WEDNESDAY, 5/21/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 29:1-31:13 John 11:55-12:19 Psalm 118:1-18 Proverbs 15:24-26

Not much keeps me awake at night but tonight (11:30PM on 5/20) I am restless.  Carlos Raxon in Guatemala went to the hospital today (Tuesday) in order to prepare for his surgery  tomorrow (5/21).  They called him in the afternoon to tell him that his surgery has been postponed.  Ok, you say, what is the big deal?  Postponed until March 8, 2015!  Surely there is a clerical error, misunderstanding, whatever.  Carlos needs surgery now because of the cancerous tumor in his stomach.  Pray!

Cristy Leytham is at home.  Terry Willis from Montgomery, AL is in the country and is helping Paul with the feeding process.  Laurie King will help from this point forward.  Cristy is weak but remains positive.  Paul is under a lot of stress.  Pray!

Tico & Lisa Vargas’ oldest daughter, Laurie, had a seizure.  She had been sick but this came as a surprise.  They have done some blood work but I do not know what the results are at this point.  Pray!

Karla Bosarge recently made a profession of faith in one of our Sunday morning services.  This past Saturday, 5/17, she was found deceased in her apartment.  A visitation with her family will take place today from 1:00PM until the 2:00PM service time.  Visitation and service will take place from Serenity Funeral Home.  Miss Vinnie & Anna Carol are leading the ministry of feeding the Bosarge family following the service.  Pray!

Peyton Fox’s problems apparently stem from allergies.  She should be discharged from the hospital today.

Miss Lucine Bryant will be having a surgical procedure done today.  Pray!

I do not have any updates on Lewis or Bea.

Miss Willie Roberts’ daughter, Maxine, did well through her surgery this past Monday.

Daphne, her children and I had an uneventful drive to Hartselle yesterday.  My niece, Jamie, had a hot meal waiting on us when we arrived.  I was able to go by the cemetery where my paternal grandparents are buried.  Decoration Sunday took place earlier in May and the flowers were beautiful!  Went to my parent’s house and spent an hour visiting with them and was joined by my sister, Melissa, and her husband, Tony, along with my nephew, Josh, his wife, Traci, and their twins, Jaden & Joslyn.  We all then went to watch my great nephew, Jace, play t-ball.  His team is good, the coaching (Joe David & Adam) is pathetic, and the umpires (two young ladies) were much better than Pee Wee!   The highlight of attending the game for me beside seeing Jace play  was time spent with Willard Garnett and Pastor Jack Bailey – I feel smarter!  (Bobby Stork – Dr. Jack wonders if you are ok?)

Twenty of us then made our way to Cracker Barrel where we enjoyed a meal and some great fellowship.  Really good family time!

This morning, we will leave early and go to the hospital for dad’s procedure.  It is certainly not major.  I need to be here not because of the seriousness of the surgery but simply because.  I hope to make a couple of visits after the surgery and will then drive home.

We are on a regular schedule today/tonight.  Bro. Jerry will preach in my absence this morning and evening.  Soy will lead the 7:30PM Bible study time.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/20/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 26:1-28:25 John 11:1-54 Psalm 117:1-2 Proverbs 15:22-23

Peggy & Judy’s Uncle Bob passed away around 5:15AM yesterday morning.  There will be a memorial service in Laurel, MS on Thursday at 5:00PM.  Pray for the family.

Miss Bea was in an excellent mood yesterday as I spent some extended time with her.  She is thinking she may go home toward the end of this week.  Now, that is “Bea speak” and not doctor talk!

Art Elliott went home yesterday afternoon.  He still has an aggravating cough but otherwise is doing good.  He was so ready to get out of the hospital and does not want to go back in as a patient any time soon, if ever!

Lewis Jackson was thinking that he “might” get discharged yesterday afternoon but I do not know if that happened.  His heart doctor was satisfied that he could be discharged and he was waiting on his regular doctor to give the green light.

Peyton Fox, daughter of Mitchel & Tiffany, was admitted to the hospital late yesterday afternoon with some breathing difficulties.

Cristy Leytham remained hospitalized as of yesterday morning.  She is able to drink some water and the doctor said she could eat some ice cream as well.  She maintains a great attitude of faith.

Our students will have “to go” meals prepared following Sunday School and the second service this Sunday morning.  I do not remember the menu but will put in in tomorrow’s letter if Jim Chinners will send it to me.

