We were blessed with another good day in our services yesterday.  What a joy to see another young adult follow the Lord in believers’ baptism as a part of last night’s service.  Our attendance was really strong in the morning services and very good in the evening service.  Thank you for being faithful.  Thank God for His blessings!

Becky Sellers will have her final chemotherapy treatment today.  She will then be “off” for a few weeks before having twenty five radiation treatments.  She still has that positive attitude.

Carla Kyser has been sick and basically confined to the bed since last Friday.  Not sure of the cause but pray that she can feel better soon.

Brian Amonett was having some difficulties on Saturday night and there was talk of moving back into ICU.  Not sure if that happened or not.  Pray for Brian and his family.

Rusty’s grandmother continues to make improvement although she remains in the hospital.

GriefShare will meet tonight from 6:00 – 8:00PM in the auditorium.

GROW visitation takes place tonight beginning at 6:30PM.  It is our hope that our Sunday School classes will be well represented.

Today is the final day for members of the Friendship family to sign up for the two GRACE trips being led by the pastor next Summer.  I can already tell you that as of 12:01AM tomorrow (9/1/15) those two trips will be completely filled with a waiting list.  Just saying!

TNBA returns this week on Thursday night, 9/3, beginning at 7:00PM.  Attendance in at least one of our services either yesterday or this Wednesday is a must in order to join us.  All men, high school graduates and up, are invited to join us.

We have a story to tell!  Will you share it with someone this week?  I pray so!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 8/30/15

Today’s Bible reading – Job 34:1-36:33 2 Corinthians 4:1-12 Psalm 44:1-8 Proverbs 22:10-12

Visited Rusty’s grandmother in the hospital yesterday and she was doing much better.

Visited with a relative of Herbert Benefield’s niece.  His niece is in SICU so I did not see her but did speak to her relative.  She was possibly going to be moved into a regular room today.

Visited with some folks in hallway outside of Brian Amonett’s room as they were working on him.  As far as I know, he continues to improve step by step.

Spoke to Cynthia Cumbie via the phone last night.  She is at home and is doing better.

The service for Brandice Lambert Olson will take place tomorrow, 8/31, at 2:00PM from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family will take place from 12:00PM until the service time.  Pastor Tim Cauley will be preaching the service.  Pray for the family and pray for Pastor Tim.

Becky Sellers takes her last chemo treatment this week (not sure which day).  She will then be “off” for a period of time before receiving twenty five radiation treatments.

Today is appreciation day for our Minister of Music/Senior Adult Minister, Bro. Kerry Kelley as this month marks his thirteenth year on our staff.  A love offering will be received in all three services.  Members of the Friendship family are encouraged to send him a card/note of appreciation during this coming week.

The young adults involved in our 7:30PM Bible study are encouraged to see me today to get your book.

Four ministry teams are asked to meet with me this afternoon.  Each ministry team will meet in the old office.  Here is the schedule – Buildings & Ground @ 4:00PM; Personnel @ 4:30PM; Missions @ 5:00PM & Trustees @ 5:30PM.

Members of the Friendship family taking part in the December 2015 GRACE trip are asked to meet with me following tonight’s service.  We will meet in the youth building for no longer than thirty minutes.

College football officially began yesterday afternoon.  I did not watch the game but it was a good one as Montana defeated North Dakota State on basically the last play of the game.

TNBA resumes this Thursday night, 9/3, at 7:00PM.  Guys have up to six opportunities to attend at least one service in order to join us. This is designed for college age students and above.  Your’s truly is the oldest member of this league.  All men are invited to join us.  Bring your “A” game!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

MINISTER OF MUSIC KERRY KELLEY APPRECIATION DAY

Tomorrow, 8/30, has been set aside to recognize Bro. Kerry Kelley.  The month of August marks the thirteenth anniversary of Bro. Kerry serving as our minister of music/senior adult minister.  We will receive a love offering in all three services as a tangible way to show our love and appreciation to Bro. Kerry and his family.

Bro. Kerry is married to Barbara and they have two children, Jennifer & Steven, and three grandchildren.  Barbara is involved in the music ministry with Bro. Kerry.

