MONDAY, 3/17/08

The Friendship family enjoyed another Sunday of God’s blessings in our three services.  What a joy to see Ruby Gulley make a public profession of faith in our 10:30AM service!  It was also a blessing to see Darren & Kayla Schoen come to join the Friendship family – Darren by baptism and Kayla by letter.  The evening service saw Ruby Gulley and Gavin Chandler follow the Lord in believer’s baptism.  We give God the glory for the increase!

Word came yesterday that Mrs. Maggard, mother of Phylis Bush, passed away.  She suffered a stroke about a month ago and has not done well physically since then.   The arrangements are incomplete at this time but I do know the burial will take place in the Meridian, MS area.  Pray for Phylis and her family.

One of Edna Holifield’s aunts passed away this weekend too.  I believe her name was Vera Miller.  Edna is traveling to the Laurel area today to attend that service.  Pray for the Miller family.

Presently, we do not have anyone from the Friendship family in the hospital – thank the Lord!  However, we do have folks in need of our prayers.  Please keep praying for Carla Kyser as she takes her treatments.  Sara Nell Moulds has some pre-cancerous places on her head and is having to apply a topical chemotherapy treatment.  Lillian Brinkman took a fall last Thursday and got a nice “shiner” on her left eye as a result – ouch!

Several years ago when Eddie Hall’s father was bedridden, a lady by the name of Annie would stay with him during the day while Mrs. Hall was at work.  Annie is now a resident at the local convalescent home and is not doing well physically so please pray for her too.

It is my understanding that Alma Bryant High School has a new football coach in the person of Ronnie Cottrell.  I have never met Coach Cottrell but wish the team and him well in the coming seasons.

Don’t forget to reflect on the sacrifice of Jesus this week as we approach the Easter weekend.  What a Savior!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

FRIDAY, 3/14/08

Lisa and I drove to the funeral home in Chatom last night for the Atchinson visitation.  Pray for that family as they go through the service today.

Bro. Jerry made the hospital rounds yesterday and there has been no significant change in anyone’s condition.  Continue to pray for those battling various illnesses.  Carla Kyser is still taking her treatments.

The members of our missions committee are asked to meet with me this Sunday afternoon at 4:15PM in my office.

All folks going on the June ’08 GRACE trip are asked to meet with me immediately following the evening worship service this Sunday.  We will meet in the student ministry building.

Our evening service this Sunday will feature the ordinance of baptism and the ordinance of the Lord’s Supper.  I hope you will be present for this special service.

Pastor Benny Still is celebrating his 10th anniversary as the Pastor of 1st Baptist Grand Bay.  Congratulations to Pastor Benny.  I would assume that he is now one of the longest tenured pastors in the history of First Baptist.  The church will be hosting a celebration this Sunday morning, 3/16.

I hope that the members of the Friendship family will be present for Sunday School, Discipleship Training, and the worship services this Sunday.  I look forward to joining you for these times of Bible study and worship.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

P.S. – Rumor has it that “Troy’s boys” i.e. Joey, Mitchel, & Dewayne are planning a surprise welcome home party for Troy tomorrow night.  Is that sweet or what!

THURSDAY, 3/13/08

We had a blessed day in our services yesterday morning and last night.  It was good to have Pastor Jeff Switzer join us for the 7:00PM service.  Jeff is a brother to Joey and pastors a Methodist church in the Philadelphia, MS area.

Idice Reeves was moved to a local convalescent home facility yesterday.  James Swann remains hospitalized as does Phyllis Bush’s mother and Marily Thomas’ mother.

The arrangements for Sandy Atchison, Daphne Patterson’s aunt, are:  visitation tonight from 6:00 – 9:00PM at the Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom, AL with the service taking place tomorrow morning at 11:00AM from the funeral home’s chapel.

Doug posted his second entry about the Guatemala trip yesterday.  You can find it at www.douginguatemala.blogspot.com.  “Troy’s boys” were excited last night that only 96 hours, 23 minutes, and 10 seconds remained before Troy comes home!

