This entry is way late!  You think!  Which begs the question, “why?”  Well, Claire Turner had asked if she could be the guest blogger this week and I agreed – should have known better.   She missed the very first day.  Said she forgot!  Wow!

Visited Cynthia Cumbie in the hospital today.  From a layman’s perspective, she looked like she had improved from Saturday.  No longer on the vent.  Was able to talk to me using one word answers.  Still has a long way to go in my opinion but seemingly better.

Chris & Sherry Howell’s son, Gunnar, was admitted to the hospital yesterday.  They had taken him to an urgent care and it was discovered that his sodium level was low.  They were thinking that he “could” be discharged late this afternoon.

Jimmy Tagert’s mother is in the hospital.  She had surgery on her back on Friday and seemingly had a stroke at some point afterwards.

My good friend, Tom Compagner, is in afib.  They will do a procedure tomorrow morning where they will stop his heart.  Pray that all goes well.

I have another good friend in Michigan, Jen Solis.  She sent me a message last night to tell me that her paternal grandmother passed away yesterday.  Her paternal grandfather passed away only five months ago.  Pray for this family.

I have yet another good friend in Michigan, Gail Pugh.  I learned today that her mother passed away yesterday.  Pray for this family too.

(Please do not tell anyone that I have friends who are Yankees!  I do have an reputation to keep up!)

Good day in our services yesterday.  God is good!

Our prayer time tomorrow will take place from 5:00 – 6:00PM – only one hour.  Please note the change and pass the word.

I pray that the rest of your afternoon and evening are great!

SUNDAY, 11/29/15

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 6:1-28 2 Peter 3:1-18 Psalm 119:129-152 Proverbs 28:21-22

Visited Cynthia Cumbie in the hospital yesterday.  Of course, she is on a vent and is not able to communicate verbally.  I do not know if she was aware of my presence but I spoke to her and had prayer with her.  I did not speak to Caroline yesterday but do know that she continues to need our prayers too.

Regular schedule for the Friendship family today with one exception – no Discipleship Training.  Otherwise, we are good to go as normal.

We will be receiving a special benevolent love offering in our morning services today.  We have been blessed to be able to help meet a couple of needs in recent weeks and want to give the members of the Friendship family the opportunity to be a blessing while being blessed.  Pray and give as the Lord leads.

If Michigan would have beaten the Buckeyes yesterday, I would have been perfect in my predictions!  Come on Wolverines!  I did get my fill of college football yesterday.  The Notre Dame/Stanford game was fun to watch and I liked the ending.

Sounds like LSWho is keeping Coach Miles.  I could hear Rusty screaming like a little girl late last night whenever the AD made the announcement.  Really?

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 11/28/15

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 5:1-31 2 Peter 2:1-22 Psalm 119:113-128 Proverbs 28:19-20

Cynthia Cumbie remains in “critical” (my word not the doctors) condition in the ICU.  Caroline is so sick that she is confined to the bed at home.  Pray for Sissy & Caroline.

We are on a regular schedule tomorrow with one exception – no Discipleship Training.  Otherwise, everything is normal with the two morning services, Sunday School and the evening service.

I spent yesterday afternoon mowing.  Probably the last time I will need to mow in November!  BTW, Rusty has been home all weekend.  The mower started and Rusty immediately left!  I think his vehicle must be linked to my mower so it starts as soon as my mower does?

On the football picks for today – GA Southern over USA (sorry David & Kim); UM over OSU; USM over La Tech; Mississippi over MSU (sorry Arnold); LSWho over A&M; OU over OSU and I am going with Bama over AU (picked against Bama once this year and was gladly proven wrong).

I will say that if LSWho fires Les Miles then the shame is the way this whole thing has been handled.  The man deserves much better than the way it has been handled.  Personally, I hope he gets to stay at LSWho.  Rusty has basically cried all weekend and wants to start a Go Fund Me page for Coach Miles – wow!