So, join us tomorrow in celebrating Bro. Kerry’s  anniversary of serving the Lord through the Friendship family.  Pass the word!

SATURDAY, 8/29/15

Today’s Bible reading – Job 31:1-33:33 2 Corinthians 3:1-18 Psalm 43:1-5 Proverbs 22:8-9

This morning provides the opportunity for folks to join our bus visitation team members for a time of prayer.  They meet at 8:30AM in the fellowship hall.  If you read this early enough, they would love to have you join them for this time of prayer before they go make their visits.

No real updates from those for whom we have been praying.  I do know that Lisa was told last night that this latest round of chemo taken by Eddie Whitmore did not have as negative an impact as the first one did.

The service at the Mission of Hope seem to go well.  I appreciate the folks from the Friendship family who attended, provided food, et cetera.  Special thanks to Eva Mareno, Dylan & Elizabeth Westbrook, Alan Aldridge, Jonny Gaston & James Mareno for leading the musical worship.

We are on a regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  My prayer is for faithfulness from the members of the Friendship family.

I would like to meet with five different groups tomorrow afternoon evening.  The first four groups will meet in the old office area.  Here is the schedule:  4:00PM – Buildings & Grounds Ministry Team; 4:30PM – Personnel Ministry Team; 5:00PM – Missions Ministry Team; 5:30PM – Trustees.  These teams (committees) are the ones for the 2015-16 church year.

I ask those from the Friendship family who are participating in the Saturday, December 5, through Saturday, December 12, 2015 GRACE trip to meet in the youth building immediately following the evening worship service.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 8/28/15 (SECOND ENTRY)

In my earlier post today, I wrote that Carla goes back to see her doctor in six months.  Apparently, Carla either did not listen well or just plain got confused.  She goes back for a MRI in one month and then sees her doctor.  (I am certain it was her mistake and not mine – wink, wink!)  Anyway, now the record has been set straight!

FRIDAY, 8/28/15

Today’s Bible reading – Job 28:1-30:31 2 Corinthians 2:12-17 Psalm 42:1-11 Proverbs 22:7

The celebration of life service for Russell Johnson takes place this morning at 10:00AM from the Theodore Church of God.  I was able to visit with Liz Whalen and other members of Mr. Russell’s family last night.  Pray for that service.

I think the service for Miss Exie Woods went very well.  I appreciate those who came and supported the family.  I also appreciate those who provided the food along with those who served as hosts and hostesses.  Miss Exie was a sweetheart.

Carla Kyser was told by the neurosurgeon that the compression fractures were not severe enough to do anything about at this point in time.  Told her to keep taking the medicine and come back in six months.  What does that mean?  Well, I am no doctor but maybe, just maybe, it means that Carla has been milking this thing?  Just saying!  (Actually just trying to aggravate Carla!)  She is one tough lady and has endured more pain than I ever could but I am not going to tell her that!

Cynthia Cumbie remains hospitalized.  I did not get an update on her yesterday but will get one today.

I also did not get an update on Rusty’s grandmother but hope to do so today too.

Mission of Hope service tonight at 7:00PM.  Everyone invited.  The bus leaves the church at 6:15PM.

I want to give props to Maria and Logan Wainwright for getting the auditorium and fellowship hall cleaned early yesterday morning for the service and the feeding of the Woods family.  They went above and beyond the call of duty and I appreciate it.

It appears that TS Erika will work her way through Florida next week.  Let’s pray that she remains a tropical storm and does not become a hurricane.  That is the projection and I hope they are correct.

The weather the past couple of days has been awesome.  I have spent several hours working in the yard and have plans to be doing the same most of today.  I walked outside around 5:00AM this morning and the temp is up a bit and the humidity is definitely up.  However, the bit of relief we had was very welcomed and served as a reminder that October and November are coming!

Theodore High School vs Bryant High School in a football game tonight.  I wish both teams well.  I am a Coach Eric Collier fan.  Levi Seymour will be covering the game for al.com which leads me to ask one question – has Ben Thomas lost his mind?

