FRIDAY, 8/31/12

Greg Boutwell’s surgery went well and the family got a good initial report.  The surgery was short but the wait time was long as the surgery did not begin until somewhere around 3:30PM.  (Folks, when you are stuck in the hospital waiting room with Greg’s daughter, Kim French, it makes for a long day!  Her husband, David, needs our prayers!)

Art Elliott remains hospitalized.  There was a new redness and swelling in his leg so they decided to give him another round of antibiotics.  I will no longer predict when Art will be discharged from the hospital.

I have to give props to Charles, Soy, and Rita as they were picking up limbs whenever I got home late yesterday afternoon.  As a matter of fact, they had a lion’s share of them picked up already.  You thought we had already picked them up?  We had a worse night on Wednesday as far as the weather was concerned than we did on Tuesday so there were “millions” of limbs on the ground.  Had I known they were picking up limbs I would have waited at the hospital another hour or so – no wait, I would rather pick up limbs than be stuck in the waiting room with Kim!  Pray for Soy as he was bitten by two ants and he whined the entire time about how much it hurt!

Joe David offered to send Jason Bowling to help and Eddie thought Jason was covering for him.  Folks, having Jason Bowling work with you is like losing three good men!  I am serious!  Josh Schlehuber is coming today and the same principle applies!

I used the phrase “lion’s share” earlier in this post.  I am now being told that such phrases cannot be used as they “may” offend others.  Example – one can no longer use the phrase “Dutch treat” as it may infer that Dutch folks are cheap.  I know several Dutch folks (Tom Compagner comes to mind) and in a word they are – cheap!  LOL!

The Danville Hawks started the season with a win last night.  Rumor has it that the new assistant volunteer coach is already paying huge dividends.

Ross Genzink, Rusty Suthoff, Soy, and I are leaving today headed to Arlington, Texas for the Bama versus Michigan game that will be played tomorrow night.  I have every plan to be back in time to fill the pulpit on Sunday morning and evening.  (I “may” not make the first morning service but should be home in time for the second service)  Pray for our traveling mercies.  By the way, I can assure you that it will not be “Dutch treat” when we stop to eat as Soy & Rusty will just look at me when the server asks if the ticket should be split!  Ross will claim he forgot his wallet (my girls tell me that it is old school to use the word wallet) and complain about how much it cost him to fly to Mobile.  (Bill Kendrick has basically begged to join us on this trip as he absolutely loves Bama football but we do not have an extra ticket!)

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 8/30/12

The church office is open regular hours (8:00AM – 5:00PM) today. As usual, the office is closed on Friday.

Greg Boutwell will have a surgical procedure today.  Pray that all goes well.

Art Elliott remains hospitalized but “hopefully” the business with the pump needed will be open today, Art will get one, and he & Miss Debra can go home.

I am not sure if T.C. Phillips remains hospitalized or not.  Will check today.

TJ & Lindsey had just announced that Lindsey was expecting their second child.  However, some complications caused Lindsey to miscarry this past Monday.  I talked to TJ last night and they are doing “okay” but pray for them.

Sammy Bowden has the shingles and needs our prayer support.  If I lived with Myrtle. . . . .

Yesterday was a different day for me.  As the winds blew and the rain fell, I did some work on the computer.  Pretty much as soon as the rain stopped, I headed outside to pick up limbs.  Four hours later and there are still limbs to be picked up.  Thanks to Charles, Dana, Gina, Hien, Lisa, Soy, & Deidra for their help.  (Soy actually worked as Deidra was cracking that whip!)  My brother, Eddie, (China) and Dr. Tico (Guatemala) have called to see if they can help – right!

Again, if anyone i.e. senior adults, widows, et cetera needs help because of the storm, call the church office.

College football begins tonight at 6:00PM (I think) with the USC vs Vandy game on television.  I may miss the first half as I hope to be working in the yard but will catch the second half, Lord willing.  It seems that many folks are picking Vandy to win this one while I say stay with USC.  (Actually, just find out which team Joe David Bailey is picking and then pick the other one if you want to be certain!  JD is the Lee Corso of Danville!)

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 8/29/12

It is 4:00AM as I write this entry.  I am posting now because we obviously have electricity and internet service.  (I called Al last night and he promised to keep the internet service up and running!)

Remember, we are NOT having any services/classes/Bible studies today!

The church office will be CLOSED today. However, the ministerial staff will be on call in the event we are needed for an emergency or to help anyone with storm related issues.  I have checked the forecast and it calls for constant rain through tomorrow night.  The office will be open tomorrow, 8/30.

