FRIDAY, 4/23/10

Lois Kirschenman is scheduled to have surgery this afternoon.  It is supposed to be an early afternoon (1:00PM) start but who knows.  At any rate, pray that everything goes well during the procedure.

Carlton & Lorraine Brouwer, along with many members of their family, are great friends and wonderful supporters of GRACE Ministries.  They have been on several trips to Guatemala with us.  Carlton, 84 years old, had major heart surgery in Grand Rapids, MI yesterday.  He did well through the surgery.  Pray for his complete recovery.

Faith Hovel continues to do well.  Donnie is in a room and is doing okay but was receiving oxygen yesterday.  As far as I know, everyone else is about the same or better.  Keep praying!

Thanks to Tim Knighten & Soy for putting the lights back in place yesterday afternoon.  Still a little work to do but a taller ladder is needed.  They will get to that today.

Spoke to Ken Freeman ever so briefly via the phone yesterday to assure him of our prayer support.  Pray, attend, and bring others with you this Sunday morning at 10:30AM.

I watched some of the draft last night.  Obviously, it was nice to see Ro & KJ go in the first round.  How about those Sooners?  Three Sooners in the first four picks and four in the first round – impressive!  (Does that speak to Stoops inability as a coach?  Just saying!)  The Big 12 had 9 players taken in the first round followed by 7 from the SEC so that was half of the first round picks.

Personally, I was glad to see Tebow taken in the first round.  Disappointed that he didn’t mentioned Jesus during his initial interview with ESPN.  I was gald to see MK, Jr. about to “blow a fuse” because his boy, Clausen, wasn’t taken in the first round.  MK, the expert, had been promoting him as the possible first pick – maybe he meant of the second round!

My Lakers got beat by OKC and the Dodgers lost again to the Reds.  Double ouch!  The officials are killing us!

Gotta go cut grass before the surgery commences.  Hope you have a great Friday with Jesus!

THURSDAY, 4/22/10

One of my first cousins, Brad Turrentine, is having brain surgery this morning in Birmingham.  This is the same cousin who had surgery for a tumor a couple of months ago and the only found an infection.  They are going in to “clean out” that infection today.

Donnie Felps was moved to a regular room yesterday afternoon.  Marisa sent a text saying he was “tired” but they are one step closer to home.  Carla received her chemotherapy treatment yesterday too.

Faith Hovel is making great progress.  Her vital organs are all working properly and they took her off of the breathing machine yesterday afternoon.  Praise the Lord!

Oscar Petersen was in our service yesterday morning.  I could tell it drained him a bit (my preaching tends to have that effect on folks) but he looked really well.  It’s hard to keep an old Montana State guy down!

Lois Kirschenman will have her surgery tomorrow afternoon.

The comment line was busy yesterday.  Wes mentioned the Cubs.  Steve Morris is a Cardinals fan – please!  Their hitting coach. . . .   Jerry Whitmore wants me to keep up with the NHL playoffs – pleeeeeaaaaassssseeeee!  Do I look like Rex Looney?  Why don’t we go ahead and use this as a means to keep up with shuffleboard scores?

By the way, if I heard correctly last week, Oscar mentioned to me that he used to play water polo!  Is that the same as “marco polo?”

I have unofficially placed Dawn Hacker in charge of getting horses for our VBS.  We may have Bro. Jerry & Miss Myrtle ride in each morning on a horse.  Can you see it?  By the way, we still need workers for our VBS.

Our Spanish ministry needs help in two areas – folks to help provide the meal each week.  Those folks can contact Lisa.  We also need some folks to help build a “futbol” (soccer) field on the back property.  If interested, please contact me personally.  I need someone (Stan Hatcher?) to lead this effort!

My niece, Jamie, has abandoned me.  She no longer takes my calls or anything.  What’s up with that?

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus!

WEDNESDAY, 4/21/10

Faith Hovel continues to do well following her birth and subsequent surgery.  Her father, Josh, was working at a new job Monday when he apparently got something in his eye which is causing him some problems.  Keep praying for Josh, Desi, Faith & Gabriel.

Lisa & I visited with Adrienne Babb yesterday morning.  She is banged up but feeling blessed.  Her mother, Jayne English, is seemingly making some slight improvements.  Amy English was discharged from the hospital on Monday evening.