I was surfing the net last night after our college/young professionals Bible study and came across some interesting stories like the elderly couple in Arizona who were found to be keeping almost 800 small dogs in their triple wide trailer and other buildings on their property.

Like the guy in California who is accused of keeping his girlfriend’s deceased body on dry ice for the past year or so.  He lives in an upscale hotel and the authorities found her body in a rubbermaid container.

Like the lady in Kansas who was found stuck to her boyfriend’s toilet seat.  She had been sitting there for two years!  She was literally taken to the hospital with the toilet seat stuck to her body.  Folks, I am not making these stories up as they all were reported on Fox News.  Wow!

Today is Daryn Kuiper’s 26th birthday!  Daryn is a good friend and a strong supporter of GRACE Ministries.  He is about to take the plunge as he and Kira Ellens will unite in marriage on 3/29.  Happy birthday Daryn!

I hope that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

UPDATE

Daphne Patterson called this morning to tell us that her aunt, Sandy Atchison, passed away around 6:00AM today.  Sandy has been in and out of the hospitals/intensive care units a lot over the past couple of years and has seemingly been near death several other times.  She was only 53 years old.  Pray for the Atchison family during this time of sorrow.

WEDNESDAY, 3/12/08

I had the opportunity yesterday to visit with Idice Reeves and James Swann in the hospital.  Miss Idice seemingly recognizes me but is unable to communicate verbally.  Mr. Swann is Martha Patrick’s brother.  My  visit with him was very short as they were taking him for a test but he did know who I was.  Marilyn Thomas’ mother was moved to a rehab center yesterday and Phyllis Bush’s mother remains hospitalized.  Daphne Patterson’s aunt, Sandy Atchison, was admitted to a local hospital yesterday and is in an intensive care unit.  Miss Exie Woods continues her rehab and Carla Kyser is still taking her treatments.  Pray for these folks!

By the way, I wanted to say “thank you” to Jim Sciple for being at the hospital with Carl & Connie during her surgery on Monday.  Friendship is blessed with some wonderful people who really know how to minister to the body of Christ!  Jim is a great guy even if he does bleed orange and blue!

One of the guys presently in Guatemala has made one blog entry about their trip.  You can read it at www.douginguatemala.blogspot.com.  I think he is a student at UAB.

You probably noticed the picture of the flowers posted below this entry.  I am computer illiterate so I have to thank my wife, Lisa, and my computer guru, Chris Taylor, for getting this picture on the site for all to see.  What’s the story?  Well, as “they say” I just happened to stop by the oil change place late yesterday afternoon and there was Joey Switzer sitting behind the counter grinning from ear to ear as he looked at this vase of flowers with a balloon attached.  It seems they had just been delievered.  The balloon had the words “miss you” written on it.  I looked at the card and it simply said “Troy” which could be a town in Alabama, the university, or a person – I am clueless!  At any rate, Joey seemed happy but rumor has it that Mitchel and Dewayne are “hurt!”  Those silly boys!

We are on a regular schedule today with our first service this morning at 10:00AM.  I hope each member of the Friendship family will join us for one of the services/Bible studies today and/or tonight.

I saw Carl Bradley yesterday afternoon and forgot to wish him a happy birthday – sorry Carl!  Josh Woods and Aaron Burnett are both celebrating their birthday today so happy birthday guys!

Bret, I will call you after lunch today.  Eric, just keep ignoring my e-mail messages!  Ditto for Queen!  T. Garrett – you alive?  Pastor Travis – what’s up?

I hope you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 3/11/08

Not a lot to report this morning.  Yesterday was a busy day and it was capped by our FAITH process.  I really appreciate the folks who participate in FAITH and Bro. Jerry sent me a message saying how well it went last night.  I was able to make one good visit but I always tend to stay so long that I miss the report time.

