OBITUARY FOR MISS HELEN CURTIS

Helen Alley Curtis
Nov. 24, 1928 – Sept. 23, 2013
Helen Alley Curtis, born November 24, 1928, went home to be with the Lord on September 23, 2013. Helen was predeceased by her parents Nay and Francis Alley, her brother Arthur Alley, her two sisters Evelyn Bradford and Mary Francis Leonard, and a nephew Dennis Bradford.
Helen lived her life in Lenoir, North Carolina and married Q.T. Curtis in Gaffney, South Carolina, on February 16, 1947. They came south when he accepted the call to preach the Gospel. While still in New Orleans at the Baptist Theological Seminary, they got the call for him to pastor Mexia Baptist. He commuted until graduation, then soon after was called to Southside in Monroeville. In 1960, they moved to Mobile where she lived the rest of her days. While they pastored Sage Avenue Baptist Church, she was a faithful member who served the church in many capacities. She was a Sunday School teacher, a Training Union teacher, WMU President, nursery director, Church hostess, and led many church sponsored tours around the U.S. and the Holy Land.
After their retirement, she continued to support and work with her husband at each of his many interims as they continued in the ministry.
She leaves behind a loving a devoted family: Her husband of 66 years, Rev. Quincy T. Curtis; her four sons, Terry (Jeanie), Robert, Dwight (Debbie), and Ronald (Sabrina); fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to thank her special caregiver Ms. Hillman and the loving staff at Ashland Place Health and Rehabilitation Center.
There will be a private graveside service for the family followed by visitation at Sage Avenue Baptist Church on Thursday, September 26 from 10:00 a.m. until time for the funeral service at Noon.
Pallbearers will be Helen’s grandsons: Brey Curtis, Casey Curtis, Quincy Curtis, Dustin Curtis, Ben Curtis, Chip Curtis, Jake Curtis, and Gainer Curtis.