I plan on getting my fill of college football today if everything goes as planned.  Probably the best weekend of the year as far as the regular season is concerned.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 11/27/15

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 4:1-37 2 Peter 1:1-21 Psalm 119:97-112 Proverbs 28:17-18

I failed to mention in yesterday’s entry that Stella Brinkman has a medical issue related to something around her heart.  She will see the doctor on Monday.

I decided to hit Walmart for groceries early yesterday morning so as to not have to do so this morning or in the morning.  It was a smart move as I basically had the store to myself!  Whenever I got home, Lisa put the hammer down!  She insisted that I hand wash her car and vacuum the inside.  She gave me no option!  (Actually, she did but it would have been really bad!)

We enjoyed a wonderful noon meal as a family.  The girls then readied for a Walmart run after which they came home to unload their bounty and head out again.  They left home the second time around 9:00PM and got back at 4:15AM – insane!  Lisa said, “we had such a good time!”  Are you serious?

I made a decision during the night – next year we are going to open the CAB at 6:00PM on Thanksgiving Day and leave it open until 6:00PM on the Friday following.  Women will bring their purchased items to the CAB and we will have a panel of judges to decide which ones are the best along with which category they belong to and other folks can come and just marvel at the great deals these ladies have gotten.  We will have concessions available, Dale will do a show from time to time, our praise band will play periodically and our scoreboard will keep a running tally of how much money these ladies saved by spending!   It is going to be great!  I can already sense the excitement building among folks like Jason Taylor, TJ Vice (he will be one of the judges), and Rhett Butler.  (It will kind of give it a fishing rodeo feel!)  Believe me when I say that no other church family is presently doing this!  Cutting edge stuff!

Always good to see the Cowboys lose even though I did not actually watch the game.  Did watch the Bears v Packers last night as I wanted to see Favre’s ceremony.  I still vividly remember Favre leading USM to a 27 – 24 victory over Alabama on September 8, 1990 after suffering a near fatal car accident only six weeks earlier.  The dude basically left his hospital room and hit the football field to beat Bama!  However, I am over that Bama loss!

College football picks are back tomorrow morning.  Two of our nine readers were upset with me last week because of the no picks thing!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 11/26/15

Happy Thanksgiving!  I hope that your day is blessed!

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 2:24-3:30 1 Peter 4:7-5:14 Psalm 119:81-96 Proverbs 28:15-16

Caroline Ford called me yesterday afternoon to say that her daughter, Cynthia Cumbie, is back in ICU.  Not sure of all the details but do know that Cynthia had been doing really good.

Caroline continues to sound horrible herself.  She is a very sick lady.

Elaine Brown’s husband, Larry, was taken to the hospital yesterday morning.  I do not know if he was admitted or not.

Keep praying for those battling cancer.  No new updates on them.

I believe that I am correct in saying that Dale & Karla fly to Denver, CO today for a ministry opportunity.

Thank you to those who attended the service yesterday morning.  There were around sixty of us who gathered to say “thank you” to God.  I appreciate Bro. Kerry, Bro. Jerry & Dale sharing along with those who gave brief testimonials.

Would you pray about giving to the benevolent offering this Sunday morning, 11/29?  Cecil Guidry shared a nice testimony about this in our service yesterday morning.

The church office is closed today.  In the event of an emergency, I am available.  Have plans to be around the house all weekend.  Black Friday shopping – are you serious?  (Are not all shopping days “black?”  Yuk!)

They could not stand it!  Alan, Rusty & Soy came back last night to try again.  The results were the same i.e. I basically destroyed them in Hearts.  It was so bad that I had to take them to the Waffle House afterwards just to make them feel better.  Will they ever learn?

I pray that your Thanksgiving Day will be a great one with Jesus.  Thank Him!

WEDNESDAY, 11/25/15

Happy sixth birthday to our only grandson, Titus!  I hope his day is great!  Wow, have our lives changed since 11/25/09 or what?

Today’s Bible reading – Daniel 1:1-2:23 1 Peter 3:8-4:6 Psalm 119:65-80 Proverbs 28:14

I learned yesterday afternoon that Miss Jackie Goff is in the hospital.  I do not know if that means she never came home last week or had to be admitted again.  Pray for her.

