SATURDAY, 2/28/15

Today’s Bible reading – Leviticus 22:17-23:44 Mark 9:30-10:12 Psalm 44:1-8 Proverbs 10:19

Max Peacock had a double by pass and a valve replaced.  He is in CCU and will most likely remain in the hospital for four or five days.  We had several folks, led by Bro. Jerry Hovel, from the Friendship family present at the hospital during the surgery and I appreciate each of them for ministering to this family.

I will post another entry with the information regarding Sarah Thornton’s brother’s service.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  Lord willing, I will be preaching in all three of the worship services.  I hope to be joined by many members of the Friendship family along with many guests.

We will observe the ordinance of baptism as part of our evening worship at 6:00PM.

February 2015 is gone in just a few hours – wow!  As we look back on the first two months of this calendar year, how well have you done in being intentional in evangelism, equipping and encouraging?

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

PRAYER REQUEST

Learned after my original post this morning that Sarah Thornton’s brother, Ed, passed away late yesterday afternoon.  Pray for the family as they walk through this valley.  Will post the arrangements once they have been completed.

FRIDAY, 2/27/15

Today’s Bible reading – Leviticus 20:22-22:16 Mark 9:1-29 Psalm 43:1-5 Proverbs 10:18

My focal prayer this morning is for Max Peacock who will be undergoing heart surgery probably around 8:00AM (my guesstimation on the time).  Bro. Jerry is attending that surgery for me and I am appreciative.  Pray for Max!

Visited with Stella Brinkmann yesterday morning.  She is in kind of a tough spot.  Her family is doing a good job of caring for her.  Pray that her upper arm heals from the break properly.

Mission of Hope service tonight at 7:00PM.  Bus leaves the church at 6:15PM.  Everyone from the Friendship family is invited to attend.

Regular schedule this Sunday morning and evening.  Lord willing, I will be in the pulpit for all three services.  We will conclude our series on the book of Ruth in the morning services.  We then move to “O What A Savior” for four weeks as we will celebrate Easter on that first Sunday in April.

We will observe the ordinance of baptism in the 6:00PM service this Sunday.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 2/26/15

Today’s Bible reading – Leviticus 19:1-20:21 Mark 8:11-38 Psalm 42:1-11 Proverbs 10:17

Good day in our services yesterday morning and last night.  The weather was wet and fairly cool but the Friendship family came faithfully in spite of those things – thank you!

Winston & Ruby Gulley have taken their granddaughter, Faron, to Birmingham for heart surgery.  Not sure of the details but do know we need to pray.

Raymond Wilkinson’s mother was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.

It is my understanding that Stella Brinkman had a cast placed on her hand but they did not place a cast on her arm.  Said it was a clean break and will heal naturally.

Attempted to visit June Strickler’s mother and Martha Patrick yesterday afternoon but both were sleeping.

Vinnie’s son, Buddy, was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.

Max Peacock is scheduled for surgery in the morning.  Stent, by pass and valve replacement.  The hospital is apparently running a three for one special.

Becky Sellers is scheduled for surgery on Monday, 3/2, and, according to Davy, David Bosarge is scheduled for Friday, 3/6, but that is not definite.

Mission of Hope tomorrow night at 7:00PM.  Bus leaves church at 6:15PM.

Men’s breakfast on Saturday, 3/7, at 8:00AM.  Open to everyone including women and children.  We will have a “clean the yard” work day beginning at 9:00AM.  We need to rake/mulch leaves, weed eat, work the shrubs, mow, et cetera.  The work day portion is a “weather permitting” i.e. no rain situation.

I am happy for the children in North Alabama who got snow yesterday.  Pastor Clint Landry contacted me last night to say they had measured eight and half inches in Arab – wow!  My niece said they measured six and half inches in Danville.

I have put in an application to get on staff at Danville Baptist Church (Pastor Jack Bailey) as they seemingly never have Wednesday night services.  Always something – too cold, too hot, snow, rain, et cetera.  Talk about an easy job!  Wait, Jason Bowling is a member there.  I will stay where I am!

I pray that  you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 2/25/15

Today’s Bible reading – Leviticus 16:29-18:30 Mark 7:24-8:10 Psalm 41:1-13 Proverbs 10:15-16

Another good night of prayer meeting as twenty four folks came to pray.  The 5:30PM time seemed to be a huge hit.  So much so that I am going to make another change time wise.  For the time being, going to move the time to 5:00 – 7:00PM which simply allows folks to come even earlier if they so desire.  Folks, prayer is so very important.  Remember, you can come and go or come and stay.  The important thing is to pray!

