SATURDAY, 1/23/16

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 32-34

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

I was wrong (again)!  The visitation with the Gerald Brannan family will take place on Monday, 1/25, from 10:00AM until the noon service time.  Visitation and service will be held at First Baptist of Grand Bay.  Keep praying for the family.

Also, Lexie Whitehurst’s mother, Lisa, passed from this life and the visitation with her family will take place on Monday, 1/25, from 3:00PM until the 4:00PM service time.  Visitation and service will be held at the Azalea City Funeral Home in Mobile.  Pray for Lexie and her family.

Louis Reyer was moved to a convalescent home facility yesterday.  He will be in rehab for several weeks.

Brian Amonett took eighty two steps yesterday which, as Bill put it, is the equivalent of running a marathon.  Good stuff.

Bro. Jerry was with the family as Albert West had surgery yesterday.  The surgery went well.

Sarah Thornton went home from the hospital on Thursday.

Miss Jackie Goff is in a facility over in Baldwin County.

Upward today from 8:00AM until 4:00PM.

I do not have time to tell you how God orchestrated Lisa and my getting home from Guatemala yesterday.  Amazing!  Just like God!  We arrived home safe and sound just before midnight last night.  God is good!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 1/22/16

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 30-31

Nolan Brannan’s father, Gerald, passed away yesterday.  While I am not certain of the arrangements, I “think” everything will take place tomorrow, 1/23.  (I cannot get the internet to pull up those arrangements even though I can find the name)  Pray for the Brannan family during this time of sorrow.

Neal West’s father, Albert, will be having surgery today.

Our granddaughter, Emmy, will also be having surgery today.

Louis Reyer remains hospitalized but is doing better.  Should be moved to a rehab facility soon.

Brian Amonett continues to do well in his physical therapy.

I do not have an update on Sarah Thornton.

Upward basketball tomorrow from 8:00AM until 4:00PM.

Lord willing, Lisa and I will arrive home tonight.  We are flying into Atlanta and then driving home from there.  We have been blessed with a most productive week.  Last night, we were able to enjoy a meal and fellowship with Tico, Lisa & David Vargas.  We are very grateful to Josh & Mandi for joining us on this trip.  We have seen God do some neat things!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 1/21/16

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 27-29

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Louise Reyer is doing better.  It is hoped that he can be moved reasonably soon to a rehab facility.

Sarah Thornton remains hospitalized.  (Early test results indicate that she has not gotten over the passing of Paul “Bear” Bryant.  Is that odd or what?)

Courtney Cavin will be teaching a new Discipleship Training class for young women beginning this Sunday, 1/24.  Interested?  Give her a call for more details.

Volcano Fuego was putting on a nice show last night.  The Guatemala airport closed and all of the morning’s early flights have been delayed until around noon at the earliest depending on the volcano’s activity today.

Lisa, Mandi, Josh & I had a really good visit with Mike & Dottie Clark yesterday and then we visited Casa Alleluya too.  The devotional time with the Moline team was sweet.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 1/20/16

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 25-26

Good morning from El Tejar, Guatemala.  I do not have any updates from South Mobile County.  Going to go with the “no news is good news” philosophy and pray that is true.

Regular schedule this morning and evening.

Lisa, Josh, Mandi and I had a good day yesterday.  We were able to help a family with some groceries, buy some things that will help Deidra and the girls this Summer and beyond, visit with Haley Rae Garnett, and minister to a family from the seminary.

Last night, we attended the installation service for the new president of the seminary.  His name is Jose Navichoc.  It was a good service.  GRACE Ministries was recognized for their partnership with the seminary and was asked to continue in that partnership.  We were able to briefly speak with President Jose during the reception.

Tico called me at 4:15PM and said the speaker for last night’s service had to cancel at the last moment asking if I could step in as his substitute.  I agreed and began to prepare a message.  At the 7:00PM hour, Tico called me outside to tell me that the speaker had unexpectedly arrived.  I was good with that.  Still charged my normal fee though!

The team staying in the mission house this week is from Moline, Michigan.  I will be sharing with them this morning during their devotional time.  We will then be meeting with Mike & Dottie Clark in regard to the medical clinic being planned for the mountain.

The weather here is cool and nice.  Very pleasant.  As always, pretty much perfect temperatures.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

TUESDAY, 1/19/16

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 22 – 24

This entry is late.  I apologize and will explain later in this post.

Visited with Louis Reyer yesterday morning.  He seemed to be doing good.  Sounded much, much more like the Louis of old.  The doctor came in so I excused myself without getting the details of what happens next.

Went and prayed with Dale, Karla & Harper before Harper’s surgery yesterday morning.  She did well and things went as planned.  They are grateful for all of the prayers.

Sarah Thornton will be admitted to the hospital today and should be in for a couple of days.  They are doing some evaluations.  (Trying to determine why she is an AU fan maybe?)

