WEDNESDAY, 8/31/11

Warren Guidry bats lead off in the surgery line up today.  It is almost 4:30AM and I am about to leave to go pray with him before his shoulder surgery.  Pray that everything will go well.

Herbert Benefield has to be at the hospital at 8:00AM but his surgery time is not known.  He does know that he is number four on the list.  Hopefully, they will get him in this morning but. . . .   Pray for the surgery to go well.

John Meredith remains in need of our prayers but the doctor does seem to be making progress in helping John.  He does not have an UTI but does have an infection.  He still has his “friend” (catheter) with him and that makes John an unhappy camper.  Pray for John & Arlene.  John really hopes to come back to Alabama tomorrow but. . . .

Heard yesterday that Mr. Byron Skelton is physically low.  This is Belinda’s father-in-law.  He is at home.  Pray for Mr. & Mrs. Skelton and the family.

Thanks to Trish for the comment on yesterday’s blog entry.  The baby is home.  Keep praying regarding the hole in his heart.

We are on a regular schedule today with the morning service and evening activities.  Hope to see many members of the Friendship family in attendance.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 8/31/11

Arlene Meredith made it safely to South Carolina.  As she was traveling, John went back to the Urgent Care and they catheterized him.  I spoke to Arlene yesterday afternoon as they were in the doctor’s office.  Pray that they can find the right medicines to get John through this ordeal.

Keep praying for Larry & Trish’s grandson.  It appeared yesterday that they may have to move him to a more specialized hospital but I do not know if that happened or not.

Herbert Benefield and Warren “Blo Joe” Guidry are scheduled to have surgery tomorrow.  I know Blo Joe’s is early but I am not sure about the timing of Herbert’s.  Pray for them.

The GROW meal takes place tonight beginning at 6:30PM.  You are invited.  Seafood is involved as in the Baptist bird.  Call Bro. Jerry if you have questions or need more information.

Speaking of food, we are going to have a church wide fellowship this Sunday, 9/4, beginning at 5:00PM.  Food details will come tomorrow.  Dale Bosarge will be doing the ministering beginning around 6:00PM.  All of this will take place in the CAB.  Make plans to join us.

I had the opportunity to attend the revival service at San Souci Baptist Church last night.  Bro. Robbie is the Pastor and Bro. Randy Byrd is the evangelist for the week.  Les Hacker was in attendance too.  It was good to see Pastor & Mrs. Johnny Howard.  Gilbert Emerson was there and sang a song.  Good service.

I watched a little of the NFL game last night but I am so not interested simply because it is time for some “real” football to begin!  Kent State versus Bama on Saturday morning.  Does it get any better than this?  Cannot believe this is the first time these two powerhouse teams have actually met on the field.  Duron is in the house and that should be good news for Bama!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 8/29/11 (Updated)

Wow!  God, in His goodness, continues to bless the Friendship family with some awesome services.  Yesterday was no exception as we experienced a sweet spirit, saw six additions, had one follow in believer’s baptism, and had a great attendance in all of our services.  We praise Him for His blessings!  He gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

Yes, it was hot in the auditorium last night as one of the ac units froze up.  I appreciate your understanding regarding this matter.  Plus, it was hot outside.

As far as I know, Arlene Meredith made it to South Carolina late last night.  Pray for John as she will see the doctor today.  He is a very sick man.  Thanks to Bro. Jerry Whitmore for his help in getting Arlene to SC.  Also, to Deanna Rhyne and the others who volunteered to help with the dogs.

Adam & Amanda Blackwell welcomed a son, Xavier Liam, into this world on August 23.  He is having jaundice problems and has a hole in his heart.  He was placed back in the hospital yesterday afternoon.  Of course, the grandparents are Larry & Trish Blackwell.  Pray for this baby.

Amy Huhn’s mother continues in her battle against cancer.  Carla Kyser has another treatment this Thursday.  Herbert Benefield (knee) and Warren Guidry (shoulder) will both have surgery on Wednesday.  Brenda Timberlake will have a heart cath on Thursday.  Bill & Debbie Kendrick’s daughter in Alaska is having some health issues too.  (Did learn this week that Bill’s son is a believer!)

Joey Switzer has a good friend who passed away on Saturday after suffering injuries in a four wheeler accident.  Pray for that family.

