TUESDAY, 3/23/10

Pattie Suthoff called last night to say that Gage Hudson will begin his radiation & chemotherapy this Thursday, 3/25.  At this point, the doctors don’t feel they can shrink the tumor but will attempt to keep it from growing any larger.  Gage and his mother, Callie, have excellent attitudes and are doing everything within their power to fight this cancer.  Pray for Gage and his family.

The funeral service for Miss Muriel Phillips will take place today at noon from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home.  Pray for Pastor Travis as he preaches his grandmother’s funeral.  Thanks to those who are bringing food to help feed the family after the service.  Thanks for being ministers!

Sammy Bowden spent the day in the CAB yesterday working on the electrical part of Phase I and he was joined later by Les Hacker, John Ladnier, Joey Guidry, Eric Lofton, & Tony Hacker as they hung the doors, ran the chair rail, and placed plywood in the attic.  Thanks guys for a great day!

We have an urgent need for folks who can caulk and/or paint the doors, frames, and chair rail.  Folks who are retired, have off days during the week, et cetera are asked to give us a hand this week.  You can call the church office and Miss Edna will put you in touch with Tony or me.

Anyone wishing to be a part of the GRACE Ministries trip being led by Bro. Jerry Hovel the dates of July 15 – 22, 2010 needs to contact him immediately.  He is about to purchase the tickets.  Those who have already signed up need to reconfirm with Bro. Jerry either today or tomorrow.

So, I send Soy & Josh Woods to Lowe’s this past Saturday to purchase some light fixtures and bulbs for the rooms being remodeled in Phase I.  I wanted Soy to go alone but he needed a “friend” to go along as he was scared.  I didn’t see them leave but I did see them return and they had taken Kyle Bryant with them.  It takes three guys to buy light fixtures & bulbs?  Here’s the clincher – they bought the wrong bulbs!  I had the joy of missing the NCAA tourney Saturday afternoon in order to go to Lowe’s to get the correct bulbs!  The moral of the story?  Never send Curly, Larry, & Mo to Lowe’s!

Rex Looney, you picking UAH to make it to the Frozen Four?

I gotta get with Chris, the computer expert, (wink, wink!) to see if I can upload a video to this blog.  If so, you need to see it!  If not, you’ll never know.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

P.S. – We need folks to caulk & paint!

MONDAY, 3/22/10

The Lord blessed us with an awesome day yesterday!  Praise His holy name!  We saw three professions of faith, one desiring membership by baptism and three desiring membership by transfer of letter.  We then baptized two folks as a part of last night’s worship service.  Yes, God gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

The visitation with the Muriel Phillips family will take place tonight from 5:00 – 8:00PM at Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore.  The service will be held at noon tomorrow, 3/23.  Pastor Travis will be preaching and I will be assisting him.

We need help feeding the Phillips family tomorrow after the service.  If you can help, please call Miss Edna in the church office today – 445 5412.  We need the food at the church no later than 10:30AM tomorrow.  Thanks in advance for your help!

The work day this past Saturday was a blessing!  Much was accomplished and we praise God for folks who have a mind to work!  Tony Hacker will be leading another Phase I work effort tonight beginning at 6:00PM.  This will be to hang doors, run chair rail, prepare the attic to be a storage place.  We will also clean the rooms a bit more and we can begin painting the doors & trim plus caulking.  Much to be done as we hope to have Phase I finished by this weekend.

It was the best/worse case scenario for me regarding my bracket this weekend.  I had KU as my winner but was delighted to see them upset by NIU as I am not a KU/Bill Self fan.  My record heading into the Sweet Sixteen is 36 – 12 which is average at best.  However, I can still go 7 – 1 out of the SS and 3 – 1 out of the Elite Eight.  Chris Taylor is running second in our little competition at 33 – 15.  Soy?  A joke at 30 – 18 but at least he has spelled some the of teams correctly!  TJ Vice?  Got scared after last year’s competition and didn’t even enter this year!

This week provides the real bracket!  I am thinking of going with UAH but I may take either UM (Miami or Ohio or Michigan).  Huh?  Frozen Four baby!  Tim Mast, who you taking?

Hope you have a great Monday with Jesus!

P.S. – I think I will go to the doctor today – it’s free isn’t it?  I cannot believe Rep. Stupak put his faith in an executive order.

SATURDAY, 3/20/10

Work day begins in a little over two hours and my hope is that a good number of folks will join us for this effort.  We begin at 8:00AM and will finish no later than noon.

John Curl & Kenny Lingle did more painting last night but I can’t comment on the job they did as I haven’t seen the finished product yet.  I use “they” very lightly in regard to Deacon Kenny being involved.

Bus visitation begins at 8:30AM and the community outreach led by Bro. Jerry begins at 9:00AM.  Pray for these ministries.

My bracket fared much better yesterday as I went 14 – 2 brining my first round total to 24 – 8 which is great.  However, there is much worse news – eight of our young adults from the 8:00PM Wednesday night Bible study also filled out brackets.  I fared better than all of them except for Soy & Caryn Hyatt as they too went 24 – 8.  It doesn’t bother me to be tied with Caryn!

