SUNDAY, 5/24/15

Today’s Bible reading – 2 Samuel 4:1-6:23 John 13:31-14:14 Psalm 119:17-32 Proverbs 15:31-32

Mary and Annabel Holmes were discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon – pretty amazing to me being that Annabel was born Friday at 1:05PM.  As far as I know, mother and daughter are doing fine.

Regular schedule this morning and evening.  Water day for our children with activities and food following the 10:30AM service.  Late night bowling for our middle/high school students with attendance in the evening service a must.

The church office will be closed tomorrow in observance of Memorial Day.  Opens at 8:00AM on Tuesday.

Spent yesterday morning in the garden making it a Santa Claus garden and using the tiller.  I have traced the problem with my corn back to the one who cared for it while I was in Guatemala the other week – Soy!  Have really been blessed with an abundance of snap beans.  John Milton “loaned” us some cucumbers yesterday as Lisa is putting up pickles.  Peas should be ready for the first picking by the end of this week.  Okra beginning to bear some.  God is good!

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!

SATURDAY, 5/23/15

Today’s Bible reading – 2 Samuel 2:12-3:39 John 13:1-30 Psalm 119:1-16 Proverbs 15:29-30

Annabel Rain Holmes arrived into this world yesterday afternoon at 1:05PM weighing 6 pounds and 12 ounces.  Proud parents are Gauge & Mary Holmes.  Mary & Annabel are doing fine and are scheduled to be discharged from the hospital this afternoon.  Congratulations to Gauge & Mary along with grandparents, Danny & Liz Cole and Carolyn Holmes.

“Water day” for the children tomorrow morning following the second service.  Parents, please bring the proper clothes for your child to get wet.  Questions?  Contact Bro. Benny.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  Late night bowling for our students with attendance in the evening service a must in order to take part in the bowling outing.

FYI, we will commission Zach Huhn next Sunday morning, 5/31, as a part of our 10:30AM service.  Zach will be spending the Summer in San Francisco working with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.  (Probably will meet his future wife and never come back home – just saying!)

A long day yesterday in the garden and then mowing.  Took a break to attend Bryant’s graduation and then got back on the mower until dark thirty.  About to hit the garden again this morning with the tiller and hoe.  I do thank God for the coolness of yesterday morning as it was very nice.  Not as cool this morning but not too bad either.  God is good!

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 5/22/15

Today’s Bible reading – 2 Samuel 1:1-2:11 John 12:20-50 Psalm 118:19-29 Proverbs 15:27-28

Alma Bryant High School graduation today at 3:00PM in the Mitchell Center on the campus of USA.  Congratulations to the Class of 2015.

As far as I know, there are no significant changes in any of the folks for whom we have been praying.  I did receive an e-mail from Herbert Benefield saying the doctors have made a change in his medications in hopes this will help him improve quickly.  (They cannot help him mentally but hopefully his physical condition will improve!)  Pastor Wes & Rebekah continue to play the waiting game.

Mission of Hope service tonight at the mission beginning at 7:00PM.  Bus leaves the church at 6:15PM.  Jeff Holifield will be brining the message.  Everyone is invited to take part in this service.

Dale & Karla Bosarge will be doing ministry in Huntsville, AL tonight.  Driving up today and back tomorrow.

“Water day” for the children this Sunday morning, 5/24.  Children need to bring proper clothes.  Questions?  Contact Bro. Benny McGath.

Nanette Fontenot has sent me no less than seventeen e-mails reminding me that the UM softball team plays in the national tourney in Iowa beginning tonight.  Her daughter, Korie, is the “diamond girl” (glorified bat girl) which is one of the most important positions on the team per Nanette.  Nanette wants UM to be the “visitors” should they will be guaranteed to bat all seven innings regardless which means Korie gets to drag the bats the full compliment of times.  She wants that to be a prayer request but I refuse!

