WEDNESDAY, 9/30/15

Today’s Bible reading – Isaiah 60:1-62:5 Philippians 1:27-2:18 Psalm 72:1-20 Proverbs 24:11-12

Scott & Nanette Fontenot became grandparents again yesterday as their daughter, Kristin, gave birth to Thomas Isaiah Woods.  He checked into this world weighing six pounds and eleven ounces.  He is nineteen and half inches long.  Mother and son are doing fine.  Congratulations to Josh & Kristin, Scott & Nanette and Kerry & Sherry.

The celebration of life service for Margaret Davis takes place today at noon from the chapel at Serenity Funeral Home.  It will be preceded by one hour of visitation with the family.  Bro. Jerry will be preaching this service.  Pray for the family and the service.

Greg Boutwell’s situation remains basically unchanged.  Still receiving antibiotics through an iv.  (I do not know how to spell intravenously)  No talk of a specific date for him to be discharged.

Cynthia Cumbie has been moved from ICU to a regular room.  No longer critical but still has much to overcome.

Holly Lybarger continues to struggle with her treatments.  Pray for her.

Brian Amonett just gets better and better.  Still has a ways to go in therapy but has come so far.  He and his family are very thankful to everyone for their prayer support.

The New Beginnings Church family has requested (at my offer) for help with the food following the celebration of life service for Pastor Donald Sewer this Saturday.  I will be speaking to Carol Lucky this morning and will share the specifics in tomorrow’s entry.

Thank you to each member of the Friendship family who traveled to Hattiesburg yesterday for the celebration of life service for Bro. J.B. Kelley.  Good representation.

Lisa and I left Hattiesburg and headed a bit North (Ellisville) to visit with her Aunt Virginia.  As always, we had a delightful time visiting with her.

I got home in time to spend about thirty minutes in prayer.  I was very pleased with the number of folks who had signed in as taking part in the prayer time last night.  Thank you!

Work day this Saturday beginning at 8:00AM.  Pancake breakfast at 7:00AM.  We need many folks to show up for the work day effort as there is much to do.

Nanette Fontenot is as mad as an old wet setting hen!  Why?  Great question!  She thinks that I should have been at the hospital for family pictures yesterday!  Can someone please explain to Nanette that just because you seriously dated someone does not mean you are a part of their family?  I am already anxious about the parking lot tonight!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 9/29/15

Today’s Bible reading – Isaiah 57:15-59:21 Philippians 1:1-26 Psalm 71:1-24 Proverbs 24:9-10

Nanette Fontenot e-mailed me last night and demanded that this be first on the blog this morning.  Their daughter, Kristin, was admitted to the hospital last night and will be induced this morning.  Pray that all goes well with the birth of Isaiah.  Pray for Josh & Kristin as they welcome their first child into this world.

Lisa and I will be leaving this morning going to Hattiesburg for the celebration of life service for Bro. J.B. Kelley.  The visitation with the family begins at noon and lasts until the 2:00PM service time.  Everything takes place at Providence Baptist Church.

I have not heard the arrangements for Miss Margaret Davis.

Miss Kittie’s cousin, John Ladnier, passed from this life and his service will take place today at 2:00PM in Oddfellow Cemetery.

Jimmy Moates got a good report yesterday from his latest PET scan.  He and Mariam are thankful.

Greg Boutwell had not seen the doctor when I visited yesterday so he is not sure when they may discharge him.  He is still taking antibiotics.

Cynthia Cumbie has shown improvement.  So much so, that they are talking about putting her into a regular room.

Laurie Chandler’s father is in the hospital.  He took a fall and they are trying to determine the cause of his problems.

As far as I know, the group made it safely to Tennessee yesterday.

We will have our prayer time tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM in the auditorium.  Lisa and I plan on visiting her Aunt Virginia after the service for Bro. J.B. but I hope to get back in time for the last part of the prayer time.  Regardless, the auditorium will be open beginning at 5:00PM.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 9/28/15

Today’s Bible reading – Isaiah 54:1-57:14 Ephesians 6:1-24 Psalm 70:1-5 Proverbs 24:8

Tuesday, 9/29 – Isaiah 57:15-59:21 Philippians 1:1-26 Psalm 71:1-24 Proverbs 24:9-10

Wednesday, 9/30 – Isaiah 60:1-62:5 Philippians 1:27-2:18 Psalm 72:1-20 Proverbs 24:11-12

Thursday, 10/1 – Isaiah 62:6-65:25 Philippians 2:19-3:3 Psalm 73:1-28 Proverbs 24:13-14

Friday, 10/2 – Isaiah 66:1-24 Philippians 3:4-21 Psalm 74:1-23 Proverbs 24:15-16

Saturday, 10/3 – Jeremiah 1:1-2:30 Philippians 4:1-23 Psalm 75:1-10 Proverbs 24:17-20

Sunday, 10/4 – Jeremiah 2:31-4:18 Colossians 1:1-17 Psalm 76:1-12 Proverbs 24:21-22

The Lord blessed us with a good day in our services yesterday.  Our morning attendance was up from the previous Sunday.  However, our evening attendance was down considerably due mainly to the unusual amount of rain that we received yesterday afternoon.  One of the local news stations reported Grand Bay as receiving 7.13 inches of rain.  As you know, it did not even begin raining until after noon yesterday.  Personally, I think the seven inches is probably on the low side.

