FRIDAY, 10/23/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 42:1-44:23 2 Timothy 2:1-21 Psalm 92:1-93 Proverbs 26:3-5

Pattie Suthoff did well through her surgical procedure yesterday morning.  She was in hopes that she would be discharged but the surgeon indicated she would most likely remain hospitalized for a couple of days.  Bernard & Pattie are good folks!  (Well, one out of two is not bad!)

Eddie Whitmore had a fever yesterday so the doctor admitted him for iv antibiotics and to look for an infection.  Prayerfully, this will be effective and he will be discharged rather quickly.  Eddie has maintained such a good attitude through this battle.

I visited Cynthia Cumbie yesterday afternoon.  Folks, she looked as bad as I have ever seen her look.  The nurse came by an hour or so later and immediately called an ambulance to take her to the hospital.  The hospital they had hopes of putting her in was full so I am not sure of the outcome.  She definitely needed to be in the hospital.

Donald Butler’s mother had taken a turn for the worse when I was there yesterday.  It appears that it is only a matter of time as she has strongly requested no life support of any kind.

Becky Sellers and Carla Kyser both are scheduled to finish their respective radiation treatments today.  Saw Rob & Reb yesterday afternoon and they said their daughter, Holly, was doing much better.

Karla Cooper’s aunt, Miss Lola Mae Bosarge, will be buried today in a graveside service in the Oddfellow Cemetery beginning at 2:00PM.  Miss Lola is the mother of Kenny & Rusty Bosarge.

Lisa and I plan to leave early this morning heading to Birmingham.  Lord willing, I will be meeting with a friend in the ministry for lunch.  Then, out of the goodness of my heart, I am going to take the stupid guy’s laptop (the one who killed the fly on his screen) to the Apple store in order for them to replace his shattered screen.  I made an appointment for him and everything.  Folks, you cannot fix stupid!

My college football picks in tomorrow’s entry.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 10/22/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 39:1-41:18 2 Timothy 1:1-18 Psalm 90:1-91:16 Proverbs 26:1-2

Pattie Suthoff is scheduled to have a surgical procedure done this morning.  She is in hopes they will discharge her from the hospital once it is completed.

Lisa and I visited Donald Butler’s mother yesterday afternoon.  It seemed that she had stabilized some but it is still a critical situation.  Donald appreciates the prayers.

As of last night’s service, the arrangements have not been completed for Karla Cooper’s Aunt Lola.

TNBA tonight at 7:00PM.

This Sunday is another “sweet” Sunday for the Friendship family.  Please bring bags of wrapped candy to be used at the Hallelujah Festival on Saturday, 10/31.  Workers still needed too.

We will be blessed in our evening service this Sunday as we will be joined by the folks from the New Beginnings Baptist Church.  This will be an opportunity for us to show them our support as they walk through the valley of having lost their pastor, Donald Sewer.  My hope is for a full house.

Upward basketball registration continues.  Evaluations this Monday and Tuesday.

One of the reasons that I write this blog is to be a help to our nine readers so I am going to give you a great tip this morning.  Never kill a fly that has landed on your laptop computer screen unless you want a shattered screen.  I know a guy who did this yesterday morning and the result will be that was one expensive fly!  Of course, it is “possible” that the fly landed so hard on the screen that the landing is actually what shattered the screen?  Either way it is going to be expensive!  What a stupid guy!  Or, what a strong fly!

Nanette Fontenot is mad at me!  We passed in the parking lot before church last night and I said “what’s up dog” and her response was to merely shake her head and mumble “you are something!”  What does that mean?  I have a witness – Sammy Bowden.  I am going to make Nanette a promise right here on this blog – if I have a 50th anniversary celebration as pastor of the Friendship family then she will be allowed to sit by me on the first pew!  I so hope that makes her happy!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 10/21/15 (SECOND ENTRY)

Reb Nevin posted a comment on today’s first blog entry saying their daughter, Holly, is not doing well in receiving her treatments.  She is dehydrated again and was going to the doctor this morning to be rehydrated.

Talked to Caroline Ford earlier today and she said that her daughter, Cynthia, is really having a tough time.  Medical folks are coming three times a week.  Cynthia has an appointment with the doctor today.

Pattie Suthoff sent me a message letting me know that she has been admitted to the hospital with a staph infection.  They will do a surgical procedure in the morning.

Karla Cooper’s aunt, Lola Bosarge, passed away.  Arrangements pending.

Donald Butler stopped by to tell Lisa that his mother is in the hospital and is not expected to live through the night.

I would ask you to join me in praying for each of these needs.

WEDNESDAY, 10/21/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 37:1-38:28 1 Timothy 6:1-21 Psalm 89:38-52 Proverbs 25:28

I failed to mentioned in yesterday’s entry that Herbert & Peggy Benefield’s daughter, Robin, was involved in an accident in Pennsylvania which resulted in her having a broken arm.  She was admitted to the hospital for surgery.  She went home on Sunday afternoon as the surgery was a success.  Pray for her.

Eddie Whitmore has not been able to take his chemotherapy treatments for the past two weeks because of low white blood counts.  Pray that these counts will rise so he can receive the necessary treatments.

