SATURDAY, 10/31/15

Today’s Bible reading – Lamentations 4:1-5:22 Hebrews 2:1-18 Psalm 103:1-22 Proverbs 26:23

Lisa received an update from Caroline Ford yesterday saying that Cynthia is doing good.  As a matter of fact, they are now talking of when she goes to a rehab facility.  Wow, what a major difference in one week’s time.  It is all because of Jesus.

Marisa sent me a message last night to give me an update on Carla.  In Marisa’s words, “Carla is a sick young lady.”  We need to continue to lift Carla up in our prayers.  Remember, her infection is highly contagious and there is a ban on folks visiting her.

Laurie Chandler’s dad remains hospitalized.

Do not really have any other updates but do ask that you keep praying for those folks for whom we have been praying.

Hallelujah Festival tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  The forecast calls for a pretty good chance of rain this afternoon.  Much of the HF will take place in the CAB so come rain or shine.  Thanks to everyone who has helped and will help with this ministry opportunity.

FALL BACK!  Set your clocks back one hour tonight before going to be as this is time change Sunday.

Dr. Derek Draft did some pretty major dental work on Lisa yesterday.  What a great guy!  He did a superb job and we are thankful to him and Kim McKian for taking such good care of her.  She did extremely well.

Outside of the visit to the dentist, we were able to spend time in fellowship with some of our friends from Michigan.  I actually spent the better part of the afternoon purchasing tickets for the January 28 – February 4, 2016 GRACE Ministries trip to Guatemala.  God is good is all I can say.  Praise Him.

Coach Eric Collier guided his Theodore High School football team to a win last night which puts them in the state playoffs.  Congratulations Coach and best of luck in the playoffs!

By the time most of you read this entry, Lisa, Lazaro and I will be on a plane heading South.  Lazaro will part ways with us in Atlanta as he heads to Wetumpka while we head to Mobile.  Remember, Lazaro will be with us Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights beginning at 6:30PM nightly.  Everyone is invited to attend these special services.

My college football picks for today – Bama will not lose.  Going with the Black Bears over AU even though I really want to pick the Tigers in an upset.  USM will win.  Going with UGA over FL – Coach Richt needs his team to win a big game.  South will not lose.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 10/30/15

Today’s Bible reading – Lamentations 3:1-66 Hebrews 1:1-14 Psalm 102:1-28 Proverbs 26:21-22

Carla Kyser has now been diagnosed and is on the correct medication.  That is the good news.  The bad news is that she has an infection that is highly contagious (thanks Carla for letting me know this AFTER I visited with you! LOL!).  Therefore, she is under a “no visitors” order.  Keep praying.

Did not get an update on Cynthia yesterday but do know she needs our continued prayer support.

The annual GRACE Ministries pig roast was a huge success!  We had about 225 folks in attendance.  Bro. Johnny Tucker, Lazaro Suruy and the doctors all did a great job of sharing.  Tom & Shari Compagner and a host of others did a fabulous job of cooking the pig, cooking the trimmings, decorating, et cetera.  Numerous others helped clean up afterwards.  Great night!

Folks are waiting on me so I have to go.  I pray you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 10/29/15

Today’s Bible reading – Lamentations 1:1-2:22 Philemon 1:1-25 Psalm 101:1-8 Proverbs 26:20

Lisa and I visited Carla Kyser yesterday.  At that time, she was still a pretty sick young lady.  Pray that they can find the meds to give her some relief.

We also visited Cynthia Cumbie.  She was sound asleep.  Did not get an update on her but she is in a room now.  That is progress but she still has a long way to go.

Laurie Chandler’s father is in the hospital.  It is my understanding that he got some less than desirable news from the doctors.

Eddie Whitmore was in our morning service yesterday.  He meets with the doctor today.  Pray that goes well.

We had a good day in our services yesterday/last night.  God is good!

Final scheduled night of Upward evaluations tonight from 5:00 – 7:30PM.

Hallelujah Festival this Saturday, 10/31, from 5:00 – 7:00PM.

Lisa and I are scheduled to leave early today heading to Michigan for the annual GRACE Ministries pig roast.  We will be back Saturday morning, Lord willing.  Lazaro Suruy will be at the pig roast as will Bro. Johnny & Miss Judy Tucker.  The doctors and others will reveal the plans for the proposed medical clinic to be built near the feeding center.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 10/28/15

Today’s Bible reading –  Jeremiah 51:54-52:34 Titus 3:1-15 Psalm 100:1-5 Proverbs 26:18-19

Let’s start with some good news – Cynthia Cumbie was sitting up in the bed eating and drinking yesterday afternoon.  She was supposed to be moved into a regular room (not sure if that happened as the hospital is at capacity) and they are going to begin physical therapy.  The doctor says that Cynthia is “not out of the woods yet” but what a difference in just twenty four hours.  We give God the praise!

