FROM DEIDRA’S BLOG TODAY, 8/17/16

Thanks Carla!

by shininglightabroad

We all have initial moments where God begins to use a specific event to birth a new desire and passion in our lives.  When I was 12 yrs old, I chose to get involved with the bus ministry at church.  This ministry would require me to spend every Saturday visiting houses in Bayou La Batre and giving them a flyer about church with a piece of hard bubble gum.  Rain, shine, freezing temperature, or scorching heat, every Sunday we would ride the bus to pick them up for church and take the home.    As a general rule, the kids would not have a way to church if it wasn’t for the bus ministry.  Some of the kids did not live in the nicest areas or wear the nicest clothes or have security of a home.  The Saturday bus flyers, piece of bubble gum, and riding the church bus were the only stable things for many of the kids.  Every Saturday Carla Felps would drive me from house to house as we invited the kids to church. Every single Saturday, Carla would spend her time ministering with a spoiled 12 year old girl.  Carla showed me faithfulness in ministry.  Carla showed me how to love.  Carla showed me kindness. God began to give me a passion for children. He began to give me a burden for those kids who may not come from a loving, Christian home.  My passion to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of underprivileged kids has only grown stronger.  How I love to see the cycle of poverty and spiritual darkness broken through investing in the life of a child!  Every time I invest in someone’s whether it is in Grand Bay, Bayou La Batre, or Guatemala, Carla has a huge part because she invested in me.

One night, my parents allowed me to ride with Carla to the Dauphin Island Retreat to attend a worship service with Abel Garcia’s youth group.  (Regardless of what my dad writes on his blog, he has always loved Carla!)  After several months of God revealing how I need a Savior, regardless of my “good works”, that night is when I chose to follow Christ.  No fireworks–No outward change–But an inward peace!  I am grateful!

Today we are going to show our support for Carla by buying a meal at Sam’s Super Burger!  Ten percent of our sales will not be much but we hope it shows Carla that she is our hero.  Even in her courageous fight with cancer, she remains faithful to Him.  She shows me how to trust Him.  She shows me how to love.  She shows me that He is a Good, Good, Father!  I am forever grateful!

WEDNESDAY, 8/17/16

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”  (Psalm 19:14 KJV)

Today’s Bible reading – Jeremiah 35-37

Today is “Carla Kyser Day” at both Sam’s Super Burger locations in Grand Bay.  Remember, ten percent of all receipts will be donated to Carla to help financially in her battle against cancer.  I encourage you to support this cause which will be a tremendous boost emotionally to Carla and her family.

Speaking of Carla, she had to have about three fourths of a liter of fluid drained from one of her lungs yesterday.  She also has some fluid on the other lung but I am not sure what they are going to do about that at this point.  Keep praying.

Bernard continues taking his radiation treatments each weekday morning.  Becky Sellers will soon have another scan.

Was able to have a very nice visit with Pastor Jiggs & Sister Joan Ramsey yesterday.  He was moved from the CCU on Monday night.  They really did not know when he would be discharged from the hospital.  Their trust is in God and they are very grateful for the prayers offered on their behalf.  Keep praying.

Regular schedule this morning and tonight with morning worship at 10:00AM, children’s choir at 5:30PM and all of the other activities at 6:30PM.  Jonny Gaston will be preaching to our senior high students tonight.

Our 7:30PM Bible study meal will be bar-b-que pork sliders with baked beans, chips, dessert and drink.  As usual, it will be good!

Church wide work day on Saturday, 8/27, beginning at 8:00AM.  Biscuit breakfast served beginning at 7:30AM.

Did not watch any of the Olympics last night.  Mowed grass until almost dark thirty.  Wait, I thought you mowed grass this past Saturday?  I did!  Only about six more weeks and then hopefully the grass cutting will slow down.

I pray that you will have a great Wednesday with Jesus.  Go to church and go to Sam’s Super Burger!