Holly Lybarger will have another chemo treatment today.  Reb asks us to pray that Holly will be able to take this one without getting so sick.  She has had a tough time in this area.

Carla Kyser has a couple of infections.  She probably should be in the hospital but they are treating them at home.  Have I ever mentioned that Carla is hard headed?

Brian Amonett celebrated his fortieth birthday yesterday.  He is doing well and could be sent to New Orleans for surgery at any moment and that is a literal statement.

We are having a Thanksgiving service this morning at 10:00AM and will finish by 11:00AM.  It is my hope that the members of the Friendship family who are in town will give an hour to the Lord this morning.  However, I realize that many folks are busily preparing for tomorrow’s gathering with family and friends and will not be able to attend.  I am fine with that.  Come if you can!

On this day (tomorrow’s date) one year ago, I had a date with “C” and that memory is so very fresh in my mind.  She came to our Thanksgiving service even though she did not feel well at all.  A group of us then went to the Lighthouse for lunch.  Little did any of us know that in only a little over two weeks the Lord would call “C” home.  I miss “C” and will go by the cemetery at some point today.  Not to see her but just to remember and reflect.

Remember, no services/classes/Bible studies tonight.  Church office will close at noon today and will remain closed until Monday morning, 11/30, at 8:00AM.  I am the staff member on call this weekend should an emergency arise.  The best way to reach me via the phone is to call my house 865 4912, Lisa’s cell 259 8072 or my office 445 5416 (messages go directly to my e-mail).  You can call my cell but I just do not have it on much at all.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 11/24/15

Today’s Bible reading – Ezekiel 47:1-48:35 1 Peter 2:11-3:7 Psalm 119:49-64 Proverbs 28:12-13

Carla Kyser continues to be sick.  The doctor tried to admit her to the hospital yesterday but she wiggled off the hook.  In my opinion, her only problem is that she is hard headed!  And she is too hard headed to admit that she is hard headed!

I did not get an update on Eddie Whitmore’s visit to the doctor yesterday but will try to do so today.

Caroline Ford is sick.  She is at home but has been really, really sick.  She will be mad because I put this on the blog but she will get over it.

They have diagnosed Melba Schafer as having a severe case of Crohn’s disease.  They have begun treating it and she is better.

Lisa’s aunt, Virginia, is in the hospital.  We need to visit but she is not happy at being there and wants someone to get her out so we probably need to stay away for the time being.

Prayer time tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  Actually, the auditorium is open much earlier for anyone wishing to come before 5:00PM.  I am thinking we will suspend these prayer times during the month of December.  Will make a definitive decision by Sunday.

Remember, we will have a Thanksgiving service tomorrow from 10:00 – 11:00AM.  Nothing in the evening i.e. service, classes, Bible studies, et cetera.

Nanette Fontenot called yesterday and wants us to have Thanksgiving together.  Are you serious?  Says she wants it to be like “old times!”  (Folks, we have never had Thanksgiving together but please do not tell her or she will explode!)

I think the fence company finished installing the fence around the playground yesterday.  Looks good.  I am grateful.  The new playground has already proven to be practical and beneficial to our preschoolers.

Iron Bowl week.  When I was younger, I used to read every article, listen to the radio, et cetera all of the week leading up to the “big” game.  I find myself now just wanting Saturday to come and let the game be played and be over.  Too much media coverage for me.  I like college football but enough is enough.

My Upward team will practice today, Lord willing.  I am predicting that we will not lose a game this season!  How can I be so confident?  Well, I do know the two guys coaching the other team!  (Only two teams in our league)  Just saying!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 11/23/15

Today’s Bible reading – Ezekiel 45:13-46:24 1 Peter 1:13-2:10 Psalm 119:33-48 Proverbs 28:11

Tuesday, 11/24 – Ezekiel 47:1-48:35 1 Peter 2:11-3:7 Psalm 119:49-64 Proverbs 28:12-13

Wednesday, 11/25 – Daniel 1:1-2:23 1 Peter 3:8-4:6 Psalm 119:65-80 Proverbs 28:14

Thursday, 11/26 – Daniel 2:24-3:30 1 Peter 4:7-5:14 Psalm 119:81-96 Proverbs 28:15-16

Friday, 11/27 – Daniel 4:1-37 2 Peter 1:1-21 Psalm 119:97-112 Proverbs 28:17-18

Saturday, 11/28 – Daniel 5:1-31 2 Peter 2:1-22 Psalm 119:113-128 Proverbs 28:19-20

Sunday, 11/29 – Daniel 6:1-28 2 Peter 3:1-18 Psalm 119:129-152 Proverbs 28:21-22

The Lord blessed us with a good day in our services yesterday.  We are thankful.