I can go 15 – 1 over the next two days while Caryn’s best can be no better than 14 – 2 and Soy’s best 13 – 3.  Time will tell!

Rumor has it that Rex Looney went 32 – 0 in the first round.  He simply fills his bracket in as the games are completed.  I don’t think he gets the concept!  Joe David Baily copied my bracket as our Final Four picks are an exact match.

MURIEL PHILLIPS ENTERS HEAVEN

Pastor Travis Northcutt called at 8:45PM to share that his grandmother, Miss Muriel Phillips, passed from this life around 8:30PM.  Pray for the Phillips family as they go through this time of sorrow.

FRIDAY, 3/19, UPDATES

Eula Mae e-mailed to say that Susan is at home but remains in considerable pain.  They may get the results next week from the surgery.  Eula Mae is thanking God for His goodness!

Pattie Suthoff called with an update on Gage.  He & his mother got home from Birmingham last night.  Gage will receive his treatments in Mobile and that will consist of six weeks of radiation (5 days each week) and an oral chemotherapy.  So, keep praying for Gage.

FRIDAY, 3/19/10

Pastor Terry Joe Rainey called me yesterday afternoon asking that we pray for him.  He had a MRI done because of back problems and they found a cyst on one of his kidneys.  He meets with another doctor today to begin the process of learning whether it is malignant or not.  He asked the Friendship family to pray.

Pastor Travis Northcutt and his family were set to drive through the night as his grandmother, Miss Muriel Phillips, has slipped into a coma.  The medical folks feel she is down to hours of earthly life remaining.

Mary Cook sent me an e-mail asking us to pray for Charlotte Ladnier.  She went in for a routine surgery and something has gone wrong.  She is in an ICU in a local hospital.  Mary works with her daughter-in-law.

Bill Abendroth has had his first chemotherapy treatment and will receive another one in a couple of weeks.  He is doing well.

I did not get an update on Gage Hudson’s meeting with the doctor.  Keep praying for Susan Quinn, Carla Kyser, Miss Joyce Bosarge, and all of the others on our prayer list.

Chris Taylor is a fraud when it comes to his “computer” skills!  I gave him a phone to “unlock” yesterday and he couldn’t do it!  He will be at work day tomorrow and I will not let him get by with working on electronics!

Cooter Walton is the man!  Check out the new dumpster bin!  Danville Baptist & Crosspointe only wish they had one looking that good!  Sorry, they don’t have Cooter!  A man with a name derived from the “Dukes of Hazard” and “The Waltons” combined has to be good!  Thanks Cooter!

John Curl & Kenny Lingle did an awesome job of painting in the CAB last night.  (Actually, when I went in to check on them, John was painting while Deacon Kenny sipped on his coffee?)  Phase I is moving along nicely!

My NCAA bracket got blown up yesterday as I went a dismal 10 – 6.  Thanks for nothing SDSU, Georgetown, Vandy, Texas, Marquette, & Notre Dame!  However, I lost no sleep over seeing Georgetown, Texas or ND go down to defeat.  My upset special today involves Siena beating Purdue.  By the way, I have Syracuse, Kansas, West Virginia, & Duke in the Final Four.  I am not a prophet or the son of a prophet but I do work for a non profit organization so take it to the bank!

The excuses keep rolling in regarding work day.  Yesterday I heard, “I have a class reunion to attend!”  Please, class reunions take place in May!  Plus, how many class reunions take place from 8:00AM until noon on a Saturday?  I feel like I am dealing with JD Bailey & Jason Bowling!  Actually, those two would show up and just complain the entire four hours!  Now, the prayer “ride” taking place tomorrow would suit them just fine!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 3/18/10

It was a good surprise to have Doug Beck from the International Ministries Center (Mobile Baptist Association)  join us for our 7:00PM service last night.

Gage Hudson is in Birmingham today and has a 1:00PM consultation with the doctor.  Pray for that situation as they determine a course of action/treatment for the tumor.

Miss Merle (I think I may be misspelling her name) Phillips continues to weaken physically.  The family is now simply keeping her comfortable with medications.  Pastor Travis is sitting by the phone waiting to come home as soon as needed.  He will probably come home Monday regardless but could get called home earlier.

Susan B. Quinn continues to recover from her surgery.  Miss Joyce Bosarge hasn’t begun her newest round of radiation yet.  Carla Kyser continues to take her treatments.  Bill Abendroth is taking treatments for his cancer. Bobby Jack Felps & Steve Morris continue to recover at home from their respective surgeries.  Kevin Vice’s brother, Dennis, has been diagnosed with cancer and it is an advanced stage.  Nancy West is expected to see a doctor today to set up gall bladder surgery.

“And they all with one consent began to make excuse!”  (Luke 14:18)  We have our work day this Saturday, 3/20, from 8:00AM until noon.  Some folks have legitimate reasons i.e. work, sickness  for not being able to attend but I have also heard some “excuses” i.e. “I have to go to a mandatory meeting at the hunting club”; “I need to meet a guy in New Orleans”; “my lawnmower is red”; et cetera.  We need a good showing as we continue our “March to Easter” by getting the church grounds/buildings ready.

