TUESDAY, 12/19/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Katie Tillman sent me an apology profusely apologizing for the lateness of yesterday’s entry.  She asked to me to apologize to all thirteen of our blog readers.  What she did not know is that our readership is now down to twelve.  Learned on Sunday that one of the folks I thought was a faithful reader no longer reads the blog.  What is up with that?  Do I look like Jack Bailey?  By the way, I extended forgiveness to Katie.  She is a sweet girl.  Now her Mama on the other hand. . . .

Edwina Perkins remains in the hospital.  She has been there since 12/1.  I will visit today to get an update.  Keep praying for Edwina.

Not sure if Courtney Hubbard was discharged from the hospital or not.  I do know she needs our prayer support.

Well, tomorrow is the day!  Rita Broome will be admitted to the hospital tonight and then will give birth to their baby at some point tomorrow (she could obviously give birth at some point today)   Excited for Randall, Rita and their family.  Pray that all goes well.  Randall & Rita are such an important part of the Friendship family and are involved in so many ministries.  What a blessing!

The Friendship family is on a regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  I hope we will be faithful.

Also, our morning schedule this Sunday, 12/24, will be normal with the two worship services and Sunday School.  Our buses will be running their routes too.  We may be the only church having a normal schedule this Sunday but I have never set our schedule based on what any other church family is doing.  I cannot think of a better Sunday for followers of Jesus to meet for worship.

Our annual Christmas Eve service will begin at 5:00PM and will end no later than 6:00PM.  I am praying for a standing room only crowd (cannot say SRO as the blonde readers struggle with what does that even mean).  What a great family tradition – attend this special service together as a family.

Props to Glenda Chinners for coordinating our Angel Tree this year.  She has had many helpers and I am grateful to each of them. These families will be in our Christmas Eve service and will hear the Gospel.  “Faith comes by hearing!”  Also, thank you to each person/family/class that has purchased the gifts.

A quick look ahead – the church office will be closed on Monday, 12/25.  Bro. Jerry will be on vacation next week but I will be in town and working each day.

It was cookie baking night at our place last night which meant all seven of the tornadoes were present.  I found my office to be a nice hideaway during most of that time!  Just saying!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 12/18/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

This post is way late.  I apologize.  Why is it late?  Two words – Katie Tillman!

What a blessed day we enjoyed in our services yesterday.  Deidra did an adequate job of sharing about SLAM in our morning services.  Soy did an outstanding job with the video.  Jeanette Bates and our adult choir did a wonderful job of sharing the Gospel in song last night.  They had a huge assist from Tony Gettig.  I very much appreciate Jeanette, the choir members, the stage decorators, the sound/video guys and anyone else who had a part in that service.  By the way, I thought the trio did well on “I Have Seen The Light” to close out the service.

This Sunday, 12/24, will see us have a regular schedule on Sunday morning meaning 8:00AM worship, 9:15AM Sunday School & 10:30AM worship.  Our annual Christmas Eve service will begin at 5:00PM and will be dismissed absolutely no later than 6:00PM.  Folks, the church building should be full this Sunday simply because it is Christmas Eve!

Visited with Edwina Perkins this morning.  She was in hopes of going home today but that “may” not happen has she has gotten an infection.  If they choose to give her oral antibiotics maybe she can still be discharged.  She is so ready to go home!  Pray for Edwina.

Visited with Sarah Thornton too and she is going home today.  Obviously, she is doing very well.  Pray that all continues to go well for her.

Bobby Broome and Ann Clark’s sister passed from this life on Friday.  The visitation and service will take place this afternoon in Beaumont, MS.  Lisa and I will be leaving very soon to attend the service.  Pray for the family.

Edd Gillespie told me in the early service yesterday that he expects to receive call from someone at the Anderson Clinic early this week.  Keep praying for Edd.

Larry Whitehurst “may” be leaning toward going to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.  Nothing in concrete yet.  Pray for wisdom.

Keep praying for Courtney Hubbard.  She remains in the hospital but “may” go home today.

