MONDAY, 5/21/12

The Lord certainly blessed us with a good day in our services yesterday.  The proverbial “icing on the cake” was to see four adults follow Jesus in believer’s baptism as a part of our service last night.  God gives the increase and we give Him the glory!

It has certainly been good to have Gene & Gena Davis in our services the past two Sundays.  It is always good to see Gena!  LOL!

I have an unspoken prayer request for today.  The Lord knows and I simply ask you to join me in praying.

We are blessed by the fact that we presently do not have anyone in the hospital.  Our daughter, Gina, will have a surgical procedure on Wednesday morning.  TJ & Lindsey Vice’s son, Parker, will have a surgical procedure on Friday.

My mama is doing good.  My dad sees a specialist on Wednesday afternoon.  He has something in his left kidney that has the doctors concerned and he also has kidney stones.

Can you believe it?  I picked the first okra of the year this past Friday and Saturday.  It was not much but I was so looking forward to my first taste of fried okra for our Sunday dinner.  Lisa stewed it instead of frying it – yuk!  Believe me when I tell you that it will not happen again!

Levi & I are not happy campers as the Lakers will most likely be closed out by the Thunder in the next game.  Meanwhile, those Celtics and the Heat continue to win.  Life is not fair!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 5/18/12

Got reports from Grant Collier and Carla Kyser yesterday via text and e-mail respectfully.  Grant’s situation is Bell’s Palsy and that is good considering what the outcome could have been.  Carla’s scan was stable so they will continue to course.  Keep praying for these folks.

Ladies, please remember the baby shower for Drew & Andrea Timberlake this Sunday, 5/20, from 2:00PM – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  It is a girl!

My mama was discharged from the hospital late yesterday afternoon.  We give God the thanks!  Lisa and I took her to get a boat load of medicines before taking her home.  She is doing good.

My dad was taken to an urgent care facility yesterday afternoon.  He has several kidney stones and one appears to be blocking something.  He will see a specialist as soon as possible and then go from there.  The doctor gave him pain medicines and sent him home.

It is 2:30AM as I write this entry.  Lisa and I are home having arrived here at 2:00AM.  My wife is the greatest (I am very biased!) as she has given up a week of her work to be with me and my family.  She is such a sweetheart!  She even drove from Cullman to Clanton last night so I could rest before finishing the drive home.

I am glad to be home.  The first thing I did was to go check my garden.  We are picking snap beans and now have okra.  The peas and corn will be ready shortly.  God is good!  It kills me to say this but Soy (yes, Soy) has been a huge help to me in the garden this week.

The second thing I did was to go give Dana and Gina a kiss.  I have missed the girls and the grandchildren.  I thank God for my family.  I am blessed!

I have changed my mind about my funeral plans.   I now want Pastor Jack Bailey to preach it and June, Hope, & Holly to serve the food.  This should assure that my family will be adequately entertained at the post funeral meal.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 5/17/12

Bro. Jerry & Tena Hovel’s grandson, Noah, was taken to the emergency room with a high fever (103).  He was diagnosed with a double ear infection.  Pray for him.

I do not have an update on Grant Collier or Carla Kyser.  I pray that everything went well in their respective situations.

We had five folks join the Friendship family on Sunday morning and I listed them in the letter I wrote yesterday morning.  However, I did not realize that Buddy Brewer joined the Friendship family on Sunday evening.  He and I had a conversation a couple of weeks ago and I knew that he was planning on moving his letter from a sister Baptist church.  I apologize for this oversight on my part.  We welcome Buddy to the Friendship family.

It is 3:45AM as I finish this entry.  Deidra and Daphne just left to return home.  Pray for traveling mercy for them.  Mama was moved to a room yesterday afternoon.  Hopefully she will go home tomorrow.  She is doing good.  One of my maternal aunts, Pam, and her husband, Danny, came by for a visit yesterday.  It was good to see them as it has been years since I last saw them.  Spencer Cole took us to supper last night.  We have had a great support network and we are grateful.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/16/12 (UPDATED)

I failed to mention in today’s earlier post that Grant Collier is scheduled to have a MRI today.  Pray for Grant and his parents, Eric & Sanna Collier.