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 8/27/15

Today’s Bible reading – Job 23:1-27:23 2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11 Psalm 41:1-13 Proverbs 22:5-6

The visitation with the Exie Woods family begins at 10:00AM today and lasts until the noon service time.  The visitation and the service will take place in the church auditorium.  If you are helping with the food for the family, please have it in the fellowship hall no later than noon.  Thank you to each person who is helping with this ministry.

The visitation with the Russell Johnson family takes place this afternoon/evening from 5:00 – 8:00PM at the Theodore Church of God.  The service takes place tomorrow beginning at 10:00AM and will also be from the Theodore Church of God.

Mary Jackson & Doris Perryman were discharged from the hospital yesterday.

Cynthia Cumbie remains in the hospital and they will be running more tests today to hopefully determine the root of her problems.

Carla Kyser meets with the neurosurgeon this afternoon.

Eddie Whitmore will have his pump removed today which ends this round of chemotherapy.

Brian Amonett remains in the hospital.  Not sure what will ultimately be decided as far as his physical therapy is concerned but he is making progress.

Rusty Suthoff’s maternal grandmother is in the hospital.  Herbert Benefield has a niece in the hospital.

We had a good day in our services yesterday.  We were down a bit in our morning service but several of those missing attended our evening service.  The attendance in our 7:30PM Bible study for college/young adults was really strong.  We divided into an older and younger group after the meal.  Special thanks to Rusty for allowing us to use his house as a place of study.

These cooler temperatures in the morning are a real blessing.  The Lord is good.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 8/26/15

Today’s Bible reading – Job 20:1-22:30 2 Corinthians 1:1-11 Psalm 40:11-17 Proverbs 22:2-4

Miss Mary Jackson was told by the doctor that she “may” be discharged from the hospital today.  If they give her half of a chance to leave, she will be gone!

Miss Doris Perryman could be discharged today as well.  It is possible that, whenever she is discharged, she will need someone to provide transportation to get her home.  If a couple or a lady would be willing to help with this, please call the church office this morning and let Miss Kittie know.  Again, this is not a definite but a possibility.

Cynthia Cumbie was admitted to the hospital yesterday.  She is in a different hospital this time and they seemingly have a better idea of what her problems “may” be.  She has been in a lot of pain.

The obituary for Miss Exie Woods is in an earlier post.  The Friendship family is going to provide a meal for the family following the service tomorrow, 8/27.  Carol Lucky will coordinate this ministry opportunity.  We will be asking folks to sign up during our morning service today.  If you are not going to be in that service but are willing to help, please call the church office before 10:00AM.  I think our ladies attending the 10:00AM service will provide sufficiently.  If not, we will ask in the evening service too.

The obituary for Russell Johnson is also in an earlier post.  Pray for the Johnson family.

Eddie Whitmore began receiving his treatment yesterday and will continue to do so until tomorrow.  Lisa visited with him yesterday and said he was doing  ok.  I think tomorrow begins the process of not feeling so well due to the treatment.  Keep praying for Eddie.

Mission of Hope service this Friday night, 8/28, beginning at 7:00PM.  The bus will leave the church at 6:15PM for anyone wishing to ride.  Everyone is invited to attend this service.

We are on a regular schedule this morning and evening.  Our preschool and children’s choirs meet at 5:30PM in the fellowship hall.  Parents, involve your children in these choirs.

We are making a change in our 7:30PM Bible study.  The meal will be served first and then the older group will move to Rusty’s house for their Bible study while the younger ones will remain at our house for their Bible study.  The meal for tonight is Mexican.  Lisa will do an outstanding job in providing that meal as she does week after week – pretty amazing!

How about this weather!  I walked outside around 4:00AM this morning and sixty four degrees felt wonderful!  We only get a couple of mornings like this before the temperatures go back up but I thank God for this reminder that Fall is coming!  God is good!

Speaking of weather, the National Hurricane Center is projecting Erika to make landfall on Florida’s Atlantic Coast on Monday as a category one hurricane.  Obviously, any of this is subject to change.

A group met last night to discuss the upcoming Upward basketball season at Friendship and a possible Upward (gulp) soccer season – are you kidding me!  Details forthcoming!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