Prayer time tonight from 5:00 – 6:00PM.

Lisa and I left Grand Bay shortly after 9:00AM yesterday morning and drove to the Atlanta airport in order to catch a flight to Guatemala.  You drove to Atlanta?  Yes.  Great fare and it allowed us to begin the process of getting things to Guatemala that Soy, Deidra and the girls will need this Summer and beyond.  (Actually, for Deidra and the girls as I do not care about Soy’s needs)

The reason we came to Guatemala is because we were invited to attend the installation service of the new president of the seminary here in Chimaltenango.  That service takes place tonight.  After consulting with several groups of people, it was decided that it would be a good PR move for GRACE Ministries to be represented.

When we got to the apartment around 10:00PM last night, we had not internet service.  This morning I found and corrected the problem.  My expertise in computer technology amazes even me!

So, today we will visit with the children in the feeding center, make some other visits and then do the service tonight.  Josh & Mandi Fortner from Millbrook, AL met us in Atlanta and are our traveling companions this week.  It is always good to be with them.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 1/18/16

Today’s Bible reading: Genesis 19-21

Tuesday, January 19 Genesis 22-24
Wednesday, January 20 Genesis 25-26
Thursday, January 21 Genesis 27-29
Friday, January 22 Genesis 30-31
Saturday, January 23 Genesis 32-34
Sunday, January 24 Genesis 35-37

Dale & Karla Bosarge’s daughter, Harper, will have surgery early this morning.  As young parents, they are concerned about her being put to sleep which is a very normal concern.  Pray that all goes well.

Rob Nevin’s stepmother, Nancy Rayner, passed from this life yesterday.  If I understood Reb correctly, the service will take place this Saturday, 1/23, in Georgia.  Pray for the family.

Rick Bradley’s paternal Aunt, Bonnie Freeman, also passed from this life yesterday.  Her service will take place tomorrow in Waynesboro, Mississippi.  Pray for the family.

Louis Reyer remains in the hospital.  He was said to be some better yesterday.  I will visit him this morning to get an update.

Deanna Crawley was discharged from the hospital yesterday.

I believe I am correct in saying that Sarah Thornton will be admitted to the hospital tomorrow for a couple of days.

Nolan Brannan told me yesterday that his father, Gerald, is not doing well.  He is in a convalescent facility for the time being.

Brian Amonett continues to do very well in his recovery.

Good services yesterday.  We had folks who were “out of pocket” with the long weekend but I am very thankful to those who continue to be faithful.  Nice attendance last night.  God is good!

Lazaro, Glendy, Lester & Marsha Suruy moved into their new apartment this past Saturday.  Many thanks to each person who helped make this apartment a reality.

As it stands this morning, all seventy five of the children involved in the feeding center are sponsored for 2016.  Many thanks to each sponsor!

There will be RA basketball games in the CAB all day today.  You can contact Bro. Chris for a schedule.

Watched maybe four minutes of the Steelers v Broncos game yesterday.  I thought Peyton looked bad but I am told they won so that is all that matters in the end.  It “looks” like the Panthers will win it all.  When does college Spring ball begin?

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

SUNDAY, 1/17/16

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 16 – 18

Because of my commitment to Upward basketball yesterday, I did not visit the hospitals so I do not have an update on Louis Reyer or Deanna Crawley.  I will get one today.

Reb Nevin sent me a text during the night saying that she & Rob are heading to Georgia.  Rob’s dad called and told them that now is the time.  They have been waiting on that call before leaving.  Pray for Miss Nancy, the medical staff, Rob’s dad, and the family.

Bill Kendrick sent me an e-mail and a picture of Brian eating steak.  Bill & Debbie took a steak to the hospital for Brian.  He continues to do extremely well in his rehab.  Praise the Lord!

Regular schedule this morning i.e. 8:00AM worship, 9:15 Sunday School, 10:30AM worship.  Regular schedule this evening i.e. 5:00PM Discipleship Training, 6:00PM worship.  I am praying for a large number of the Friendship family to be faithful to these opportunities to gather together as a church family.

Three boys at the feeding center in Guatemala remain in need of a sponsor.  We had four but one received a sponsor around midnight last night.  These remaining three will get sponsored.  That is not a concern.  The only question I have is, “are you supposed to be that sponsor for one of these boys?”  If so, you had better obey rather quickly.  We do not plan to add any others until next January at the earliest.  Let me know.  First come, first served.

Not a big NFL fan but did watch the two playoff games off and on last night.  Are you kidding me?  The amazing pass by Green Bay to send the game into overtime and then Larry Fitzgerald goes off?  Wow!  Good stuff!  (Sorry Phillip & Levi – the NFL is still not as entertaining as college football.  Deal with it!)

