FRIDAY, 5/20/11

To those who read this blog early in the day, I apologize for being late today.  To those who read it much later in the day, it is right on time!

Sara Nell Moulds is doing well following her surgery.  As a matter of fact, rumor has it that she “may” be discharged from the hospital today.  That would be awesome!

Maxine Dupont’s surgery went well yesterday and she most likely went home.

Bro. Benny and Bro. Dale have a big weekend planned for our bus/children’s ministries.  You are invited to join them for visitation tomorrow morning at 8:30AM.  They have some special activities planned for Sunday.  Pray for Bro. Benny, Bro. Dale, and these ministries.

I read that it thundered in Dallas last night.  That is good!

My hope is to see many members of the Friendship family in attendance at our various Bible studies/worship services this Sunday.   We are on a normal schedule.

I pray that you will have a great Friday with Jesus.

THURSDAY, 5/19/11

Good day in our services yesterday/last night.  I do not know the numbers but I do know the attendance in our 10:00AM & 7:00PM auditorium services was good as was the attendance in our 8:00PM Bible study.  Special thanks to Lisa, Deidra, & Ann for cooking breakfast for us – it was great!

Sara Nell Moulds did wonderful through her surgery.  She may not feel so “wonderful” this morning but the doctor was well pleased with the procedure.  She will be in the hospital for a few days.

Maxine Dupont will have surgery today to remove her gall bladder.  Pray for her.

It was great to see Larry Whitehurst in our 10:00AM service yesterday.  We continue to give God the glory for all He has done in Larry’s life.

Our good friend, Ross Genzink, flew in from Michigan last night in order to team up with Larry Crawley to finish the plumbing in the house the Lord is allowing us to build.  Ross flies home tonight so hopefully they will have a great day and will get things done.  Lisa & I really appreciate Ross taking time from his busy schedule to do this for us.  Of course, at the rate he charges, I would fly down too!  He demands first class seats, two hotels rooms, fruit in each room, meal vouchers, et cetera.  Should have just stuck with Larry as he only wants to go fishing!

I read where the heat was turned up in Chicago last night.  Not good!

I pray that you will have a great Thursday with Jesus!

WEDNESDAY, 5/18/11

Sara Nell Moulds will have hip replacement surgery this morning.  She is first on the schedule which means her surgery should begin around 7:30AM.  Pray that all will go well in surgery and that this will bring relief to Sara Nell.  Pray for Carl Ray and the family as they wait beside her during this time.

Maxine Dupont is scheduled for out patient surgery tomorrow.  They are going to relieve her of her gall bladder.

The Alma Bryant High School class of 2011 graduates today at 3:00PM.  Congratulations to that class.  I was told this is the largest class in Bryant’s history.  I cannot confirm that but I do know it either is or is not!

The Lord is good!  Yesterday, Lisa cooked supper for Bernard & Pattie.  She & I delivered that meal around 4:00PM.  I was surprised when Carla Cooper and Kenny showed up at our house with supper for us!  Folks, Glen Cooper can cook some of the best tasting ribs you will ever eat!  Add the trimmings and Carla’s honey bun cake and you are in food heaven!  An absolutely delicious meal.  I am very, very appreciative of this act of kindness by Glen, Carla, Kenny, & “little Glen”.

Speaking of providing a meal for Bernard & Pattie.  Debbie Hyatt has signed up for tomorrow night, 5/19.  It would probably be a good thing if we did Tuesday & Thursday nights for the next two/three weeks.  Call Bro. Jerry (445-5414) if you want to sign up to cook for them one night.  I think Deb is doing a possum casserole or something like that!

We are on a regular schedule for today.  Our 8:00PM Bible study group will be having breakfast food and will continue studying a lion, a pit and snow!  I hope to see many members of the Friendship family at one of our services/Bible studies this morning/tonight.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/17/11

Wow, did we enjoy a great day weather wise yesterday or what?  The temps this morning should be very nice again.  Folks, I do not complain about the weather but can be honest in saying that I am not a hot weather person.  Give me the cool (cold) temperatures and I am a happy camper.

We are in one of those “blessed” times as a church family as we have no one in the hospital.  Praise the Lord!  That changes tomorrow as Sara Nell Moulds has surgery.  Maxine Dupont follows suit on Thursday although her surgery is set to be out patient.  We pray for these ladies and praise the Lord too!

I had the opportunity to visit with Bernard Suthoff & his daughter, Lisa, yesterday afternoon.  She is in good spirits and is improving day by day.  Bernard & Pattie are proving to be good caregivers.  My wife will cook supper for them tonight.  I challenge others within the Friendship family to do the same.  We could provide two or three suppers each week for the next month or so.  He does not know it but I am going to ask Bro. Jerry Hovel to coordinate the calendar on this so if you want to “C4B&P” (cook for Bernard & Pattie) simply call Bro. Jerry at 445 5414.  This will keep us from overbooking.

