CHURCH OFFICE CLOSED MONDAY MORNING, 4/3/17,

Due to the threat of severe weather, I made the decision to close the church office this morning, 4/3.  The office will be open from 1:00 – 5:00PM today.

I am in the office this morning should an emergency arise.  I would strongly suggest folks staying in place until the threat of these storms passes.

SUNDAY, 4/2/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 16-18; Luke 7:1-30

The celebration of life service for Lisa Davie Thompson takes place this afternoon beginning at 2:00PM.  A one hour visitation with the family will precede the service.  Everything will take place at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, Alabama.  Keep praying for Lisa’s family.

Sharon Jardee remains in the hospital.  I went to visit with her yesterday but she was sleeping soundly.  She should have another surgical procedure early this week if all goes as planned.

Ruby Gulley was discharged from the hospital on Friday.  I know she is happy to be home.

Regular schedule today and tonight.  We will focus on a miracle of Jesus this morning and then will be in chapter six tonight.  My prayer is that the members of the Friendship family will be faithful!

Deacons meet today at 4:00PM.

Missions Committee meets today at 5:00PM.

SNBA tonight following the service.

I do not have a report on yesterday’s soccer action except to say that the crowd was huge.  I will talk to PT today to get an update.

Bro. Jim and the students had a good day of paint balling yesterday.  Some of the students joined Bro. Jim in helping at the work day before heading to the paint ball field.

Our work day was great!  Really good attendance.  Much accomplished.  Much discarded.  Thank you to each person who came and helped.  Your help was greatly appreciated.

You should notice two things today as you drive on our campus.  First, the West house is gone.  Second, the area behind the office building has been filled with three loads of dirt.  Obviously, we are asking folks to stay off of that area with vehicles.  This will continue to be the case from this point forward.  Likewise, we ask folks to not drive/park on the grass in front of the office building.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in these matters.

A group of about seven guys took part in a ministry project yesterday morning.  They did well.  I appreciate them going the extra mile to minister.  Good stuff!

Got to watch the second half of the first game last night and almost all of the second game.  As I wrote this past Monday, it is going to be a Gonzaga/UNC title game.  I picked UNC from the start so I will stay with that pick.  Nanette still has that California school as her pick.  We shall see!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 4/1/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 13-15; Luke 6:27-49

Our Spring work day begins this morning at 7:00AM.  I am about to go get the biscuits (out of the oven?) while Lisa goes to Sugar Rush for the sugar fix.  We need as many hands on deck as possible.   We will finish no later than noon.

I need a few men to leave the work day and help me with a ministry project today.  Pole saws, lopers, weed eaters, rakes, et cetera are needed.  No riding mowers needed.  John Milton Ladnier got a jump on this ministry project yesterday.  I appreciate that so much!

The Friendship soccer leagues begin play today at 8:00AM.  All games will be on the middle school campus.  Thanks to all who are helping with these leagues.  We have well over one hundred children involved.  Pray for this ministry.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  Deacons meet at 4:00PM.  Missions Committee meets at 5:00PM.  SNBA at 7:00PM.

The celebration of life service for Lisa Davie Thompson takes place at 2:00PM tomorrow, 4/1, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family one hour prior to the service.  Pray for Britnie, Mr. Jack, Brenda and all of the family.

Greg Boutwell was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.  Hooray!

Sharon Jardee remains in the hospital and, as far as I know, so does her sister, Ruby Gulley.  Pray for these ladies.  I am going to try to squeeze in a visit this afternoon.

Deacon Bill Kendrick visited with Oscar Petersen yesterday afternoon and said he is doing really good.  Still a bit unsteady on his feet but otherwise is doing well.  Keep praying for Oscar.

Rusty moved out at 11:59PM last night.  I said, “why are you leaving so late?” to which he replied, “getting as much out of my rent as possible!”   I said, “you have not been paying rent which is why you got evicted!”  No reply.  He did tell me that he cranked the air conditioner unit down to sixty as he was walking out the door?  (Just wanted to awaken Charles this morning!).

Was able to get the garden plowed yesterday.  A very, very good friend gave me a basically brand new tiller and it is sweet!  I am very grateful!

SEC, SEC, SEC!  First, I did not even know the NCAA women’s tourney semifinals were being played last night.  Just being honest.  Second, I did not know that South Carolina and Mississippi State were in those games.  However, when I saw that State upset UConn I was happy for them.  An all SEC final.  Sweet!  I want to commend UConn’s coach, Geno Auriemma, for the way he handled himself following their first defeat since 2014 – 111 consecutive wins!  In my opinion, he was all class.

Looking forward to hopefully catching some of the men’s games tonight.  Depends on what I get done today following work day.  I am going with USC & Oregon to win tonight.

