UPDATE

Daphne Patterson called this morning to tell us that her aunt, Sandy Atchison, passed away around 6:00AM today.  Sandy has been in and out of the hospitals/intensive care units a lot over the past couple of years and has seemingly been near death several other times.  She was only 53 years old.  Pray for the Atchison family during this time of sorrow.

WEDNESDAY, 3/12/08

I had the opportunity yesterday to visit with Idice Reeves and James Swann in the hospital.  Miss Idice seemingly recognizes me but is unable to communicate verbally.  Mr. Swann is Martha Patrick’s brother.  My  visit with him was very short as they were taking him for a test but he did know who I was.  Marilyn Thomas’ mother was moved to a rehab center yesterday and Phyllis Bush’s mother remains hospitalized.  Daphne Patterson’s aunt, Sandy Atchison, was admitted to a local hospital yesterday and is in an intensive care unit.  Miss Exie Woods continues her rehab and Carla Kyser is still taking her treatments.  Pray for these folks!

By the way, I wanted to say “thank you” to Jim Sciple for being at the hospital with Carl & Connie during her surgery on Monday.  Friendship is blessed with some wonderful people who really know how to minister to the body of Christ!  Jim is a great guy even if he does bleed orange and blue!

One of the guys presently in Guatemala has made one blog entry about their trip.  You can read it at www.douginguatemala.blogspot.com.  I think he is a student at UAB.

You probably noticed the picture of the flowers posted below this entry.  I am computer illiterate so I have to thank my wife, Lisa, and my computer guru, Chris Taylor, for getting this picture on the site for all to see.  What’s the story?  Well, as “they say” I just happened to stop by the oil change place late yesterday afternoon and there was Joey Switzer sitting behind the counter grinning from ear to ear as he looked at this vase of flowers with a balloon attached.  It seems they had just been delievered.  The balloon had the words “miss you” written on it.  I looked at the card and it simply said “Troy” which could be a town in Alabama, the university, or a person – I am clueless!  At any rate, Joey seemed happy but rumor has it that Mitchel and Dewayne are “hurt!”  Those silly boys!

We are on a regular schedule today with our first service this morning at 10:00AM.  I hope each member of the Friendship family will join us for one of the services/Bible studies today and/or tonight.

I saw Carl Bradley yesterday afternoon and forgot to wish him a happy birthday – sorry Carl!  Josh Woods and Aaron Burnett are both celebrating their birthday today so happy birthday guys!

Bret, I will call you after lunch today.  Eric, just keep ignoring my e-mail messages!  Ditto for Queen!  T. Garrett – you alive?  Pastor Travis – what’s up?

I hope you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 3/11/08

Not a lot to report this morning.  Yesterday was a busy day and it was capped by our FAITH process.  I really appreciate the folks who participate in FAITH and Bro. Jerry sent me a message saying how well it went last night.  I was able to make one good visit but I always tend to stay so long that I miss the report time.

There was no significant change in Idice Reeves yesterday.  I fully believe that she knew me but she is not able to communicate verbally.  Connie Bradley is recovering at home from her surgery.  Martha Patrick’s brother, Jerry Whitmore’s aunt, Marilyn Thomas’ mother, and Phyllis Bush’s mother are all hospitalized so please remember these folks in your prayers.

I stopped by to get my license renewed yesterday but the wait time was over two hours so I declined.  They were suggesting folks go to Bay Minnette, Atmore, or Chatom (do they have cars in Chatom?) but I decided to go early this morning and beat the rush (hopefully).  Lisa is graciously making the school run for me this morning in order for me to get me license.  I married way out of my league!  (No comments, please!)

I hope you have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

CONNIE BRADLEY’S SURGERY

When I posted this morning, I forgot that today was the day for Connie Bradley’s surgery.  I was with Connie before surgery and sat with her husband, Carl, and her mother, Carolyn, during the procedure.  Everything went well and she should come home this afternoon.  (I keep waiting for the day of the drive through surgery!)