Our GROW visitation takes place tonight beginning at 6:30PM.  I do not know which team is responsible for tonight but you can call Bro. Jerry to find out.

There is no heaven!  A pastor in a northern state says “love wins” which leads one to believe that we will all go to heaven and now a guys says there is no heaven.  Wow!  We will soon find out as the rapture is supposed to occur on 5/21 shortly before 6:00PM.  If the rapture does occur this Saturday,  I have asked Bro. Johnny Tucker to preach Sunday morning!  JK!

The show, “AMW” has been cancelled by Fox.  I am told that show has done a lot of good in solving crimes but I have never watched a single minute of any episode.  If they ever cancel the show, “Cops” then Deidra will be stressed!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.

MONDAY, 5/16/11

The Lord blessed and we had a good day in our services yesterday.  Special thanks to Tena Hovel and the other workers for leading our children’s choir last night.

Bro. Chris sent an e-mail around 1:00AM to ask that we pray for the Mize family.  Travis Mize is an 11th grader who is involved in our Wednesday night student ministry Bible studies.  His mother, Rosa, passed away.

Amazingly, Larry Whitehurst came home from the hospital on Saturday.  As a matter of fact, he came home straight from the ICU which is unusual.  I saw him yesterday afternoon and he is recovering nicely.  Again, we thank God for all He has done in Larry’s life.  We do serve an amazing God!

Bernard Suthoff’s daughter, Lisa, is at home but needs constant care from Bernard & Pattie.  Pray for all of them.

Sara Nell Moulds will have hip replacement surgery on Wednesday and Maxine Dupont will have gall bladder surgery on Thursday.  Pray for these ladies.

Carla Kyser continues to receive treatments.  Donald Butler’s dad remains hospitalized, I think.

Obviously, we did not go to Hackleburg today.  Danville Baptist had enough folks going to take care of the cooking so we will wait.  However, we are there in a sense as some of the funds provided by the Friendship family bought the meat for today’s meals.  Pray for Pastor Jack, Joe David, and the others as they minister there.

I am boycotting the NBA because it is rigged.  However, I did hear it thunder yesterday and noticed that the heat had been turned down!

I pray that you will have a great Monday with Jesus.

FRIDAY, 5/13/11

I have not heard an update on Larry Whitehurst since I left the hospital yesterday.  I figured the family was fielding plenty of calls and I live by the adage that “no news is good news!”  I simply ask that you keep praying for Larry.

Bro. Lewis Jackson has been having back pain and thought it could be kidney stones.  The doctors say “no” to this theory and are doing some testing to find the source of his pain.  He was in our service this past Wednesday night.  Pray for him.

Donald Butler put a comment on yesterday’s first post giving an update on his dad.  He still needs our prayers too.

Tomorrow is a big day in the life of Alisha Vice as she graduates from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.  Special congratulations to her!

This Sunday is a big day as we will recognize the Class of 2011 during our 10:30AM service.  Our children’s choir will present their Spring musical during our 6:00PM service.

Four of us “may” travel to Hackleburg on Monday to help the members of Danville Baptist Church feed folks breakfast, lunch, & supper.  They may have enough help and, if so, we will not go.  It is possible that we could be making some trips in the months ahead to help those affected by the tornadoes.

My time in the hospital waiting room proved beneficial yesterday.  I found someone to mow my grass at no charge.  I learned about rattlesnake beans.  I learned how to kill bugs in my garden and not have to wash the vegetables.  If I can only cure that dreaded “blossom rot” on my tomatoes!

I pray that you will have a great weekend with Jesus.

UPDATE ON LARRY WHITEHURST

Dr. Flotte ordered a MRI on Larry this morning before surgery in order to compare it to the initial one done several weeks ago.  He said there was basically no change.  So, the surgery began around 9:10AM which was later than anticipated.  At 10:10AM the nurse called to say the surgery was complete and asked the family to come meet with the doctor.

Dr. Flotte said the tumor appeared to be a benign pituitary one.  He said it was impossible to know how much of the tumor they removed but a MRI in a few months would give them a good idea.  They did not have to pack the indentation and do no anticipate having to do so.

Larry should be in an intensive care unit overnight and then in a regular room for two or three days.

Larry, Judy, and family are very thankful to each person who has prayed for them, offered words of encouragement, came to the hospital, et cetera.  Keep praying!

THURSDAY, 5/12/11

Larry Whitehurst is having surgery this morning to remove the tumor from his head.  This is a delicate surgery but should only take 2 – 3 hours.  As the Lord brings it to your mind, please pray for Larry beginning around 7:00AM today.  We are trusting God and believing all is going to be well in Larry’s life.

