SEPTEMBER 9/30/08

Wow, where did September go?  I have got to get started on my Christmas shopping!

Lisa and I went to see “Fireproof” yesterday afternoon.  You have to realize that I simply don’t do movies so I seldom make recommendations.  However, I strongly recommend every married couple and/or engaged couple go see this movie.  My offer from this past Sunday night still stands.  Is it a perfect movie?  No, but I firmly believe it is well worth seeing!

Curtis Wilkinson remains in ICU as they evaluate his situation.  Joyce Bosarge’s cancer is apparently being pretty aggressive and they are going to do some radiation this afternoon.  Carla Felps Kyser has a scan done today and another one on Thursday before seeing the doctor next Tuesday.  Bro. Jerry Hovel is having a nuclear stress test done today.  Gloria Whitmore had a relative (uncle, I believe) pass away yesterday.  Miss Irene Sessions, aunt of Sammy Bowden, Morris Bryant, & Brenda Moss, passed away last night.  So, pray for all of these various situations.

The House’s rejection of the bank bailout plan sent some shock waves throughout the world yesterday.  I am not a financial expert so I don’t understand all of the situation but I do know that God is in control.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus!

P.S. – Bret Hart, I hear they are close to getting electricity and a movie house in TN within the next five years so you guys will be able to watch those new movies like “Gone With The Wind”, et cetera!

MONDAY, 9/29/08

The Lord blessed us with another good day in our services yesterday.  It seemed that the members of the Friendship family embraced and accepted the “challenge” issued during the evening service.  It was a joy to see four more folks follow Jesus in believer’s baptism.  God is good!

Raymond’s dad, Mr. Wilkinson, coded again on Saturday morning.  He remains in ICU on a ventilator and they are keeping him sedated.  It doesn’t appear that he suffered any more damage but they aren’t sure why he continues to stop breathing.  Pray for him and the family as the doctors try to diagnose his case.

Miss Joyce Bosarge, Liz Whalen’s mother, was placed in a hospital Friday due to severe pain.  It appears the cancer has caused her to be suffering from a few cracked ribs.  Pray for Miss Joyce and her family as they deal with her situation.

It was good to see Carla Felps Kyser in our service yesterday morning.  Keep praying for Carla and the others battling cancer.

One week from today a group of eight pastors, one worship leader, and one layman will leave from Alabama (5), North Carolina (1), South Carolina (2), Texas (1), and Canada (1) bound for our first annual Pastors’ Conference in Guatemala.  The actual conference dates are 10/7 – 9 and your prayers for this conference will be greatly appreciated.

The Dodgers clinched the West but now have the difficult task of defeating the Cubs.  I will be pulling for the Dodgers but still feel this is the year of the Cubs.  However, the real story of the weekend was that Bama won – that is always a good thing.  Also, I appreciate AU beating UT!

Did you see where the guy in Utah was billed over $9,700 for water usage as his meter showed that he used 1.4 million gallons of water from December 19, 2007 through April 4, 2008?  It is a good thing he was on vacation part of that time or his bill would have been ridiculous!  He must have daughters!  He may want to contact Edwin Williams about a well!

There are 6.725 billion people on earth and the number of cell phones subscriptions is expected to reach 4 billion by the end of this year – wow!  I thought we had made great progress when we went from a four party line to a single party line!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 9/26/08

Curtis Wilkinson, Raymond’s dad, is still in very serious condition but his progress to this point is amazing the doctors.  He is doing things i.e. squeezing hands, responding to commands, et cetera that he is not supposed to be able to do.  He has movement in both arms and both legs.  He remains in ICU and is definitely in need of our continued prayer support but we do praise God for all He has done thus far.

The Dodgers won the west yesterday afternoon with the help of the Cardinals.  Go Dodger Blue!  It did me good last night to watch Mike Riley’s OSU team defeat USC.  I figure USC will still play in the national championship game in January but only time will tell.