I am about leave heading to Hartselle, AL in order to take my dad for his surgical procedure tomorrow.  My sister carries the brunt of the load when it comes to helping our parents so this is really the least I can do.  After all, I am their fifth favorite child!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

Tuesday, 5/20 – 1 Samuel 26:1-28:25 John 11:1-54 Psalm 117:1-2 Proverbs 15:22-23

Thursday, 5/22 – 2 Samuel 1:1-2:11 John 12:20-50 Psalm 118:19-29 Proverbs 15:27-28

Friday, 5/23 – 2 Samuel 2:12-3:39 John 13:1-30 Psalm 119:1-16 Proverbs 15:29-30

Saturday, 5/24 – 2 Samuel 4:1-6:23 John 13:31-14:14 Psalm 119:17-32 Proverbs 15:31-32

Sunday, 5/25 – 2 Samuel 7:1-8:18 John 14:15-31 Psalm 119:33-48 Proverbs 15:33

Good day in our services yesterday.  The children’s choir did a nice job of sharing their musical with us in last night’s service.  I appreciate those who attended that service even though they had no children or grandchildren participating.  That is encouraging.

Peggy & Judy Benefield’s Uncle Bob is not doing well.  Herbert & Peggy and Bubba & Judy missed the services yesterday in order to be in Jackson with him.

Heard from Paul Leytham yesterday afternoon regarding Cristy.  She remains hospitalized but may be discharged today.  They began giving her Ensure through the feeding tube yesterday morning.  Paul says her spirit is excellent and that she looks better.  Her doctor son has told her to get up and walk regularly.

I will be checking on Bea, Art & Lewis first thing this morning and then hope to visit the convalescent home folks.

My dad will be having a port inserted on Wednesday in order to receive his chemotherapy treatments.  If everything goes as planned, I will be there to take him to that appointment.

Alisha Vice gets married this Saturday, 5/24, at 10:30AM in Hattiesburg, MS.  10:30AM?  Correct.  Hattiesburg?  I know!  At any rate, all members of the Friendship family are invited to attend.

We will be having a “foyer shower” for Rusty & Caryn on Sunday, June 8.  This will be a “gift card” shower and, if you so choose,  you will simply leave a gift card for them in the foyer of the auditorium as you enter/exit the services that day.  Are they married yet?  No.  Will they be married by 6/8?  No.  Are they going to get married?  Probably.

I have watched a little of the NBA playoffs.  I did not watch yesterday but was glad to hear the Heat got beat.  I figure the Heat will win it all but maybe not.  The Lakers were robbed this season!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SUNDAY, 5/18/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 22:1-23:29 John 10:1-21 Psalm 115:1-18 Proverbs 15:18-19

Visited with Art Elliott in the hospital yesterday afternoon.  It “appears” his problem was directly related to a medicine he has been taking.  He and Debra are in hopes to go home by tomorrow.  As always, Art was in excellent spirit!

Also visited with Lewis & Linda Jackson as he was placed in the hospital late Friday night.  He is retaining fluid around his heart.  A cath is possible for tomorrow but nothing has been written is stone at this point.  He too was in an excellent spirit.

Our first Celebration Saturday service went well.  The band did well and Bro. Chris challenged us to “dispel the distractions” that keep us from focusing on following Jesus.  We had 54 folks attend that service which is so very reminiscent of our first 8:00AM Sunday morning service years ago.  We meet again next Saturday night at 6:00PM.  Pray for this ministry, please.

Regular schedule today.  Children’s choir musical tonight at 6:00PM.

Was able to work on my Santa Claus (hoe, hoe, hoe) garden yesterday.  Spent about four hours using the hoe and another hour plus with the tiller.  What happened to that cool snap?  It was not present yesterday!  Thank God for the breeze!

That “shout” you heard at 1:00PM yesterday was me as we finished the t-ball season – hallelujah!  I have had about all of the umpire Pee Wee that I can stand for one season.  I may start a “help Pee Wee go to umpiring school” in anticipation of next season.  Daphne tells me that Titus is going to play soccer this Fall and I simply said “Roll Tide” and for her to let me know how the “games” go!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 5/17/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 20:1-21:15 John 9:1-41 Psalm 113:1-114:8 Proverbs 15:15-17

Art Elliott is back in the hospital.  Not sure of the details.  Pray for Art & Debra.

