TUESDAY, 12/20/11

Elliot Grace Taylor made her debut into this world at 4:48PM yesterday afternoon weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces.  She is 21 inches long.  It is my  understanding that mother and daughter are both doing well.  Congratulations to Jay & Rebecca, Sonny & Jeanette Bates, Jay’s parents, and Miss Kittie Camp.

Bro. Jerry Whitmore sent me an e-mail saying that Miss Gloria did well through her surgery.  If all goes as planned, she should be discharged from the hospital on Thursday.  Keep praying for her as she recovers.

My younger brother, Freddie, broke two bones in his leg yesterday afternoon and had surgery last night.  It is my understanding that the breaks were severe.  He is a sheriff’s deputy and was in pursuit of someone trying to escape from a courtroom or something like that.  Pray for him as he will be hospitalized for a few days.

T. Garrett Wright gave us all of his time yesterday so he could serve as a tour guide.  We saw Lady Liberty, Ground Zero, the Empire State Building, Chinatown, Little Italy, Times Square, et cetera.  We began the day by walking across the Brooklyn Bridge.  Long, but very good, day.  We are blessed by T. Garrett’s graciousness!

Bro. Robbie Howard will be preaching in the 10:00AM & 7:00PM services tomorrow.  Lord willing, I will be home and will be a part of the 8:00PM Bible study held in our house.  Those folks need to remember to bring a dish of food, drink, or something plus a gift for the game.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus!

MONDAY, 12/19/11

Good morning from Brooklyn, New York.  Lisa, Dana, Gina, & I arrived here Saturday compliments (for Lisa and me) of the church family for pastor appreciation.  (I will recap at the end of this post)

Miss Gloria Whitmore is scheduled to have hip replacement surgery later this morning.  Pray that will go well.  Once she has fully recovered, Bro. Jerry Whitmore will have knee replacement surgery.

Rebecca Bates Taylor is in the hospital and should be giving birth today.  Pray that all goes well in the delivery process.  (I will update later but it could be late tonight as I will not be around a computer until then)

Ed Williams cousin, Jay Heath, passed away yesterday.  He was a young man as he was only 40 years of age.  Pray for the Heath family.

Keep praying for the Jackson family too.  The service for Mr. Jackson was this past Saturday.  Thanks to all who ministered to Teddy Ray and family during that time.

My dad passed out yesterday morning.  He called asking us to pray for him.  He did get better and attended church.  Not sure what is going on there with the fainting.

I appreciate Morris Bryant teaching our Sunday School class yesterday and Ed Williams preaching in the morning services.  I understand the adult choir did a nice job last night too.

Lisa, Dana, Gina, & I left the hotel room at 7:45AM yesterday and attended three worship services (9:00AM, 12:00PM, and 3:00PM) arriving back in the room at 5:15PM (it is a five minute walk tops from our room to the Brooklyn Tabernacle).  We heard an associate pastor preach in the first service, Pastor Cymbala in the second service, and the choir/drama team did a Christmas presentation in the third service which was awesome!  The last service had 1,200 folks watching from an overflow room.  Folks, it is crazy!  It was a long day but a blessed one for me!  Thank you for affording us the opportunity!

T. Garrett Wright and his lovely wife, Johna, treated us to a fabulous meal last night.  They were with us Saturday night too.  What a delightful couple!  They are so kind to Lisa, the girls, and me.  We will see them again before we depart on Wednesday.

I ask you to pray now about being in attendance this Sunday, 12/25, for our 10:30AM Christmas service.  Lets fill the house!  Of course, we will have our Christmas eve service from 5:00 – 6:00PM on Saturday.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 12/16/11

The arrangements for Mr. Andrew Jackson are as follows:  visitation with the family from 11:00AM  until the 1:00PM service time on Saturday, 12/17.  The visitation and service will take place in the First Baptist Church of Bayou La Batre.  Pray for Teddy Ray and the family.

Chris Cavin is having some oral surgery today.  Pray for him.  (Actually, pray for him daily as he deals with Courtney – LOL!)

Rebecca Bates Taylor is scheduled to be admitted to the hospital on Sunday night and give birth to her first child on Monday, 12/19.  Pray for Rebecca, Jay, and the baby.

