THURSDAY, 6/30/11

Wow, is June ’11 really gone?  The older folks used to talk about how time “flies” and the older I get the more I believe it!  I am still trying to get used to the 2000’s and now ten and one half years are gone in about a week’s time!

We had a good Wednesday.  It was a joy for me to be in the pulpit yesterday.  I will have to be honest in saying that I do enjoy our Wednesday morning service.  We have a faithful group that attends that service and the summer has not hurt that attendance.  We had a good crowd in our 7:00PM service too with several new faces.  Same for the 8:00PM service.  God is good!

Louise Morris went home from the hospital late yesterday afternoon.  The reason she did not go to the rehab facility is because a bed is not available.  That should change tomorrow.  Obviously, she did not have a bacterial infection.

Leasa Salter continues to recover from her surgery and remains hospitalized.  Keep praying.

Carla Kyser will receive another treatment today.  Pray for her.

Landon Joyner has his surgery tomorrow morning.  Pray for him.

We had hoped to hear from Emmy’s latest test yesterday but did not.  Maybe today.  Thanks for praying.

I did not get an update from Wild Week so I cannot give an update.  I did hear from Dale Bosarge and they are doing well leading a camp in Ohio.  Pray for both of these camps.

Remember, regular schedule on Sunday with something totally different in Sunday night’s service which will include the Lord’s Supper & baptism too.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

P.S. – I still do not have a cell phone so if you try to reach me via a call/text then it will not work.  The best route is 445-5416 and leave a voice mail which goes directly to my e-mail.  My new cell phone is on order.  Sorry for any inconvenience but I can say that not having a cell phone has been rather nice.

WEDNESDAY, 6/29/11

Got an update from Bro. Chris last night regarding Wild Week.  They are having blessed services and have seen 12 salvation within our group thus far.  He asked that we keep praying for the camp and our students.  I appreciate the update so those who are not on the social sites have an idea what is happening too.

Leasa Salter’s surgery went well but her recovery time is going to be lengthy.  The doctor said the wound was large and deep.  Leasa also has a staph infection.

Louise Morris has been diagnosed with an infection too.  It is “possible” that they will put her in isolation due to this infection.  So, she will most likely not be moved to rehab today.

We are on a normal schedule today with our morning service at 10:00AM and the evening Bible studies/services.

Folks wishing to be a part of the baptismal service this Sunday evening need to contact me.  I ask them to meet in my office at 5:30PM Sunday afternoon.  Thanks!

Congratulations to the South Carolina Gamecocks on their second consecutive national championship in college baseball.  Go SEC!

The GRACE Ministries shirts are here and will be available today/tonight.  Cost is $10.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus!

TUESDAY, 6/28/11

Leasa Salter will have surgery today.  She is scheduled for noon but that really does not mean a whole lot since later surgeries usually get delayed.  Hopefully, they will get to her in a timely fashion.  Pray that the surgery goes well.

Louise Morris could be moved to a rehab center today.  I am told that will most likely happen no later than tomorrow.  I am on my way to see her first thing today.

Polly Kearns has kept me updated on the teen who was riding his bicycle and struck by the vehicle last Thursday in Daphne.  He passed away last night so we need to pray for that family.  (The story is in today’s paper)

Justin & Amber Joyner’s son, Landon, will have surgery this Friday morning.  He is two years old.

Remember, something “special” along with baptism and the Lord’s Supper in the service this Sunday night, 7/3.

Another order of the GRACE Ministries shirts is in and will be available in the services tomorrow.  The cost is $10 each.  We have sizes from adult small to XXL.

I was blessed to spend late yesterday afternoon in our garden.  Finished picking the snap beans and corn.  The Lord has really blessed our little garden and we give Him the glory.  Found out yesterday that while I was in Guatemala, Charles was “selling” okra from “his” garden!  Wow!  The person showed up wanting to know if Charles had any more okra to sell from “his” garden.  Can you believe it?  How much was he charging?  Ten cents per pod or something like that!  LOL!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

P.S. – I do not do social sites and I am sure Facebook has updated the status of our students in Illinois.  I “assume” they arrived safe and sound and I take the “no news is good news” approach.