Holiday weekend.  We have folks who have/will be traveling out of town.  Good for them.  My hope is that those of us remaining in town will be faithful to attend the services at Friendship.  Late night bowling for our middle school & high school students Sunday with church attendance a requirement.  Questions?  Contact Bro. Chris Taylor.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 5/21/15

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 29:1-31:13 John 11:55-12:19 Psalm 118:1-18 Proverbs 15:24-26

Our “potluck with the pastor” was one of our best ever!  Really good attendance!  Blo Joe Guidry, Greg Boutwell, Terry Lucky & Junior Bosarge did an excellent job of cooking the fish & hush puppies.  Cecil Guidry, Carla Kyser, Kayla Hatcher & Daphne Hutto did an excellent job of getting setting things up and serving.  You did an excellent job of bringing the sides.  The food was great.  The fellowship was even greater!

John Milton & Blo Joe then fried fish for the 7:30PM Bible study group too.  It was a huge success!  The folks from the morning fellowship graciously allowed us to use the sides that were left so it made it real easy on Lisa – thank you!

Bro. Sonny Bates presented the prayer requests in our morning service yesterday as I knew that I would be running late due to senior chapel at Faith Academy.  Bro. Sonny did an excellent job and I do appreciate it!

Wes & Rebekah Bates are waiting on the arrival of their son.  He was due to arrive this past Monday but has decided to delay his appearance into this world.  Pray for Rebekah as she is in these last days of her pregnancy.

Derrick Wilkerson’s father had open heart surgery yesterday morning.  I have not gotten a report but do ask that you pray for him.

Our senior adults are going on a boat ride today.  They are scheduled to leave at 9:30AM.  Pray for their safety.

“Water day” for our children this Sunday, 5/24.  Those who ride the bus will be aware of this because of the Saturday visitation of our bus workers.  The parents of the children who do not ride the buses are asked to take note and bring their children properly prepared to take part in these activities.  Questions?  Contact Bro. Benny McGath.

Regular schedule this Sunday morning and evening.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/20/15

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 26:1-28:25 John 11:1-54 Psalm 117:1-2 Proverbs 15:22-23

Received word from John & Laurie King last night that Carlos Raxon got good news from all of the test results that have come back thus far.  However, he did suffer four seizures yesterday so they have included another medicine to his daily dosage.  Pray for Carlos.

The celebration of live service for Miss Lucine Bryant went well.  You are preaching your funeral each day you live.  Miss Bryant preached her’s very well.  Pray for the family.

Wayne Hoggard from Hurley, MS is scheduled to go on our June GRACE trip.  While playing kick ball with the youth at church, he ruptured his Achilles tendon and had surgery this past Monday.  He is now in a cast and using crutches to get around.  (When will these “old” people learn they cannot play sports with the young people?)  Pray for Wayne.  His trip is in jeopardy!

“Potluck with the pastor” today immediately following the morning service.  Today’s menu is fried fish, hush puppies and the trimmings.  We are furnishing the fish, hush puppies, bread and drinks.  You are asked to bring the sides (slaw, potato salad or baked beans) plus a dessert.  If you have not already been assigned a side by Cecil Guidry, just bring one and come join us.  We have a group of men frying the fish and it will be great!

The 7:30PM Bible study will also be having a fish fry tonight.  Hubba bubba will be the fryer of the fish for that group.  Lisa will provide the sides.

My Tuesday got changed at basically the last minute as I drove to Dothan, AL and back yesterday afternoon/last night.  Long story short – Daphne had to attend a conference related to her new job as a NP.  It was not possible for Brad to take her and I did not want her going alone so I decided to go with her.  Helicopter dad?  You decide.

Soy handled the prayer meeting last night and he tells me that 23 folks were present.  Amen!  Rusty handled the TNBA and I heard there was a good number for that as well.  I do not mind missing TNBA but I do not like missing the prayer meeting.  Thanks Soy & Rusty!

