SATURDAY, 11/19/11

The arrangements for Gage Hudson are as follows – visitation tomorrow night, 11/20, from 5:00 – 9:00PM.  The service will take place on Monday, 11/21, at 10:00AM.  Everything will take place that First Assembly of God in Saraland.  Please continue to pray for Gage’s family.

Larry Barnes is married to Tena Hovel’s sister, Vickie.  Larry & Vickie attend the services at Friendship.  Larry’s father passed away yesterday so I ask that you pray for the Barnes family too.

I remind you that our evening service tomorrow begins at 5:00PM and will feature the preaching ministry of Dr. Tico Vargas.

The community Thanksgiving service also takes place tomorrow night beginning at 6:00PM and will be held at First Baptist.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 11/18/11

Word came to me during the night that Pattie’s grandson, Gage Hudson, passed away around 10:00PM.  Pray for Callie, Pattie, and the family during this difficult time.  I will post the arrangements once I know them.

Korie Fontenot is having surgery today to repair her broken nose.  Pray that all goes well.  Korie, catch the ball!

It is my understanding that Bobby Stork’s mother is having some complications.  I do not know enough about the details to share but do ask that you pray.

I also understand that one of Miss Kathleen Henderson’s daughters is having surgery today.

Remember, our  evening service begins at 5:00PM this Sunday, 11/20, and Dr. Tico Vargas will be the guest speaker.  Of course, we are on a regular schedule for Sunday morning.  Bro. Benny and the bus workers will host a Thanksgiving dinner for the children and their parents.  Pray this will be a good day of ministry.

Speaking of Thanksgiving dinners, I am told that the senior adult meal went well yesterday.  Thanks to all who helped!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 11/17/11

Kirk Lightfield e-mailed me during the night to tell me what a good time he, Michelle, & Ashley had with the Friendship family.  I so appreciate Bro. Jerry & Miss Gloria Whitmore hosting them for these past few days.  (I am glad Kirk is there but I sure do miss him when he is not here during our trips!)

Pattie commented on Tuesday’s entry.  Gage continues to worsen physically.  His temperature is elevated.  Pray for him, his mother, and his grandmother.

Today is the annual Thanksgiving meal for the senior adults of our community.  I am grateful to all of those who have helped in any way to make this day possible.  Bro. Robbie will be speaking and I pray it is a great day!

Friendship family, please remember that Dr. Tico Vargas will be preaching for us this Sunday, 11/20, at 5:00PM.  There will be no other evening activities except that service.  The annual community Thanksgiving service will take place at First Baptist beginning at 6:00PM.

All is well here in Guatemala.  If interested, you can read the updates on the GRACE blog.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 11/15/11

It is approaching 1:00AM and I just finished (kinda) packing.  Honestly, I could not focus on packing until the funerals were behind me.  I needed to get past those services in order to turn my mind toward our GRACE Ministries trip.

The service for Louise was well attended and I thought it went very well.  Thanks to Bro. Jerry, Bro. Kerry, Miss Jeanette, and Miss Sharon for taking part in the service.  Thanks to all those who helped with the food.  You did great!  We are going to miss Louise greatly!  She will not be replaced!  I will say again that the Morris family was extremely gracious and very easy to work with through Louise’s sickness and passing.

Pattie commented again yesterday.  Gage is not doing well at all.  Pray without ceasing for him, his mother, and his grandmother.

Edna Pearl called me yesterday afternoon to say that the doctor has now turned Phil over to an oncologist.  He will be undergoing chemotherapy treatments.  The type, length of treatments, et cetera will all be ironed out this Friday.

I need to try and catch a couple of hours sleep before heading to the airport.  Everyone else arrived safely yesterday and/or Saturday.  Pray for our team.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 11/14/11

If you will read Pattie’s comment from my last post, you will know that Gage’s condition continues to decline physically.  Keep praying for Gage, his mother, his grandmother, and the entire family.

The Lord blessed and we had a good day in our services yesterday.  The Spirit was excellent in all of the services and the attendance was good.  Praise the Lord!

I so appreciate everyone who attended the visitation/service last night.  I especially appreciate the choir for filling the choir loft to overflowing and for doing such a nice job on the song.  Ditto to those who helped with the food, stayed in the nursery, sang solos, shared personal tributes, et cetera.  You folks did a great job as ministers!  I think Lois would have been well pleased with the service and I feel the family found comfort in all that was shared in song and spoken word.  The Friendship family is going to miss Lois Kirschenman in a great way but we look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.

The Lord gave me great grace in getting me through the services yesterday morning and last night.  I had His peace and I believe that is largely due to the prayers of God’s people.  Please pray that God will give me the same peace today as we gather for Louise Morris’ service.  Keep praying for her family too.

We had 15 folks arrive in Guatemala this past Saturday for some rest/relaxation before joining the other 27 folks who are traveling today on a GRACE Ministries trip.  Lord willing, I will join them tomorrow afternoon as I delayed my trip by one day in order to be present for Louise’s funeral service.  Pray for this GRACE Ministries team.

My weekend was so “different” that I only watched one college football game and that was the Bama vs MSU game.  Honestly, I “watched” it but I certainly was not “in the game.”  I was glad Bama won.  If Bama can beat AU on 11/26 then I am going to become a huge OU fan this next Saturday (Sherry, Josh should be proud!)  The Ducks and the Horned Frogs made me proud this past Saturday.