Of course, the real football games take place tomorrow.  I like Mark Richt but I sure hope Bama can leave Athens with a “W” secured!  Bro. Benny McGath would leave there happy but Ethan would be sad.  I hope Benny is the happy one!

Our Sunday School class and Wednesday night 8:00PM Bible study group will be tailgating at the Bryant game tonight.  All folks involved in that class/Bible study are invited to join us at 6:00PM for burgers and dogs.

I have made a Wal Mart run and a Faith Academy run this morning so it is now time to hit the yard(s) with the mower.  What a beautiful day!  I hope your day is a great one with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 9/25/08

We had a good Wednesday capped by a good Bible study for our college/young professionals at Soy & Deidra’s house.  I really appreciate all of the folks who attend our Wednesday services/classes/Bible studies.  God is good!

As we were about to begin the 7:00PM service, I was informed by Tina that Raymond’s father, Curtis Wilkinson, had stopped breathing, and, once they revived him they had moved him into an ICU room.  I spoke to Raymond around 11:30PM and the neurosurgeon has determined that Mr. Wilkinson did have another stroke and there is surgically nothing they can do about it.  So, he is on a ventilator and it is a wait and see situation.  Pray for Curtis Wilkinson and his family!

Marisa Felps called me and said Carla did well through her treatment on Tuesday.  She went to work yesterday and that is a good thing.  Again, Carla has such an amazing attitude!

The challenge to the Friendship family comes this Sunday evening during the 6:00PM service.  I hope each member will be present for this service.

Those LA Dodgers are moving ever so close to clinching the NL West.  While I am not a huge fan of baseball, it is always good to see the Braves & Yankees sitting at home while the Dodgers play in the postseason!  However, I feel this may very well be the year of the Cubbies!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 9/24/08

It is 3:00AM and I am sure that many of you have been anxiously waiting through the night to see if the Friendship softball team won their game last night?  You have repeatedly checked al.com, ESPN, the local television stations, et cetera just to catch the score.  The answer is YES, 18 – 9, even though they were severly shorthanded and had multiple injuries.  Dunnam had a home run – massive hit!  The biggest news is that Rusty finally got a hit!  Plus, thanks to the kindness of a certain State Farm Insurance agent in Grand Bay, they even had new jerseys!

I did not get to check on Mr. Wilkinson yesterday but assume that he is still hospitalized.  I will check on him a little later this morning.  Also, I haven’t heard how Carla’s treatment went but assume all is okay there.

Mark Mast – the pastors’ conference schedule is set and we are going with it.  Thanks for your willingness to be flexible.

Today is scheduled to be a regular Wednesday around here with our morning service and evening activities.  I pray that the members of the Friendship family will join us!

The “challenge” to the Friendship family comes this Sunday evening as a part of our 6:00PM worship service.   I encourage each member to be present for that service.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 9/23/08

Surprisingly, no one mentioned the lack of an entry yesterday.  I am not sure what that means but hope it doesn’t mean no one is reading it any more.  I had good intentions such as waiting until after my hospital rounds to give an update.  However, upon my return to Grand Bay the day went by very rapidly and I never found the time to post.  Sorry about that!

A quick recap – we had a good weekend with three more baptisms and two more coming for baptism.  We will be observing the ordinance of baptism again this Sunday evening as a part of our worship service.  Thanks to all those who attended the visitation & funeral service for Idice Reeves on Saturday morning.  Thanks to those who prepared the meal for the Reeves family.  Thanks to those who attended the wedding ceremony for Eric Lofton & Brooke Ladnier in spite of some rainy weather.

Personally, I had a good weekend with a Bama win, a UT loss, and a ND loss!  Ironically, Deidra cooked supper on Saturday night and served pork chops!  (You have to realize that she doesn’t have a clue but it was awesome!)  The prodigal dog even came home – thanks Blo Joe & Cecil!

Raymond’s dad, Mr. Wilkinson, remains hospitalized but is recovering.  That is going to be a several months recovery time.  Pray for him.

I was made aware of another situation yesterday that demands confidentiality but I do ask that you pray.  God knows!