Becky Sellers and Carla Kyser continue to receive their radiation treatments.  Keep praying for them and all of the others battling cancer.

Regular schedule today and tonight.  I think bar-b-que is on the menu for tonight’s 7:30PM Bible study.

Registration for Upward basketball is taking place now.  You can click on the banner displayed on this website and register online.  Evaluations take place next Monday, 10/26, and Tuesday, 10/27.

This Sunday, 10/25, is our second “sweet” Sunday as we prepare for the Hallelujah Festival which takes place on 10/31.  Members of the Friendship family are asked to bring bags of candy to help with this ministry opportunity.  Workers are still needed too.

How did the family trip to the fair go?  Very good.  Saw about every member of the Friendship family plus thousands of others from South Mobile County.  How did the ferris wheel ride with Soy go?  He got scared and backed out – opted for cotton candy instead!

Pastor Wes Bates is praying for a 2004 Boston Red Sox like miracle for his beloved Chicago Cubs as they have fallen behind the Mets 3 – 0.  As long as there is a strike left, there is hope!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 10/20/15

Yesterday’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 33:1-34:22 1 Timothy 4:1-16 Psalm 89:1-13 Proverbs 25:23-24

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 35:1-36:32 1 Timothy 5:1-25 Psalm 89:14-37 Proverbs 25:25-27

Wednesday, 10/21 – Jeremiah 37:1-38:28 1 Timothy 6:1-21 Psalm 89:38-52 Proverbs 25:28

Thursday, 10/22 – Jeremiah 39:1-41:18 2 Timothy 1:1-18 Psalm 90:1-91:16 Proverbs 26:1-2

Friday, 10/23 – Jeremiah 42:1-44:23 2 Timothy 2:1-21 Psalm 92:1-93 Proverbs 26:3-5

Saturday, 10/24 – Jeremiah 44:24-47:7 2 Timothy 2:22-3:17 Psalm 94:1-23 Proverbs 26:6-8

Sunday, 10/25 – Jeremiah 48:1-49:22 2 Timothy 4:1-22 Psalm 95:1-96:13 Proverbs 26:9-12

Why was there no blog entry yesterday?  Great question!  Really no good answer.  I will say that I only heard from one of our nine readers regarding this matter so I guess it is all good.  My apologies.

Lisa and I attended a visitation with the family of Miss Alice Yvonne Taylor yesterday.  This is Ricky Taylor and Lisa Dianne Bryant’s mother.  Pray for that family.

I then went to Robertsdale to attend the memorial service for Rex Looney’s father-in-law, Pastor E.L. Mullen.  It was a good celebration of life service and Rex did a very good job of sharing.

Nanette Fontenot sent me an e-mail message late last night to tell me that Kelli was discharged from the hospital yesterday.  I am happy for Kelli.  She has seen some improvement but not much.

I am not happy with Nanette!  She lets me know about Kelli being discharged after dark thirty.  How about letting me know before I make the drive all the way to the hospital?  I asked her about this and her reply was that she was “mad” because I did not let her sit beside me during the anniversary celebration on Sunday night and Deidra did not let her share about “us” whatever that means!  Pray for Scott!

Our “Hope” Sunday was an incredible day.  Many thanks to Carla Kyser for leading this service and for speaking too.  Thanks to Becky Sellers and Mara Kay Hubbard for speaking as well.  All three speakers did excellent!  Thank you to each person who had any part in the service.  Really good day and we give God the glory.

The anniversary service was good too.  “Thank you” seems really inadequate but what does one say after such a wonderful evening?  I so appreciate Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy, Keith & Cindy Stanford and Pastor Shirlon & Jennifer Davis for being a part of that service.  Mike & Marlene Borja did an excellent job of catering the meal.  Jim & Glenda Chinners did a great job with the meat.  Deidra and Daphne, with an assist from Jennifer Davis, did very well in decorating and leading the service.  I was blessed to have my family come from Hartselle and for Josh & Mandi Fortner to come from Millbrook, Alabama.  Lisa’s Uncle Mac came over from Pascagoula.  Wow!  I appreciate each person who shared during that service including those on the video.  The e-mails, cards, iMessages, offering, et cetera were all nice as was the plaque given to me by the deacons in a private time.  I am definitely blessed!

We will have our prayer time tonight.  The auditorium will be open, the air on and the music playing.  I will not be able to be there for the entire time but will have someone covering for me as the Lord has provided!

Lord willing, our entire family will be attending the Jackson County Fair tonight.  It is family night and away we go along with thousands of others.  This is our only opportunity this week to attend this happening together.  Soy is excited about riding the ferris wheel with me!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 10/18/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 31:27-32:44 1 Timothy 3:1-16 Psalm 88:1-18 Proverbs 25:20-22

Big day at Friendship with our “Hope” Sunday this morning.  I pray that these two services will bring glory to God.  Pray for all who will be involved.