MONDAY, 6/27/11

Bro. Chris and 69 others left around 2:00AM today headed to somewhere in Illinois for Wild Week with Ken Freeman.  Pray that they will have a great time spiritually as they are there.  Brianne Woods will be there as a staff member for Wild Week so that will be good for our folks and Brianne.

Louise Morris will be moved from the hospital to a convalescent facility at some point this week if everything goes as planned.  She has such a positive attitude.  Pray for her healing!

Leasa Salter remains hospitalized too.  Do not know when she may be discharged but pray that her temperature will go back to normal and the wound will heal without surgery.

Edna Glover has two brothers in the hospital in the Laurel, MS area.  Pray for them.

Bro. Sonny Bates is out of town so I did not get to talk to him last night about the deacon nominations.  They closed yesterday.  We will give an update once Bro. Sonny and I get together.

Our schedule for this Sunday, 7/3, will be the same as usual.  I can tell you that the Sunday night service will feature something that has never happened in the history of Friendship Baptist Church.  Folks, it is not a gimmick but rather a blessing.

By the way, we will be observing the ordinance of baptism and the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper this Sunday night as a part of our evening service.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 6/23/11

Word is that Miss Louise Morris “looks” better but that is coming from laymen and not the doctors.  I have been told that she has kept her sense of humor which does not surprise me at all.  Pray for Louise and her family.

Bernard’s daughter Leasa remains hospitalized in Jackson, MS.  They are not going to do surgery at this time.  Pray that her wound will heal properly.

Tomorrow night is a big night for the Friendship family as we host the men from the Mission of Hope.  My prayer is that this will be a good experience for the men as well as our church family.  You are invited to take part in that service (7:00PM) and the fellowship to follow in the CAB.

Deidra went home yesterday and Soy got “scared” during the night so he made a pallet on the floor in my room.  (Those Spiderman pajamas are killing me!)  One question, “why me Lord?”

I pray that your Thursday will be great with Jesus!

WEDNESDAY, 6/22/11

If you will read the comments on yesterday’s post, you will see that Bernard Suthoff’s daughter, Leasa, is back in a Jackson, MS hospital.  She has a sore on her back, has been running a fever, and other stuff.  Pray for her.

I have not gotten any other updates from home so I cannot comment on Louise Morris or others.  However, I do ask that you pray for her, those battling cancer, et cetera.

Deidra is flying home today as scheduled.  She has already checked in and is waiting to board the plane.  Pray for her safety in travel.  It has been good to have her here.

Believe it or not, Kirk Lightfield, Juan Marcos Ruiz, and another guy recovered the data from my old hard drive and installed a new hard drive on my laptop.  Amazing!  (At least to me!)  The cost?  $80 give or take a dollar or two.  And to think that all of these years I was thinking Chris Taylor was the computer guru!  I really give the Lord credit for fixing this problem and for using these guys to do it.  Thank you Kirk & Juan Marcos!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 6/21/11

I know that many of your are already aware of the fact that Louise Morris had a stroke yesterday.  It is my understanding that it will be today noon before the doctors will fully know the effects.  Pray for Louise and her family.

Adam Cordelle is also in the hospital but I am told that he is doing better.  Pray for him.

Our GROW visitation takes place tonight beginning at 6:30PM.

The Friendship family has the unique opportunity to host the men from the Mission of Hope this Friday night.  The service will begin at 7:00PM with a time of fellowship in the CAB immediately following.  For more info, contact the church office or call Kenny Lingle.

This Sunday, 6/26, is the final opportunity for members of the Friendship family to nominate men to serve as deacons.  Those nominations must be in writing and given to Sonny Bates or the pastor.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 6/20/11

I trust that everyone had a good Father’s Day.  I did in spite of the fact that I was not with three of our four daughters.  Dana & Gina sent me cards while Daphne sent me an e-mail.  I am a blessed father.