Bernard’s daughter, Leasa, is scheduled to be released from the hospital today.  Miss Vinnie Brewer’s son, Buddy, is hospitalized.  Donald Butler’s dad had triple bypass surgery yesterday but I do not have an update on him.  Randy Tillman has a test this Friday relating to his lung.  Carla Kyser is still receiving treatments as is Belvin McDonald.  Pray for these folks!

The piano has a home!  Lisa and I have simply been the caretakers for the piano that belonged to Marilyn Moss.  She left it for Craig or Jennifer.  At the present time, they do not need it so while I was at the Grand Bay Convalescent Home yesterday I asked Miss Marlene Hart if they wanted/needed it.  She was elated to accept it as Marilyn worked at the GBCH and their annual picnic is called the Marilyn Moss Picnic.  Thanks to Polly for suggesting the GBCH as a possible home!

Have I mentioned that the NBA is rigged?  Can you say Miami Heat world champions?  While it is always good to see Boston lose, it is equally bad to see Miami win!  (I did not see either as I am honoring my boycott!)

Hope you have a great Thursday with Jesus.

WEDNESDAY, 5/11/11

Word came to me last night via Miss Vinnie Brewer that Donald Butler’s father is having triple bypass heart surgery today.  He is 80 years of age so pray for Mr. Butler, the doctor performing the operation, all those giving assistance, and the Butler family as they wait.

Chuck Rockwell did come home from the hospital.  Saw Sue Blodgett at GROW last night and she said Roy has had a good week but they have several family members who are hospitalized including their son in Florida.  Pray for them.

Logan “JLo” Hatcher no longer has a catheter.  He is doing well up to this point.  Bernard Suthoff’s daughter, Lisa, remains hospitalized in Jackson, MS but is in a regular room.

We are on a regular schedule today with the 10:00AM service and the normal evening service/Bible studies.  The 8:00PM group begins a new study tonight.  The meal is going to be great!  If anyone sees Bre Woods, tell her Ken Freeman “may” be there.  (He will not but just the “maybe” part will be enough to get her there)

We need the folks who serve on the CAB renovation committee to meet in the CAB at 6:40PM tonight.  Important!

There will be a baby shower for Ross & Betty Clair Hatcher on Sunday, May 29, from 2:00 – 3:30PM in the fellowship hall.  It is a girl (Blair) and Betty Clair is registered at Target, Babies-R-Us, and Kountry Korner.  Ross would love to see Blair receive several “Bama girl” outfits!

Here is your internet special of the week:  Lisa and I have a Melville Clark piano that is in need of a good home.  It is house broken and likes children.  Interested?  Call us.  One catch – we are not Domino’s so we do not deliver!

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.

TUESDAY, 5/10/11

Chuck Rockwell was set to be discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon but I am not sure if that took place.  Daphne & Emmy did come home late yesterday morning and are doing great.  Donald Butler’s father remains hospitalized.

Spoke to Joe David Bailey Sunday night and sent him an e-mail yesterday.  The folks from Danville Baptist continue to look for ministry opportunities as a result of the tornadoes.  Again, thank you for giving to the special offering to help folks affected by the storms.  By the way, Joe David is having some “minor” (his word) surgery today so pray for him.

Tony Hacker told me yesterday that he spoke to Rex Looney via the phone about any needs for help in their area because of the tornadoes.  It is “possible” that Tony could lead a team up to the Madison area to help in some way.  If you have an interest in taking part in this effort, contact Tony.  You can call the church office to get Tony’s phone number in order to get more information.

We need the folks who served on the committee to renovate the CAB to meet tomorrow night at 6:40PM.  One item needs to be discussed so we can finish this renovation project.

Our VBS is upon us and our director, Myrtle Bowden, tells me that we are woefully short on workers.  Call the office to let us know you will help.  The dates are June 6 – 10 from 9:00AM – noon daily.  Thanks!

Our next “Potluck with the Pastor” takes place on May 25th.  We need a “grill master” for that day.  Qualified applicants please send your resumes to me immediately.

If you live in south Mobile County and drive, be careful!  Word has it that Hien, who now has her license, has a vehicle!  Oh my!  I have been told it is a Toyota and I think it is a Matrix.  Once I get a color of the car I will pass along the information so you can take cover in the event you see it coming toward you!

The young adults who attend our 8:00PM Bible study on Wednesdays need to know that the books are in and we will begin a new study this Wednesday night.  Join us and bring a friend.

The Lakers are done and I am no longer watching the NBA playoffs!  I expect David Stern to call me soon begging me to support the league but I am standing firm!

Speaking of basketball, Bro. Chris has a men’s team in the Grand Bay league.  I do not know who their sponsor is but it should have been Bay Water Wells as they have gotten “drilled” their first two games!  I read this quote last week, “it does not matter whether you win or lose. . . until you lose!”  LOL!  Seriously, TJ Vice nailing 3 pointers on you – wow!

I pray that you will have a great Tuesday with Jesus.