TNBA had twelve participants last night.  As usual, the team I was on pretty much dominated the night!  We could not stop Pauley Seymour but who can?  (Certainly not Phillip T or Rusty S!)

Regular schedule this morning and tonight.  The weather in Bham changed my plans so I will be present in all services and will be doing the preaching/teaching.  (I appreciate Bro. Jerry being ready but I will get to be here)  Not sure what the menu holds for tonight as far as the 7:30PM Bible study is concerned.

Buddy Brewer, Vinnie’s son, had an episode early yesterday morning that required a heart cath followed by stents being placed.  Not sure how many but I understand he is doing good and should be discharged from the hospital today.  I appreciate Bro. Kerry covering that procedure as I was out of town for the funeral.

Speaking of the funeral, Pastor David Walley and Pastor Ronnie Maxie did an excellent job in preaching Gene’s service.  They did what I think every pastor ought to do at a service – they preached the plan of salvation to the living.  If anyone left that service not knowing how to be saved then they simply did not listen.  Great job!  Randall Broome did his usual good job of singing too!

Speaking of funerals, Grant & Katie Tillman asked me to convey their “thanks” for the prayers and support during Grant’s grandfather’s sickness and subsequent passing.  BTW, Pastor Art Burroughs also shared the Gospel in that service.

Speaking of Katie T (Grant married way over his head), her maternal grandmother, Stella Brinkman, fell yesterday morning and broke one of her arms.  So swollen that they cannot do anything right now.  Stella is a sick lady.

Max Peacock has decided to have a stent placed in his heart, a by pass performed and a heart valve replaced this Friday, 2/27.  Sounds like to me that he looked at the menu and simply said, “I will take one of each!”  Wow!

Raymond’s mother, Brenda, is in hopes of coming home from the hospital today.

Art Elliott did come home but remains highly contagious so they request no visitors.  You can call but you might want to cover the phone while you talk to Art?

Martha Patrick remains in the hospital.  Still remains confused.

Sarah Thornton’s brother, Ed, had a heart cath and then suffered a stroke.  He is in the hospital.

June Strickler’s mother, Miss Shofner, remains hospitalized.

Larry Whitehurst continues to recover at home from his surgery.

Once again, an entry that is too long.  I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 2/24/15

Today’s Bible reading – Leviticus 15:1-16:28 Mark 7:1-23 Psalm 40:11-17 Proverbs 10:13-14

I would ask you to pray for the Gene Broome family (Bobby Broome & Ann Clark) today as they gather for the service.  Pastor David Walley from Union Baptist and Pastor Ronnie Maxie (Greene County, MS) will be preaching the service.  Pastor David has been of friend of Gene’s for many years and Pastor Ronnie is a nephew.

Visited Martha Patrick in the hospital yesterday.  She was alone so I am not sure what her situation is as Martha is easily confused these days.

As far as I know, Art Elliott remains hospitalized.  I have not gotten the “all clear” from Debra yet regarding him being contagious.

Raymond Wilkinson and I played phone tag yesterday so I do not have an update on his mother.

I do know that Amy Huhn’s father, Bobby Morrison, was discharged from the hospital on Sunday afternoon late.

I also know that Miss June Strickler’s mother, Miss Marie, is in the hospital battling an infection.  She is in one of those situations where those visiting have to wear the gown, mask, gloves, et cetera.

Rumor has it that Max Peacock is facing heart surgery.  I am not sure if that surgery is scheduled for this Friday, 2/27, or the following Friday, 3/6.  Regardless, we need to pray for Max.

Rachel Jackson’s niece, Christi, lives in the Tuscaloosa, AL area.  She is medically sedated and medically paralyzed because of an asthma attack on Sunday.  She is thirty two years of age.

One more prayer request – I learned yesterday that Lori Turner passed away on Sunday.  Lori is the wife of Pastor Tom Turner, Praise Family Church on Dawes Road (next to Walmart).  Lisa and I have been on the same flight with Pastor Tom & Lori several times when going to Guatemala.  Lori suffered a stroke in her brain.  Pray for Pastor Tom and the entire Turner family.

On the praise side – they have found a bone marrow  perfect match for Rachel Jackson’s nephew, Phillip, to receive a transplant.  It is his sister, Addison.  The procedure will take place at some point in March.

Prayer meeting tonight from 5:30 – 7:00PM in the auditorium.  Please enter/exit through the West side door only.  Come and go.  Come and stay.  Just pray!