So, Donald Butler knows where Idabel, Oklahoma is located!  I am amazed!  I think the funeral was actually in Tom, OK but I saw all of those other places Donald mentioned in his comment to yesterday’s post.

I remind the members of the Friendship family about two important happenings this Sunday.  First, the adult choir will present their Christmas musical at 6:00PM.  Second, there will be  a church wide fellowship immediately following that service.  Marisa asks that you bring desserts!

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 12/15/11

Good morning from Shreveport, Louisiana!  Soy & I (with the emphasis on “I”) have driven through the night having now stopped (5:00AM) to catch a couple of hours of sleep and get a shower.

I failed to mention in last night’s post that Conner Ferguson got some really good news from the doctor in Jackson, MS yesterday morning.  The doctor was very optimistic about Conner’s situation.  That is great!

Austin Jackson sent a text to Soy last night saying that the visitation and funeral service for Mr. Andrew Jackson will take place on Saturday.  The times will be finalized today.  Keep praying for the Jackson family.

Soy & I will leave here in a couple of hours to continue our journey to Idabel, OK.  (Never heard of it?  It is basically where God stopped when He was creating the world!  LOL!)  Pray for the service today at noon.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 12/14/11 UPDATE

Xavier Blackwell and Carson Casarez both did well through their surgeries.  Carson will stay overnight while Xavier will most likely be in the hospital until Sunday or Monday.  Pray for their recovery.

It is almost 7:30PM and Lisa & I just got home from Birmingham.  I had a couple of e-mails informing me that Teddy Ray Jackson’s dad, Mr. Andrew Jackson, passed away around noon today.  Pray for the family.  We will post the arrangements when they are finalized.

I will teach the 8:00PM Bible study and then Soy and I will get in the car to drive to Idabell, Oklahoma to preach the funeral tomorrow at noon.  It is approximately a nine hour drive so pray for traveling mercies.

WEDNESDAY, 12/14/11

Good morning from Birmingham!  Sorry this post is late but I did not have internet access until now.  The hotel did not offer free internet and I have enough Dutch friends in Michigan that they have rubbed off on me!  When Al Gore invented the internet he intended for it to be free!  He will hear from me!  (I may just have Pastor Jack Bailey tell him for me as they communicate regularly!)

Pray for Xavier Blackwell and Carson Casarez as they are both having surgery in B’ham today.  David Westhouse is having hip replacement surgery today in Michigan.

Carla Kyser is receiving another treatment today.  Jerry Poiroux was sent home and will have surgery next week.  He began vacation last Friday – what a great vacation!

Caroline’s nephew will be buried in Idabel, Oklahoma tomorrow at noon.  I will drive home this afternoon/evening and then head to OK to preach that service.  Pray for traveling mercies for me.

We are on a regular schedule today – morning and evening.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 12/13/11

Jerry Poiroux went in for surgery yesterday morning.  The surgeon had plans to remove the kidney stone that had been causing Jerry’s pain.  However, he was not able to complete the surgery because he felt there could be some infection.  So, he placed a stent and will wait a few days before trying again.  I do not know if they allowed Jerry to come home or not.

The cardiologist said Conner Ferguson needs to be in the hospital in Birmingham.  However, the Birmingham hospital cannot take him at this time.  So, he will go to Jackson, MS tomorrow for some tests and they will go from there.

Melissa Brown’s grandson, Hunter, remains hospitalized.  If he remains fever free for twenty four consecutive hours, he will be discharged.  He has pneumonia in both lungs but is greatly improved.

Larry Moss is in a local hospital.  He could be discharged today.

Caroline Ford’s nephew, James, passed away yesterday.  They will have a service in Oklahoma later this week.

The visitation/service for Hilda’s brother, Dean Switzer, will take place on Thursday, 12/15, from noon until 2:00PM at the Holder Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point.

Xavier Blackwell will have surgery tomorrow in Birmingham.  Lord willing, I will be there to be with the family.

Our friend, David Westhouse, from Moline, Michigan will have hip replacement surgery tomorrow.

Rebecca Bates Taylor will be put in the hospital this Sunday night, 12/18, and have her baby on Monday, 12/19.  Obviously, she could go into labor  on her own prior to Monday but, if not, this is the plan.