The new playground equipment has begun to arrive.  Construction, under the capable leadership of Chris Cavin, should begin real soon.  (I said Chris – not Courtney!)  It is going to be good!

I hope to see many of you in our services today/tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/19/15

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 24:1-25:44 John 10:22-42 Psalm 116:1-19 Proverbs 15:20-21

The service for Miss Lucine Bryant takes place this morning beginning at 10:00AM from the auditorium of First Baptist Church.  There will be a visitation beginning at 9:00AM.  The ladies from First Baptist are providing the meal for the family but anyone wishing to help by taking food is welcome to do so.

Clara Broadus’ sister remains in ICU.  She has made improvement but still has a ways to go.

Dave told me that Becky had a busy week last week and it has caused her to be physically tired.  They are in hopes of a more normal routine this week.  Dave’s mother is still waiting word on a scheduled date for her surgery.

Jimmy Moates did have a chemotherapy treatment yesterday.  Pray that he tolerates it well.

Eula Mae’s sister continues to do well as she receives her treatments.

Vera Bosarge’s sister is low and is not expected to live on this earth for an extended period of time.  She is at home under hospice care.

Carlos Raxon is the gentleman who served as the contractor in building the feeding center for GRACE Ministries in Guatemala.  He is battling cancer and is presently not doing well.  He was moved from the national hospital to a private hospital on Sunday night.  They are now discussing sending him home under 24/7 care.  Pray for Carlos and his family.

Prayer meeting tonight from 5:00 – 7:00PM.  Come and go or come and stay – just pray!  Use the West side door to enter and exit, please.

TNBA at 7:00PM tonight.

Regular schedule tomorrow morning and evening.  Potluck with the pastor following the morning service.  Cecil Guidry is in charge of assigning the sides as we are having a fish fry.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

We were blessed with a really good day in all three of our services yesterday.  Bro. Jim Chinners and Bro. Chris Taylor both did a nice job of sharing the Word during the morning services.  The children’s choir did an equally nice job in the evening service.  The attendance was good in all three of our services.  We give God the glory!

The visitation with the Lucine Bryant family takes place tonight from 5:00 – 8:00PM at First Baptist Church of Grand Bay.  Keep praying for the Bryant family.

I will include it in my letter but I do want the parents of our children to know that there will be water slides, et cetera following the second service this Sunday, 5/24.  Those riding the buses will be aware of this but Bro. Benny wants to make sure those who do not ride the buses are also aware so they can come prepared.

SUNDAY, 5/17/15

Today’s Bible reading – 1 Samuel 20:1-21:15 John 9:1-41 Psalm 113:1-114:8 Proverbs 15:15-17

We are on a regular schedule today – morning and evening.  The high school class of 2015 will be recognized in our 10:30AM service with Bro. Chris Taylor bringing the message.  Those seniors were treated to an evening of food and fellowship last night hosted by Bro. Chris and his wife, Nicole.

Tonight’s service will feature the ministry of our children’s choir under the direction of Tena Hovel.  That service begins at 6:00PM and is worthy of our support.

As I was driving home from the church yesterday afternoon, it hit me that Henni is now married.  Really married.  Officially married.  Wow!  Who would have ever thought it?  I believe she found a winner!  The wedding ceremony was nice and nicely done by Pastor Keith.

Lisa and I were blessed by the number of folks who stayed afterwards to help with the clean up from the wedding.  We were home by 5:00PM with everything completely finished.  We were especially blessed by Deidra, Daphne and Jennifer Davis and their help throughout the entire happening i.e. planning, preparing, setting up, actual ceremony, et cetera.  God is good!

The Bryant family will meet with the funeral director today to make the arrangements for Miss Lucine’s service.  She has already preached her own funeral by the life she lived on earth and did it very well!  Arrangements will be posted here as soon as they are completed.

I pray that you will have a great Sunday with Jesus.  Go to church!