Art Elliott was all poised to go home yesterday until he found out the company that supplies the pump he needs closed up shop until at least tomorrow.  So, he will remain in the hospital until at least tomorrow and possibly until Friday.  He has understandably grown impatient but said God has a reason for him to remain hospitalized for now.

As far as I know, T.C. Phillips remains hospitalized too.  They did diagnose the cause of his problems yesterday but were going to do some more testing.

Scott Cumbie, Caroline Ford’s son, had surgery yesterday and remains hospitalized.  Pray for these folks.

So, I am talking to Amy Reynolds via the phone yesterday morning and she tells me that she was baking a cake!  What an oxymoron – Amy & baking!  (She later confessed that Will’s mother was there baking the cake!)

Soy, Brad, Titus and I got out late yesterday afternoon and picked up about one million of the three million pecan tree limbs down on our property.  (Actually, Soy & Titus rode the gator while Brad and I picked up limbs)  Rita & Beck Hatcher sat on the porch sipping coffee and watching as we worked which included cleaning up the limbs from Rita’s yard.  Thanks ladies!  (I felt like Ross, Joe David & Tico were present!)

I pray that everyone will remain safe today.  It would be best to stay off of the highways today unless it is an emergency.  Again, you can call any staff member if you have an emergency.  (Emergencies do not include asking us to run to Walmart to get you a soft drink, et cetera – LOL!)

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus!

TUESDAY, 8/28/12

Peggy Knighten called last night to tell me that her son, T.C., remains hospitalized.  The doctors will be having a test done today to help them diagnose his problem.

I have plans to visit with Art & Debra again this morning so I should be able to give an update in the morning.  Their hope is to go home today if a pump can be secured for at home use.

Betty Hamil was scheduled to have a heart cath this morning but that got canceled.  She insisted that I not mention it but now that it is not taking place I do not know if I can mention it or not?  She has decided to not have it all for the time being.  (If I was not supposed to mention this just ignore this paragraph)

I know that you are praying for all of the folks who have been, are, and will be in TS Isaac’s path.  Keep praying for the folks in Louisiana and Mississippi.

A word of appreciation goes to folks like Joe David Bailey, Ross Genzink, Tico Vargas, Tom Compagner, et cetera for their offer to “help” us during this time.  Do they really believe help is only needed after a storm?  We spent Sunday afternoon putting things up around here.  Lisa and her dad had to go to Dauphin Island yesterday afternoon to secure things there.  Soy & I had to drive to Orange Beach after work yesterday to help folks secure their place.  (A really big thanks to Rick & Josh for their help!)  We got home at 9:45PM.  Did I see Joe David, Tom, Tico, or Ross “helping”?  I think not!  You would think the very least they could do would be to send cash!  Thanks guys – for nothing!  LOL!

The college football season begins Thursday night – YES!  The real season begins Saturday night at 7:00PM when Bama takes the field!  This is my favorite time of the year as we move from college football to Thanksgiving to Christmas.  Bring on the cooler weather!

Remember, no activities at the church tomorrow.  I will make the call later today about whether the church office will be open.  We are definitely open today.  Again, if anyone needs assistance getting prepared for the storm, call the church office.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus!

MONDAY, 8/27/12 (SECOND ENTRY)

Sorry for the lateness of this entry but I wanted to check on a couple of folks before posting.  Art Elliott remains in a local hospital following his fourth surgery in recent days.  He could possibly go home tomorrow if they can secure a pump to help with the healing.  He and Miss Debra have great attitudes but certainly need our prayer support.

T. C. Phillips is Peggy Knighten’s son and the grandson of Tony & JoNell Barnes.  He too is in a local hospital.  The doctors are not sure of his problem at this point.

Miss Ruth Burch passed away yesterday morning.  Miss Ruth and Bro. Norman have been active members at 1st Baptist Grand Bay for many, many years.  Her father, W.W. Wynn, was an active member of the Friendship family.  Norman & Ruth have been friends for all of my years in Grand Bay.  Good folks!  Pray for the Burch family as they go through this time.

We had a good day in our services yesterday with another salvation decision in our second morning service.  The attendance in our morning services was good.  We thank God for giving the increase and for a good day!

I think folks misunderstood me yesterday morning when I said that we would announce in the evening service about this Wednesday’s services.  They evidently thought I said we were canceling the Sunday evening service as we were missing about 50 – 60 folks from our normal attendance.  I am grateful to those who did attend and we had a nice crowd just not our usual number.

I appreciate the members of the adult choir sharing two specials in both of the morning services yesterday.  That required some extra on their part.  It was good!

Bro. Chris will not be taking a group skiing as the interest simply has not been there.

Again, no services this Wednesday, 8/29.  We are on a regular schedule for this Sunday, 9/2.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

P.S. – If any member of the Friendship family needs help with storm preparations, please call the church office and we will do what we can to assist you.