Gloria Whitmore met with the doctor yesterday and it was determined that she will have hip replacement surgery on Monday, 12/19.

My dad will have a couple of tests performed tomorrow to determine whether he needs surgery.  He has been in a lot of pain in recent weeks.

Pray for all of these needs that have been mentioned along with those who are battling cancer.

I am not a huge fan of the NFL but I was glad to see the Broncos win this past Sunday.  Why?  Because of Charles Barkley’s comments about Tim Tebow last week.  IMO, dumb on Barkley’s part!  Am I surprised?

I am glad for Jim McElwain and hope he does well at CSU!  It has been a good four year run for him at Bama.

I also hope that Michael Dyer does not ruin an excellent opportunity to possibly end up in the NFL and be set for life financially.

Friendship family, we are on a regular schedule tomorrow.  Hope you will be present!  Do not forget the adult choir musical this Sunday evening, 12/18, at 6:00PM.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 12/12/11

Yesterday was a full day and a blessed day.  We had an extremely good attendance in our two morning services and a very good attendance in our evening service.  Our students/leaders were blessed in their ministry to the homeless as well.  The student choir did a nice job in sharing the Gospel in song during the evening service.  We give God the glory!

Melissa Brown’s grandson, Hunter, is in the hospital with an infection.

Hilda Gunter’s brother, Dean Switzer, passed away yesterday.  The arrangements are incomplete.  Pray for this family.

Teddy Ray’s father, Andrew, remains hospitalized.

Conner Ferguson spent some time in the hospital last week and sees the doctor today.  He could be put back into the hospital.

Jerry Poiroux had a tough week with kidney stone problems and they will do surgery either today or tomorrow.

Adam Blackwell is scheduled to arrive in Birmingham tonight.  He is stationed in Germany.  Xavier’s surgery is scheduled for Wednesday.

Carla Kyser has another treatment this week.  Earl Gunter & Chuck Rockwell continue to receive radiation treatments.  Pray for all of these needs.

Lisa and I are thankful to Marisa Felps and Lynne Watson for their help in hosting the open house yesterday.  We enjoyed having folks visit with us.  Thank you to each person who came.  Thank you to those who brought gifts – totally unexpected but deeply appreciated.

Folks have asked about our New Year’s Day schedule.  We will have a regular Sunday with two exceptions – we will not run our buses and we will not have Discipleship Training.  Otherwise, everything is normal i.e. Sunday School and the four worship services.

The Cowboys went down again last night as they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!  Deanna Rhyne – you gotta love it!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus!

FRIDAY, 12/9/11 UPDATED

First, the senior adults (Sammy, Blow Joe, Belvin, et cetera) are reminded of their Christmas fellowship tomorrow morning, 12/10, beginning at 11:00AM.  This will take place at the home of Bro. Jerry & Tena Hovel.  (Isn’t it sweet for one senior adult, Tena, to host the rest of the senior adults?)

Visited the hospitals this morning and found that Edwin Blackmon & Richard Glass are being discharged today.

Miss Rhoads could “possibly” be discharged today or tomorrow.

Miss Walley will be discharged either tomorrow or Sunday.  She had knee replacement surgery and is doing great.

Mr. Jackson will most likely remain hospitalized for a few more days.  His oxygen level is low.

FRIDAY, 12/9/11

Edwin Blackmon is in a local hospital.  Eula Mae was thinking he may get discharged yesterday afternoon but I am not sure if that happened or not.

Miss Walley did well through her surgery and will remain in the hospital for two or three days.

Richard Glass, Andrew Jackson and Miss Ellen Rhoads all remain in the hospital.

Jerry Whitmore sent me an e-mail last night saying that Gloria will have to have hip replacement surgery.  They meet with the surgeon this morning.

Upward basketball takes place tomorrow.  Pray for Kristy and those who assist her in this ministry.

The Finance Committee meets this Sunday, 12/11, at 5:00PM.

We are on a regular December schedule this Sunday.  Our Christmas open house takes place from 3:30 – 5:30PM.

What is Davis Stern thinking?  Chris Paul belongs in LA!  Bud did not stop Pujols from going to the Angels!

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus!