Our evening service will begin at 5:00PM instead of the usual starting time.  It is an honor for me to be able to say that if the Lord allows me to live until this Wednesday, 10/21, then I will have had the blessed privilege of serving as the pastor of the Friendship family for twenty five years.  Wow!  I am a very, very blessed man.  I fully recognize that fact and do not take it for granted.

Are you serious?  I was going back and forth from the Bama/A&M game to the State/Michigan game yesterday afternoon.  I changed channels as Michigan was about to punt.  Unbelievable!  I have very good friends on both sides of that aisle so I am happy for those Spartan fans and shocked for those “Go Blue” fans.  Wow!

I look forward to today/tonight.  Hope to be joined by hundreds!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 10/17/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 30:1-31:26 1 Timothy 2:1-15 Psalm 87:1-7 Proverbs 25:18-19

Arrived home late last night.  As far as I know, everyone else did too.  Thank you for praying.

Rex Looney is a faithful reader of the blog.  His father-in-law passed from this life yesterday morning.  Pray for the family.

No other updates.  As far as I know, Kelli Stork remains in the hospital.

Big day tomorrow morning and evening.  The 10:30AM service will be the focal one as far as our “Hope” Sunday is concerned.  Pray.  Participate!

We will also be receiving a special offering for our playground.  Pray and give as the Lord leads.

Again, I appreciate each person who has put forth an effort to help with tomorrow night’s service.  May it glorify God.

My football picks (which is why most folks read the Saturday entry) – Auburn over UK, Bama over A&M, Michigan over MSU, USM over UTSA, Stanford over UCLA, LSWho over UF, and Arkansas State over South.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 10/16/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 28:1-29:32 1 Timothy 1:1-20 Psalm 86:1-17 Proverbs 25;17

Nanette Fontenot sent me an e-mail saying that Kelli has not been discharged from the hospital and most likely will not be discharged until some time next week.  Her headaches are very severe.  Pray for the doctors to find an answer.

No other updates.  Sorry.

The 2015 Guatemala pastors’ conference is now history.  The men had a full day yesterday as they each taught three workshops.  Five folks leave early this morning while the other ten of us leave early afternoon.  The flight into Mobile does not arrive until late tonight.

Looking forward to Sunday morning.  Not looking forward to Sunday night although I am grateful.  I now know that I have family coming in from out of town – really?  Way too much!  I already know too much about the service.  It is amazing how much you can learn by just listening!

I can honestly say that I will be thrilled if we can fill the house on Sunday morning and evening.

Pray for us as we travel today.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 10/15/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 26:1-27 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18 Psalm 85:1-13 Proverbs 25:16

As you know, I am in Guatemala for the annual GRACE Ministries pastors’ conference.  I am at the mercy of others to send me updates in order to pass along the information on this blog.  I did not receive any updates yesterday/last night so I do not have any news to report.  By the way, have had problems getting online this morning thus the lateness of this post – sorry!

Pastors Chad Middlebrooks, B.R. Johnson, Bob Harvey and Mark Mast preached yesterday.  They all did very well.  I had never met Pastor B.R. prior to this trip but the brother can preach!  I was blessed by all four of the messages yesterday.  (I will have to say that I think BJ probably preached Pastor Doug’s sermon on Tuesday better than PD preached himself!)  All of the men did one workshop as did Tina Mast.  It was a good day!

Today, Pastor Terry Nappier (did I mention that some idiotic person left him at the airport?) preaches first thing and then Pastor Terry Rainey brings the conference to a close tonight.  There will be three workshops in between.

“Hope” Sunday this Sunday, 10/18, during our morning services.  Pray.  Participate!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 10/14/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 23:21-25:38 2 Thessalonians 2:1-17 Psalm 84:1-12 Proverbs 25:15

Received word from Nanette Fontenot that their daughter, Kelli, remains hospitalized.  Still having headaches but they are pleased with the doctors working with her now and feel they will eventually be able to help her.

Teddy Ray’s mother did not have a procedure done this week and will be moving to a rehab facility in order to build her strength.

Also got word that the young Graham girl is not doing well in her battle against cancer.  She, along with her family, certainly need our prayer support.

Carla Kyser is heading up our “Hope” Sunday.  Pray for her as she puts all of this together.

The pastors’ conference got off to a good start yesterday.  We had some problems with the sound system but everyone was flexible and it worked out fine.  Pastor BJ Parson preached yesterday afternoon and I preached last night.  Everyone did a workshop yesterday afternoon.  I am guessing there are right at four hundred folks present for this conference.

Someone did something STUPID yesterday – they forgot to make arrangements to get Pastor Terry Nappier from the Guatemala City airport!  How dumb is that!  Some people!  I will not call that person out publicly but what an idiotic move on his part!  Pastor Terry is such a humble, understanding and forgiving man.

The team was blessed at supper last night as Oscar, Rosa, and Sophia Mirinda came to the mission house and cooked pupusas – hooray! They were excellent!

Do not forget the needs for the Hallelujah Festival.  We need two “sweet” Sundays in a row!  Workers needed too!

Regular schedule this morning and tonight.  Pizza will be served for the 7:30PM Bible studies.

Upward basketball registration is taking place now.  Kyle Bryant is the point man on this one.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