Bro. Benny McGath’s father did well through his surgery.  Bro. Benny will be driving into the night as he comes home.  Pray for traveling mercies for him.

Donnie Felps was sitting in a chair yesterday afternoon.  They hope to move him from the CCU today.  Carla says he will come home on Friday but I say tomorrow.  Neither of us know what the doctor is saying but I hope I am right!  Carla receives another chemotherapy treatment today.

Susan Quinn received her second radiation treatment yesterday.  The treatments are zapping her of her energy.

Miss Lucine Bryant did not see the doctor on Monday but had a phone consultation.  He took some of her meds away and will evaluate her again in the near future.  She is having a pretty rough go of it.

I spoke to Oscar via the phone last night and he is on the mend.  Miss Joyce Bosarge & Bill Abendroth continue their respective battles against cancer.  Gage Hudson is still receiving radiation but Grandma Pattie is out of town so we aren’t getting our regular updates.  Pray for all of these folks.

The members of the CAB renovation committee (Sammy Bowden, Melissa Brown, Laurie Chandler, Tony Hacker, John Meredith, Carl Moulds, & Jerry Whitmore) are asked to meet at 6:15PM tonight in the CAB.

I am asking folks to attend the 10:30AM service this Sunday as Ken Freeman will be the messenger.  (I will be preaching in the 8:00AM service)  Pray, pray, & pray some more!

The Dodgers are struggling as they lost again last night.  John Meredith, go see them and give them a word of encouragement!  The Lakers were able to hold on and take a 2 – 0 lead on OKC in the playoffs.

Regular Wednesday here.  By the way, Steve Osborn from Love the Child Children’s Home will be with us in two weeks (5/5).

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 4/20/10

Bro. Benny McGath’s father will have surgery in Illinois today.  Bro. Benny is there with him.

Marisa e-mailed me late yesterday afternoon to say that Donnie had the breathing tube removed already – awesome!  However, she said that he wasn’t ready to come home.

Faith is still recovering from her surgery.  Again, the first 24 hours are crucial to her complete recovery.

Carla Kyser told me yesterday that her next chemotherapy treatment is scheduled for tomorrow.  She will have a few good days and then it goes down hill for a few weeks with the sores and fatigue.

Carla Cooper called yesterday afternoon to say that the doctors do not feel Glen’s dad has cancer.  They will be doing surgery next Tuesday morning, 4/27.

I don’t have an update on Susan Quinn or Miss Lucine.  I will most likely post those updates tomorrow.  I also plan on visiting with Adrienne Babb this morning so I will be able to give an update on her situation and her mom’s.

We have a team from the Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham using the L.G. Camp, Jr. Mission House this week having arrived yesterday afternoon.  They are being led by their Pastor, Breck Ladd.  Pastor Breck was introduced to GRACE Ministries by Terry Stephan as he served as an Associate Pastor at Dauphin Way Baptist before moving to Lakeside.

The CAB renovation committee is asked to meet tomorrow night, 4/21, at 6:15PM in the CAB.

Tony Hacker, Soy, & I went fishing for a few hours last Saturday.  We caught 110 white trout/ground mullet but I am not going to get into who caught the most.  It should have been Soy as I had to bait his hook and took both of his fish off the hook for him.  Dawn Hacker has forgotten more about fishing than Tony will ever know!  I think next time I will just go with Dawn & Lisa!

Again, Bro. Jerry is on vacation this week enjoying his newest grandchild.  Please don’t call or contact him regarding ministry/church stuff.

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

P.S. – Did you see where that 58 year old man is pitching for a college team in the Northeast?  I’m sending Mike Moreland’s name in to that school!

MONDAY, 4/19/10 UPDATE III

It is now 5:45PM and this is most likely my final update for the day.  Donnie Felps came through his surgery fine.  They did a triple by pass and will place a stent in his heart at some point in the future.

MONDAY, 4/19/10 UPDATE II

It is now noon and Bro. Kerry called about thirty minutes ago to give an update on Faith Hovel.  The surgery was successful.  The next 24 hours are crucial as they watch her to make certain everything functions properly.