My cousin’s flight from Mobile scheduled for this morning  was cancelled last night.  He was rebooked out of Gulfport and that flight got delayed.  He will now fly into Chicago via Houston and then rent a car to drive home.  I am sorry for all of the travel disruptions he has encountered on this trip.  He did a great job last night.  The dude is good!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 12/16/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

First, will you pray that my cousin, Tony Gettig, can get out of Kalamazoo and into Mobile today?  He got “snowed in” before ever leaving last night and is presently on his way with a very tight connecting flight in Houston.  If all goes as scheduled, he will arrive in Mobile at 1:13PM.  If he does not arrive as scheduled, what is Jeanette going to do?  (She should have thought of all of this!)

Sarah Thornton’s surgery was deemed successful by her doctor.  He was confident he was able to remove all of the mass.  He thinks it is malignant but also feels confident it was contained in that one area.  Pray that he is correct.  Sarah will be in the hospital for a day or two.

Edwina Perkins looked and sounded well yesterday morning.  She hopes to be discharged either tomorrow or Monday.

Bobby Broome and Ann Clark had a sister, Beatrice, pass from this life yesterday morning.  She was ninety six years old.  Arrangements pending.  Pray for the family.

Gena Davis put a comment on yesterday’s entry.  She continues to have some health issues and they will soon be moving to North Georgia.  Moving out of Texas will help anyone!  Pray for Gene & Gena.  They hope to be in the Mobile area for a few days in early January.  It will be good to see Gena!  (Sommer, get out of Texas while you can!)

Basketball today beginning at 8:00AM.  No basketball for the next two Saturdays.

Bus visitation today beginning with the workers’ meeting at 8:30AM.  Pray for this ministry.

Adult choir rehearsal tonight beginning at 6:00PM.  Did I mention my cousin Tony’s traveling situation?

Handful of college football games today.  Troy plays.  Really surprised that their coach, Neal Brown, did not get hired by a bigger program as he has done a really nice job at Troy.  If Brown leaves Troy, look for Coach Collier to receive consideration for the Troy job.  (They cannot pay him what he will demand!).

Our house has been empty for the past two days as everyone is riding a train in their pajamas in Calera, Alabama.  Folks, riding a train in your pajamas is just weird!  My point is that the heat in this house has been off which is great!  (Deidra has been about to burn me up this past week!)  It is a balmy sixty three degrees in here this morning – so nice!  (By the way, when Deidra is paying the bill she is stingy with the thermostat but when dad is paying she does not care!)

The Beasley boys had another concert last night.  My sources, which are impeccable, tell me that Dr. Rex stole the show again.  Well, at least the Beasley boys can dream.

Regular schedule for the Friendship family tomorrow morning.  Adult choir musical at 6:00PM.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 12/15/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

This entry is way late and for that I apologize.  My sincerest apologies to Dr. Rex.  I am sitting in a surgery waiting room as Sarah Thornton is in surgery as I type this at 9:00AM.  Pray for Sarah as they remove one of her kidneys and a tumor.  The doctor told the family that he fully expects this procedure to take care of the tumor with nothing else being necessary.  Sarah will be in the hospital for at least a day or two.

Visited with Edwina Perkins this morning and she is in a regular room and is doing well.  She “thinks” she may go home Sunday or Monday if all goes as planned.  Pray for Edwina.  Her sister from Texas will be either Sunday or Monday and that makes Edwina happy.

Not sure if Courtney Hubbard was discharged from the hospital yesterday.  I communicated with her via iMessage and she was in good spirits.  Keep praying for Courtney and her family.

Had a couple of folks order some of Tony’s coffee yesterday.  I do need to know if you want beans or for it to be grounded.  Also, need to hear from anyone else wanting to order a twelve ounce bag of coffee for twelve dollars.  Please send me an e-mail by noon today.  You can check out his coffee at vanburencoffee.com.  Tony is scheduled to arrive in Mobile tonight.

Well, I survived the trip to Huntsville yesterday/last night.  Was able to spend about five hours with Mama.  Also got to see Sue, Jamie, Grayson, Jace & S.

Lisa and I attended the Beasley Boys Christmas concert last night on the campus of UAH.  Actually, they were simply the opening act for Rex Looney as he dominated the show.  Here is the proof – after the concert there were numerous “Beasley Boys” t-shirts for sale.  However, by the time I got to the merchandise table there were zero Rex Looney t-shirts for sale.  True story.