MONDAY, 8/27/12

All activities/Bible studies/services scheduled for this Wednesday, 8/29, have been cancelled.  The same is true for the ladies Bible study that meets on Monday mornings.  These cancellations are due to Tropical Storm Isaac which will become Hurricane Isaac before it makes landfall.

The church office is open regular hours today.

I will post a normal blog later this morning.

THURSDAY, 8/23/12

Dale Ellerman will have surgery this morning.  Pray for him.

It is my understanding that Sarah Thornton will also have a surgical procedure today.  Pray for her.

Sharon Jardee was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and I am fairly certain that Sueanna Bryant was discharged yesterday.  Pray for these ladies as they recover/recuperate at home.

Received an e-mail from Jim Chinners last night telling of multiple salvation decisions in our middle school Bible study last night.  Praise the Lord!

Remember the ordination service this Sunday night and the ski trip meeting immediately following that service.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 8/22/12

Please continue to pray for Sharon Jardee as she recovers from her surgery.

Sueanna Bryant “may” be discharged from the hospital today but I stress the “may” in this statement.

Dale Ellerman will have surgery tomorrow morning if all goes as planned.

Edna’s brother, Henry, continues to live in spite of the medical personnel not thinking he could be living.  Only God knows.  Pray for Henry and his family.

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight.  I hope the members of the Friendship family will be faithful.

Misson trip sign up deadline is one week from tonight!  Do not delay or you may not get a spot later.

Anyone interested in going on a snow skiing trip to WV with Bro. Chris serving as the leader (he cannot ski very well but he puts together a nice trip) needs to attend a meeting immediately following the service this Sunday evening.  Need more details?  Contact Bro. Chris directly.

Do not forget the ordination service for John M. Ladnier, Jr. this Sunday evening.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 8/21/12

I went by and prayed with Sharon Jardee before her surgery yesterday.  As far as I know, everything went well.  Pray for her recovery.

Had a nice visit with Sueanna.  She is eager on two fronts – that the doctors can pinpoint her problem and treat it properly and that she can go home yesterday!  Pray for Sue, Kyle and the boys.

Dale Ellerman is scheduled to have surgery Thursday morning.  He is anxious about this procedure.  Pray for Dale.

Bro. Chris Taylor is leading a group on a snow skiing trip the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  He will hold a very important meeting this Sunday evening, 8/26, immediately following the evening worship service.  This trip is for anyone from the Friendship family.  Questions?  Contact Bro. Chris at chris@friendshipfamily.net.

We had a few more folks sign up for the mission trips yesterday.  The clock is ticking toward the deadline of 8/29.  Do not delay!

Nanette Fontenot is mad at me – again!  I cannot tell you what she said to me but the basis was that I did not mention Korie & Thu’s (Hien) special music from this past Sunday night’s service.  After the service, Nanette wanted those two, her, and me to have our picture made together!   Folks, that is weird!  LOL!

Lisa and I will be out of pocket for the next couple of days.  I do not know if I will blog or not.  We are going to be on an event with Lisa’s work and I am looking forward to some down time so I may not even get online.  I will be in the services this Sunday, Lord willing.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 8/20/12

Sueanna Bryant remains hospitalized as it seems they cannot properly diagnose her problem.  She is not a happy camper for various reasons.  Pray that today will be a good day for her.

Sharon Jardee will be having another surgery this morning.  She is scheduled to be first on the list.  I will go pray with her and then Bro. Kerry will go be with the family during the actual procedure.  Pray that all goes well.  Sharon is such a faithful member of the Friendship family.

Wow, we had a great day in our services yesterday.  The highlight was seeing two professions of faith in the morning service and then two baptisms in the evening service.  God gives the increase!

Our Spanish ministry celebrated their third anniversary yesterday.  I appreciate all the folks who are involved in that ministry.  Rita Padilla & Becky Hatcher have been the mainstays.  Others have helped along the way.  In recent months, Chad Blakeney and Jim Chinners have done most of the teaching/preaching.  Pray for our Spanish ministry.

Special thanks to Bro. Jim Jordan for bringing the men from the mission to our 10:30AM service yesterday.  I know that means a lot to the folks from the Friendship family who are involved in that ministry.

We have a little over a week for members of the Friendship family to sign up for our Summer 2013 GRACE trips.  The deadline is August 29.  Do not delay.

I am taking vacation this week.  However, I will be, Lord willing, in the pulpit this coming Sunday.  We will be ordaining John Milton Ladnier as a deacon in Sunday night’s service.  The ordination council will meet at 4:00PM in the auditorium.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.