Donnie is “in” the surgery room so his procedure should begin real soon.  Keep praying!

MONDAY, 4/19/10 UPDATE

It is 11:00AM and Mary Cook just learned that they are not going to induce before her due date which is 11 days away.  Gracey isn’t ready to make her grand appearance although James & Mary are ready for her arrival.

Faith’s surgery began around 10:00AM and was to last approximately one hour.  I will update again once I get a call.

Donnie Felps is in pre-op.  He was scheduled for a 10:30AM surgery but that has obviously been delayed.

Got to see Amy English, 9 year old daughter of Wayne & Valinda English, in the hospital this morning.  They will do another test today to see if see needs surgery or if a back brace will suffice.

Stay tuned!

MONDAY, 4/19/10

Faith Hovel will have surgery this morning.  God has already been doing a work in her life as the body is healing itself.  Pray that everything will go well today and that Faith will be on the road to a complete recovery.

Donnie Felps will have heart surgery this morning.  It appears this will be a single by pass as the area blocked cannot receive a stent.

Miss Lucine Bryant, Morris & Brenda’s mother, will see the doctor today.  Her heart is out of rhythm again and the medication was causing other problems.

Mary Cook will see the doctor today and there is the “possibility” they will induce her either today or tomorrow.  Gracey is on the way!

I have heard that Docia Thompson’s daughter will be giving birth today but I don’t know all of the details.

Lois Kirschenman has been cleared to have surgery but the surgery date hasn’t been set.  Will let you know!

Adrienne Babb remains in the hospital as a result of a car accident last Friday.  Her mother, Jayne English, has been moved back into the MICU and put on the ventilator.

Susan Quinn begins her radiation treatments today.  They will be doing those in Greenville, SC.

Bro. Benny McGath’s dad will have surgery in Illinois tomorrow.  Bro. Benny drove to his sister’s home in Indiana yesterday and they will drive to IL today.

John Meredith had his kidney stones crushed Friday.  Teddy Ray Jackson’s dad came home from the hospital yesterday.

Gabe Hudson, Carla Kyser, Joyce Bosarge, Bill Abendroth, & Danny Rossi are all either receiving radiation or chemotherapy treatments in their respective battles against cancer.

Miss Kittie Camp had another cousin, Grady Roberts, to pass away.

So, this Monday morning prayer list is long.  Thank you for praying for these folks and their needs.

We had a pretty good day in our services yesterday.  Miss Kathleen Henderson joined the Friendship family by transfer of letter.  We thank God for the increase.

Bro. Jerry Hovel is on vacation this week in order to be with Josh, Desi, Gabriel & Faith.  Please don’t call on him for ministry purposes.  The rest of the staff members are available.

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

SATURDAY, 4/17/10

Little Faith Hovel is now scheduled to have surgery on Monday.  I don’t know the details on the surgery but do know the doctors want to wait until Monday to perform it.  Deidra & I saw Josh & Desi last night and prayed with them.  Keep praying for Faith Marie Hovel.

Teddy Ray Jackson’s father, Andrew Jackson, is in a local hospital with congestive heart failure.  Pray for him.

I received an e-mail yesterday from Laurie King informing me that Danny Rossi has cancer.  Danny works at the seminary in Guatemala and has served as a translator for GRACE Ministries with the most recent time being the pastors’ conference last October.  He had surgery last week and will now undergo 3 – 6 sessions (3 times each session) of chemotherapy.  Pray for Danny.

Special thanks to Sammy & Myrtle Bowden for working on the electrical portion of Phase II yesterday.  Those rooms will be used tomorrow.

I pray that you will have a great Saturday with Jesus.

WELCOME FAITH MARIE HOVEL

Faith Marie Hovel, daughter of Josh & Desi Hovel and little sister of Gabriel, made her entrance into this world sometime after 5:00PM today.  She checked in weighing 5 pounds 10 ounces.

At the time of this writing, they are contemplating whether to do surgery tonight or in the morning.

Bro. Jerry says Faith & Desi are both doing good.  Pray for them.

Another prayer request – Donnie Felps had a heart cath today and it revealed a blockage in an area where a stent cannot be placed.  So, they sent him home and will do surgery either Monday or Tuesday.  Pray for Donnie & Marisa.