Gina and I dropped Lisa off in Birmingham and kept driving.  Gina is a carbon copy of her mother as she slept all the way home!  Provided no help at all!  From 9:30PM until 3:30AM I was flying solo!  I am thankful to God for His traveling mercies.

Regular schedule this Sunday morning.  Adult choir musical Sunday night beginning at 6:00PM.  Hope many members of the Friendship family will be in attendance.

One more thing – one of our young ladies asked me for specifics for our annual Christmas Eve service this year.  I told her it was at 5:00PM as always.  Her reply – “well I did not know since Christmas Eve is on Christmas Eve this year!”  True story!  Who?  Will not say!  She knows!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 12/14/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Once again, Edwina Perkins was sitting in a chair when I visited yesterday afternoon.  She looked good and was in hopes of being moved to a regular room.  I do not know if that happened.  Bro. Jerry will visit her today.

Dollie Trout was discharged from the hospital yesterday shortly after noon.  I called Bob and they had just gotten in the vehicle heading home.

Lisa and I visited with Coach Hubbard and his daughter, Maura Kay, yesterday afternoon.  (Talk about Little Courtney – wow!)  Courtney remains in the hospital but is hopeful of being discharged today.

Sarah Thornton is scheduled to have surgery in the morning around 7:00AM.  Pray that all goes well.

Edd Gillespie continues to wait on a call from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Clinic.  He is sitting on go!

I am hearing that the annual Christmas party for the residents in the local convalescent home went well last night.  Thank you to each person who helped in any way.

We enjoyed a good day in our services yesterday morning and last night.  Those who were with me in the auditorium are asked to remember their homework assignment!

Today is going to be a long day of traveling for me.  Making a quick trip to Huntsville which will include time visiting with my Mama.  Will drive back tonight in order to be present for Miss Sarah’s surgery in the morning.  Pray for traveling mercies.  (Dr. Rex, the Beasley boys had better be good or I am going to be one upset pastor!).

My cousin, Tony Gettig, will fly in tomorrow night.  He will be doing the narration for our choir musical on Sunday night.  He is a professional.

One quick side note about Tony – he and his brother, Josh, own a coffee roasting company.  He has excellent coffee.  If you are a coffee addict and want to purchase some unique coffee then let me know via e-mail by noon tomorrow.  You can go to vanburencoffee.com to see what coffees they are presently offering.  The price is twelve dollars per twelve ounce bag.  Need a “special” Christmas gift for that coffee drinker in your life?

Lisa and Dana both got their flu shot from Ross Hatcher yesterday.  Dana said it hurt “bad” and Lisa says she never felt it.  I am thinking that Dana wearing that “Roll Tide” shirt perhaps added to her pain!  Need a flu shot?  Why not visit Ross at Grand Bay Pharmacy?  Ross is a great guy!  Great pharmacist too!

Regular schedule this Sunday morning and the following Sunday morning, 12/24.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 12/13/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Edwina Perkins was sitting in a chair when I visited with her yesterday afternoon.  We had a nice conversation and she realizes that she is very blessed.  Keep praying for Edwina.

Miss Dollie had a device placed in an area around her heart that is designed to keep blood clots from collecting there and then potentially causing a stroke.  It is a relatively new procedure which I had never heard of before yesterday.  She did well.  She “may” be discharged today.  Miss Dollie is a sweet lady. Keep praying for her.

Courtney Hubbard was admitted to the hospital last night.  Her blood count was low.  It is “possible” that she could be discharged today.  Pray for Courtney.

Miss Sarah Thornton is scheduled to have one of her kidneys surgically removed this Friday morning.  Pray that goes well.

Regular schedule this morning and evening.

The special election is over and I am glad!

Looking forward to the adult choir Christmas musical this Sunday evening at 6:00PM.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 12/12/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Miss Dollie Trout will be having a surgical procedure done today.  It is my understanding that this procedure will help prevent her from having a stroke.  Pray that all goes well.