Carla Kyser has been a very sick young lady for the past several days.  So much so that she was admitted to the hospital late yesterday.  Would you join me in praying that they can find the source of Carla’s problems and get it corrected?  Carla is a sweetheart!

Young Teila Graham passed from this life Monday night.  She has been on our prayer list for a long time.  I believe that I am correct in saying that Teila was either twelve or thirteen years old.  Pray for her family as they go through the visitation tonight and the service tomorrow.  Everything will take place from the Lighthouse of Hope Church on Argyle Road.

I had the opportunity to visit with Brian Amonett in the hospital yesterday.  He is doing very well.  He and his family are very thankful for the prayer support.

Rick & Beth Bradley, along with Lisa and I, are very proud or our Sunday School class.  Last night, they hosted a fabulous meal for some folks from our community.  Our SS class members paid for everything, did the shopping for the food, cooked, decorated and invited folks to join them.  Aaron Chinners was the point man on this project but there were many folks involved.  I will not go into details as to how this was a God thing but believe me when I say that it was.

Kyle Bryant and crew had another good night of Upward evaluations.  Soy tells me the number of players registered has now reached one hundred (+/-) with one more night of registrations to go.  That registration takes place tomorrow night from 5:00 – 7:30PM in the CAB.  Please pass the word to anyone interested.  Upward league play begins the first Saturday in December and concludes the last Saturday in February 2016.

Regular schedule this morning and tonight.  The fare for the 7:30PM Bible study is lasagna with all of the trimmings.

Hallelujah Festival this Saturday, 10/31, from 5:00 – 7:00PM in the CAB.  Yes, we do still need donations of wrapped candy.  By the way, after the Upward evaluations end tomorrow night, the CAB is closed to all other activities until after the Hallelujah Festival.

This Sunday, 11/1, is my favorite one of the year as it relates to time.  This Sunday is time change Sunday when we “fall back” one hour meaning folks can get an extra hour’s sleep.  (We have “saved” all of the daylight we can since March 8, 2015)  So, remember to set your time pieces back one hour before going to bed this Saturday night.  Hooray!

I bought gasoline in Ocean Springs for $1.71 per gallon yesterday morning.  Felt pretty good about it!  Then I drove through Gautier and saw it for $1.67 per gallon.  Why can’t Morris Bryant and crew get the prices that low in Grand Bay?

Once again, this post is too long.  My apologies.  I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 10/27/15

Happy birthday to my younger brother, Freddie.  Hope his day is great!

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 51:1-53 Titus 2:1-15 Psalm 99:1-9 Proverbs 26:17

Visited with Cynthia/Caroline yesterday morning.  Caroline did not talk to a doctor yesterday during my time there but, strictly from a layman’s perspective, I thought Cynthia looked a bit better.  They have taken her off of one medicine which was helping keep her blood pressure up and she had done ok.  Still going to take a divine miracle.

Do not know how many children came to the Upward evaluation last night but it was busy in the early going.  Evaluations take place again tonight and Thursday night.  5:00 – 7:30PM each night.  Kyle Bryant and the others working with him did a nice job.  One question – where was Amber Joyner?  I thought she was a part of that group!

Lindsey Vice has not let me know if they still need donations of wrapped candy for the Hallelujah Festival.  Guessing she does not read the blog which is a dagger into my heart!  I am going to say that donations of candy will still be appreciated.

Prayer time tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  Lord willing, I will be there.  I will be involved in another ministry opportunity at the church tonight but will be able to do both.  Thank you in advance to those who will join us for the prayer time.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

Friday, 10/30 – Lamentations 3:1-66 Hebrews 1:1-14 Psalm 102:1-28 Proverbs 26:21-22

Saturday, 10/31 – Lamentations 4:1-5:22 Hebrews 2:1-18 Psalm 103:1-22 Proverbs 26:23

Sunday, 11/1 – Ezekiel 1:1-3:15 Hebrews 3:1-19 Psalm 104:1-23 Proverbs 26:24-26

Good day in our services yesterday.  Our evening service was a special blessing as we were joined by the folks from the New Beginnings Ministries Church.  I have already received e-mails and comments about the impact that service had on folks who were in attendance.  We give God the glory!

Upward evaluations tonight and tomorrow night in the CAB.  I am not sure about the time but I am thinking 5:30 – 7:30PM each night.  Call the church office if you need an exact time.

Griefshare tonight from 6:00 – 8:00PM.

GROW tonight beginning at 6:30PM.

Not sure what the final tally was on the candy for the Hallelujah Festival but more can always be used.  Pray for this ministry opportunity that takes place this Saturday, 10/31, from 5:00 – 7:00PM in the CAB.