There was no significant change in Idice Reeves yesterday.  I fully believe that she knew me but she is not able to communicate verbally.  Connie Bradley is recovering at home from her surgery.  Martha Patrick’s brother, Jerry Whitmore’s aunt, Marilyn Thomas’ mother, and Phyllis Bush’s mother are all hospitalized so please remember these folks in your prayers.

I stopped by to get my license renewed yesterday but the wait time was over two hours so I declined.  They were suggesting folks go to Bay Minnette, Atmore, or Chatom (do they have cars in Chatom?) but I decided to go early this morning and beat the rush (hopefully).  Lisa is graciously making the school run for me this morning in order for me to get me license.  I married way out of my league!  (No comments, please!)

I hope you have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

CONNIE BRADLEY’S SURGERY

When I posted this morning, I forgot that today was the day for Connie Bradley’s surgery.  I was with Connie before surgery and sat with her husband, Carl, and her mother, Carolyn, during the procedure.  Everything went well and she should come home this afternoon.  (I keep waiting for the day of the drive through surgery!)

MONDAY, 3/10/08

The Friendship family is amazing! (I am biased in my opinion but that’s okay!)  You did very well in not letting the time change Sunday be a negative but instead attended our services very well!  The Lord blessed in all three of our services yesterday and it was a joy to baptize two in the 10:30AM service and then four more in the 6:00PM service.  It was also a joy to have Scott Older join the Friendship family by transfer of letter last night.  So, as always, we give God the glory as He, and He alone, gives the increase!

Our GRACE meal was a success too!  Thanks to those who participated and to the members of the student ministry committee and students who did the cooking, serving, cleaning, et cetera.

Idice Reeves remains hospitalized and I will go visit with her this morning.  As far as I know, we do not have anyone else in the hospital at this point.  Rhea Wilkinson had some oral surgery on her teeth last week and was still having some difficulties because of that yesterday.  Pray for these folks!

A couple of things that I missed last week – Scott Eckert’s mother spent some time in the hospital and Rhett Butler’s grandmother passed away.  Her service was held last Wednesday.  I will get an update on Scott’s mother.

The college team arrive safely in Guatemala.  Word has it that Joey, Mitchel, and Dewayne are really struggling with Troy being gone!  However, there is no need to pray for “Troy’s boys” (per Sammy Bowden).

Tonya L. Henderson surprised me last night by showing up for our church service.  She was actually just needing gas money to get home but it was good to see her nonetheless!

The Bama basketball team “crushed” Vandy this past Saturday which probably means they are about to return to the days of Wimp and mow through the SEC tourney!

T. Garrett, your grandmother told me all about the trip to Hawaii with you!

Hope you have a great Monday with Jesus!

SATURDAY, 3/8/08

I am posting this morning to update on some prayer needs and to remind you to “spring forward” tonight.

First, I just received a call from Lisa’s father, Charles Clark, telling me of a 13 year old boy who was at the skating rink in GB last night.  He went home and told his parents that he did not feel well.  They called an ambulance who in turn called South Flight and the young man passed away while being taken to the hospital.  The family lives in Grand Bay.  They certainly need our prayer support during this time of shock and sorrow.

Idice Reeves was admitted to the hospital this past Thursday.  I am told that is was perhaps a stroke.  I visited with her yesterday and we had a good conversation although she struggled to get the words out and in sentence form.  What a sweet, sweet lady!  I have plans to visit her again today.

Lorraine Bradley took a fall and broke a hip.  I do know that she had surgery and that went well according to the reports I am receiving.  Lorraine lives in TN with David & Donna.

Jack Leasure did well through his procedure and came home yesterday afternoon.

Eighteen folks from USA, UAB, and Troy University are bound for Guatemala this morning.  Troy Brock is with this team as he will serve as a driver.  Pray for this team as they minister this next week through house building, VBS, et cetera.

SPRING FORWARD!  Please don’t forget to move your clocks forward one hour tonight before going to bed!

Our GRACE meal will be served tomorrow too and I hope you will join us for this food and fellowship.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.
