TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16

Yesterday, I drove to Waynesboro, MS to attend the funeral service for Miss Minnie Boykin.  Going to Waynesboro provided me with the opportunity to visit with Jennings & Emma Brewer.  Jennings and I had lunch at a local restaurant and then went to the convalescent home to visit Emma.  As I expected, she did not recognize me nor did she recognize Jennings.  It was really sad for me to see her in this condition.  Jennings goes to visit her every day.  Please pray for the this precious couple.

Bro. Benny is pondering what to do with our Upward leagues for our 1st & 2nd and our 3rd & 4th grade girls.  We are a few players short in both of those leagues.  If you know of girls in those grades who want to play this season, please contact Bro. Benny immediately.  You can call the church office to make that contact.

Paul Smith, Jerry Whitmore, J.B. Kelley, & Melissa Brown are all having surgical procedures done this morning (the hospitals must be running a special today?).  Pray for these folks.

I am not a huge baseball fan but I was pleased to see the Colorado Rockies advance to the World Series.  They have made an incredible run and are only the second team in the history of MLB to sweep their first two post season series.  They have now won 21 of their last 22 games – wow!  However, what I read/hear about their clubhouse is more impressive than any of these stats.  This seems to be a good group of young men.

I need to make a disclaimer here – I was also pulling for the Diamondbacks because of A.J. Shappie.  He isn’t on their major league roster but did play for the BayBears this year so he is in the Dback’s organization.  He and his wife attended our Sunday services whenever possible so I am obviously a fan of his!

John King is the one who will be working alongside GRACE Ministries in Guatemala.  He is a neighbor and has graciously agreed to help Samuel Acan in securing the building sites, ordering materials, meeting the teams at the airport, et cetera.  He and his wife are from Canada and moved to Guatemala to work with the seminary.  They are great folks and we look forward to working alongside them.

Speaking of Canada – Mark, I am still working on the departure date which simply means that I haven’t made contact with everyone yet.  I will let you know.

Connie Gillott and I were raised in the same community and attended the same high school.  She and her daughter attended both of our daughter’s weddings this summer.  Yesterday, I received word that her father, Glyn Russell, had passed away.  Lisa and I will drive to Hartselle, AL today in order to attend the visitation.  We will then drive home tonight in order to be here for tomorrow’s services/activities.  Pray for the Russell family.

There was supposed to be a student ministry committee meeting tonight that will now be postponed.  We will announce the new date soon.

I hope you have a blessed Tuesday.