Reb Nevin is again leading the Operation Christmas Child ministry for our church this year.  You can get your box from her or I think there are some in the auditorium foyer.

Mariam Moates tells me it is time to adopt residents from the Grand Bay Convalscent Home for Christmas.  We will begin that process this Sunday, 11/1.

Cynthia Cumbie remains about the same.  I will be visiting her first thing this morning.

Carla Kyser is sick.  Pray that she can get in to see her doctor this morning.

Becky Sellers has radiation treatments today and tomorrow and that will complete her treatments.

Eddie Whitmore was some better yesterday per Sierra.

Looks to be a rainy day and night here on the Coast.  They are predicting winds from twenty five to thirty five miles per hour.  If you are out and about, be careful.

This post has been too long.  I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 10/25/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 48:1-49:22 2 Timothy 4:1-22 Psalm 95:1-96:13 Proverbs 26:9-12

Caroline Ford stayed in touch with me Friday and yesterday via texts to Lisa.  She sent a text late last night saying that Cynthia was basically about the same.  Caroline was going home to try and get some rest although I doubt she rested much.  It is 4:00AM as I write this entry and, as far as I know, nothing has changed in Cynthia’s situation.  Keep praying, please.

Regular schedule this morning and evening.  Our evening service will be special as we will host the members of the New Beginnings Baptist Church.  It will be a different service as they will be sharing some musical selections and we will be just showing them our love and support during this time of adjustment in their church life.  I hope many members of the Friendship family will be present.

Friendship family – “sweet” Sunday today!

The outcry was great as I did not publish my college football picks yesterday.  Here are a few of them – Bama over UT, Arkansas over Auburn, Texas State over USA, USM over Charlotte and, in the upset special, USC over the Utes.  I also predict the Cubs will not make it to the Series this year (sorry Pastor Wes).

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 10/24/15

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 44:24-47:7 2 Timothy 2:22-3:17 Psalm 94:1-23 Proverbs 26:6-8

It is just before 7:00AM as I write this and Lisa just received word from Caroline Ford that her daughter, Cynthia, remains basically the same.  I (not quoting the doctor or anyone else) would deem her situation as critical.  Caroline stayed at the hospital last night which was obviously difficult for her but she is one tough lady (I would say tough “old” lady but she would slap me).

No updates on anyone else for whom we have been praying.  I did receive word from Carla Kyser that she finished her radiation and will meet with the doctor next week to get a schedule for getting back on her chemo treatments.

Lisa and I have been joined in Birmingham by Tom & Shari Compagner and Ross & Kathy Genzink from Michigan.  They are dear friends and we have done this Bama game thing for several years.  As usual, Tom & Ross stuck me with the check for supper last night and I will have to buy the popcorn today too!  Actually, the deal was supposed to be that we would get them to a Bama game and, in turn, they would get Lisa and me to a Michigan (Ross) game and a Michigan State (Tom) game each year.  Ross took me (not Lisa) to one UM game many years ago when they were playing no one and it was raining, snowing, sleeting, and a hurricane was making landfall.  Somehow Lisa and I have gotten stuck on this “deal!”

I am looking forward to our joint service with the folks from New Beginnings Baptist Church tomorrow night beginning at 6:00PM.  Friendship family, please show up and let’s show our brothers & sisters our love and support.

“Sweet” Sunday tomorrow.  Bring bags of wrapped candy for the Hallelujah Festival.  Thank you!

Coach Collier and the Theodore Bobcats lost a really tough one last night.  Coach Collier is a fine man and those players are blessed to have him leading them.  (I have a biased opinion!)

Heading toward Tuscaloosa.  I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 10/23/15 (THIRD ENTRY)

It is just past 7:30PM and I just talked to Larry Whitehurst via the phone.  He is at the hospital with Caroline Ford because of the seriousness of Cynthia’s condition.  Folks, Cynthia is in a battle for her life.  Would you stop right now and say a prayer for Cynthia, the medical folks working with her, and her family.

I appreciate Larry and others who have gone to the hospital to be with Caroline during this most difficult time.  I told Caroline that I would come home but she insisted that I not do so.  Our relationship is such that I know Caroline means what she says.  So, I am praying from here.

FRIDAY, 10/23/15 (SECOND ENTRY)

Talked to Caroline Ford a bit earlier today and learned that her daughter, Cynthia, was admitted to the hospital yesterday and was immediately placed in ICU.  As I said in my earlier entry, Cynthia looked really bad yesterday.

I failed to mention the service being hosted by the Friendship family at the Mission of Hope tonight.  Pastor Wes Bates will be preaching and Miss Jeanette Bates will be singing.  Service begins at 7:00PM and everyone is invited to attend.