MONDAY, 3/10/08

The Friendship family is amazing! (I am biased in my opinion but that’s okay!)  You did very well in not letting the time change Sunday be a negative but instead attended our services very well!  The Lord blessed in all three of our services yesterday and it was a joy to baptize two in the 10:30AM service and then four more in the 6:00PM service.  It was also a joy to have Scott Older join the Friendship family by transfer of letter last night.  So, as always, we give God the glory as He, and He alone, gives the increase!

Our GRACE meal was a success too!  Thanks to those who participated and to the members of the student ministry committee and students who did the cooking, serving, cleaning, et cetera.

Idice Reeves remains hospitalized and I will go visit with her this morning.  As far as I know, we do not have anyone else in the hospital at this point.  Rhea Wilkinson had some oral surgery on her teeth last week and was still having some difficulties because of that yesterday.  Pray for these folks!

A couple of things that I missed last week – Scott Eckert’s mother spent some time in the hospital and Rhett Butler’s grandmother passed away.  Her service was held last Wednesday.  I will get an update on Scott’s mother.

The college team arrive safely in Guatemala.  Word has it that Joey, Mitchel, and Dewayne are really struggling with Troy being gone!  However, there is no need to pray for “Troy’s boys” (per Sammy Bowden).

Tonya L. Henderson surprised me last night by showing up for our church service.  She was actually just needing gas money to get home but it was good to see her nonetheless!

The Bama basketball team “crushed” Vandy this past Saturday which probably means they are about to return to the days of Wimp and mow through the SEC tourney!

T. Garrett, your grandmother told me all about the trip to Hawaii with you!

Hope you have a great Monday with Jesus!

SATURDAY, 3/8/08

I am posting this morning to update on some prayer needs and to remind you to “spring forward” tonight.

First, I just received a call from Lisa’s father, Charles Clark, telling me of a 13 year old boy who was at the skating rink in GB last night.  He went home and told his parents that he did not feel well.  They called an ambulance who in turn called South Flight and the young man passed away while being taken to the hospital.  The family lives in Grand Bay.  They certainly need our prayer support during this time of shock and sorrow.

Idice Reeves was admitted to the hospital this past Thursday.  I am told that is was perhaps a stroke.  I visited with her yesterday and we had a good conversation although she struggled to get the words out and in sentence form.  What a sweet, sweet lady!  I have plans to visit her again today.

Lorraine Bradley took a fall and broke a hip.  I do know that she had surgery and that went well according to the reports I am receiving.  Lorraine lives in TN with David & Donna.

Jack Leasure did well through his procedure and came home yesterday afternoon.

Eighteen folks from USA, UAB, and Troy University are bound for Guatemala this morning.  Troy Brock is with this team as he will serve as a driver.  Pray for this team as they minister this next week through house building, VBS, et cetera.

SPRING FORWARD!  Please don’t forget to move your clocks forward one hour tonight before going to bed!

Our GRACE meal will be served tomorrow too and I hope you will join us for this food and fellowship.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 3/7/08

I am cheating this morning as the clock just rolled past the midnight hour and I decided to go ahead and enter a post for today.  The funeral service for Vaughn Womack went well and was well attended.  I appreciate Bro. Robbie Howard sharing from the Word and Bro. Kerry Kelley, Janice Moreland, and Jeanette Bates for ministering through music.  Thanks to each person who helped minister in any way to the Womack family during this time.

I think we picked up another blog reader as Tonya Lee Henderson from Tennessee was at the funeral and said she is going to join the ranks.  That means that of the ten folks in TN who can read almost half of them now read the blog – amazing!  It was good to see Tonya as I haven’t seen her in years!

Jack Leasure is having a surgical procedure done this morning.  Honestly, I am not certain what the procedure relates to but do know we need to pray for him.  Jack Leasure is one of the finest men I have ever known!

Spring forward!  That is the cry for the next couple of days as we try to combat the tendency to “forget” thus causing folks to miss Sunday morning church services the next day.  So, move your clocks forward one hour this Saturday night, 3/8, before going to bed.

Our students will sponsor a GRACE meal this Sunday, 3/9.  I hope you will support our student ministry through this meal.

Jon Cowart and his family had planned on having another vehicle by this point in time.  However, they have not found what they are looking for.  If someone reading this blog knows of a used car dealer with access to a Dodge Caravan mini van then please let me know.  It could very well be someone with access to a car auction.  Thanks!

