WEDNESDAY, 6/30/10

Bro. Chris sent me a text around 9:30PM last night saying that Jonathan Stork was doing better.  His parents had arrived at the hospital and Bro. Chris was returning to camp.  The doctor says Jonathan will be hospitalized for a few more days.  Keep praying for him.

I spoke to Janice Smith last night and she had a pretty tough day yesterday.  Those of you who have been where she is know that it is the first of many so keep praying for Janice & the girls.

I didn’t get an update on Coley’s mom, Steve Lewis, Dottie Fore, or Susan Quinn.  I am thinking Steve went home from the hospital.

Lisa tells me that Brianne Woods is doing a super job as a part of the Wild Week camp.  Of course, Lisa & I are very partial to Bre – what a sweetheart!

Alisha Vice is doing a regular blog entry.  It can be read at alishvice.blogspot.com.  Soy & Deidra should be leaving for the Philippines today/tonight.  Soy calls around bedtime each night asking me to tell him a nighty night story!

I am not a huge baseball fan but I did watch the last few inning of the CWS last night (didn’t want Becky Hatcher to get ahead of me!).  Go SC and SEC!  I was pulling for South Carolina because they are from the SEC.  I did not realize until afterwards that was the university’s first major sport championship ever!  If only Kentucky would’ve won the basketball championship then the SEC would have claimed all three major championships this year.  (Jack Ciak, sorry but women’s basketball isn’t major!)

Normal Wednesday here with the morning service and evening activities.  Hope to see many members of the Friendship family in attendance.   Obviously, our student ministry numbers will be way down due to Wild Week.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

UPDATE ON JONATHAN STORK

It is now 8:25AM and I spoke to Bro. Chris via the phone a few minutes ago.  Jonathan is in PICU.  His parents are in the process of getting their things ready in order to drive to be with him.  Pray for traveling mercies for them.

Also, I spoke to Bobby Stork and he was able to tell me that Jonathan is the grandson of Pastor Wendell Stork – Eastside Assembly of God in Pascagoula, MS.

I will post an update if there are any changes.  Keep praying!

TUESDAY, 6/29/10

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST – it is 6:50AM and I just spoke to Bro. Chris.  One of our students attending camp is a diabetic and he is having some serious problems with his blood sugar.  They have taken him to the local hospital in Carlinville, IL and have now decided to transport him via helicopter to a hospital in Springfield.  His name is Jonathan Stork and he is 14 years of age.  His mother is aware of the situation and is waiting on word from Bro. Chris.  Pray without ceasing!

I received an e-mail from Eula Mae yesterday afternoon.  Susan Quinn remains hospitalized and is not getting good reports from the doctor.  Eula Mae & Edwin came home Sunday night as Edwin doesn’t do so well outside of his normal element.  Eula Mae has an awful lot on her plate.  Diane, Susan’s sister, is flying to SC tomorrow to be with Susan.  Pray!

Steve Lewis had his defibrillator replaced yesterday.  If the x-ray proves okay this morning then he will go home.  On Saturday afternoon, his old defibrillator shocked him 15 times!  It was on a recall list but they had checked Steve’s and told him it was okay – famous last words!

Coley Johnson’s mother, Cindy, is in an ICU but did well through her surgery.  She is on a ventilator so she will not have to labor to breathe.  I would imagine she will be hospitalized for several days.

Dottie Fore remains at home in a low state.  Keep praying for Barbara and the family.

I so appreciate the folks who attended the visitations/services for Gwen Lambert & Billy Bon Smith yesterday.  Some funerals take a toll on me emotionally and Billy’s is in that number.  Keep praying for Melissa & her family along with Janice & her family.  Thank you to each person who helped with the food for either family.  They expressed their profound thanks!

BTW, Ted Ezell was at Billy’s service.  He looked good and was glad to be out.

We serve a good God!  Last night, He afforded me the opportunity to make a visit and listen as someone prayed to receive Jesus as their personal Savior.  I needed that!  Lord willing, that person will be making a public decision this Sunday morning and will also be following Jesus in believer’s baptism.  We will baptize following the 8:00 & 10:30AM services this Sunday, 7/4.

Again, pray for Jonathan Stork!  I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 6/28/10

This is going to be a full day as it begins with Coley Johnson’s mother, Cindy, having surgery this morning followed by Steve Lewis having surgery a bit later in the day.  Bro. Kerry is covering those surgeries.

The visitation with the Lambert family (Melissa Brown) begins at 11:00AM until the noon service time.  The visitation with the Billy Smith family begins at noon until the 2:00PM service time.  Pray for those respective families.

Kevin Vice had a niece, Carol Stewart, pass away last week and there will be a memorial service for her this Thursday.  She was 34 years old.