I just spoke with mama’s doctor.  She will be moved to the step down unit today and will also have an echocardiogram.  If all goes well, she will be discharged on Friday.  The damage to her heart was minimal as the doctor said she did not have a “major” heart attack based on their measuring system.  (He also had said that if she had waited another couple of hours before going to the hospital it would have most likely been fatal)  The doctor has changed some of her medications and plans on doing either the balloon or another stent in about a month.

We are blessed and appreciate the prayer support.

WEDNESDAY, 5/16/12

Important notice – we are on a regular schedule today with one exception.  There will be no 8:00PM Bible study for our young adults.  Deidra and Daphne will be joining Lisa and me in Huntsville today so there is no one to host that Bible study.

Pray for Carla Kyser as she is scheduled to receive another treatment today.

It is 3:30AM as I write this entry and my mama remains in CCU.  Lisa and I are staying in a hotel very, very close to the hospital.  I am believing that mama will be moved to a room in the step down unit today but that will only happen if she has no more “chest discomfort” which she did have yesterday morning.

Lisa and I are overwhelmed at the support (prayer and otherwise) we have received here and from home.  Please know that we are very, very thankful for every text, voice mail message, e-mail.  I have not attempted to reply to the messages individually but please do not take that as our being ungrateful because we are most definitely grateful.

Dr. Jack Bailey, Joe David  Bailey, Dr. Rex Looney and Spencer Cole all visited with my family yesterday before Lisa and I arrived at the hospital.  Thank you!  The waiting room was filled with folks last night.

I am going to the hospital early today in hopes of meeting with a doctor.  The hospital staff has been excellent especially the nurses in CCU.  We are blessed.

I have simply taken this week as vacation.  I do not know when I will return home but, Lord willing, I will be in the pulpit this Sunday morning and evening.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.  Thanks for praying!

TUESDAY, 5/15/12

I had called a couple of folks last night to tell them that I was almost home and would then be immediately leaving to drive back to Huntsville, Alabama.  However, my plans changed slightly.

As Lisa and I were driving home last night, my sister called to tell me that they were taking our mama to the hospital as she was having chest pains.  Long story short – when they got to the Decatur Hospital the doctor determined that she was having an active heart attack.  They immediately transferred her to the Huntsville Hospital where a heart cath was done.  She had a 90% blockage on the lower portion of her heart and an 80% blockage on the upper portion.  The lower portion of her heart suffered damage from the heart attack.  The doctor inserted a stent in the lower portion and placed her in CCU.  According to him, she will be in the hospital for the next three or four days.

So, I plan on leaving at some point this morning to go visit with mama.  I simply plan to play it by ear as to when I will return home.  I would appreciate your prayers for mama.  I was deeply concerned last night as my mama’s dad suffered a fatal heart attack on May 13, 1970 so there is a family history.  Honestly, I was also very grateful that Lisa and I had seen mama on Sunday night and yesterday.  We spent a couple of hours yesterday morning with her and dad snapping green beans.

Carla Kyser will have a scan this morning and a treatment tomorrow.  Pray that all goes well for her.

Bill & Debbie’s grandson, Josh, is home from the hospital.  Praise the Lord!

Pastor Jack Bailey did a very good job preaching Miss Sarah Reeder’s funeral service.  The Danville Baptist family did a very good of ministering to Miss Sarah’s family.

I do want to say a word of appreciation to Pastor Patrick (my parent’s pastor) and Joe David Bailey (Associate Pastor of DBC) for being with my family at the hospital last night.  It was a call above duty and it is appreciated.

It is almost 12:30AM and it has been a long day with some added stress the last 75 minutes or so on the drive home and then waiting for the results of the heart cath.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 5/14/12

The Lord blessed and we had a really services yesterday morning.  It was a blessing to see five folks join the Friendship family during the 10:30AM service.  One came by letter while the other four came for baptism.  We give God the glory!

Dr. Robbie Howard preached during our 6:00PM service last night and I appreciate that so much.  I am told that he did his usual great job even though the attendance was not up to par.  Thank you to those who attended that service.