I appreciate those who attended the community service at First Baptist last night.  We had a fair representation from the Friendship family.  Bro. Jerry, Bro. Kerry and the choir all did a nice job of leading that service.

We are on a short week this week.  The church office will be open today, tomorrow and until noon on Wednesday.  It will then be closed Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.

We will have a service at 10:00AM on Wednesday.  There will be no services/classes on Wednesday night.

As it stands right now, we are hospital free as far as members of the Friendship family are concerned.  Eddie Whitmore sees the doctor today to determine if his blood counts are up enough for him to receive treatments.  Carla Kyser was sick yesterday but I am not sure what the outcome was once she contacted her doctor.

Soy, Alan & Rusty basically begged me to play “Hearts” last night.  Why?  It only takes me a few minutes per game to destroy them even though they team up on me.  You would think they would eventually get it and quit asking!  By the way, Rusty wanted me to pray for Coach Miles and LSWho – I just looked at him!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 11/22/15

Today’s Bible reading – Ezekiel 44:1-45:12 1 Peter 1:1-12 Psalm 119:17-32 Proverbs 28:8-10

Melba Schafer, Herbert Benefield’s niece, is scheduled to undergo exploratory surgery this morning.  The doctors are seemingly stumped as to the cause of her problems to exploratory surgery it is.  Pray for the doctors to find the answer.

Regular schedule this morning with our two worship services and Sunday School.  Thanksgiving baskets being distributed following the 10:30AM service as well as the Thanksgiving meal for those involved in our bus ministry.

Tonight, we will move our service to First Baptist Grand Bay for the annual community Thanksgiving service.  Bro. Kerry will be leading the musical worship and Bro. Jerry will be bringing the message.  It begins at 6:00PM.  My hope is that the Friendship family will lead the way in attendance.

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 11/21/15

Today’s Bible reading – Ezekiel 42:1-43:27 James 5:1-20 Psalm 119:1-16 Proverbs 28:6-7

Good morning from Meridian, MS.  This entry is late but you do realize that I am in Mississippi.  They only got internet this past week and it is the dial up kind.  A little spotty and a little slow but they are happy to have it at all.  Working with what I have!

Regular schedule tomorrow morning.  Nothing takes place on the Friendship campus tomorrow night as we will all gather at First Baptist Grand Bay for the annual community Thanksgiving service.  Bro. Kerry will lead the musical worship and Bro. Jerry will bring the message.  The Friendship family needs to support this service big time.  Thank you in advance for doing so.

Let me give a huge shout out to Dr. Derek Draft in Granville, Michigan.  He came in on his off day and worked in my mouth.  Got up into my sinus cavity doing some type of a lift.  Not sure all that he did but do know the he was very good.  Amazing what a man can do in a small room off the back of his garage.  Those Craftsman tools are not just for mechanics!  It is almost always exciting to be “first” in any thing and to be the first patient for him to do this type of procedure was great!  (Not sure what the metal thing was I spit up last night but I figure it was just extra parts!)

Spent about three hours yesterday afternoon meeting with a computer guru, voice over master, web site designer extraordinaire, et cetera – Tony Gettig.  He also happens to be my first cousin.  He and I had a very productive meeting.   Changes are coming!

I leave Michigan and they get like three inches of snow.  Upsets me to no end!

Lisa, Dana, Gina and I are heading to Tuscaloosa this morning for Bama’s final home game of this season.  Wow!  Good family time for us and I look forward to the day.

No college football picks today.  Sorry!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.