I have to decide by noon today but I think I am going to stick with Kansas to win it all.  Talent coupled with experience means a lot when it comes tourney time and Kansas has both.  My heart wants to pick Bama but I probably will go with my head.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 3/17/10

It is “work week” around Friendship and yesterday saw Gary “Cooter” Walton doing some concrete work.  Thanks to Danny Lewis for getting the area prepped on Monday and to Gary for getting the work done yesterday.

The renovation work in the CAB continues to move along too.  Tony Hacker and the committee are doing a nice job of leading this effort.  Hopefully, we can get the three displaced classes back into their rooms this Sunday, 3/21.

We have been told of a material that can be placed on a wall that allows you to use tacks, push pins, et cetera and it is self healing.  Problem is we can’t find any place that actually has this material in use.  Anyone in cyberland know anything about this “miracle” material or are we looking for Big Foot?

The renovation committee meets tonight, 3/17, at 6:30PM in the CAB.

Today is a regular day at Friendship with our 10:00AM service followed by the evening services/Bible studies.

I have to fill out my bracket for the NCAA tourney today.  I am going to go with UAPB over Winthrop but that is as far as I have gotten thus far.  Our 8:00PM Bible study group members will get the opportunity to fill out a bracket tonight.  I am thinking the Jayhawks will be the eventual champions but haven’t penciled them in just yet.  (I am not a Bill Self fan but he probably isn’t losing sleep over that fact!)

The Lakers won again last night and that is a good thing.  I was glad to see MSU win too in the NIT.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 3/16/10

Lisa and I had a nice visit last night with a family considering becoming a part of the Friendship family.  What has drawn them to Friendship?  Their teenager’s involvement in our student ministry and their belief that their child is being taught the Word on Wednesday nights.  I anticipate their “officially” becoming members this coming Sunday.

Wes & Rebekah came by yesterday morning and we spent some time discussing ministry.  Pray for them and their ministry in Texas.

I spoke with the sheetrock guys yesterday and they plan on being finished with their part of Phase I tomorrow.  We will then move to the painting portion which will be led (done) by John Curl.  After that, we have to run base, hang doors, put up marker boards, cork boards, et cetera and we are good to.  So, another “demolition” work day is nearing.

Speaking of the CAB renovation, we need to meet with that committee tomorrow night at 6:30PM.

We will observe the ordinance of baptism this Sunday as a part of our evening service.  Baptismal candidates need to meet in my office at 5:30PM.

It is work week.  I appreciate those who helped yesterday.  Don’t forget – this Saturday, 3/20, from 8:00AM until noon.

Lori Bailey is having surgery in Decatur, AL this morning.  Pray for her.  I spoke to Sandy G. via the phone yesterday and they are beginning to get out and take care of some business.  Caroline Ford continues to have health problems.  Keep praying for Miss Joyce, Carla, Bill, & Miss Merle in their respective battles against cancer.  Keep praying for Susan Quinn in Greenville, SC.  Bobby Jack & Steve continue to recover at home from their respective surgeries.

We are “Marching to Easter” and we need each member of the Friendship family to be actively involved in every phase of our church life.  Invite family/friends to join you for the Easter services.

It’s all good!  The Lakers won again last night.  That is nine straight wins against Golden State but who is counting?  The only downer is that the Celtics won again too.  Have I ever mentioned that I don’t like the Celtics?

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 3/15/10

The “spring forward” did hurt our attendance some but not as much as I thought it might.  It had much more of an effect on our early service.  The evening service was well attended.  Thank you to all who remembered to spring forward and then came to the services!

Mark Mast did a very nice job of “preaching the Word” in our morning services yesterday and then during our afternoon service.  I appreciate his spirit and his obvious love for Jesus.  It was good to have Mark, Tina, & Ben with us for a couple of days.

Wes Bates is a “son in the ministry” to me and it was great to have him preach for us in last night’s service.  He did a very nice job too.  It is always good to see Wes & Rebekah!

While we didn’t have any public decisions in our services yesterday, I was able to make a couple of appointments for this week.  I anticipate decisions this coming Sunday.  By the way, we will observe the ordinance of baptism as a part of our evening service this Sunday, 3/21.

Keep praying for all those on our list especially Susan Quinn, Gage Hudson, & Jayne English.  Miss Joyce Bosarge will begin radiation in the near future and Bill Abrendroth is taking treatments now too.  It was good to see Miss Kathleen Henderson in our first service yesterday morning.

This is “work week” at Friendship.  It will culminate with a work day this Saturday, 3/20, from 8:00AM until noon.  Our focus will be on getting the buildings & grounds ready for the Easter weekend.  Each member of the Friendship family is asked to help in some way this week.

Don’t forget that Bro. Jerry is hosting a “yard sale” in the CAB this Thursday, Friday, & Saturday.  Any proceeds will go to missions in Guatemala.  Contact him for more information of donating goods.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.
