DEACON ELECTION & BUDGET ADOPTION

Tonight, the Friendship family elected Morris Bryant, Tim Burnett, & Dirk Johnson to serve as deacons for three years beginning August 1, 2007.  I would have been content working alongside any of the seven men nominated as they are all great guys.  Pray for these three men along with Claude Landry, Dewayne Lavelle, Kevin Vice, Ben Vickers, and Larry Whitehurst as they serve in this office.

Of course, Rick Bradley, Carl Ray Moulds, and Raymond Wilkinson will continue to serve in this office until July 31, 2007.  These guys have been a pleasure to work with too.

The Friendship family also unanimously adopted a budget for the next fiscal year (8/1/07 – 7/31/08).  The most exciting thing about this budget is that we have twenty-eight line items in our mission division and the total to be given to missions equals thirty (30) percent of all undesignated receipts.  God has honored and blessed the Friendship family’s commitment to missions giving over the past seventeen years and I am honored to pastor such a missions giving, and going, people.

I want to thank the chairman of our finance committee, Morris Bryant, the vice-chairman, Edwin Williams, and committee members Louise Allison, Dewayne Lavelle, Mike Moreland, June Strickler, and Lynne Watson for a job well done in preparing and presenting this budget.

We had a good day in the Lord today and we thank Him for his blessings.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Father’s Day – it doesn’t seemingly carry the weight of Mother’s Day but it is a special day nonetheless.  My thoughts this morning have been especially on those who are going through their first Father’s day without their earthly father.  I am praying for those folks along with all whose fathers have passed from this life.

I look like my dad and sometimes I act like my dad – aarrgh!  Sometimes I don’t act enough like my dad – aarrgh!  I am thankful for a dad who loves the Lord and lives loud regarding his faith.  My world has been shaken a bit this year as we learned that dad has cancer but we are grateful that it is a non-aggressive type and that he has responded well to the chemo treatments.

However, it does remind me of the brevity of life and that none of us have a promise of tomorrow.  Life is way too short to hold grudges, not to speak to someone you love, et cetera.  Take the time today to tell those you love just exactly how much you do love them.  We are one phone call away from having our world turned upside down!

Deidra grilled for me & Charles yesterday for which I am thankful.  I thank God for the privilege of being “dad” to five girls.

I want to look like my Father!  I want to act like He wants me to act and to please Him.  May that be true of everyone who has been born again through the precious blood of Jesus.

Happy Father’s Day!