A good bit of my time yesterday was spent working on the schedule for the upcoming (10/7 – 9) pastors’ conference in Guatemala.  Please pray for that conference and the ten guys who will be leading it.

Continue to pray for Carla Kyser and Phyllis Bush in their respective battles against cancer.  Carla has another treatment today.

I had the privilege of leading someone to the Lord yesterday.  I fully expect they will come to church this Sunday and make their decision public.  Praise the Lord!

Well, the fabulous Friendship softball team takes the field again tonight at 7:00PM.  I am praying that Rusty will at least make contact!  I have much to do but, Lord willing, I will go to this game as I can always use comic relief!  Josh Woods is my hero!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus!

SUNDAY, 9/21/08

Curtis Wilkinson, Raymond’s dad, suffered a stroke on Friday.  He is in a local hospital but the doctors feel confident they know what caused the stroke and that they can correct it.  They feel that in a matter of months, Mr. Wilkinson, will be back to normal.  Pray for him.

Miss Irene Sessions, aunt of Morris Bryant & Brenda Moss, is in a local hospital too and is pretty low physically.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Jeff Switzer, Joey’s brother, pastors a Methodist Church in north Mississippi.  He will be preaching revival services at Midway Methodist in Pecan, Mississippi tomorrow night and Tuesday night beginning at 7:00PM nightly.

FRIDAY, 9/19/08

First, I want to make sure that the members of the Friendship family are aware of the service for Idice Reeves which will take place tomorrow (Saturday) with the visitation from 9:00 – 10:00AM and the service at 10:00AM.  Everything takes place from Mobile Memorial Funeral Home & Gardens.  I hope that a good number of our folks will be able to attend that visitation and/or service.

Also, Brooke Ladnier & Eric Lofton will be having their wedding ceremony tomorrow evening at 7:00PM.  This ceremony will take place at the home of Brian & Lisa Bellknap and all members of the Friendship family are invited to attend.

The visitation for Jenny Sue Stork (Lighthouse Restaurant) takes place tonight with a noon service tomorrow.  All of this will take place at Serenity Funeral Home.

Tomorrow is really a SEC football fan’s delight as Bama vs Arkansas is on television at 11:30AM, Florida (go Tim Tebow) vs that team from Knoxville is on at 2:30PM, LSWho vs Auburn is on at 6:45PM, and Georgia (go Mark Richt) vs Arizona State is on at 7:00PM.  (If I could only get Brooke & Eric to move their ceremony up by an hour!)  Of course, the day is beginning with the most important game and I have already heard from Louise Mason and Bret Hart.  I think I will have bacon for breakfast in the morning and, if Bama wins, pork chops for supper tomorrow night!

We are on schedule for a regular weekend and I hope that the members of the Friendship family will find their way to the services on Sunday.  Remember, we will be observing the ordinance of baptism as a part of our evening worship service.

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 9/18/08

We had a blessed Wednesday!  One of the highlights for me is to gather with the college/young professionals group at 8:00PM for Bible study.  We meet at Michael & Deidra’s and basically fill the place to overflowing.  Supper is served, Ralph Rimmer leads us in musical worship, and then we spend some time in the Word.  It is a good time of fellowship and discussion.  I would encourage any young adult to consider joining us for this Bible study time.

I stood beside the bed on Tuesday reading Scripture and praying with Miss Idice Reeves.  She seemingly didn’t know that I was there but I knew that she loved Jesus, His Word, and praying.  I am saddened by her passing but rejoicing that she is now is the presence of her Lord Jesus and with her husband, Ed, and daughter, Rachel.  I commend Denise & Adam along with their families for taking such good care of Miss Idice these past few years.

Our Upward basketball registration has begun.  Please contact Bro. Benny McGath to get a brochure or to receive more information.  The cost of participating has actually been decreased this year.  We are praying for good numbers in all six of our leagues.  As always, many volunteers are needed to help make Upward run smoothly.  Pray for Upward!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.