Here is a progress report on my chicken coup being built by Soy –

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 3/31/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 11-12; Luke 6:1-26

It is with a sad heart that I write this morning to say that Lisa Davie Thompson passed from this life yesterday afternoon.  She was taken to a local hospital via ambulance after being found unresponsive at home by her sister, Brenda Timberlake.  Obviously, the arrangements are incomplete at this time.  I ask you to pray for Lisa’s family during this most difficult time in their lives.

The visitation with the Falana family will take place today from noon until 2:00PM at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore, Alabama.  Kendall’s niece was tragically taken from this life in an automobile accident this past Sunday morning.  She was twenty six years old. Pray for the family and for the service.

The arrangements for Pastor Alvin Tucker mirror those for Kendall’s niece with the only exception being location.  Everything for Pastor Alvin will take place at First Baptist Silas, Alabama.  I had intended to attend that service but will now be with Kendall and family instead.  Pray for Bro Johnny and family during this time.

I prayed with Sharon Jardee before her surgery yesterday and was then called about Lisa Thompson’s situation which kept me occupied for the remainder of the day.  As far as I know, Sharon did well and will have her leg fused at some point next week.  Keep praying for Sharon.

I visited with Ruby Gulley yesterday morning but she was sleeping so I did not awaken her.

Greg Boutwell was waiting to see if “might” could be discharged yesterday afternoon.  They were waiting on one more test result.  I can tell you that he is more than ready to be home!  Pray for Greg!

Work day tomorrow, 4/1, beginning at 7:00AM with a biscuit breakfast.  We will conclude no later than noon.  We have the tractor, front end loader and box blade needed.  Bring tools for yard work too.  The dumpster is in place thanks to Leslie Hacker.

The Friendship soccer league begins play tomorrow, 4/1, at 8:00AM.  Pray for this ministry.

Men, we have a ministry opportunity that was presented to me yesterday.  It involves yard work.  Will take maybe ninety minutes if we have four or five guys with equipment.  We will move from the church work day to this opportunity.  If you will help, let me know.  Thanks!

Well, we lose a neighbor today as Rusty is moving.  I have been trying to tell Rusty that he needed to keep his rent payments current but the boy will not listen!  I just hope his landlord does not have to involve the deputies.

Rusty’s eviction got me to thinking – Soy will be moving in June.  I began to count up the number of hours Soy & Rusty have helped with the yard care during their time on the hill.  Realize we are talking six years for Soy and three years for Rusty.  My calculations show that together they have helped a total of around three hours and twelve minutes with all of that being on a riding mower!  I could be off by a few minutes one way or the other.  As mama always said, “it is hard to get good help these days!”

Walmart, the garden and the yard are calling my name!  Lisa is screaming at me to get busy!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 3/30/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 9-10; Luke 5:17-39

Sharon Jardee will not have a knee put back into her leg today.  Instead, they will do a procedure before fusing her leg together next week.  Pray that all goes well.

After writing yesterday  that Greg Boutwell has a staph infection, I am happy to write this morning that it now appears he does not have staph!  False positive on the initial test.  A new culture is being grown but the doctors feel it his infection is not staph.  Greg was in a much better frame of mind yesterday and I certainly understand!  Happy for him!

Ruby seemed to think she was going to be moved to a regular room at some point yesterday afternoon.  Did that happen?  Not sure.  She was off of the vent and had not iv which is good.

Good day in our services yesterday morning and evening.  We give God the glory!

Work day Saturday beginning with biscuit breakfast at 7:00AM.

Friendship soccer begins this Saturday at 8:00AM.

Kim French will be joining her friend, Dr. John, this Saturday in a “Bowlin’ for the Colon” fundraiser.  She will probably wear the t-shirt to church on Sunday morning!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 3/29/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 7-8; Luke 5:1-16

I knew that something had changed in Greg Boutwell’s condition as I walked up to his hospital yesterday morning.  All of that contact isolation stuff was hanging from his door.  He had just been told that he now has a staph infection in one of his legs.  He was pretty disappointed and I do not blame him.  Where did this staph come from?  Pray for Greg!

Ruby Gulley is in SICU.  She is on a ventilator and did not appear too happy whenever I visited with her yesterday.  I think she is mainly in the unit in order for the medical staff to monitor her very closely.

Sharon Jardee is scheduled to have surgery late tomorrow morning.  They removed her knee some months ago and the plan is to put one back in place.

Kendall Falana had a niece to pass from this life in an automobile accident this past Sunday morning.  I do not know the arrangements but do ask you to pray for the Falana family as they go through this most difficult time.

Pastor Alvin Tucker passed from this life last Friday, 3/24.  The visitation and service will take place this Friday, 3/31, in Silas, Alabama.  Of course, this is Bro. Johnny’s father.  Bro. Alvin was ninety four years old.  He gave me my very first opportunity to preach after I made my call to the ministry public.  That was on Saturday evening, August 9, 1975.  Even gave me an honorarium.  (How did I do?  You heard me preach lately?)