I appreciate those who were able to attend the memorial service for Bro. J.B. Kelley.  Bro. Jerry Hovel did a good job of sharing during that service.  There will be another service tomorrow afternoon at 2:00PM at Providence Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS.  Visitation with the family begins at noon.

Miss Margaret Davis’ family will meet with the funeral directors today to schedule her service.  I do know that she will be buried in the Amory, MS area.

I will be visiting the hospitals this morning to get an update on Greg Boutwell, Louis Reyer and Cynthia Cumbie.

Holly Lybarger has not done so well with her first chemotherapy treatment.  Keep praying for her.

It was good to see Becky Sellers and Carla Kyser in our first service yesterday.  Eddie Whitmore was not able to attend.  Keep praying for these folks too.

Some of our senior adults left this morning heading to the National Quartet Convention in Tennessee.  Pray that they will have a good week.

There will be no organized GROW visitation or GriefShare tonight.  If you want to make visits for GROW and need assignments, please contact Bro. Jerry.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

MARGARET DAVIS ENTERS HEAVEN

Miss Margaret Davis departed this life and entered Heaven on Saturday, 9/26/15.  Arrangements incomplete.  Margaret was married to Anna Carol Bosarge and Brenda Poiroux’s father, J.B. Davis, for over forty years.  She is also the mother of two sons, Bob & Larry.  Pray for this family as they walk through this valley.

SATURDAY, 9/26/15

Today’s Bible reading – Isaiah 48:12-50:11 Ephesians 4:17-32 Psalm 69:1-18 Proverbs 24:5-6

Lisa and I visited Cynthia Cumbie’s family in the ICU waiting room last night.  Did not attempt to see Cynthia as it was shift change and she was not real alert.  She is not taking nutrition and they are at least talking about inserting a feeding tube.  (key words are “talking about” and not are “definitely” going to do so)  Pray for Cynthia!

Did not make any other visits yesterday nor did I hear from anyone else.  So, let’s just go with the “no news is good news” philosophy.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning.  The evening activity will be the memorial service for Bro. J.B. Kelley beginning at 6:00PM.  Nothing else.  For me, it is a matter of respect.  I hope many members of the Friendship family will attend this special service.

The security lights on the South side of the CAB are not working (subtle clue for an electrician to help us here.  We have the ladder and will buy the lights.  Just saying!).  I almost always park as far away from the auditorium as possible – trying to lead by example and leave the closer spots for older folks and guests (subtle clue for others to follow suit).  I parked there this past Wednesday night and by 7:30PM it was, as Pastor Terry Rainey says, “booger dark!”  I was almost to my car when it happened!  Out of the dark came this cough and a female says “hello!”  Startled me.  Proceeds to tell me that she had taken her husband to Auburn the previous Friday in order to have eye surgery but she ended up in urgent care with pneumonia.  I replied, “so sorry” while thinking “do they not have surgeons in Mobile?” Then she says, (remember it is booger dark) “can you come over here and pray with me?”  I said, “Nanette, you sound fine to me and I have a Bible study to teach!”  As she lunged toward me, I quickly got in my car and sped off.  Wow!  We have to get those lights repaired or replaced.  As I was driving away, I could hear her basically screaming, “we almost got married.  Does that not count for something!”  I may start having a deacon or Will Reynolds walk me to my car after each service!

Football predictions (for the record, I would have picked LSWho, Bama and San Diego State as the winners last Saturday)  – AU will beat State, Bama will beat ULM, Nebraska will beat USM and NCSU will beat USA.   Yes, I was at the game last week.  Yes, I was there when Bama lost to ULM, NIU, USM, et cetera.  Plan on going to the game today.  Lisa & I are taking a couple of ULM supporters with us.

Learned this week that Decker Terry is now a blog reader.  Decker & Martha live in Montgomery.  He played football at Ole Miss which is now known as the University of Mississippi Black Bears.  That puts our readership up to nine representing three places – South Mobile County, Madison, AL (Dr. Rex) and Montgomery, AL.  Is that cool or what?

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.