TNBA tonight at 7:00PM in the CAB for those men who attended at least one of our worship services this past Sunday.  Awesome action!

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.

This entry has been too long.  My apologies.  I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

Sunday, March 01 – Leviticus 24:1-25:46 Mark 10:13-31 Psalm 44:9-26 Proverbs 10:20-21

Blessed Sunday in our services yesterday.  Highlight of the day was Matthew Long making a profession of faith desiring to follow Jesus in believers’ baptism.  Spirit was excellent and the attendance was strong once again.  I am grateful that we have gotten past the bookend weekends of a week of no school with strong attendance.  Thank you for being faithful.

Visitation with the Henry Tillman family is this morning from 10:00AM until the noon service.  Everything at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore.

They visitation with the Gene Broome family (Bobby Broome & Ann Clark) takes place tonight in Sand Hill, MS and the service takes place tomorrow at 10:30AM.  Visitation and service from the Sand Hill Baptist Church.

Grief share tonight at 6:00PM in the auditorium.

Prayer meeting tomorrow night beginning at 5:30PM until 7:00PM.  Come and go or come and stay – just pray!  Do whatever works best for you.  Please enter/exit through the West side door only.  Thanks!

TNBA tomorrow night at 7:00PM in the CAB.

What a difference a day makes in the weather – wow!  I am praying for safety for folks as they travel to school, work, et cetera on these wet roads.  Our friends in the northern part of the state are looking at snow on Wednesday.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 2/22/15

Today’s Bible reading – Leviticus 13:1-59 Mark 6:1-29 Psalm 39:1-13 Proverbs 10:10

The arrangements for Grant Tillman’s paternal grandfather are as follows:  visitation with the family from 10:00AM until 12:00PM (noon) tomorrow, 2/23, from Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, AL.  Funeral service at 12:00PM also from the funeral home.  Burial in Serenity Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Broome’s and Ann Clark’s brother, Gene Broome, passed from this life yesterday morning, 2/21.  The visitation with the family will be tomorrow night, 2/23, from 6:00 – 9:00PM from the Sand Hill Baptist Church near Richton, Mississippi.  The service will take place on Tuesday morning at 10:30AM also from Sand Hill Baptist Church.

Keep praying for those in the hospital – Raymond Wilkinson’s mother, Amy Huhn’s father and Martha Patrick.

Tom & Shari Compagner are dear friends from Michigan.  Their daughter, Leah, and her husband, Brian, are expecting their second child on April 10.  However, Leah is showing signs of going into labor now.  She is on bed rest as she is 33 weeks and 2 days today.  Pray for Leah, the baby and all involved.

Regular schedule today/tonight.  My prayer is that many members of the Friendship family will be in attendance.

Today is appreciation day for our Minister to Students, Bro. Chris Taylor as this February marks his sixth year on our staff.  A love offering will be received in all three services.  Members of the Friendship family are encouraged to send him a card/note of appreciation during this coming week.

This is truly an eleventh hour request – I am looking for three volunteers.  One to share for three minutes or less about what Bro. Chris’ ministry has meant to them or to their family.  Need one for each of the three worship services.  (We will have a trap door for anyone going beyond the three minute mark!)

There is a blood drive today from 10:30AM until 2:30PM.  The mobile unit will be parked outside the church.  If able, please consider giving blood.  Thanks!

Sponsors for the children from Guatemala – see Amy Reynolds in the first service today.  She has a photo and calendar for you.  (Remember, former cheerleader, potential blonde, so be kind to her!)

The folks from the 30-39 Sunday School class did an awesome job of getting a new room ready yesterday which will give them a much larger room to meet in beginning this morning.  Special thanks to Joey Switzer for leading this effort!  Miss Kittie Camp’s Sunday School class will move to the room vacated by the 30-39 year olds beginning this morning also.  Good stuff!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

STUDENT PASTOR CHRIS TAYLOR APPRECIATION DAY

Tomorrow, 2/22, has been set aside to recognize Bro. Chris Taylor.  The month of February marks the sixth anniversary of Bro. Chris serving as our minister to students.  We will receive a love offering in all three services as a tangible way to show our love and appreciation to Bro. Chris and his family.

Bro. Chris is married to Nicole (nee Crawley) and they have two sons, Truett and Tag.  I have always said that the best thing about Bro. Chris is Nicole!  I stand by that statement!

So, join us tomorrow in celebrating Bro. Chris’ anniversary of serving the Lord through the Friendship family.  Pass the word!
