:1-96:13 Proverbs 14:5-6

Visited Herbert Benefield yesterday morning.  He was still in ICU at that time but sent an e-mail around 6:00PM saying that he was being moved to another room soon.  He is scheduled to be discharged Monday.

Ray Baber’s brother is in a Dothan hospital.  I heard from Ray last night and his brother is doing better.  He is battling asthma, COPD and allergies.  They kept him sedated for four days.

Maria Wainwright’s mother remains in a Louisiana hospital recovering from her emergency surgery.  She is making improvement.

We need to pray for the people in Nepal.  Almost 2,000 people have been confirmed as killed in the earthquake that hit yesterday.  That was a massive earthquake that measured 7.8  and the death toll will most probably increase in the coming days.

Regular schedule this morning and evening.  Our students going to Guatemala this Summer are hosting a pre-order meal today following the morning services.  Jim Chinners tells me there are twenty five extra plates available on a first come, first served basis.

Wow, what a storm we had yesterday afternoon around 3:00PM!  We lost the better part of one pecan tree and we have one million and twelve pecan tree limbs on the ground.  John Milton walked over after the storm and we compared garden notes – everything is laying over to the East.  I hope the plants will correct themselves when the sun shines again.  If not, I am filing a claim with the government for farmers’ aid.

One of the big oak trees just South and East of the office building was snapped into about halfway up.  Again, the winds were from the West so the tree fell on the East side meaning it missed the building – praise the Lord!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 4/25/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 4:1-5:31 Luke 22:35-53 Psalm 94:1-23 Proverbs 14:3-4

Maria Wainwright’s mother remains hospitalized in Louisiana.  They removed her colon.  I think Charlie & Maria will be traveling to LA and back tomorrow.

Herbert Benefield remains in the hospital too.  I did not visit yesterday so I am not sure why he was not discharged.  He remains in ICU.

Dave Sellers’ mother, Charlotte, was admitted to the hospital again.  She continues to have problems with fluid in her lungs.

Keep praying for those folks battling cancer – Becky Sellers, Lisa Thompson, Juanita Harris, Courtney Hubbard and the list just continues.

You are invited to join Bro. Benny and the bus workers for a time of prayer this morning beginning at 8:30AM.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  Lord willing, I will be preaching in all three services.  I hope to be joined by many members of the Friendship family.

I remind members of the Friendship family to take advantage of having this week’s “news & notes” in your hand in order to keep up with the various happenings within our church family.  That is the source of announcements now.

Two things happening tomorrow, 4/26, – a shower for our food pantry and “roses for mama” will be on sale.  Payment for the roses ($2 each) must be made at the time the order is placed and correct change is needed.

A “thank you” is in order to a number of folks related to Miss Nell Mulkey’s celebration of life service – Miss Vinnie Brewer for coordinating the meal, each person who cooked something for the meal, Cecil Guidry & Carol Lucky for hosting the meal, Raymond & Tina for hosting the refreshments during Thursday night’s visitation,  Kenny Lingle & Jeff Holifield for setting up the tables/chairs, Betty Creech & Logan Wainwright for cleaning the auditorium, Bro. Chris Taylor for doing the video, Bro. Kerry Kelley for running the sound and I am sure that I probably missed someone.  If so, I apologize.  The family was very grateful for the manner in which the Friendship family ministered to them during this most difficult time.  As your pastor, I too am extremely grateful!

Soy mowed on Thursday and Charles did so yesterday which means I had very little to do in the way of using the zero turn.  I was able to get my part of that done at dark thirty last night.  Still have to use the push mower and eat some weeds and hopefully can do that today.  Hope to spend some time in the garden as well but I have a birthday party (Emmy’s fourth) and a wedding (Lisa’s cousin) to attend in Pascagoula.  (It is raining here right now (5:00AM) so that may alter my garden plans anyway)

Six is my favorite number!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 4/24/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 2:10-3:31 Luke 22:14-34 Psalm 92:1-93:5 Proverbs 14:1-2

The service honoring Miss Nell Mulkey’s life takes place in the auditorium beginning at 10:00AM today.  Pray for Sandra, Larry and their families.

Maria Wainwright’s mother, Mrs. Hamilton, had to have emergency surgery yesterday.  It is my understanding that she did well through the surgery but now has a fairly significant recovery period.  She is in a hospital in Louisiana.

Visited Herbert Benefield in ICU yesterday.  He was very sore but was doing well as the doctor thinks this most recent surgery was successful.  There is a possibility that Herbert could be discharged today directly from the ICU.  Herbert has such a positive attitude.

Sharlynn Theobald had an Aunt to pass away yesterday in Tuscaloosa.  She has a cousin in Jackson County, MS who is not doing well physically.  Pray for these situations.

The young boy, Anthony, continues to make daily improvements.

Mission of Hope service tonight at 7:00PM.  Bus leaves at 6:15PM from the church.  Jim Chinners will be bringing the message.  Everyone is invited.

Folks are invited to join Bro. Benny and the bus workers in the morning at 8:30AM for a time of prayer.  This is a once a month happening.

“Roses for mama” will go on sale this Sunday, 4/26, and will remain on sale through the following Sunday, 5/3.  These will be available following the morning worship services on Mothers’ Day (May 10).  Each rose will cost $2.  Red roses in honor of the living mothers, white roses in memory of the mothers who have passed from this life and pink roses for that lady who has been like a mother to you.

Soy got a lot of the grass mowed yesterday afternoon which is a huge help to me today.  I was able to plow the lower half of the garden early yesterday morning even though it remains very wet.  My corn needs prayer – LOL!  My hope is to finish the grass this afternoon and then hit the garden.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 4/23/15

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 1:1-2:9 Luke 21:29-22:13 Psalm 90:1-91:16 Proverbs 13:24-25

Herbert Benefield’s surgery went well.  He is in ICU and will most likely be there for a couple of days.  Pray that his problems have not been corrected with this latest surgery.

Anthony, the young boy in Jeanette Bates’ class, is doing better and, according to the doctor, will make a full recovery.  Praise the Lord!

Maria Wainwright’s mother is in a Louisiana hospital.  Maria is there with her.

Conner Stork, grandson of Bobby & Faye Stork and Scott & Nanette Fontenot, has pneumonia.  He is not in the hospital but is a very sick little boy.

I received word yesterday that Ray Baber’s brother is in the hospital and not doing well at all.  I do not know the details but hope to get more information today.

Becky Sellers went to work with Dave yesterday and, as far as I know, did well.

The visitation with the Nell Mulkey family takes place this afternoon/evening from 5:00 – 8:00PM in the auditorium.  The service will take place tomorrow, 4/24, beginning at 10:00AM and will also be in the auditorium.

We were blessed with good services yesterday.  Our attendance in the auditorium seemed to be down a bit but, all in all, it was good.  Thank you to those who are faithful to attend.

One of my good pastor friends sent me an e-mail last night telling me that he resigned from his church.  Pray for him and the church.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.
