TUESDAY, 1/17/12

The funeral service for Ray Versiga will take place this afternoon beginning at 2:00PM from the chapel of the Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore.  It will be preceded by an hour of visitation beginning at 1:00PM.

If you are bringing food for the Versiga family, please make sure it is at the church no later than 10:30AM today.  I will go unlock the fellowship hall a little after 6:00AM today for those needing to bring their food early.

The visitation with the Earl Gunter family will begin this afternoon at 5:00PM.  (It is respectfully requested that folks give the family their hour of privacy and not come until 5:00PM)  The visitation will last until 8:00PM or until the family decides to go home.

Pray for the Mays family as they gather for a private service today for Miss Vera.

Our senior adults will have a breakfast meeting this morning in the west house.  All senior adults are invited to attend this time of food and fellowship.

The Orange team will meet for GROW visitation tonight beginning at 6:30PM.

We will have our 10:00AM service tomorrow with the only change being that we will meet in the fellowship hall.  Lisa and I will provide donuts and coffee as we will be sitting around tables for this service.  (We are Baptists and, if we are going to be sitting around tables, we need food!)  The evening service/activities will be on a regular schedule.

The Moline, MI team is in their final two days of ministry in Guatemala using the mission house as their base.  They have had a good week thus far.  Pray that they will have a strong finish!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 1/16/12

First, I want to say a huge “thank you” to each person who is ministering to either the Versiga family and/or the Gunter family.  What a blessing to see you being His hands!

If you are bringing food for the Versiga family, it needs to be at the church no later than 10:30AM tomorrow, 1/17.

If you are bringing food for the Gunter family, it needs to be at the church no later than 11:00AM on Wednesday, 1/18.

Please note that our Wednesday morning service will take place in the fellowship hall.  Lisa and I will provide coffee and donuts!

We had a good day in our services yesterday.  The Down East Boys did a nice job of ministering in last night’s service.  Thank you for giving financially to their ministry.

I came home from the evening service and enjoyed a fresh tomato sandwich thanks to Jimmy & Dee Taggert and Charles & Johnnie Grant.  Folks, for a small fee, I can hook you up!  LOL while I wipe the mayo off the side of my mouth!

I was disappointed in the Saints loss as I thought they might go all the way this year!  I had no expectation that the Broncos would even come close against the Pats so that did not disappoint me.  Was happy for Bill Kendrick that Eli and the Giants beat the Packers.  Could we see brother coaching against brother in the big one?

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

There will be a memorial service for Ray Versiga from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home on Tuesday, 1/17, at 2:00PM.  This service will be preceded by a time of visitation with the family from 1:00PM until the service time.

The arrangements for Earl Gunter remain incomplete as an autopsy will be performed.  There is an uncertainty about how long that will take since it is a holiday weekend.

Pray for both of these families.  I suspect we will be asking for help with food during the services tomorrow.

SATURDAY, 1/14/12 (UPDATED)

It is now 2:40AM and I just returned from the hospital.  It saddens me to write that Earl Gunter has passed from this life.  (I am happy for Earl as I know he is now “absent from the body, present with the Lord!)  He became unresponsive in the ambulance and they never could get him back once he arrived at the hospital.

Pray for Hilda, Stacy, Earl’s siblings, and the entire family.  Merwyn will not learn of Earl’s passing until later this morning.  Thankfully, his son, Russell, is here from Virginia and will be the one to share the news to his dad.

The arrangements are incomplete.  I will post them here either later today but more likely on Sunday.

Folks, death comes without advance notice.  Are you ready?  Earl was and for that I am thankful!

SATURDAY, 1/14/12

It is 12:25AM and I just received a call from Hilda Gunter.  Earl is being transported by ambulance to a local hospital.  Do not know a lot of the details but do ask you to pray.  I will post an update once I return from the hospital.

Sue Blodgett’s heart cath revealed no blockages.  It did show an elevated pressure on one side of her heart but nothing that the doctors feel cannot be controlled.

As I was leaving the hospital yesterday morning, Janiece McLean called to let me know that Ray Versiga had passed away.  The arrangements are incomplete but a service will most likely take place on Tuesday, 1/17.  Pray for the Versiga family.  Pray for me as I prepare to preach that service.

Pray for the Upward ministry today.

As has been so in recent years, Dave & Donna Westhouse and the fine folks from Moline CRC have kicked off the year in the L.G. Camp, Jr. mission house in Guatemala.  They arrived on Thursday and had a good first day yesterday by completing nine houses up to the point of being ready for cement and they got a tenth house started.  Pray that the rest of their week will go well.

Again, I will update this entry (or add one) later.  Pray!

FRIDAY, 1/13/12

Clara Broadus told me last night that her mother, Miss Cora Martin, has been discharged from the hospital.  Pray that they can keep her from having any more of the mini strokes.

Learned yesterday that Earl Gunter has had some problems with his latest radiation treatments.  Pray for him.

It is a little before 5:00AM and I am about to go to the hospital to pray with Sue Blodgett before her heart cath.  Pray that all will go well for her.

I remind the Friendship family about the Down East Boys being our guests this Sunday, 1/15, during the 6:00PM service.  Come join us and bring a friend or two!

Yesterday, I had the joy of watching a follower of Jesus in action!  It goes back to the saying from Dr. Jack Bailey that I used in an earlier post this week.  What a blessing!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 1/12/12

Joey Switzer gave us an update on his grandmother, Miss Kathleen Henderson, last night.  She is at home but still needs our prayers.

Marisa said Carla was doing okay following her latest round of chemotherapy.  Pray for her and all those who are battling cancer.

Sue Blodgett will have a heart cath in the morning.  Pray for her.

We had a good day in our services yesterday/last night.  Our 7:00PM service was very well attended.  We give God the glory!

Alisha Vice leaves for Uganda on 2/1 to serve at least 90 days on the mission field.  If you choose to support her financially, you can do so through the church in order to get tax credit.  Simply make sure to mark your offering envelope properly.

Lisa and I presented our LSU fan, Rusty Suthoff, with a “gift” last night during the 8:00PM Bible study.  Should have seen the look on his face!  Roll Tide!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 1/11/12

Visited with Miss Kathleen Henderson yesterday morning and she was supposed to go home yesterday afternoon.  I cannot verify that she did go home but I pray that became a reality.  Will find out today.

Sue Blodgett will have a heart cath this Friday, 1/13.  Pray that will go well.

Herbert Benefield has a problem with his eye.  Pray as he consults with the specialists on what to do.  (Next time Miss Peggy tells him to so something he will probably listen!  LOL!)

We are on a regular schedule today with the 10:00AM service and then the 7:00/8:00PM Bible studies, classes, et cetera.  We usually have a strong attendance on Wednesdays but I pray that our 2012 attendance will be our best ever.

By the way, our first “potluck with the pastor” of 2012 will take place on 1/25.  The meat will be roast beef.  More details later.

So, I walk out this past Saturday to pick up pecans.  What do I see?  Soy standing beside his vehicle just staring!  Problem?  Yes, flat tire.  Do I need to tell you the rest of the story?  He “had” to go to the skating rink to see “if the skates had wheels or something like that” while I “got” to change his flat tire.  Folks,  I need your prayers!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus!