Cristy Leytham’s test yesterday morning revealed that her esophagus is completely closed.  The doctors inserted a feeding tube yesterday afternoon.  She will be hospitalized until tomorrow.

Miss Bea remains in a rehab facility.

Tonight marks the first service of our Celebration ministry.  Pray for Bro. Chris and the praise band as they lead this service.  Encourage folks who do not go to church to attend this non-traditional service.

We are on a regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  The children’s choir will present their Spring musical during the 6:00PM service.

Yesterday provided me the opportunity to spend a really long time bonding with my weed eater.  Charles & Soy picked up about one million more pecan limbs and then Soy and I mowed.  The team effort allowed us to get the entire fifteen acres mowed so it was a good day.  The garden is calling my name today!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 5/16/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 18:5-19:24 John 8:31-59 Psalm 112:1-10 Proverbs 15:12-14

Cristy Leytham will have an exam at 7:30AM (8:30AM our time) to help determine exactly what is going on with her esophagus.  Pray that the doctor will get a clear view and that Miss Cristy will have wisdom in making any decision that needs to be made.

Our first Celebration service is set to take place tomorrow night, 5/17, beginning at 6:00PM.  Bro. Chris will be preaching and the praise band will lead the musical worship.  Pray for this new ministry.

We will recognize our 2014 high school graduates this Sunday, 5/18, as a part of our morning worship service.  All graduates should be on time for that service.

Our children’s choir will present their Spring musical this Sunday evening, 5/18, beginning at 6:00PM.

The Lord has blessed us with a couple of cool nights/days which has allowed us to sleep with the windows open probably for the last time until October.  God is good!  Today looks to be a beautiful day which means weed eating, mowing, and working in the garden for me.  The girls picked up pecan limbs yesterday afternoon and Soy got a head start on the mowing.  Those two things are a big help!

Went to Titus’ t-ball game last night.  The umpire in that league, Pee Wee, is consistent.  He missed calls at the beginning of the year and, now that the season is one game from being over, he is still missing calls!  Example – last night he called “ball on the tee” at least three times when the ball was actually still in the coach’s hand!  Talk about confusing the players!

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

CALL TO PRAYER FOR CRISTY LEYTHAM

Word came to me this afternoon that Miss Cristy Leytham is having a really bad day.  She is scheduled for an exam of her throat/esophagus early tomorrow morning.  I ask you to join me in praying for her and Bro. Paul.  Thank you!

THURSDAY, 5/15/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 17:1-18:4 John 8:21-30 Psalm 111:1-10 Proverbs 15:11

The visitation with the Eugene Whitehurst family takes place today from 1:00PM until the 2:00PM service time.  Everything will take place from Serenity Funeral Home in Theodore.  Pray for the Whitehurst family.

Our first Celebration service takes place this Saturday night, 5/17, beginning at 6:00PM.  Pray for this new ministry.

We will recognize the 2014 high school graduates this Sunday morning, 5/18, during our 10:30AM service.

Several folks have asked about helping with the shoes for the children at the feeding center.  We are working on a package deal in order to buy the “same” shoe for each child rather than have “different” shoes for everyone.  We are trying to get shoes they can wear to school with their uniforms.  We will keep you updated as we go through this process.

An anonymous family has stepped forward and provided the funds for the iPad to be used in GRACE Ministries.  I appreciate this family’s obedience.  Bro. Chris will be making that purchase real soon.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/14/14

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 15:1-16:23 John 8:1-20 Psalm 110:1-7 Proverbs 15:8-10

A word of thanks to each member of the Friendship family who supported Rusty & his family by attending either the visitation or service last night.

A huge “thank you” goes to the members of 20 – 29 year old Sunday School class for providing the meal for the Suthoff family.  I was “amazed” at the spread those girls put on the table!  They had help from three or four “more seasoned” ladies but they did 95% of the meal plus they provided a meal for the Erwins, Bradleys, and Reynolds.  Some of them were at the church from 3:00PM until 9:00PM hosting the family.  Great job, ladies!  (I think they have  watched folks like Miss Vinnie and learned well!)

Will & Amy Reynolds had a pipe to burst yesterday which resulted in about two inches of water throughout their house.  Thanks to those who went to help them.  They will be displaced until the repairs can be completed.

Found out from Ed Williams yesterday that Pastor Jack House was possibly going home from the hospital yesterday.  They have to keep his blood pressure elevated due to a problem in his heart.

We are on a regular schedule this morning and tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