There is a group of students and leaders from USA, UAB, and Troy University that will be traveling to Guatemala tomorrow and using the Camp house as their base for ministry.  Our own Troy Brock will join them to serve as a driver.  Pray for this team as they build houses, conduct VBS at two churches, and do other ministry related activities.

Wow, it is birthday weekend!  Happy birthday today, 3/7, to Kira Ellens and Cheryl Schuiteman (Spiderman works fine).  Tomorrow’s (3/8) birthday wishes go to Jenna Genzink Kreuze, Jean Miersma, and Dale Bosarge.  Sunday’s (3/9) birthday folks are Eddie Hall, Leah Compagner, & Britney Compagner.  Happy birthday to all of these folks!

I had better call it a day as I have to renew my driver’s license today and I want to look my best for my picture!

I hope you have a great Friday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 3/6/08

The Lord blessed and we had a good day yesterday.  Thanks to each person who attended our Bible studies/classes/worship services.

Thanks to each person who attended the visitation for the Womack family last night.  Lisa and I went early so we didn’t see the crowd but I am sure there was a significant number pass through that place.

A “thank you” also goes to those who are helping today with the food preparation for the Womack family.  I appreciate the way the Friendship family ministers during times like these.  Of course, today they will be joined in ministry by the members of the Philadelphia Baptist Church where Vaughn & Pat’s son, John, serves as the Pastor.

“Spring forward” is the phrase for this week as time changes this Sunday, 3/9.  Please don’t forget to move your clocks forward one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.

Our students will host a GRACE meal this Sunday, 3/9.  Some of you have purchased tickets in advance but there should be plenty of food for those wishing to buy at the door.  Thank you for supporting our student ministry!

There are no real changes in the folks who have been hospitalized or those battling cancer.  Vera did share last night that her brother had plans to attend his church service last night.  Jeff Long shared that his sister-in-law, Barbara, is now in a battle with breast cancer and needs our prayer support as she isn’t doing too well.

Pray for me as I bring the message at Vaughn’s service this morning.  Pray that Jesus will be exalted, the Father will be glorified, and the family will be comforted.

I hope you have a great Thursday with Jesus!

WEDNESDAY, 3/5/08

I want to remind the members of the Friendship family that we are going to have our regular Bible studies/services today beginning at 10:00AM this morning.  All other Bible studies/classes and the 7:00PM service will meet as normal too.

I am encouraging those folks who plan on attending the 7:00PM service to visit with the Womack family at Serenity Funeral Home before our service.  I would expect the crowd to be significant at Serenity tonight with the Womack family being so well known in Grand Bay.  So, I don’t figure the visitation will end at 8:00PM simply because of the number of folks present to pay their respects.

Carla Kyser went for another treatment yesterday and will have one more next week.  She will then have a scan six weeks after that.  Please keep praying for Carla.

I gave a false report about Vera Bosarge being in Huntsville to help her brother and his wife.  She was not able to make that trip due to some things happening here.  So, please continue to pray for Danny Vesper and his wife, Sheila.

I received an e-mail from Rhonda Coleman with an update from Pastor Rodney’s situation.  He remains hospitalized and has had some anxious moments.  They think they have a handle on his condition now but he surely needs our continued prayers.

My life long friend and fellow pastor, Tim Keenum, and his family are walking through a tough spot right now as his father, Jimmy, continues to battle against cancer.  He is in a Birmingham hospital and has been pretty low in recent days.  Please pray for Mr. Jimmy Keenum and his family during this time.

Our high school students going to Guatemala this summer will be sponsoring another GRACE meal this Sunday, 3/9.  I hope you will make plans to join us for this meal as it helps these students be a part of the summer mission efforts.

Please keep reminding yourself to “spring forward” this Saturday night as time changes!  Move your clock ahead one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.

I need to meet tonight with all persons planning on being a part of our November ’08 GRACE trip.    This meeting will take place immediately following the 7:00PM service.

I heard through the grapevine yesterday that someone is providing a vehicle for Bro. Jerry since his truck was totaled in the accident a few weeks ago.  I thank God for His provision for Bro. Jerry and thank the person providing this vehicle for being so gracious.

I hope you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.