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 1/16/16

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Today’s Bible reading:  Genesis 12 – 15

Visited Louis Reyer last night as he remains in SICU.  He was awake and alert.  Should be moved to a regular room at some point today.

Visited with Jodi Crawley in the waiting area as she was sitting with Deanna Crawley who remains in ICU.  Deanna will be moved to a regular room as soon as one becomes available.  So, she is obviously much improved too.  Deanna’s mother works out of town and Jodi is a faithful Aunt.

Upward basketball today from 8:00AM – 4:00PM.  Somehow, the “committee” has assigned me five consecutive games of officiating.  I am about more than double any of their ages yet they stand in the concession stand and eat while I call games?

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.

Worked on mission trip stuff and the child sponsorships all of yesterday morning.  As it stands right now, we have five boys in need of a sponsor.  Interested?  Contact me personally as soon as possible.  They will not be available long, I promise.

I mowed a good portion of our yard yesterday afternoon.  You say, “big deal!”  I agree except this time I did it solely with our push mower.  There is a huge difference between using a twenty horsepower zero turn riding mower with a sixty inch cut and a one mule power push mower with a twenty one inch cut!  Think of all that weight I lost!  You probably will not even recognize me in the morning!

Well, it is 4:30AM and Lisa is screaming at me to get to Walmart to buy groceries!  That is the good news.  The bad news is that she is going with me!  LOL!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 1/15/16

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Today’s Bible reading:  Job 40 – 42

Bro. Louis Reyer did well through his procedure yesterday.  They inflated his lung(s) and put in a substance that is supposed to adhere to the ribs and lungs thereby causing the lung(s) to not collapse.  (I appreciate Bro. Kerry sitting with the family during that procedure as I had a cough that would not stop yesterday so I did not want to be around the hospital)  Bro. Louis was placed on a vent and is in ICU but should be moved to a room today if I understand correctly.

Deanna Crawley, daughter of Michael & Alisia, was placed in ICU yesterday.  Her sugar count was dangerously high.

Debbie Kendrick sent a message yesterday saying that Brian is doing extremely well in his physical therapy.  Scheduled to be moved to a rehab facility on 1/29.  He and the family are grateful.

Lisa and I attended the visitation with the Dot Gore family last night.  Mrs. Gore is Lynn Brewer’s mother.  Miss Vinnie Brewer is Lynn’s mother-in-law.  The service will take place today in Wayne County, Mississippi.

When yesterday started, we had twelve children at the feeding center needing sponsors.  This morning that number stands at three boys.  Interested?  Contact me via e-mail immediately.  First come, first served.  By the way, I need to hear from the folks who are presently sponsors to confirm your intent to continue in that ministry role.

Upward basketball tomorrow from 8:00AM until 4:00PM.  Pray for this ministry.

Had a guy contact me yesterday to tell me that our blog readership remains in  double digits as he reads maybe twice a year.  Not so fast my friend!  He is not considered a “blog reader!”  We may only have nine or so blog readers but they are faithful as in every day!  I was insulted and told that guy to move over to Pastor Jack Bailey’s blog!

Lisa and I went to a local restaurant last night after attending the visitation.  We were “joined” by a certain Pentecostal pastor, his wife, their son and his wife.  Guess who got stuck with the tab?  I will just say that all of the Pentecostals left the restaurant with the same amount of money in their pocket as when they walked into the restaurant.  I am ok with that – really am.  Just did not understand the “to go” orders!  Who was the pastor?  You know that I cannot say!  Have not seen him since our joint service and would not want to embarrass him or his worship leader son!  Felt like I had been out to eat with Pastor Shirlon and Jennifer!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 1/14/16

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Today’s Bible reading:  Job 38 – 39

The procedure on Louis Reyer did not take place yesterday.  It is now scheduled for today.

Terry Brooks was discharged from the hospital yesterday.  I suspect it will be a really long time before he goes back to the doctor and/or hospital.

Miss Annie Rogers has been moved to a convalescent home.

Rob’s mother remains in the hospital.

Brian Amonett continues to receive therapy in a hospital and will eventually move to a rehab facility.

Dale & Karla’s manager had surgery this week.  We learned last night that he is between 30 – 70 years of age.  (I am going with Karla on this one!)

If you are a member of the Friendship family and want to sponsor a child in the feeding center ministry then you had better move quickly as in today.  Presently, we have ten children needing sponsors but we have two churches asking for names.  Just saying!  If you already sponsor a child and have not let me know that you going to continue, please do so as soon as possible.

Good news – we may still be in double digits as far as our blog readership is concerned as I heard from David & Sandra McElwee along with Gene & Gena Davis yesterday.  They are still readers.  Awesome!   Have not heard from Mike & Janice Moreland so I am thinking the “home” has no internet access!

“Brent” Henry – seriously?  (Dr. Rex, please contact that lady!)

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.