“Church member of the week” goes to Karla Cooper simply because she heeded my request to park farther away to help alleviate the parking problems we are experiencing.  She moved one space away from where she normally parks!  Me?  Parked behind the storage container yesterday morning so far away that I should have just walked from the house.  Last night I had to park illegally just to help the parking dilemma.  Can you say “tongue in cheek” in awarding this honor?

If anyone sees August of 2011, please tell it that I said “hello!”  I must have missed it because it is gone!  However, the college football season begins this Thursday night.  Of course, the “real” season begins around 11:20AM this Saturday!  I am ready!

I pray that you will have a blessed Monday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 8/27/11

Received an e-mail from Arlene Meredith around 1:15PM today saying that John has been in an Urgent Care Center for several hours today.  He has a severe UTI and, after being on an IV for a while, was sent back to his apartment with strong antibiotics and told to see the Urologist Monday morning.  He is having chills along with his pain.

Obviously, John is in Charleston, SC without any family members there.  Pray for him there and Arlene here.

Bill Kendrick sent an e-mail to say that Debbie’s mother came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  She still has a way to go in her recovery but at least this is a step in the right direction.

Hurrican Irene is already responsible for four deaths and one million folks are without electricity.  Pray for those who are yet in the storm’s path.

Go to church tomorrow.

FRIDAY, 8/26/11

Bro. Jerry sent me an e-mail last night to say that Pastor Charles Couey of Indian Springs Baptist Church in Eight Mile is in the ICU in a local hospital.  They have discovered a tumor in/on his brain.  Bro. Charles has been at Indian Springs for a very, very long time.  This is where Tena went to church and her parents are still faithful members.  Pray for Pastor Couey.

Bro. Jerry also told me that Larry Barnes’ father is in a local hospital.  Larry is Tena’s brother-in-law and he has been attending our 8:00AM worship services.  Pray for Mr. Barnes.

Mrs. Amonett remains hospitalized as does Greg Boutwell’s brother, David.  Pray for these folks too.

Bro. Benny McGath will be preaching at the Mission of Hope tonight.  You are invited to that service which begins at 7:00PM.  The bus leaves our church at 6:15PM if you want to ride.  (I just hope Carl Ray does not go by Joey Switzer’s place with the bus or we will end up with four more new tires!)

College football is almost here – yes!

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.  Go to church!

THURSDAY, 8/25/11

Debbie Kendrick’s mother, Mrs. Amonett, remains hospitalized but is recovering from her surgery of this past Sunday.  Keep praying for her.

Bernard & Pattie have taken Gage to Birmingham as he is having problems.  Randy Tran had surgery and is home recovering. Pray for these young men.

Learned last night that Bob Henley is having difficulty walking but will not go to the doctor.  He actually missed the truckstop ministry this past Sunday and that never happens.  Pray for Bob!

Tony Hacker was in our service last night and is mending.  Larry Whitehurst said the doctor he consulted with this week feels that Larry made the right choice by not having radiation treatments.  (I think Larry really liked him simply because the doctor told him that he was “smart” and Larry has never had anyone tell him that before!)  Anna Carol Bosarge had another root canal done yesterday and, hopefully, this will end this set of problems.  Carla Kyser is set for another radiation treatment a week from today.  Pray for these folks.

Gerald Poiroux had an Aunt to pass away and that funeral service will be held today.  Pray for the family.

Sickness and death are certainly no respecters of persons.  Read during the night where Steve Jobs has resigned as the CEO of Apple.  He has a sickness that has caused him to take three leaves of absence in recent years.  He is only 56 years old.  Mike Flanagan was a MLB pitcher.  He was found dead yesterday morning at the age of 59.  My point is that we never know what a day holds.

We had another blessed day in our services yesterday.  My day ended with 30 something young adults gathered for Bible study in our house.  We thank God for His blessings!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 8/24/11

We are on a “normal” schedule today with our morning service at 10:00AM followed by the various Bible studies/classes at 7:00PM.  Our young adults gather in our house at 8:00PM for food and a Bible study.  I hope that many members of the Friendship family will join us for one of these Bible studies/classes.

Our first night of a new session of GROW visitation began last night.  I am not sure how many folks took part as I went in briefly before going out to make two visits.  All folks involved in GROW are invited to attend a meal next Tuesday, 8/30, to “officially” kick off this new session.  You can contact Bro. Jerry for the details.