We recognized Miss Ica Walley (87) and Miss Nell Mulkey (96) as the oldest mothers present in our two morning services yesterday.

Lisa and I had an uneventful trip to Danville yesterday afternoon.  My sister, two brothers, along with about 20 other family members (I am including Dr. Jack & Joe David as family members) joined my parents for supper at the Cracker Barrel in Hartselle.  What a great time!  It was a great Mother’s Day gift for mama!

We will spend more time with family today before attending the visitation and the funeral service for Miss Sarah Reeder.  Lord willing, Lisa and I will arrive in Grand Bay late tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 5/12/12

Bill Kendrick e-mail late last night to say that their grandson, Josh, in Alaska is back in the hospital.  He was having asthma like symptoms.  Pray for Josh and his parents.

My older brother’s mother-in-law, Miss Sarah Reeder, passed away shortly after noon yesterday.  I ask you to pray for Sue and the family.  Eddie is scheduled to arrive from China tomorrow night.  Lisa and I will, Lord willing, attend the visitation/service on Monday.

The Grizzlies stayed alive last night – hooray!  Pulling for the Lakers tonight!

I hope to see many of you in our services tomorrow.  I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus!

FRIDAY, 5/11/12

Peggy Benefield had a calcium build up in a stent that had been previously placed in her heart.  The doctor cleaned it out and she should be good to go.  Praise the Lord!

Mac McGriff’s sister, Linda, is doing well and should be moved from the ICU in a few more days.

Jose Fernando in Guatemala has been diagnosed with “Fanconi’s Anemia” which is a disease that has to do with bone marrow and can lead to leukemia.

Bro. Chris’ uncle-in-law, Floyd Lowery, is not doing well.  Tommy Johnson’s dad is taking radiation treatments.  Grant Collier is awaiting his MRI.

Paul & Cristy Leytham were our guests last night.  He is looking great and doing well in his battle with cancer.  As always, it was good to see them.

We are on a regular schedule this weekend.  Obviously, we will honor all mothers in our morning services and will have our annual parent/child dedication as a part of our 10:30AM service.

The game officials basically handed last night’s game to the Celtics!  Once again the Lakers were robbed!  (Kobe was violently ill but he still played almost the entire game – wow!)  I think Artest should be back for game seven which could make a difference (one way or the other!)

My family is great!  They allowed me to pick a five gallon bucket full of snap beans yesterday morning and then snap them all by myself last night!  Isn’t that awesome?  (Deidra did pick a bucket of beans while I was in Guatemala and I think Ann snapped those)  Has Soy helped in the garden?  Are you kidding?  He would need a GPS just to find the garden!

Thanks to Tony Hacker, Hien’s room is now cool.  I appreciate Tony’s help yesterday!

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.  Go to church!

THURSDAY, 5/10/12

Peggy Benefield was admitted to the hospital yesterday and will have a heart cath today.  She had one not too very long ago but the doctor says this is the only way to get a clear picture of what is happening.

Bro. Chris has an uncle-in-law, Floyd Lowery, who has been diagnosed with cancer.  It is pretty advanced.

Tommy Johnson’s dad has begun radiation treatments.

Grant Collier was able to go to school yesterday.  He will have a MRI next Wednesday.

Charles Clark’s sister, Virginia, remains hospitalized.

Mac McGriff’s sister, Linda, continues to recover from her surgery.  She remains in ICU.

The mother/daughter banquet takes place tonight beginning at 6:00PM.  All ladies are invited to attend!

We had a good day/night in our services yesterday.  Robert Waldrop led our 8:00PM Bible study and did a really nice job.

The Caps have extended their series against the Rangers to a seventh game.  That makes Bro. Jerry Whitmore happy!

I do not know if I dislike the Celtics or the Heat the most.  (Wait, it is the Celitcs!)  I am not a Knicks fan either but I wish they would have beaten the Heat.  It was good to see the Grizzlies beat the Clippers last night.

I am about to spend a few minutes in the garden.  Someone asked the other day why I have a garden?  Because one of my life goals is to be like Pastor Jack Bailey and he has a garden!  (I just hope my girls do not turn out like Hope!)  Gotta pick snap beans today.

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus.