Pastor Terry Cutrer’s (Moffett Road Baptist) father, J.D., passed away last week and his service will take place today at 11:00AM.  I was able to visit with Pastor Terry last night following our evening service.  Pray for Pastor Terry as he preaches his dad’s service.

Miss Dottie Fore continues to weaken physically.  Earl Gunter’s sister-in-law (Bill’s wife) has been diagnosed with leukemia and is in the hospital.  Pattie told me yesterday that Gage is still having to take the steroids because of balance issues.  Susan Quinn is getting less than desirable reports from the doctor.  Ted Ezell remains in rehab.  Jack Sims is at home recovering from his surgery.

Our students arrived safely at Wild Week yesterday afternoon.  They had the first service last night and there were several salvation decisions.  One of our students will be traveling today to join them for the rest of the week.  Pray that this will be a time of spiritual renewal within the lives of our students.

This coming Sunday, 7/4, will see us have our 8:00 & 10:30AM worship services only.  We will not have Sunday School or any evening activities and the buses will not be running their routes on Sunday morning.  There will be no afternoon service either.

There are openings on the next two GRACE trips – July 15 – 22 (Bro. Jerry) & July 22 – 29 (Pastor).  Interested persons should contact either Bro. Jerry or me.

Well, Nick Whistlebritches finally asked the question.  Kaily Genzink called last night to tell me that they are officially engaged to be married next June.  Congratulations to Nick & Kaily!

I am flying solo this week as Lisa and the girls are at camp.  I don’t really like being by myself but it is what it is!

Hope you have a great Monday with Jesus.

BILLY BON SMITH ENTERS HEAVEN

I write with a very heavy heart this morning as I just came from visiting with Miss Janice Smith and her daughter, Gayle Thornton.  Billy Bon Smith passed away shortly before 8:00PM of an apparent heart attack or blood clot.  He was sitting in his recliner and had just spoken to Miss Janice.  She walked away to enter another room and he was gone to Heaven.  Billy was 70 years old.

In all probability the service will take place on Monday but nothing has been finalized.  I will post here once the arrangements are complete.

Pray for Janice, Gayle, Debra and the entire family.

SATURDAY, 6/26/10

The wedding last night was very nice.  The Lambert family must now turn their attention to making arrangements for the funeral service for Gwen.  Pray for them as they go through this process.  I will post the arrangements here once they have been finalized.

Bro. Chris & 80 others will leave at 2:00AM headed for Wild Week in Illinois.  They are scheduled to return home late Thursday night, 7/1.  Pray that they will have safety in travel and a great week spiritually.

Bro. Robbie will be in Shreveport, LA tomorrow preaching.  Pray for him as he travels and then as he preaches the Word.

I got word that Susan Blackmon Quinn is not doing so well.  I don’t know all of the details but do ask that you pray for her.  You can also read Pattie’s comments regarding Gage’s situation and a prayer request for her niece.

We are on a regular schedule for tomorrow.  Obviously, with 81 folks gone our numbers will be down but I pray that each member of the Friendship family in town will be in his/her rightful place.

Alisha Vice posted on her blog and all is well in Kenya.  Soy & Deidra are having a good time in China and were scheduled to visit Lottie Moon’s church yesterday.  You can read past comments from Eddie as to Soy’s condition.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 6/25/10

Sorry for not posting yesterday morning but it just sort of slipped through the cracks.

As I got home a little after 11:00PM last night, I received word that Melissa Brown’s sister, Gwen, had passed away.  I just spoke to Melissa via the phone.  The family is devastated.  Gwen was 38 years old.  Pray for the Lambert family.

The wedding of Kayla, Keith & Melissa’s daughter, and Matt WILL take place tonight at 7:00PM.  The family has discussed this and, while it was a difficult decision, they feel this is how it should be.  Please pray for the family as they celebrate while having heavy hearts.

Barbara Kelley’s mother continues to weaken.  It seems she has lost the will to live since her husband passed earlier this year.

Jack Sims is doing well in his recovery.  He had four by passes instead of the three planned.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 6/23/10

Jack Sims had his surgery yesterday and Bro. Jerry said there were a lot of folks present to support the family.  I am “assuming” all went well but do not know that for a certainty.

David & Vera Bosarge’s brother-in-law, Arthur “Flat” McRoy passed away yesterday.  We have had him on our prayer list for months.  Pray for the family.

Ted Ezell remains in rehab.  Dottie Fore, Barbara’s mother, continues to weaken physically.  Barbara is doing better in her recovery.  Doris Leach may go home from the hospital today.  Fannie Fortenberry was put in the hospital Saturday night but I don’t know if she is still there.

Soy & Deidra made it safely to China.  They are in Beijing now.  I assume Alisha continues to do well.

Today is a normal Wednesday at Friendship.  Bro. Robbie will be preaching in the 10:00AM & 7:00PM services.  I pray the members of the Friendship family will be faithful.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