Lisa and I were delighted to welcome our third grandchild, Lizzi, into this world on Friday and into our home yesterday afternoon.  We are blessed!

I did watch some of the NFL game last night and, from where I sit, it is always good to see Rex and the Jets get beat.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

SOYETTA IT IS!

So, today I find out that Elisabeth is spelled with a “s” but Lizzi is spelled with a “z”.  I think I will just stick with Soyetta as you can only spell that name one way.  Besides, I had asked Soy how to spell Liszi and he told me with a “s”.  Can you believe it?

SATURDAY, 11/12/11

I know that I normally do not post on the weekends but here is a quick update:  Martha Patrick spent all day in the hospital yesterday.  They found a tumor and removed it is my understanding.  The doctors do not think it is anything to worry about but it has been sent for testing.

The wedding of Thea Whalen and Aaron Burnett was beautiful.  The Friendship family was well represented and I appreciate those who attended.  Aaron & Thea are faithful to the church as are John & Liz.

Deidra and Lizzi are doing fine too.  We are grateful that a c-section was not required.  As a matter of fact, Deidra had a very easy time giving birth once she got her epidural.  Soy did well as long I stood by him and held his hand – said he was scared!

We had fifteen folks leave for Guatemala today and that number includes Tim & Peggy Knighten.  Twenty-two Canadians and some others will leave on Monday.  Pray for GRACE Ministries.

My thoughts are continually on the upcoming funeral services.  Pray for the Kirschenman and Morris families.

I hope to see many members of the Friendship family in attendance for Bible study and worship tomorrow.  I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

ELISABETH LEIGHANN TAYLOR IS HERE!

Elisabeth Leighann Taylor made her appearance into this world at 11:16AM today.  She checked in at 6 pounds 14 ounces. They have not yet given the length.  Deidra and Lizzi are doing great!  We appreciate your prayers!

FRIDAY, 11/11/11

First, I do not want the wedding of Thea Whalen and Aaron Burnett to get lost in the shuffle.  They will become Mr. & Mrs. in a ceremony that begins at 5:00PM today.  The ceremony takes place in the auditorium and the reception will be held in the CAB immediately following.  All members of the Friendship family are cordially invited to attend the wedding and reception.

Second, I salute and pay tribute to all of our veterans today on this Veteran’s Day!  Thank you!  Please know that you are not forgotten!  Thank God for our veterans and their service to our country!

Let me make a couple of requests concerning the funerals.  Both Lois & Louise absolutely loved their church.  It was not “talk” but it was action as they were very faithful.  We now have two gaping holes in our church family.

We are going to have a “normal” service this Sunday evening to remember/honor Lois while seeking to bring glory to God.  Brad Hutto and Jennifer Kelley will be singing solos.  Jeanette Bates and Deanna Wetterer will be the instrumentalists.  We are going to have a choir and I am asking for a packed choir.  All choir members are asked to meet in the choir room at 5:30PM sharp on Sunday for a brief rehearsal.  I am asking that we literally pack the auditorium for this service.  Also, we need two or three folks who will share a brief (three minutes or less) tribute about Lois.  If you want to share, please send me an e-mail message and I will then contact you.  Again, we have to limit this but we do hope for two or three tributes.

Louise had her funeral completely planned.  The family  graciously allowed me to preview that last week.  I realize that we will probably not have the same attendance on Monday simply due to folks having to work.  However, I hope that every member of the Friendship family who is available will be in attendance for Louise’s service.  Bro. Kerry & Bro. Jerry will sing two specials and I will preach.  I am also asking that two or three folks share a brief (three minutes or less) tribute about Louise.  If you want to share, please send me an e-mail message and I will be in touch.

Can I tell you how much I appreciate the texts, the e-mails, and the words of encouragement from the members of the Friendship family as we walk through this valley!  You have been so supportive as you know this is a tough time for me as Pastor.  My mind is spinning and I am reeling.  I would have been affected by losing either Lois or Louise but to lose both within such a short period of time is tough.  However, God is able and I fully trust Him!  He does all things well!  Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Please keep praying for Gage Hudson and all of the others we have been mentioning in recent posts.  Martha Patrick is having a biopsy today.  Phil Morgan met with the doctor but the report was not ready so they will go again later.  I am thinking Desiree Hovel and Noah will go home today or tomorrow.  Korie Fontenot broke her nose at softball practice and will have surgery next week.  That girl can hit a ball a mile but never could catch!

Today is a big day for Soy and Deidra as “Soyetta Janell” Taylor makes her debut into this world!  We are excited!  Curtis & Myrna “from Smyrna” are here.  Deidra is in the hospital having checked in at 4:30PM yesterday.  The doctor seems to think we may have a long day ahead of us as but only God knows.  They will break the water and/or induce labor at 7:00AM today.  Pray for Deidra and the baby today.  Pray that she does “not” look/act like Soy!

So, it is 2:45AM.  Lisa got up at 2:15AM to put a cake in the oven.  Why?  (That is what I asked too!)  To take to the nurses at the hospital.  My response, “are we having a baby or a party?”  Curtis & Myrna brought bar-b-que from Memphis so I guess we are having a party!

I will post again later today to officially announce Soyetta’s arrival.  I plan on posting tomorrow too.  I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus!