Visited with Edwina Perkins yesterday morning.  She opened her eyes but I am not sure if she knew I was there as she remains on the vent.  I “think” they were going to remove the vent yesterday, if possible.  Edwina has a fairly long road to recovery in front of her.

Visited with Ted Ezell yesterday morning.  He continues to need our prayers too.

Spoke to Edd Gillespie via the phone yesterday.  He is waiting on a call from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to go there for a consultation and probable treatment.  Pray for Edd.

Got a message from Mark Hubbard saying Courtney is basically about the same.  Keep praying for Courtney.

We are on a regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.

Big day in Alabama today as have the opportunity to elect a new Senator.  I encourage folks to pray and then vote.

I am enjoying these cooler temperatures.  So nice!

This is certainly a lull time for me regarding sports.  I have not watched any pro football this year and college football is in a dead period between the end of the regular season and the bowl games & playoffs. I will be glad when the major bowls take place.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 12/11/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Sorry for no entries the past two days.  Got home from Guatemala around 3:30AM on Saturday morning – wow what a day of traveling!  Yesterday was a full day too.

Soy, Deidra and the girls arrived in Grand Bay around 10:30PM on Saturday night.  We are glad they are “home” for a couple of months.

Pastor Jordan & Lana Lollar brought up the rear as far as the GRACE Ministries team getting home as their flight from ATL landed in BHM at 3:30AM and they got back to Ethelsville at 6:00AM – oh my!

Edwina Perkins had heart surgery on Friday afternoon/night which involved five by passes and a valve repair.  She is slowly recovering and hopes to be taken off the ventilator today.  Pray for Edwina.

We had a good day in our services yesterday with two professions of faith in the second morning service. Praise the Lord.  Our preschool and children’s choirs did a nice job in last night’s service.  I appreciate those who work with them.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 12/8/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Good Friday morning from Guatemala.  Nothing really new to report today.  Bo and the baby should be going home from the hospital.  Edwina did not have the cath as I wrote yesterday and not sure when that will happen as she is still having some issues.

The visitation and service for Miss Ica takes place tomorrow morning.  We need someone to step forward to handle the feeding the family ministry as Tina W simply cannot do it from Guatemala.  We need volunteers to cook the food.  Please contact Bro. Jerry Hovel if you are willing to help.  Thank you.

I am still somewhat envious of the weather the folks in South Mobile County are experiencing.  Maybe I will catch the last of it when I get home.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 12/7/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Back in the day, I used to post birthdays but stopped that practice many years ago unless it is immediate family.  I will not go into the reasons.  However, today I am breaking precedent and wishing a very “happy birthday” to Craig Kirschenman!  Craig is no longer able to join us in our services but what a blessing he has been to so many of us for so many years.  You may wonder how I know it is Craig’s birthday?  Because he has only told me like twenty two million times over the years – LOL!

Edwina Perkins did not have a heart cath done yesterday.  She has an issue they want to address before they will do a cath.  She is in good spirits.  Pray for Edwina.

The arrangements have been finalized for Miss Ica Walley.  The visitation with the family will take place this Saturday, 12/9, from 9:00 – 10:00AM at the Heritage Funeral Home on Highway 63 in Moss Point, Mississippi.  The service will begin at 10:00AM.  The Friendship family will be feeding the family in our fellowship hall following the service.  Tina Wilkinson is in Guatemala so we will need someone to coordinate this ministry if not one has already assumed this opportunity.  Contact the church office for more information or to volunteer to help with the food.

Friendship basketball leagues will play again this Saturday beginning at 8:00AM.

The team in Guatemala is now minus four members.  Daphne & our niece, Jamie, left for home yesterday and arrived home safely.  Stephanie Bryant & Betty Creech left this morning and should be home this afternoon.  Thanks to Willard Garnett for taking them to the airport at 3:00AM – beyond the call of duty!

The team is having an excellent week.  The program put on by the children at the feeding center yesterday was precious – Tina W cried!  The block party for those children was a blast.  Everyone on the team is doing great.  More details later.

I am away and the folks in South Mobile County are enjoying my kind of weather – not fair!  Temperatures in the low forties during the day with rain – perfect!  Oh well, it is what it is!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.