Regular schedule this morning and evening.  Friendship family, let’s be found faithful.  The fare for the 7:30PM Bible study is poppy seed chicken with all of the trimmings.  It will be awesome!

We had a night of TNBA last night.  Good time of fellowship.  I know you will find this difficult to believe but I did not play on the winning team a single time.  Got stuck with Bradley Phillips on my team and I simply could not carry him!  Lord willing, we will have SNBA this Sunday following our evening service.

Soy is enlarging my chicken coop.  He is doing a really good job.  (He should be as he has been working on it for about six weeks now).  As soon as it is finished, I am going to enlarge the flock.  May retire and become a full time chicken farmer!  (Not really!)

Work day this Saturday, 4/1, beginning at 7:00AM.  Need a tractor and box blade.  Anyone have one and willing to come use it?  Contact me.

I need an IT guy.  Having no success in getting a volunteer.

I am thinking the West house will be razed this week.

Tico Vargas has an important meeting in Guatemala City for GRACE Ministries today.  Pray for that meeting to go well.

Deacons meet with me this Sunday, 4/2, at 4:00PM.  Missions committee will then meet with me at 5:00PM.  Brothers/sisters, please note those meetings!

I am going with Gonzaga (for Nanette) and UNC to win this Saturday and then UNC to win it all next Monday night.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 3/28/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 4-6; Luke 4:31-44

Found out late yesterday afternoon that Ruby Gulley was admitted to the hospital on Sunday night.  It is my understanding that her oxygen level is too low again.

Also was told that Sharon Jardee will having surgery this Thursday.

Greg Boutwell was in good spirits and seemed to be doing some better.  He “could” be discharged either today or tomorrow.  That is most likely dependent on when they can get him on a pill vs iv.  The doctors are thinking they “may” have found a way to help Greg’s condition.

Richard Glass was supposed to me moved to a rehab facility yesterday.  The hospital told Lisa that he was not a patient there so I am assuming that transfer happened.  I will find out for sure today.

Our prayer time numbers were up a bit last night.  Still not great but I am very, very thankful to each person who comes to pray.

Nanette Brooks Fontenot is kind of upset with me again!  Why?  I have not mentioned her pick in the NCAA tourney.  (I did not even know she had filled out a bracket).  Anyway, she picked Gonzaga.  Her reasoning?  (She knows nothing about basketball). She said the when we dated we talked about possibly moving to California once we were married so she picked a California school.  I explained to her that Gonzaga is located in Washington but she just blew up murmuring something about I was not paying her any attention!  Says she does not like David French as he is getting the attention!  What is that all about?

Dr. Rex, will have those figures to you at some point today.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 3/27/17

“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” I Peter 4:10

Today’s Bible reading – Judges 1-3; Luke 4:1-30
Tuesday, March 28 – Judges 4-6; Luke 4:31-44
Wednesday, March 29 – Judges 7-8; Luke 5:1-16
Thursday, March 30 – Judges 9-10; Luke 5:17-39

Friday, March 31 – Judges 11-12; Luke 6:1-26

Saturday, April 1 – Judges 13-15; Luke 6:27-49

Sunday, April 2 – Judges 16-18; Luke 7:1-30

We were blessed with a good day in our services yesterday.  Another really good day in all three of our services.  I continue to be very blessed by our Sunday evening attendance.  Thank you Friendship family for being faithful!  I do love the Friendship family!

I will be making the hospital rounds and posting updates later.  As far as I know, Greg Boutwell and Richard Glass remain hospitalized.

It is my understanding that Maria Wainwright’s mother, Mrs. Hamilton, will be having exploratory surgery today.

Brooke shared yesterday in Sunday School that her great grandmother, Mrs. Moates, suffered a stroke over the weekend.  Do not know all of the details but do ask that you join me in praying.

Keep praying for Becky Sellers, Lisa Thompson and Courtney Hubbard in their respective battles against cancer.

Speaking of prayer, prayer time tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM in the auditorium.  Hope to be joined by many!

Because it was a Sunday, I did not get to watch much of the tourney live.  I did watch the final three minutes of the UF/USC game.  Disappointed for Rick Bradley but glad to see a team go to the Final Four for the first time.  Fortunately, no one told me the score of the UK/UNC game which I recorded so I watched it once the six tornadoes had left the house last night.  Really good game.  I would have been fine if UK had won but did I did pick UNC to win it all from the start.  I am thinking a Gonzaga/UNC final.

By the way, David French told me yesterday morning that picking Michigan to make the Final Four cost him nothing.  However, picking Kim to be his wife has cost him plenty.  He makes a good point!

Deidra and Daphne were offended by my message last night – imagine that!  I said, “I told Kirk that if you knew my family then you admit yourself to a mental ward!”  Deidra and Daphne thought I was referencing them.  I was!  Nothing to see here, move along!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.