I did not get a report from home so I can only assume that all went well yesterday in the services.  Things went well here as we listened to Josue Chavis bring a message from Galatians 6:1-10.  It was not translated which meant some of our folks did not understand any of it but we still had a good time in worship.

It is my understanding that Louise Morris will have surgery tomorrow to remove her gall bladder.  Pray for her.

My MacBook Pro totally crashed Saturday.  Kirk Lightfield & Juan Marcos Ruiz are trying to repair it.  Please pray that they can get it up and going.  What happened?  Do not have a clue!

It is 3:20AM here and I am headed out the door for an airport run.  We have a team member who needs to go home.  Pray that she will find favor with Delta and get a seat on the respective flights.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 6/17/11

Bro. Jerry sent me an update to basically say that things are well with no significant news.  That is good!  He did mention that one of Edna Glover’s brothers took a fall in which he broke a rib which in turn punctured a lung.  Pray for him.

My Uncle Henry’s funeral will take place this morning at 11:00AM.  I am here in Guatemala in body but my mind is in Hartselle today.  Aunt Peggy asked  me to help with his service and that would have been a high honor for me.  However, God knew beforehand the situation how all of this was going to take place and I trust Him completely.  I simply ask that you pray for Aunt Peggy and the family during the service today.

All is well in Guatemala.  I am posting on the GRACE blog site too.  It appears we are going to be working in the rain and that is okay.  This group seems eager to get started.  Pastor Doug Chappelle has brought a great group from Thelma Baptist and they have already been a blessing.  Pray for today to be a great first day of ministry.

Unless something happens, I will not post again on this blog until Monday morning.  I ask the members of the Friendship family to be faithful this weekend.  I believe we have mature folks who go to church “for the Lord” and not because of who is, or is not, preaching.  Bro. Jerry Hovel is preaching our morning services, Bro. Jerry Whitmore the afternoon service, and Bro. Robbie Howard the evening service.  Pray for these men and support them by being in attendance.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 6/16/11

Millie Spiller’s sister, Opal Scull, is not doing well physically.  Over the past several months, she has been up and down but she seems pretty low now according to Bro. Jerry.

Phil Morgan’s mother, Valerie Morgan, is back in the  hospital.  If memory serves me correctly, this is her third time within the past six weeks to be hospitalized.

One of Raymond Wilkinson’s brothers is in need of a heart cath.  It appears that could take place tomorrow.

My dad’s youngest brother, Henry Turrentine, passed away shortly before noon yesterday.  Lisa called me with the news as we were driving back from El Salvador.  Honestly, I got a really tough headache (very uncommon for me) afterwards and was literally sick.  Sleep was almost non-existent to me last night as my mind raced down memory lane.  Uncle Henry was a very simple man who loved his family and the outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He has lived between my parents and his mother’s house all of my life.  He was very faithful to visit his mother every day when I was growing up and staying with her at night.  I can see him squatted down in Dwight Breedlove’s yard , smoking a cigarette, and hearing his wife, Peggy, step out on the front porch hollering, “Henry, supper is ready!”  Henry said he was a born again believer.  If so, that means he heard the Lord call “supper is ready” yesterday and he became absent from the body and immediately present with the Lord.

The funeral service will take place this Friday morning.  Obviously, I am not going to be there.  I hate it.  My dad only has one sibling remaining.  Pray for Aunt Peggy, sons Michael & Danny, my dad, Uncle Will and the family.  Thanks!

Things certainly got better for me as I got back from El Salvador to find Deidra at the mission house.  She & Soy decided to surprise me by having her show up.  Nice!  (Soy still wanted to sleep in the room with me last night but I said no way!)

It really got better when I heard from Daphne last night as they had just gotten a call from the doctor in Jackson, MS saying Emmy’s latest count (blood was drawn this past Monday) had gone down – praise the Lord!  (I just shouted a hallelujah!)  Another test will take place in two weeks and we are trusting the One who created Emmy!  Thank you for praying!

The Faith Baptist team left a few minutes ago and our first GRACE team of the summer is on the way.  Pray for both groups as they travel today.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus!