Folks are signing up for the Summer of 2012 GRACE trips at a good clip.  Remember, we are allowing members of the Friendship family to sign up first (through September) and we will then open those three trips to folks outside the Friendship family.  Lord willing, I will lead a team in June & July while Bro. Jerry will lead one in July.  Forms are in the foyer of the auditorium for those wishing to sign up.

It is just a game but I am so ready for the college football season to begin.  I have enjoyed watching some of the LLWS but I am just not a huge baseball fan.  NFL?  Could take it or leave it!  College football and basketball are the best!  Soccer?  Please!  However, I do plan to be at the Stan Hatcher Soccer Complex this Saturday to watch some (can you say five seconds?) of the action between the Spanish folks and “Soy’s boys!”

Speaking of Bama football, I have access to four tickets (2 & 2) for Bama’s first game.  The cost is face value which is $45.  Interested?  Let me know by tonight.  It is an early kick off and it will be hot!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 8/23/11

Rita Boutwell told me last night that Greg’s brother, David, fell and broke his hip.  He was so close to going home after many months of being in the hospital and rehab facility.  Pray for him physically as well as emotionally.

Larry Whitehurst was supposed to have seen the neurologist again yesterday for a consultation.  I have not talked to Larry yet about the advice he received from this doctor.

No real changes in the others mentioned in yesterday’s entry.  Pray for those battling cancer.

It now appears Hurricane Irene will miss most of the US mainland but could hit North Carolina on Sunday.  It is forecast to be a major hurricane as it makes landfall.  Pray that it will turn more easterly and simply go back into the Atlantic.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 8/22/11

Wow – what a  great Sunday!  The Lord blessed and we saw two professions of faith and two join the Friendship family on statement.  The spirit was excellent and the attendance in all three services was very, very good.  We give God the glory!

Thank you to those from the Friendship family who attended the 2:00PM service yesterday.  We are now into our third year of ministering to the Spanish folks in our community.  We thank God for all He has done through that ministry up to this point.  I thank God for those involved on a regular basis in this ministry too.

Debbie Kendrick’s mother had emergency surgery yesterday morning.  She had her gall bladder removed and it was huge.  She is in ICU but did very well.  Pray for her as she recovers from this surgery.

Leasa Salter remains hospitalized but should go home today.  Tony Hacker continues to recover at home.  As far as I know, Belinda Skelton came home from the hospital on Saturday.  Lisa and I visited her on Friday and that was the plan.  Lane Lofton did well through his surgery and is recovering at home too.  Pray for these folks as well as those battling cancer.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 8/19/11

Lane Lofton will have his tonsils removed this morning and will spend at least one night in the hospital.  Pray that all goes well for him during this surgery.

I was at Keesler AFB before 6:00AM yesterday and had to go through the “process” to get on base.  (Finally had to drop Curtis Taylor’s name just to get on base)  Was able to pray with Belinda Skelton before her surgery and then I stayed with the family for about three hours.  The surgery had just begun when I left and it was expected to be lengthy.  I have not gotten a report but will be going back today to visit with Belinda.  Pray for Belinda.

Leasa Salter also had surgery yesterday and will be hospitalized for several days.  They think Tena Hovel’s dad, Mr. Alford, has an UTI and are running tests.

Received an e-mail from Karen McGriff yesterday regarding Summer.  She is on the mend as they have gotten her meds adjusted to help her.  Keep praying for Summer in her recovery.

Talked to Tony Hacker yesterday afternoon and he is doing well in his recovery.  Actually, he is milking this thing big time!  Pray for Dawn!

The final team of the Summer of 2011 leaves Guatemala today headed back to Holland, Michigan.  Pray that they will have safety in travel.   From what I hear, it appears they have had a great week of ministry.  Our staff in Guatemala can now take a breath as the house is vacant until October.  We praise God for His goodness!

Our good friends, Tom & Shari Compagner, will be in Grand Bay this weekend.  We are looking forward to spending time with them.  Lord willing, they will be in our services on Sunday.

We will celebrate the second anniversary of our Spanish ministry this Sunday afternoon, 8/21, at 2:00PM.  Everyone is invited to join us for this special time.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus!  Go to church!
